The Science of UFOs

guard over fifty-one years ago. Anyone who has ever flown a high-speed aircraft or has familiarity aircraft of any type would find this report incredible. However, very similar observations have now been reported many times by credible witnesses. We need to move on from being awed by the “lights in the sky” reflex. It may be time to try and attempt a scientific explanation of the observable flight characteristics of UFOs.

Recently I spent some time with Jean-Pierre Petit at his home in France. For decades he has been a preeminent researcher in Magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) - an advanced concept for hypersonic flight. He has also researched and published many papers and video on a new Cosmology called Janus. Of late, he published a book titled, “Science from Beyond,” coauthored by Jean-Claude Bourret, where he proposes explanations of observed UFO flight characteristics.

We discussed his theories at length and I came away convinced they should, at least, be considered. I will attempt to briefly summarize these theories but be advised they involve some radical and controversial concepts and more detailed explanations can be found in Petit’s papers and videos.

Hypersonic flight without sound waves, shock waves or turbulent wake by use of Magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) flow:

In 1976 it was shown that, through a full MHD control of the airflow is possible. The creation of shock waves comes from the Mach line compression. In hypersonic regimes the rise of the temperature at the stagnation point is extreme. A Lorentz force (the force that is exerted by a magnetic field on a moving electric charge.) may ensure a complete control of the Mach lines pattern, resulting in avoidance of Mach line compression, so that shock waves do not appear. This could explain the common observation that UFOs don’t produce shock waves and appear to have some sort of ionized gas surround the structure of the craft.

The possibility of interstellar travel in a relatively short time:

If we confine our cosmological model to the Einstein’s schema, based on a single field equation, the limit of the speed of light brings a severe limit to the velocity we can attain during interstellar flight. The present mainstream model includes the action of cold Dark Matter and a cosmological constant, which the mainstream model adds to Einstein’s equations and which is supposed to represent an unknown repellent property in the cosmos. This model is far from satisfactory, carrying two unknown components, dark matter and dark energy, whose nature remains perfectly unknown.

In 1967, Nobel Prize winner A. Sakharov proposed a model of two “twin universes” with opposite arrows of time. The dynamic group theory shows that this time-inversion is equivalent to the inversion of the energy of particles and of their mass.

This suggests a new cosmic model, based on two coupled field equations (the Einstein’s equation being one of the two) that overcomes the problem of dark matter/energy and provides the following interaction schema:

- Masses with same sign mutually attract
- Masses with opposite signs mutually repel

In general this model fits very well the available observational data. For example, it takes into account the acceleration of the expansion of the universe, as based of the data from 740 distant supernovae. The negative mass (with mc2 < 0) emits negative energy photons, which cannot be captured by our telescopes, so that it is invisible to us.

Due to initial instability, the two coupled systems experience different evolutions, which goes with different sets of physical constants. [the speed of light becomes variable, not constant]. When the gravitational instability occurs the dominant negative mass gives the first structures because its time is shorter. It forms a set of spheroidal clusters, which repel positive mass in the remnant space, giving its lacunar structure with big voids. When galaxies form, negative mass invades space between them. Its repellent effect confines them. As recently shown, when a galaxy is surrounded by repellent negative mass, it flattens its rotation curve. The negative lensing effect explains the observed values, challenging the classical explanation of a dark matter halo. Dynamical friction of the galaxy with its surrounding negative matter environment explains their spiral structure. When light emitted by distant galaxies encounters a negative mass cluster the subsequent negative lensing reduces their apparent magnitude and make them appear as dwarves, which corresponds to observation.

Thanks to Sakharov’s Dynamic group theory, it makes it possible to describe precisely this invisible content of the universe. It would be made of negative mass antiprotons, negative mass antineutrons, negative mass anti electrons, negative energy photons, and so on. It gives an alternative interpretation to the fluctuations of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), which reveals the ratio of the two space scale factors in the two entities. This shortens the distances if a craft can invert its mass, so that brings a new insight on the problem of interstellar travel. This goes with a higher speed of light in that second frame of reference c^(-)_{_/}^/_c⁽⁺⁾ ≃ 10. If a craft can move at relativistic velocity the net gain for travel time is 1/1000. Interstellar travel then becomes possible.

How does the possibility of negative mass relate to avoiding high acceleration forces in our airspace?

The energy required for mass inversion could be much smaller than that derived from E = mc², where m is the mass of the craft. Concentrating energy in the surrounding space, possibly through neutronic metastable states, could produce the required conversion.

Then no ‘propulsion system’ is necessary. Quantum effects and energy conservation requirement make it that when UFOs reverse their mass they gain relativistic velocity. The concept of acceleration does not make sense any longer. To be back in the original positive mass frame a new mass inversion stops them immediately. In this way, combining both aerial displacement and mass inversions process UFOs can achieve sharp (90 degree) turns that are impossible in the frame of a classical physics.

In many ways, the different flight characteristics of observations of these unknown craft challenge us. They can move in the air at hypersonic velocity without noise or producing shock waves. They can cruise over interstellar distances. They can disappear in front of our eyes. They execute turns that oppose the laws of classical mechanics.

We are faced to two choices. Either we simply deny their existence and ignore the multitude of observations, or we admit they are real flying objects. Then, considering current improvements in aviation, it forces us to consider the most advanced fluid dynamic technique, MHD. Other aspects, which challenge classical General Relativity suggest a dramatically different paradigm, shifting from Einstein’s model to an extended model, such as the one described above.

For the farce that was presented in Mexico City on May 5, we now have the apology of Donald R. Schmitt. We have the apology of Anthony Bragalia, although his was not to the general public but to Native Americans of the Southwest. And we have the indirect admission from Richard Dolan that he may have made a mistake. We still do not have a definitive comment from Tom Carey, Jaime Maussan, or Adam Dew who are still formulating a response. Today, Dolan declared, “. . . the matter of the slides is CLOSED.” I guess he and the rest of the group responsible for this want us all to now join hands and move on.

I think it is worth another look because there very well could be another motive for what transpired.

When the photos were first presented to some of the principles, they concluded that the Rays, the original owners of the photos were friends of Dwight D. Eisenhower. However, there has been no evidence presented to support that. Months before May 5, Tom Carey and others were making the very tenuous connections between the age of the photos, the relationship with Eisenhower and the Roswell incident of 1947. Somehow, all of the players in this comedy bought-in to that conjecture, even though, to my knowledge there is no evidence there are any such connections.

Anyone who seriously studied the photos for any length of time would have noticed the placard in the glass case and that something was written there. Months before the event researchers such as David Rudiak, Kevin Randle and Robert Hastings were making the point that even though the age of the photos could be accurately determined, there was nothing to connect them with the Roswell incident or prove they were of extraterrestrial entities. I also made this point and my suspicions about the integrity of Jaime Maussan prior to the event.

Weeks before the May 5 event, at least one respected researcher, Frank Warren requested to see a high resolution photo and offered to try and determine what was written on the placard. Numerous times, this request was denied. When a high-resolution photo was finally released, after the event, he was quickly able to read the placard using “off the shelf” de-blur software.

Multiple sources have now confirmed it stated this was the mummified remains of a child.

One has to seriously question whether or not due diligence was followed in the process of validating the photos prior to the event by the event organizers and other participants. And, if due diligence was not done, we are led to what other factors may have motivated the fact they all went forward with the event with the knowledge that nothing of value would be presented.

Some of the participants claim that no money was made from this. However, if that is the case why were high prices charged for attendance and why was it streamed world-wide for $20 a pop. Certainly the organizers were entitled to recoup their expenses, but are they entitled if they promoted a sham? A recent news article from Mexico states that there were over 7,000 people in attendance at the event and another 2,500,000 paid the $20 to view the live stream! That is well over $50 million! If these figures are accurate, this is not an insignificant amount of money.

Notwithstanding what is being claimed about intent and purpose, the prospect of that amount of money would be a significant motive for the promotion and eventually going ahead with this shameful event. Before heeding the call to put this behind us, I think the public deserves a financial accounting.

UNIDENTIFIED: The UFO Phenomenon | A Book Review

Don’t let the modest size of Robert Salas’s new book, Unidentified: The UFO Phenomenon,or its simple, almost generic title fool you. It happens to be one of the best UFO books I’ve read in years. Its two hundred and twenty-two pages take us on a personal journey through Post War History that is not taught in our schools, and in a manner that’s entirely his own. Then again, to the best of my knowledge we’ve never had a UFO author quite like this one, and the uniqueness of his book springs directly from a background rich in relevant experience, and one with a deep appreciation for the lessons of history.

Robert Salas is a mathematician and a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. Second lieutenant Salas volunteered for assignment as a Missile Launch Officer at Malmstrom Air Force Base near Great Falls, Montana. While stationed there he became a firsthand witness to UFO-interference with nuclear missiles, and in no uncertain terms. This series of events (February 1967) now constitute one of the very the best, and best-documented nuke-UFO incidents in history. Salas left the Air Force with the rank of captain. As an engineer he worked briefly for Martin-Marieta Aerospace and Rockwell International.

He is a twenty-two year veteran of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), holds a Masters Degree in Aerospace Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology, and a second Masters Degree, this in education, from the University of Washington. His highly regarded first book, Faded Giant(coauthored with James Klotz), is the go-to book for a first-person perspective on the 1967 Malmstrom AFB nuclear-UFO incident and features an appendix of more than ninety pages of declassified documents, letters, cablegrams, memos, diagrams, drawings and photos.

The author’s purpose in writing Unidentified is put forward plain and clear in the introduction: “My objectives for this book are to review the secrecy, the distortion of the truth by governments, about the extraterrestrial life that is visiting our planet and us. It is mostly about us, our perceptions and our fears and how we are learning to accommodate this knowledge. It is also about being true to our ideals as we struggle to define what it means to be human.” And for this reviewer at least, the author succeeds in his goal. In three short pages in the introduction we are whisked through perhaps the best practical, extreme-capsule-history of UFO officialdom, projects and players that led up to the 1952 Washington, D.C. UFO flap. This, the author establishes, resulted in the decision that followed to establish a wide-ranging disinformation program in regard to the reality of UFOs. With this, we begin an account that has been many years in the making. And you embark on it without the aid of a road map; there is no table of contents to tell you where you are going. In most books this would seem to be an embarrassing lapse. Here it seems more a reminder that we do not know where this subject will be taking us in the future.

Chapter one, “A Nation of Secrets,” opens in 1960 with Air Force Academy freshman cadet Salas learning during a classified briefing that American ‘military advisors’ were now on the ground in Vietnam, but only as advisors who would not be involved in the fighting. Salient background on the conflict and the politics surrounding it are briefly reviewed here as we learn that the author volunteered for duty in Vietnam in 1965. He was also offered an assignment as a launch officer at a Minuteman Missile. He ended up accepted the later, a decision his life literally turned on, no matter which decision he’d reached. We then transition into the nature of governmental secrecy, a thread that weaves itself tightly around much of the book’s content. Post War History serves as a bridge here while some necessary discussion is given over to the 1947 Roswell incident and to one of my all-time favorite books on the subject, Witness to Roswellby Tom Carey and Don Schmitt. Some of the more extreme measures in keeping people quiet in the early days of the UFO cover-up are touched upon here, along with some of the nuclear anxiety that had settled over the American people. The author closes “A Nation of Secrets” relating something that happened to him in the Air Force that has a direct bearing on the secret-keeping process.

“Faded Giant – Revisited” again locates the author within the history of events his relates, here as a newly-qualified missile crew commander. He draws a memorable parallel from this to the October 1966 announcement that the Air Force had chosen Dr. Edward U. Condon and the University of Colorado for their UFO research project. The initiation of the U. of Colorado’s UFO study signaled the start of the USAF’s public dismantling of Project Blue Book and cessation of its official involvement in UFO studies. Faded Giant is referenced here, as was Salas’s indirect (and unaware) connection to the Condon Committee in the form of a fellow missile officer and what he’d learned during “a special UFO briefing” he’d attended. We’re also reminded that this was all going on as the University of Colorado’s Condon Committee assisted the United States Air Force in developing its strategic cover-up of UFOs.

Chapter three’s subject is “Extreme Secrecy” and discusses the kinds of secrecy government face and how classified information is prioritized and handled by a myriad of official agencies and offices. Activities that come under the significant heading of “secret science” are then introduced, as is the doctrine of “state secrets privilege” and its divisive impact on our chances of getting to the bottom of things: “The state secrets privilege is a judicially created evidentiary privilege that allows the federal government to resist court-ordered disclosure during litigation if there is a reasonable danger that such disclosure would harm the national security of the United States.” Being a mathematician, Salas presents us with the idea of ‘UFO Disclosure as a Zero-Sum Game (so well thought out), and on the continuing frustrations facing the Disclosure Movement, including this observation, “The public is not clamoring for action because they simply don’t know what or who to believe, and so they take the path of least resistance: indifference. As long as the UFO phenomenon is defined by confusion and conjecture, there will be nothing specific to demand of our government.”

A certain level of groundwork now laid, the author escalates the discourse in chapter four, “The UFO Cabal,” and in case you had any questions about the title being allegorical or actual, the first sentence is, “Yes, I am referring to a group involved in an international conspiracy of secrecy in control of the known facts about the UFO phenomenon.” But unlike many conspiracy-oriented arguments I’ve heard or read over the years, this assessment seems reasoned, logical, likely accurate, and fairly chilling. What follows in another relevant tangent is tracing the logical beginnings of such a group back to the summer of 1947. The references cited here by the author are respected and established ones as he continues to build his case. In a few brief and noteworthy pages, key particulars of another era are encapsulated in UFO/Post War history. We draw down in the later mid-Sixties, about the time of the nuclear/UFO incident the author was involved in. The chapter closes with a series of thoughtful observations which appropriately serve to remind readers of the author’s military background and his ability to think strategically. How would such a Cabal have been organized? What would its major command and control elements be? We also review related matters such as facilities and equipment, retrieval and collection, analyses, evaluation, security operations, interpretation, industry liaison, liaison to the other intelligences.

In “The UFO Phenomena” some of the knowledge gained during the author’s almost-twenty-year-long study of this most evasive, mercurial topic is put forward in a series of arguments and thoughts. Salas, along with so many of the rest of us, is convinced that a number of governments have physical evidence of extraterrestrial visitations and that over the decades numerous scientists have examined such artifacts and related evidence of extraterrestrial visitations. That a ‘new’ science exists just below the surface of acceptable, official science, and that some of the advanced technology gained from the examination and study of ET artifacts has already been incorporated into our own technology. The chapter ends with some reflections on the craft themselves, extra-terrestrial entities, the abduction phenomenon, the nature of proof and the UFO phenomena, and some outstanding examples of people who worked to establish UFO studies as a legitimate area of scientific inquiry.

Chapter six is set aside for “The Stories of Others” and touches on one military-UFO encounter after another, including the Malmstrom AFB case and the 1980 Bentwaters AFB incident, a case that the author is very familiar with as am I. Immediately following in chapter seven the author accomplishes something remarkable, He gives the reader perhaps the best-informed and concisely worded twenty-five page overview of our nuclear history, beginning with an appreciation for the military culture’s strange affection for this horrific weaponry. I don’t think Salas misses an area of relevant interest in this chapter-within-a-chapter, commencing with the start of the nuclear age, then on to the concept of nuclear deterrence, nuclear crisis averted, toward zero nukes, accidental emissions, the ying and yang of nuclear deterrence, how would we account for our stewardship of planet earth, how did we get to that level, UFOs and nuclear weapons, and the connection between UFOs and nukes.

The final section is entitled “The World Set Free,” and opens with a quote from the visionary writer, novelist, historian and social thinker, H. G. Wells. It regards nuclear war and is from his book, The World Set Free, written in 1914. Salas states, ‘“Wells was able to capture the very real questions we face today. If we cannot solve this problem, we will be faced with the devastating answer that in order to move forward together, humankind must suffer the horrors of nuclear war? Or, as Oppenheimer said, “It is not for us to believe that we cannot achieve the objective (the abolishment of nuclear weapons).” Based on his years of study the author is convinced that the extraterrestrial visitors are “trying to shine a light on our nuclear weapons,” and based on my years of study, I couldn’t agree more. “Their intense and continuing interest in what we humans do with respect to nukes suggests the depth to which they understand our problem.” Through their own past experiences perhaps, but when all is said and done, Robert Salas sees “..the extraterrestrial presence as a positive impetus that, if recognized as a positive influence by the public, can help us not only to survive but allow us to demonstrate to them that we have the will, the intellect and the character qualities to continue on a peaceful evolutionary path.” Controversial words to some I expect, but worthy of the reader’s respect and consideration. I’m weighing them carefully myself.

“ET and Me” is a solid, chapter-long compendium devoted to the abduction phenomenon in its varying aspects and the author covers the territory well. But when I reached the final pages of the chapter I was quietly shocked to learn that this eminently rational, ‘real world,’ nuts-and-bolts individual I had been getting to know, to some degree at least, in the pages of his book, knew more about the UFO abduction phenomena than he had learned reading about it. It happened to Robert, when he was living in Manhattan Beach, California in 1985. His description of his experience is something I think you should read for yourself, and in his book, but I can tell you that his words, in varying shades of modification, are all but identical to hundreds and hundreds of accounts I’ve read or heard firsthand from individuals all around the world. The question that lingers for Salas is, “for what purpose were I, and so many others, taken?”

“The Last Country” is also the last chapter and moves to coalesce the wide-field thinking expressed throughout Unidentified, and his closing thoughts will be remaining with me for some time to come. I think they will be for you as well once you have read this unique and important book.

Congressman Ridicules 'UFO Related' National Security Concerns of Six Former Air Force Officers

When I spoke at the Citizen’s Hearing on Disclosure on April 30, 2013, I intentionally revealed the fact that I, and others, had been in contact with the office of Congressman Peter King regarding my UFO incident that occurred while serving in the U.S. Air Force as a nuclear missile launch officer. On May 2, the New York Daily News published an article by Daniel Friedman, quoting King’s response; “I have no idea what the guy is talking about. We are always getting crazy stuff in the mail by people whose brain has been taken over by aliens or something.”

In fact, King should have had ‘an idea’ of what I was talking about because we have been sending him documents and inquiries on this matter for over two years! We have the records to prove these documents were sent, received and seen by King, according to responses we received from his staff.

It appears that Congressman King simply used this opportunity to ridicule the whole idea of UFOs. In those two sentences, King summarized the method by which our government has maintained secrecy on this phenomenon. First, the idea that extraterrestrial craft have been visiting earth is the belief of crazy people and second, that this is a subject worthy only of ridicule. These are the usual ways uncomfortable truths are avoided.

For the record, the documents that were sent to King’s office while he was Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security were the signed and notarized affidavits of six ex-USAF military officers and an ex-Navy non-commissioned officer. The incidents described in the affidavits were directly related to interference with the operational readiness of our nuclear weapons. They were, by any standard, related to our national security interests and they have continued to re-occur. Another important aspect of these incidents is government excess in secrecy that has prolonged hiding the truth of this phenomenon. Obviously, these incidents have enormous implications worldwide and specifically to the government of the U.S. and public access to vital information.

I concede that this subject is phenomenal. The performance characteristics of these objects, as described by many witnesses defies (current) scientific explanation. However, there is a massive amount of evidence, over decades, in the form of documents and testimony from very credible sources that this phenomenon deserves serious recognition.

The evidence provided to King is direct testimony from multiple ex-USAF witnesses who experienced encounters with these unidentified objects, resulting in interference with our nuclear weapons capability. The fact this information was rudely dismissed so glibly by King is symptomatic of the current lack of responsiveness from our elected officials.

Currently, the U.S. Congress has rightly earned a very low public approval rating. We live in a world where there is little confidence that our governmental institutions will protect or respond to the interests of its people. We all need a change in direction. In order to work toward the ideals of government for and by the people, we must continue to press our elected officials to listen and act on this matter of vital importance to us all.

In my letter of July 22, 2012 to Congressman King, I reminded him of his oath to the U.S. Constitution. Our Constitution establishes a republic with representative government. King is one of those representatives responsible for listening to the grievances of the people. By his failure to consider the evidence on a matter of our national security, he is guilty of dereliction of duty and does not deserve to hold office.

Former Nuke Missile Commander, Colonel Frederick Meiwald (Ret) Passes Away at 70 | UFO NEWS

Editor's Note–Colonel Frederick Meiwald (Ret) succumbed to cancer on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012. Amongst his many accolades was a 28-year career in the Air Force, in part as a Missile Combat Crew Commander (MCCC), serving with Bob Salas. We salute his service to our country as well as his courage in corroborating the incident where 10 nuclear missiles under his charge (Oscar Flight, Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana) became inoperative during reported UFO activity over the launch control center (LCC) in March of 1967. In Memory of Col. Frederick Meiwald

Col. Fred Meiwald passed away in early August, 2012 after a battle with cancer. I knew Fred only during brief periods of his life but he is someone I won’t soon forget. This remembrance is to honor a good friend and a man of character.

I first met Fred in 1966. We became linked up as a Minuteman I missile crew in October of that year, passing our evaluation with high scores. In fact, Fred and I were one of the top rated crews in the 341st Strategic Missile Wing, Malmstrom AFB, Montana.

From our first meeting, it was clear to me that he was a highly intelligent and dedicated officer. He had already served on missile crew duty with the Atlas I missile; working closely with him for nearly a year, I can attest to the fact that he was a consummate professional when it came to our duties as a missile crew.

Fred was with me at Oscar flight during our 1967 encounter with a UFO that disabled all ten of our missiles. I have documented that event in Faded Giant. Later that year, I became a crew commander and Fred was bumped ‘upstairs’ to the Wing Command Post and we sort of lost track of each other.

Fred went on to what was clearly a distinguished Air Force career. After earning a Master of Science degree in Information Science, he was assigned greater responsibilities within the Strategic Air Command (SAC) and Space Command. He later headed the Satellite System Programming Agency, with 1100 assigned personnel. This agency was responsible for real-time satellite system integration in Space Command and was used in war planning and target selection. Fred was recognized for his achievements by being awarded the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Services Commendation Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal, among others. He retired from the Air Force with the rank of Colonel in 1991 after 28 years of service.

In 1994, after going public with my story, I was eager to locate my commander in the capsule on the evening of the incident. Because of the long period of time that had elapsed, at first, I could not remember his name. It was not until 1996, and after speaking with many people, that I finally located and re-united with Fred. I was very relieved to have found him alive and well. Moreover, I was equally pleased to know that he had recalled the basic incident!

With his permission, I was able to record the phone conversation we had in 1996:

During this conversation [as can be heard above], Fred was very congenial and was happy to speak of the incident freely with me. However, neither of us at the time could predict how very vocal and active in telling our story to the television and print media I would become. In later years, after I had appeared on many TV programs and conferences, and it became obvious that I was quite vocal about this event, that Fred made it known to me that he was not anxious to be as vociferous as I was. I certainly understood his position in view of the fact that public witnesses have historically been ridiculed by the media. He, as we all do, wanted to protect his reputation among his peers, friends and neighbors. In my opinion, he was a modest, unassuming man who simply wanted to live a peaceful life in retirement and not be under the spectacle of being a witness to a UFO event. I tried my best to honor his request for privacy while, at the same time, I felt that his testimony was so important in validating my own testimony that I could not simply keep his name out of it completely.

To his credit, Fred never told me that he would refuse to speak to others about the incident. In fact we continued to stay in touch and he cooperated by speaking to others, such as Jim Klotz and Robert Hastings, to confirm some of the facts of our 1967 incident.

Fred never claimed to recall the entirety of the incident. Fred and I both struggled with trying to recall precise facts about what we experienced because of the passage of time and events during that time and because we were ordered to never speak of the incident. As officers who had access to classified information, we both understood the importance of not divulging classified material. From the time we were ordered not to divulge the incident we both made an effort to forget it.

In the last correspondence I received from Fred about a year ago, he said he was “thoroughly disgusted” with trying to explain why he could not recall specific details. He specifically mentioned his disgust with James Carlson and his attempts to discredit the facts as we recalled them. I too am disgusted that James Carlson hounded Fred for over a year in his unsuccessful attempt to discredit him. In that last letter from Fred, he stated again his support for what I had documented.

What will always stand out in my mind about Fred Meiwald was his integrity. I saw that integrity when we worked together as a crew in 1966-67 and again from 1996 until his passing. He was a stand-up guy in every sense. That’s how I knew him and that is how I will always remember him.

The Science of Ufology

We are, by nature, curious about our physical world. And, we try and satisfy that curiosity by what we consider scientific means. Doing science in ufology and getting it disseminated to the public is necessary and important if we hope to get the media attention this subject deserves. Our observations of the objects and their occupants, is phenomenal to all of us. Somehow we must try to explain what we are experiencing, in our own words, and in a way that is ‘acceptable’ to the populous as a whole. Saying, “out-of-this world” just doesn’t cut it anymore. We need to employ the scientific approach.

One could argue that since the time of the first observations of unexplained aerial phenomenon, we have been trying to understand the science behind what we saw. Unfortunately, the science we know simply does not seem to have answers for what we have observed in the UFO phenomena. Ball lightning, swamp gas or the planet Venus does not explain our collective experiences. Certainly, by July, 1947, when the first non-human bodies, recovered from the Corona, New Mexico crash site, were first seen by doctors at Roswell Army Air Force Base they knew there was some organic biology that they did not understand. And, when engineers inspected the wreckage of that craft at Wright Patterson AFB and found no visible means of propulsion or control, they also knew they had something more to learn about physics.

A Close Encounter Near Camp Slayer, Iraq – 2006

It has been a very common occurrence that, while presenting at UFO conferences, I am approached by someone who wants to talk about their own sighting. I am always interested in hearing such stories. Most of them are simply remembrances of strange lights in the sky without much in the way of details or supporting witnesses. However, on occasion I meet a witness to an incident that cries out for my complete attention.

The following is such an incident. The witness will be referred to as Sgt. ‘X’ until such time when he is willing to publicly release his name. He assures me that time will come. I am convinced that he is telling the truth of the matter:

In June 2006 (exact date TBD) SFC ‘X’ was with a platoon of twenty-five men at the Radwahnian Palace complex just to the southwest of Camp Slayer.

At approximately 10 pm, they were on a routine patrol thru the town of Makasib and traveling North toward Baghdad International Airport. It is important to note that he and his platoon routinely took this route through the town of Makasib and had done so the previous day.

On this night, his gunner radioed to stop the patrol. “We performed a security halt and dismounted the vehicles. This was normal procedure when someone spotted a situation that could be a danger to the platoon.

The gunner said, ‘It’s not on the ground, it’s up here. Look up!’

I looked up and what I thought I saw was something manufactured. It looked like landing lights propped on 1000 ft. tall poles. We looked at it for 3-5 minutes. 25 people looked up! Then we put on our NVG -7’s (night-vision goggles).

It looked solid. You could not see the stars between the lights. It was triangular in shape with each side of the triangle equal in length. It had lights on only the leading edge, in the shape of a ‘V’. The lights were colored white-orange. There were about four to five lights on each side. The brightness of the lights looked muted; sort of milky white. One of the other men said, with the goggles on you could see the reflection of the city lights underneath. I saw a smooth surface. There were no rivets, no seams, no exhaust ports and no sound. It was totally silent. I did not think it was moving but some of the other men said it was moving slowly. The length of each side was about 4 football fields (1200 ft.). It was enormous. It basically covered the entire town of Makasib!”

“My first thought was, how did they get those poles up so fast? We had been through here the previous night. But then I looked closer and realized there were no poles. After about 5-7 minutes, I decided, we have to move to meet our next scheduled checkpoint. We went really fast thru Makasib to get to the other side. It took us about 5 minutes. We were all anxious to get another look at this object from a distance. When we got to the fruit tree groves, we looked back and it was gone. I told the Lieutenant I thought it would be a mistake to report what we had seen. I told him that, if we did report it, we would be laughed at and probably lose our rank and chance of promotion. He agreed.”

“When we got to headquarters, I simply asked if anything was going on. They said no. However, they did not have direct communication with the Air Traffic Control tower. So, it is possible that people in the tower did see or have a record of the appearance of the object.

Later, I met separately with the men in my platoon and told them that, yes we saw something bizarre, but I would not spread the story too much unless you want to get laughed at. Most of them agreed to keep it to themselves. However, since my separation from the service, I have talked to all the staff sergeants and 4 or 5 E-5s and 6 or 7 privates and specialists at Company reunions. They have not forgotten what they saw and there remains a lot of interest in talking about it.”

This is the first time Sgt. ‘X’ has discussed his story openly. I am honored to be the individual to whom he confided these details. He is attempting to contact some of the other witnesses to this incident, although many of them are still on active duty. He anticipates that some of them will want to come forward also with more details. I too anticipate that more witnesses and details will come forth. Until then, this story will be continued.

[UFO] Disclosure as a Zero Sum Game

In 1947 mathematicians Von Neumann and Morgenstern published a book on the theory of games. One premise of this book was that mathematics could be applied to the study of social relations in the form of a game. It was not intended to oversimplify complex social interactions but an attempt to analyze relatively simple aspects of that interaction. One concept that was introduced in the book was the zero-sum game. A zero-sum game is one in which the sum of all the payoffs in the game is zero. Whatever is won by one player is lost by the other and vice-versa. For example, if one player ‘wins’ a point, the other player loses a point. The total number of points available to win or lose does not change and therefore the net sum of those points is always the same - zero. The interaction of the players, or the play of the game, results in a differential of points but the sum remains zero. Each payoff is considered to have some utility (benefit) to a player. Utilities can be perceived as large or small advantages. In a mathematical analysis, points can be assigned to utilities. If the game is played well both players are using a rational strategy to minimize losing large point utilities to the opponent. If the game is played with this optimum strategy by both players, the game is said to be in equilibrium. That does not mean neither player is winning, it means the point difference is staying, relatively, the same.

The on-going interaction some of us have had with our governments on the question of the UFO phenomena could be viewed as a social game as described above. As long as there is no public confirmation about the reality of the UFO phenomenon by world governments (especially ours) the game goes on and there are no absolute winners or losers. The government is risking some loss in government confidence by the populace [not much of a risk]. As for our side, we are risking ridicule, our jobs, and our reputations. I am not suggesting that we do a math analysis to quantify this game at this point (it is not outside the realm of possibility to do such an analysis). However, it may be worthwhile to look at the game we are playing in terms of some of these concepts.

Let us start with some premises. Let us suppose that there is a cabal
(a secret organization populated by government intelligence agents and special civilian advisors) keeping the major cache of actual UFO related information. Many of us are convinced that our government and other governments have been withholding this information from the public by means of the highest secrecy. Let us also suppose that there is a group called Conscientious and Dedicated UFO Investigation Team (CONDUIT) who is intent on revealing the truth of the secrets on UFOs held by the cabal. Let us further make a huge leap of faith that these investigators are working in concert with each other and have drawn very similar conclusions about the phenomenon and the cabal. Then, we might consider this a game in play between two players.

Let us say that each side has some ‘tactics’ available for use in this game. These can be applied such as moves in a game of chess. Effective tactics for our side might include: obtaining and publicizing credible witness testimony or documents, conducting investigations of incidents, mainstream media coverage, rigorous review of historical records, or performing scientific analysis on possible artifacts. Effective tactics for their side might include: Operate a disinformation campaign, ‘rational’ explanations of incidents, silence on incidents, infiltration of UFO groups to disrupt them or gain information, promote ridicule of the phenomenon, etc. The planning and execution for the use of these tactics would constitute an effective strategy play in this game. The optimum strategy for each side will be revealed the more times, or the longer the game is played.

For the sake of argument, let’s say we have been playing this game since the Roswell incident in 1947. At that point, the Army Air Force first said they recovered a saucer and then retracted that claim. The cabal may have had its origins as a result of that incident because by deciding to lie about it, they established a need for withholding the truth of the details of such events from the public. Their initial tactics were to maintain a high level of secrecy through the intimidation of witnesses and to compartmentalize the information to a select few. The public would be given a false ‘cover’ story to placate the media (Cabal tactics: disinformation, intimidation and silence). CONDUIT may have joined the game ten days earlier with the sighting of saucer shaped craft by Ken Arnold over Mt. Rainier in Washington. With these two initial major stories, the public became interested in the possibility of alien visitors again. This was not some fear-based interest like the ‘alien scare’ of 1938 with the false radio broadcast of War of the Worlds. These were two valid reports by respected witnesses. Subsequently, UFO groups like Aerial Phenomenon Research Organization (APRO - 1952) and National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomenon (NICAP- 1957) began forming to investigate the phenomena. (Our tactics: trying to make serious studies of reported incidents and accumulation of witness testimonies) The game was on.

The Cabal has the Advantage in this Game
The cabal had the advantage in this game from the beginning. Assuming they had the craft and the bodies, more importantly they had the experience and means of organizing and running highly secretive operations. The U.S. government had just successfully completed one of the most extensive and complex secret projects in history; the development of the atomic bomb. 1947 was also the year the CIA was established as a federal agency. The CIA was staffed with agents that were already very experienced in the world of maintaining secrets, dis-information, spying, coercion of witnesses and command and control of the extensive network of clandestine operations that certainly could be utilized.

The CONDUIT puts on pressure to investigate
Initially, our side was struggling just to make sense of the occasional UFO reports that would be reported in the paper or by other occasional witnesses with the courage to come forward. Very quickly, however the phenomenon became the subject of ridicule or science fiction. It was easier for the public to make light of the rumored sightings and visits by “little green men” than to take it seriously. But after the mass sighting of Washington DC in 1952, our government was forced to take a more serious stance on the subject. The Robertson Panel, initiated by the CIA was convened in secret in 1953 to look into the UFO question (although the end result was to initiate a dis-information campaign). The Air Force established project “Sign” to take reports of the phenomenon in late 1947 and followed by project Blue Book. What neither side in this game could predict was what sighting or event would happen next. In the early 60’s, the Betty and Barney Hill abduction case became known. After that, more witnesses came forward with their own abduction stories. CONDUIT was being helped by more reports of incidents but the Cabal could use the offsetting tactics of disinformation, deflate/inflate the facts and promote ridicule.

In March 1966 near Dexter, Michigan a number of police officers and radar operators at Selfridge AFB observed four UFOs. This mass sighting led to a clamor for a government investigation of the incident. Congressman Gerald Ford called for an investigation into the entire phenomenon. Within months, the Air Force agreed to have an independent body conduct a ‘scientific’ investigation. In August 1966 The University of Colorado was awarded $500,000 to conduct this investigation. This was another use of the tactic of deception by the Cabal. The Condon Investigation was a sham that was never intended to get to the bottom of the UFO question (cabal tactic: give the appearance of trying to publicly investigate the phenomenon while continuing the disinformation campaign). In 1969 The Condon investigation report declared there was no national security interest in the investigation of UFO reports. The Air Force used these pre-ordained results to stop official investigations of UFO sightings.

The Cabal Regains the Advantage
After the Condon report, there were no official investigations of UFO sightings. CONDUIT was left to its own resources for identifying and investigating UFO reports. Some of these reports, of course seemed fantastic and others were manufactured by the Cabal to promote public skepticism. In addition, the aspect of the phenomenon of abduction (by extra-terrestrial aliens) became more pronounced during the 1980’s and 1990’s as more witnesses came forward. The public and media perception of the phenomenon again leaned toward ridicule and disbelief.

The CONDUIT rallies
In 1978 one of the CONDUIT started an investigation that would shake the Cabal. Nuclear propulsion scientist Stanton Freidman who had become interested in the truth of the UFO phenomena interviewed retired Air Force Major Jesse Marcel. Marcel was an intelligence officer at the Air Force base near Roswell, New Mexico in July 1947 when he inspected the crashed remains of ‘flying saucer’. From this initial disclosure, much has been written and many witnesses have come forward to testify as to the events. So much interest resulted in these reports that the Air Force found it necessary to re-visit the incident with their own ‘investigation’. In 1994 they issued a report stating that they verified the crashed debris was simply that of a weather balloon. In 1995 they amended that story and claimed that the balloon was actually used as a vehicle for spying on the Soviet nuclear program activities. However, the Roswell incident has now been widely accepted because of the large number of witnesses that have come forward supporting the basic story told by Major Marcel.

In 1997 hundreds of people reported seeing a huge object flying over the Phoenix, Arizona area. The witnesses of this event include the ex-governor of the state. To date, this sighting has not been credibly challenged by the government.

In 2001 a large group of civilian and ex-military witnesses held a press conference in Washington DC disclosing more credible reports of UFO encounters. I am proud to say I was one of those witnesses. Again, these disclosures have not been credibly challenged by our government.

In 2007 and again in 2010, more credible ex-military witnesses, including those from other nations came together in press conferences to disclose their UFO encounters at military bases.

The State of Play
Today the Cabal and the CONDUIT are still engaged in this zero-sum game. Although the CABAL continues to use the tactics of silence, ridicule, dis-information and media control, it could be argued they are becoming less effective in the battle for public opinion. Silence in the face of mounting evidence to the reality of the phenomenon cannot remain a viable government response indefinitely. The witness intimidating effects of ridicule can remain effective if CONDUIT players continue to promote questionable stories or speculative opinions, or unsupported claims. These mis-guided activities make it easier for the media to promote the ridicule that has haunted the accurate reporting on the subject.

Recently, positive outcomes (‘utilities’) have accrued to CONDUIT in this game. On September 27, 2010, I and Robert Hastings successfully organized a press conference in Washington DC. During this event, seven of us former military produced testimony and documentation to support the reality of UFO incidents at nuclear weapons bases. This reality flies in the face of U.S. Air Force claims that “No UFO reported, investigated and evaluated by the Air Force was ever an indication of threat to our national security”, as stated in the official Air Force policy on UFOs. The Air Force has yet to respond to our statements of fact. The longer they maintain their silence on this matter, the greater credibility our position takes in the mind of the public. The impact of our press conference resulted in a great deal of press and media coverage. The video of the conference is now being shown in many parts of the world. They can maintain their silence on the matter in the short term, but if that silence continues, our side will continue to have the momentum in this game.
In addition, Wikileaks has informed the public that they are in possession of documents that point to on-going government investigation and knowledge of the UFO phenomenon. Therefore, we can anticipate the release of more validating documents. Also, due to previous witness testimony, other witnesses will continue to come forward at a faster rate. There are indications that we are out-growing this game.

The zero-sum game is an ‘enclosed’ game where no one emerges from the enclosure to declare himself the winner. This kind of game is ideal for governments to play with the public where they are attempting to hold secrets. It is ideal for the UFO secrets cover-up. But it seems to me that this game is now evolving toward and end-game. If we can achieve government disclosure, the score will no longer be a zero-sum.
