Project Loon and UFOs

Loon Balloon

It’s not a bird. It’s not a plane. It’s not superman. But it is something that is almost out of this world. Something that is really unique and could help those with poor internet service.

Some residents in Virginia, North Carolina and West Virginia are seeing tiny “white dots” in the sky.

These floating “white dots” are balloons from Loon, which are floating at roughly 60,000 feet about ground.

Local Man Reports Aliens Exited Saucer-Shaped Craft | UFO CHRONICLE – 1965

Local Man Claims He Saw Spacemen - Virgian News (Waynesboro, Virginia) 1-23-1965

[...]

According to the report, three beings debarked from the smaller ship and approached to within 12 yards of him. He said he froze, a doubled-edged axe in his hand.

By Virginian News
1-23-1965
The beings were from 35 to 37 inches tall, in his estimation. They were shaped very much like humans, except that one had very long fingers. In addition, the witness remarked about the beings' eyes.

"They seemed to look through you", he said.

He said they uttered sounds which were unintelligible to him, then turned around and walked back to the craft from which they had emerged. A door opened, according to the report, and the three entered. The door closed and the opening "seemed to mold itself to the ship" – there was no evidence of a door after it had closed.

red oval object, "bigger than a Volkswagen," rise to about 300 feet above the glowing ground.

At first hovering, it made a series of right angle turns before heading south toward Stuart, Va.

But the ground glow remained, so Plasters and Clifton decided to investigate. As they neared the area, they were puzzled by the absence of the farm animals: two horse, a steer, and three calves.

They had passed a small shed when Plasters caught site of movement ahead.

Arriving back at the spot where earlier they had seen the humanoid, Plasters and Clifton found burning debris. The light, the object, and the "man" had disappeared.

The men returned home and telephoned the local sheriff's office.

Several days later, independent civilian investigators searched the area. They discovered randomly blackened and charred bushes, fence posts, ground and twigs. Several tree tree limbs had also been broken.

Low Flying, Chevron-Shaped UFO Spotted Over Centreville, Virginia

Low Flying, Chevron-Shaped UFO Spotted Over Centreville, Virginia 2-28-16

A Virginia witness at Centreville reported watching a low flying, chevron-shaped UFO that moved silently overhead under 700 feet, according to testimony in Case 74930 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was outside in a hot tub with his wife and adult son looking up at the night sky on a clear and moonless night about 9:30 p.m. on February 28, 2016.

“We like to look up at the stars and keep an eye out for passing satellites or the occasional shooting star,” the witness stated.“We live in Northern Virginia, so with all the light pollution, that’s a challenge.”

The witness then noticed something unusual in the sky.

“As I was looking up I spotted a V-shaped formation of round lights coming straight in our direction from the south. I pointed it out immediately to my son and wife who saw it clearly as well.”

The witness described the object.

“It had a row of four to five round, orange/copper colored lights on each side of the V with a light at the point. Judging only from its lights – we could not see any structural definition – it appeared to be about the same size as a McDonnell Douglas DC-9.”

The object was flying rather close to the ground.

“It flew by approximately 500-700 feet up from the ground, about the same height of approaching aircraft to the airport. The object flew due north right overhead of us. We live close to Dulles International Airport so we frequently see and hear (very noisy) approaching and departing aircraft in the area.”

But something stood out with this object.

“There were no aircraft in the immediate area during our sighting of the craft. If flew over steady, fast and silently. Not a sound! The whole event took less than eight seconds, but left us speechless! We could not explain it away as an aircraft, flock of geese, or anything from our experience.” [...]

A YouTuber leaving her job at the Town Center of Virginia Beach spotted a weird object fluttering around the top of the nearby Westin Hotel building. The object sat motionless at times, and occasionally sped off and came back. The witness was left wondering what the heck she had seen. Luckily, she caught it on video.

. . . In the video, an object can be seen hovering over the Westin’s large, brightly lit, pyramid roof and spire. At first it doesn’t look too abnormal, but then the object begins to maneuver in strange ways. It zooms off and comes back a couple of times before zooming off one last time at the end of the video. The video last about 3 and a half minutes. . . .

UFO Hovering Over Neighbor’s Tree - Richmond, Virginia 8-24-14

UFO Photographed Hovering Over Neighbor’s Tree

By Roger Marsh
The Examiner
10-29-14

A Virginia witness at Richmond reported watching and photographing a “small, glowing, rod-shaped UFO hovering silently in a neighbor’s tree,” according to testimony in Case 61042 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was outside walking when the object was first noticed about 11:33 p.m. on August 24, 2014.

“I was prompted to notice a small, glowing, weird rod-shaped object hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground in the flimsy, leafy, outer branches of a large tree behind a house in my tranquil, heavily-wooded suburban neighborhood of Stratford Hills in Richmond, Virginia,” the witness stated.

The area is part of the witnesses’ regular walking route.

“I’m 54 years old and I’ve been walking this route nearly every day for 10 years and what I beheld at 11:33 p.m. on a very quiet Sunday night was abnormal and totally out-of-place! Most of my neighbors probably were in bed.”

Something odd caught the witnesses’ attention.

“I was fortunate to view the mysterious glowing object that seemed to be hiding up in the tree and I partially attribute my good fortune to the fact that it was a new moon – the darkest night of the month!”

The witness described the object

“The silent UFO first was rod-shaped with a glowing blue light on the left end and a pinkish-violet light on the right end. It was hovering horizontally in a place where a human could not be. It was not a new-fangled bug zapper and there are no cable-TV or electric lines running near the tree and definitely not at that height. No logic for the uncanny faintly-glowing lights in the tree.”

The witness used an iPhone 4S with no zoom to shoot video of the object and then switched to shooting still images in order to zoom in. Thirty images were shot over a 10-minute period. . . .

Antares Rocket Explodes Seconds After Launch
The Orbital Sciences Corporation Antares rocket, with the Cygnus spacecraft onboard suffers a catastrophic anomaly moments after launch from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport Pad 0A, Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, at NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia.

The private American rocket that exploded shortly after liftoff Tuesday evening (Oct. 28) was powered partly by an engine built to get cosmonauts to the moon in the 1960s.

Orbital Sciences Corp.'s two-stage Antares rocket crashed in a fiery heap just seconds after launching from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia on Tuesday, ending an attempted cargo run to the International Space Station just seconds after it began.

Antares' first stage uses two AJ26 engines, which are refurbished variants of the NK-33 built by the Soviet Union for its ill-fated N-1 moon rocket during the height of the space race. While it's unclear at the moment whether or not the AJ26 played any role in Tuesday's mishap, the engines' age and provenance has already stirred debate, as well as a bit of criticism. . . .

Hot Air Balloon Burns, Crashes; 2 Bodies Found, 1 Missing

(CNN) -- Authorities in Virginia found two bodies after a hot air balloon crash and continued efforts Saturday to locate a third person aboard.

Witnesses captured photographs of the balloon after it drifted into power lines, burst into flames Friday night and crashed into the countryside about 25 miles north of Richmond.

Some reported seeing two people jump -- or fall -- from the gondola at a dizzying height.

The basket and the balloon separated at some point; neither had been found as of midday Saturday. Two bodies were recovered, but police declined to identify them right away.

"We are now transitioning from a rescue operation to a recovery operation at this time," Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller told reporters earlier. . . .

The science spacecraft launched from Virginia’s coast last year has been orbiting the moon for months and is about to conclude its mission with a crash into the lunar surface, authorities said.

The unmanned spacecraft was the first to be sent from Virginia to the moon, NASA said.

With its primary scientific mission completed and its fuel almost exhausted, the intricate package of instruments is being lowered gradually into an orbit as little as a mile or two above the pocked and cratered surface of the moon, NASA said last week.

The orbit is designed to let the craft continue gathering data as close as possible to the surface, as a kind of scientific bonus.

It is also a prelude to the planned crash of the spacecraft — described as about the size of a vending machine or small car — into the far side of the moon.

NASA said it expects the craft to crash, crumple and break apart “on or before” April 21. . . .

CBS 6 was contacted via email and Twitter about a photo snapped Thursday at Southpark Mall, that allegedly captured a UFO in the clouds.

Erica Skiddle said was with her mother and sister tonight at the Southpark Mall. They were leaving a department store and exited around 6:30 p.m. to a “weird and ominous” sky.

“My mom and I took several pictures of the sky and while we began looking through our pictures, I noticed in one of mine that there was something,” Skiddle wrote via email. ”I had no flash in, nor a filter.”

“And my mom looked through hers and also saw she had whatever it was in one of hers,” she added.

Erica described what she and her mom saw in the pictures as looking “…like there are six little lights, in like a hexagon, I don’t know, it just looks weird.” . . .

At 8:30 pm my wife and I were traveling down Morgan st when I turned my head to the left and 3 large sets of strange reddish orange lights in the western part of the sky towards Beardstown. They were spread out in a triangle formation. the light would appear and would last about 3 seconds before they would disappear. As that light would go out at the same time next to it another light would begin to appear. this went on for a short while then as if there was nothing there they disappeared.

I did manage to get some video but it didn't turn out very well.

UFOs Sighted Over Virginia
ASHBURN, VA. (WJLA) - It makes sense to see the sky light up on New Year's Eve, except an Ashburn man says he didn't see fireworks, but possibly a UFO.

Chris Smith doesn’t live far from Dulles and is used to seeing airplanes fly above.

“You couldn’t help but see it in the sky, it was that bright,” he says.

Smith grabbed his cell phone and started recording. He captured two lights two lights sitting in the sky and barely moving. Intrigued, he called for his children.

“I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” says his son, Markus, 10.

Markus thought it could be a new type of rocket or flares.

“It was cool and kind of scary,” says Smith's daughter, Summer.

“They really moved like nothing else in the sky.”

Smith was in complete disbelief.

UFO Sighting Precipitates Personal Investigation by Author - Journalist

Frank Warren By Frank Warren

Author, journalist and mother, Lisa Suhay's trip to the grocery store last Sunday afternoon (9-8-13) was anything but mundane. While driving home with her son Quin, he noticed what she would later describe as a “bright flare” in the sky.

The curiosity and inquisitiveness of a nine-year-old boy is in part focused on celestial objects and astronomy and nurtured by his mother. In fact a sky-watch was scheduled for later that evening to view the crescent moon and the planet Venus; little did they know, the preamble would steal the show.

With the initial sighting of the “flare” Mrs. Suhay quickly pulled into a parking lot; she and Quin jumped out and she began recording with her cell phone. In the article she penned for The Christian Monitor she wrote:
“What we saw with the naked eye were irregular black shapes appearing in the sky with orange coronas that flared around the leading edge and bright trails of white light behind them. It looked like a match head burning through a picture of the sky from the back.

In photos they just look like a jet contrail super highway.

Some seemed to be falling up, others changed course. Two nearly collided. Several seemed to just come down through the atmosphere as hunks of blackness with an orangey corona at the head and then became all white light. Each lasted only moments. The entire event lasted less than about eight minutes.”
The impact of the event precipitated a personal investigation into the matter and to find out just what she and her young son witnessed. She called Dr. Edward M. Murphy of the University of Virginia’s Astronomy Department and Observatory and queried him. After inspecting her video and stills from her cell phone camera he stated:
“From the way these are moving and the fact that two actually seem to go right at each other from opposite directions, and their speed, it isn’t likely to be a naturally occurring event but more likely some sort of very fast, high atmosphere craft. Probably military but I can’t really say.”
Another call was put into the Air Ops at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach and as of yesterday it hadn’t been returned.

The mystery continues . . ..

Lisa Suhay and her 9-year-old son caught a rare glimpse of fiery trails in the night sky last night that unleashed the family's imaginations and sparked a sleuthing adventure.

The sky has been in the news a lot lately, from the fireball that outshone the Moon to NASA’s LADEE moon launch, so when your child tells you, “The sky’s falling” if might be worth more than a story about a little chicken.

Last night Quin, 9, and I were driving home from the grocery store just before dusk, sevenish, when he pointed out a bright flare in the sky, like a tiny sun that appeared and then began to shoot away leaving a very bright trail. . . .
I captured the event in both photos and video with my cell phone.

The results are not great, but in the end would get us closer to finding out what we were seeing.

What we saw with the naked eye were irregular black shapes appearing in the sky with orange coronas that flared around the leading edge and bright trails of white light behind them. It looked like a match head burning through a picture of the sky from the back. . . .
