Strange Track at NORAD Control Center (1973) – My UFO Experience

"In winter(?) 1973, I was duty officer at a NORAD control center, Murphy Dome AFS, AK. One of my radar techs pointed out to me a strange track he had picked up. I watched it for a while, deciding how we should classify it or not. It's speed was about 2,100 mph, heading about 150 deg. That's significantly faster than any jet plane we had data on in our aircraft recognition manuals.

We knew nothing about SR-71's. It's possible we had detected one returning from Siberia. However, we had the flight plans (secret) for our spy plane missions and normally watched them leaving and returning. Nothing corresponded to this.

The abnormal appearance of the object's radar "paint" was what I focused on. Our (very primitive) computer could create synthetic tracks and superimpose them onto our radar screens along with the (analog) radar. These tracks could be "flown" from a console in another room. They were used to let us perform simulated intercept missions of our jet fighters vs "Soviet" aircraft . Given foul weather, it was often not possible to meet our training requirements for intercepts using real aircraft.

First, the computer simulated "paints" had a recognizably different appearance from real radar "paints" (imposed by the laws of physics). Second, there were "bugs" in the computer software such that it occasionally spontaneously-generated such tracks, with no one at the console.

This particular track did not look either quite like a real radar "paint" or a typical synthetic track but more like the latter than the former. It designated it a "bug" track with slight misgivings.

The thing about such computer generated tracks is that there are no physical limitations on performance. Such a track could fly at mach 20 and make right angle turns, etc. In sensor systems, you are never looking at raw focal plane, etc., data. You are looking at a computer screen at computer processed data. I would always want to know whether a potential UFO appeared simultaneously on multiple sensors and/or was seen with the human eye. I'm a little suspicious that a Chinese electronic component may have found its way into some of our systems and could be a source of some observed phenomena.

Overall, I'm open to whatever hard evidence might show, but as an astrophysicist and amateur astronomer, I spent a lot of time looking at the sky. This one, probably explained, incident is the only one I've personally experienced in a lifetime.

PS: There were a good number of tactical nukes in AK back then. There were never any tracks focused on these. (Our computer system displayed all the integrated tracks from all the radars in the Alaska NORAD region + part of Canada and Siberia.)

The sailor who was dispatched to hurry me, wearing only my skivvy shorts, to the bridge, happened to be my best friend, a very excited seaman, Larry Allen, a Quartermaster striker on duty at that time during the mid-watch.

Larry said there was a big UFO directly over our ship, and Lt. Walter needs you on the bridge on the double!!

We both scrambled through the ship and up the ladders to the bridge. When we arrived, everyone was silent, like a movie, it was strange. Lt. Walter said, “You just missed it, a giant UFO was just above us, and it’s bright light lit up everything”.

I asked the radar man if it appeared on his screen. He said, “I don’t know, I was to busy looking at it directly overhead”.

Our crew estimated this event was no more than a 5 minute experience and I had just missed it, but my friend Larry got a good look at it before he ran to get me. It disappeared just before we arrived on the bridge.

I asked those on the bridge what emotion they felt when viewing this silent flying device? They answered: fear and awe.

Our sonar-men had occasionally detected a metallic object beneath the surface of the ocean making huge circles around our ship as we cruised at 14 knots, also in the Channel Islands area.

Dechmont Woods UFO Incident: A Local Resident Chimes In

Dechmont, specifically Dechmont Hill, though listed as not part of it, is in fact an area of Livingston New Town West Lothian. I lived in Livingston for 18 years and at the time of Bob Taylor’s encounter lived in the Deans South area of the town.

Which is not at all far from the hill and the surrounding woodland. I would fairly often go for walks there with my dog or friends; it is the highest point in the area and there are views out to Edinburgh and the River Fourth.

I was about 13 when the events in question took place.

Robert Taylor - Eyewitness To The Dechmont Woods UFO Incident

Bob Taylor was a worker for the LDC, if I recall right. LDC was the Livingston Development Corporation that was the local council that was in charge of the town including the local forestry.

He lived with his wife about 10 mins walk from my house, although I never knew him personally, my uncle was aware of him through work.

My uncle was at the time a huge skeptic of the UFO subject but I do remember him saying at the time, Bob was not the type to make up stories, he was a very quiet, and down to Earth man with no malice or nonsense about him.

My uncle, years later revised his opinion, I'll come to that.The skeptic part I mean.

Ok enough back ground.

I first heard of the encounter very close to the time of the event, it’s so long ago ... certainly within days. At school, we were buzzing with the news, my classmate was frantic. He said on the night before the encounter, his uncle as I recall had said he had seen what he took to be a helicopter hovering and shining bright spotlights on to 2 others. Even at the time I thought this was very unlikely–we never saw helicopters back then, let alone 3 acting so oddly.

Now, I may be wrong about the timeline here, but I think it's right: The event happened on Friday, I am sure we heard about it on the news, must have been on Saturday, in any case me and 2 school mates headed out to find the site on that Sunday afternoon.

I realize it is possible because of the elapsed time since and the possible time of news reports it may have been a week later, but for all these years I thought it was the same week as the event.

We did not as far as I know find the actual landing site, however, it is possible the police had not fenced it off yet so we may well have walked right by it. Bob said it was in a clearing, there were several. We did find something we thought was very strange though.

It was a very cold and misty afternoon, I think there may have been a slight frost, but I may be wrong. We came across a pile of ash that was still slightly warm. It was about 3 feet high, dome shaped and about 5 feet across. I lived in the area for all those years and never saw that in the woods before or since. I am not suggesting it had anything to do with the case, but at the time we did wonder if someone was hiding something. This was very fine light grey ash, it would have been a very hot fire indeed.

The area in general has a lot of UFO sightings. In the early 90's it was part of a rash of them.

Fast forward to 1991. I was playing in a band for a Christmas show. The organiser of this was a man named Lain Drumond. Later he reported his father was Bob Taylor's supervisor in the council

A detail that I have not read or heard anywhere else is that he was at the scene, I don't know if Bob was there too, when the police arrived to investigate. Has said that far from carefully preserving the scene, they tramped all over it with their big boots! The boss (I think was) Malcolm Drummond, protested and the officer in charge got them to stop it before the forensic team turned up and took all the data.

Encounters in the Area

The men in the car reporting a possible abduction were driving in the Pentland Hills, to the south of Livingston. I mentioned my Uncle changed his mind about UFOs: In the mid-2000s he told me on the phone he had witnessed a classic silver disk hovering not too far from his 4th floor window. He said the object had been videotaped by a woman in the town and it was on the evening news. He didn’t go into any more detail, but I can assure you 100% with the amount of scorn and ridicule he heaped on the subject for years, if he said he saw that, he did.

So for now, I hope some of that is of interest. I'll pass on some more later.

Oh except for this one, a friend of mine was at primary school in the Ladywell area of Livingston, this would have been late 70's he had been off school with a cold. When he went in this morning, he said the whole school was buzzing. The story goes, at break time a "flying saucer" had flown low directly over the playground and most of the school kids had seen it and were going crazy with excitement. Sorry it's hazy and third hand but he was emphatic that his mates were pretty freaked out by it.

UFO Sighted Near Saint Martin – MY UFO EXPERIENCE

Here follows the UFO sighting I experienced in the Caribbean. I've run over the sighting several times in my mind, looked at topographical maps of Saint Martin online and at my old sailing logbook to help confirm some details.

Date: 21st Nov 1990 (the day before Thanksgiving which is why I could remember on how to confirm the date)

Time: from about 6.30pm local time

Location: Around the south east coast of Saint Martin looking east from Great Bay.

I was crew on a private sailing yacht anchored in Great Bay in the area where the cruise ship terminal is now. We were there to pick up the American owner and family who were flying into the island that evening. I was working on deck finishing preparations for his arrival. The stewardess had come up from down below and suddenly said "my god, what on earth is that?"

I looked up (to the east) to where she was pointing and saw a light in the sky. It didn't have the precise definition of an aircraft navigation light but had a vague 'fuzzy' edge to it. The colour was changing and merging from shades of gold to green to red and white and perhaps pulsing slightly.

The first thing that struck me about the object was the way in which it moved. It was constantly moving slowly around but in a most irregular manner. Sometimes it moved one way for several seconds but soon changed course, it sometimes moved more upwards, sometimes more downwards. Occasionally it headed on more of a steady course but was still continually weaving and 'bobbling' as it did so. On at least two occasions it did stop but then immediately changed to a bizarre motion of that of a falling leaf. It would 'flutter' down some height and then resume its random flight pattern again.

After maybe 15 minutes it disappeared behind one of the large hills to the east. I was very disappointed at this stage to see it go. I kept looking up from my work and maybe about 20 minutes later there it was again in the same area of the sky. Again it followed the same irregular motion. I had to keep working but kept checking to see if it was still around, after maybe 6 or 7 minutes it was there no more and I didn't see it again.

The owner and family came on board maybe be an hour later. Soon afterwards there was a call on the VHF radio distress frequency (channel 16 which is always left on) from the coastguard. (I think it was probably an American coastguard ship as the accent was American - the island is half Dutch, half French).

They were asking if anybody had seen an aircraft crash into the sea as this had been reported to them earlier that evening. I think we reported back we had seen a light moving erratically but nothing hitting the sea. We then left the bay and spent the next few days moored at Saint Barthelemy, the first island to the south east. I checked the newspapers there for two or three days afterwards but there was no report of any aircraft crashing or going missing.

The object was never that far away form us. Measuring from the map below I would say it was between just over half a kilometer and two and a half kilometers away. The object was never above the height of the large hill (200m) as the hills were silhouetted behind it as we watched it. At no time was there any noise from the object at all. It was a typically fine Caribbean evening, a light wind, clear skies and probably the occasional cumulus cloud. I didn't see or hear any other aircraft at the time.

The size of the object is difficult to define but using a scale of 1 to 10 where 1 is a star and 10 is the moon (high in the sky and not close to the horizon) I would say it was a 4 at its closest point to us.

On a personal note I have always had a keen interest in flying and aviation since early childhood and always observe aircraft and have a good knowledge of their flight characteristics and also of their navigation lights I used to teach the theory of flight when I was a gliding instructor.

We were talking casually between one another when we both turned simultaneously to notice a disc shaped Unidentified Flying Object that was hovering motionless about 300 feet away, and about 10 feet off of the ground. There was no sound whatsoever emanating from the object. I became enthusiastic, and so did Linda. I asked of her to go back to the store and tell everyone inside to come out and see this.

After she had left, the Unidentified Flying Object gradually proceeded towards me. It stopped about 40 feet away from where I was standing, hovering about 10 feet off of the ground. I was completely alone with that Unidentified Flying Object for about one full minute. There was no physical or psychological sensation or reaction during this time. It then exited the sky in non ballistic motion and was gone.

This event changed my life for the rest of my life. I do not remember the exact physical characteristics of the Unidentified Flying Object. My experiences over the years did not permit reflection upon the event, or the visual reinforcement of memory despite having a photographic quotient. My encounters with people that were inclined to alter my recollection in specificity had left me with discrepancies in memory of affect to a perceived honesty concerning the event. My family was not supportive, and I found myself the victim of systematically inflicted psychiatric injuries where the gaps in conscious memory were filled in an unconscious process that was beyond my control in the nearest available thought formulation that was associated to the event that could not be reconciled as the actuality. I suspect that this was used to degrade the integrity of the event as the product of a dislocation from reality, or the fantasy compensation of a young mind that could not possibly understand the experience in which the inconsistencies in communication of the event were the primary intention in a discredit to me. I strongly suspect that this is not limited to me.

This is what was flying in the sky with one single light which we thought it was a drone at first but then it disappeared and to my left when I saw 5 lights appear flying

Here are the five lights that I Saw 2nd

On24 it was barely getting dark like around 8:30 the UFO or whatever it was look like a drum first and then as I was approaching it it kept going in a triangle motion flying and going and turning in and slipping and five lights on it and I thought it was like a sprayer for the fields for the chemical sprayer but it turns out there's no sprayer like that and as I was approaching it when it was coming around it stopped right in front of me and there was a car coming in front of me and as I was about to like past it I was sitting bricks I was I was scared and it stood in place and when I went right underneath it I could look I looked up and I could see and hear what sounded like something huge big like big and it just it was real skinny in it I could say just look like maybe a skinny triangle thing I don't know … it was just flying on one crop back and forth in a triangle motion and another car passed me at the same time when I was passing it so it had to see it as well.

What I mean by fighting a triangle motion is that instead of flying back and forth back and forth and a straight line it was flying in a triangle motion and going up and down low high flipping and then as at when I was going to pass it stood in place like if it was going to abduct me or something and then and let me pass right underneath a not even four feet above me was it I was so terrified

Enormous UFO Reported By Veteran Airline Pilot – Phoenix Lights 22nd Anniversary

The huge mass – at least a mile wide – approached from the North West. I could land on it with my 727. We began to eliminate possibilities. What ever it was seemed to be following the Tonto One arrival, the standard jet arrival routing for instrument traffic into PHX on an approximate heading of 120°. I estimated its altitude to be 10,000 feet. No C-130’s, it wasn’t a formation of jets – too slow for either of them. Helicopters? Not that either – no “wop-wop,” no sound. None. Cessna’s wired with weird lights? Its happened, but that wasn’t the case on March 13th.

I should have counted the lights, should have run for a camera and called my friend Bob Mohan, a local talk radio guy. I awoke from a brief nap in my recliner and leaned over to tell my wife that I was going to bed. I glanced to the clock on the television, it was 8:30 pm. As I walked down the hallway to the master bedroom, I noticed the bedroom window was open. The weather was most pleasant this March 13 evening, temp. 75 degrees, clear and no wind.(Jim Schnebelt Fox 10 weather) Typical Arizona spring evening. I ran down the hallway, grabbed my glasses off the bar and yelled to my wife, of 25 years, "get outside right now!" Without hesitation she followed me out the back arcadia door to the edge of our patio. (I have timed this since and it took app. 8-10 sec)

Standing at the edge of our patio, facing west, and looking north, confussion struck me. For there was no plane crash, but coming from the north and heading south was one, single structure that looked like a giant boomerang. (the description of boomerang, chevron (best), and V shaped object all apply). This object stuck out like a sore thumb in the evening sky due to the fact we were looking north towards the Phoenix metro area, and the city lights gave us a grey background in which to view this huge black V shaped object. It was so low to the surface we could not believe it. I remember saying, "what the hell is that?"

The huge mass – at least a mile wide – approached from the North West. I could land on it with my 727. We began to eliminate possibilities. What ever it was seemed to be following the Tonto One arrival, the standard jet arrival routing for instrument traffic into PHX on an approximate heading of 120°. I estimated its altitude to be 10,000 feet. No C-130’s, it wasn’t a formation of jets – too slow for either of them. Helicopters? Not that either – no “wop-wop,” no sound. None. Cessna’s wired with weird lights? Its happened, but that wasn’t the case on March 13th.

After a few minutes of observation we concluded that this was one object. There was zero movement between its massive forward-facing amber lights. I should have counted the lights, should have run for a camera and called my friend Bob Mohan, a local talk radio guy. The craft had intercepted Scottsdale Road, and made a right turn to approximately 180º following it south. It was headed right for Mo’s house.

Jet Fighter Follows UFO Over Tampa | MY UFO EXPERIENCE (Redux)

I did not know who or how to contact someone with this "sighting" and still a little apprehensive to call my local TV station. My fiance and I were driving in Tampa this morning and at around 9:50 am, we saw what appeared to be a craft which was white and bulbous (which I assume to be the front) and a lip on the back-end; it looked like a side view of a horse shoe crab.

We had a very good view of it and we could tell that it was traveling far into the distance at a very high rate of speed and then it was gone. it just seem to disappear.

This went on for less than a minute and about 2 minutes later we saw a fighter jet (MacDill AFB is not far from where we were) which seemed to be in pursuit, it was following the same trajectory as this craft. Just so you are aware, Tampa International Airport is not far from where we were and we can always see the planes come and go and there is NO WAY that a commercial airplane could be traveling at that rate of speed and so high up taking off from the airport.

We were just wondering if you have heard about any sightings in or around this area recently, or maybe explain to us what we saw. Any information would be much appreciated, thanks!

UFO Emits Beam, Couple Experiences Missing Time (Redux)

My girlfriend an I were camping in the backyard in the west end of Council Bluffs,IA. I noticed an object high in the sky traveling from horizon to horizon like a satellite except it was red and traveling somewhat faster and moving side to side in a wave motion, not a fixed pattern but not exactly random either. time later we saw a disc shaped object with red lights on its perimeter from a distance of about two miles. it seemed to be moving above the trees near the Missouri river or following the river itself. not quite hovering, but moving slowly while tipping on its sides and demonstrating to us that this was something very unusual. We watched it head south until we lost it below the trees.

We stayed alert and debated if we should go to Lewis and Clark monument, a park on the bluffs overlooking C.B and Omaha. About 5 or 10 minutes after last seeing the object, it flew almost directly over our heads, about a block away, now going north and still just above treetop level. we lost site of it and decided to go ahead and drive to the park.

On the way we were driving through Big Lake park and I was keeping watch. I saw the object coming in our direction, still at treetop level, except I had the eerie feeling that it was coming for us. We panicked. I wanted to hide under the train bridge near the tennis court and my girlfriend stopped the car about 50 yards short of the bridge. we ran to and under the bridge to hide.

I've never experienced that kind of fear before or since, but, like a couple of prairie dogs we felt compelled to peek out and see more of this incredible object–so we did. It was hovering above a large cottonwood tree near the tennis court about 50 to 75 yards away from us. It was still dark out.

The disc looked about 100 feet in diameter with large red rectangular lights flashing in sequence around its edge which seemed to be about 15 feet thick. As we watched, frozen with awe and fear it dipped its edge while hovering. one of the red light went out and in its place a beam of light shot out of it and shined directly at us.

The next thing either of us remember is that it was now daylight and we were back in the car driving towards our original destination of Lewis and Clark monument.

We called police and they said they had a report of something in Missouri Valley, IA, about 20 miles to the north. Animals were behaving strangely; either they were oddly quiet or behaving wildly. When we drove back through Big Lake Park there were people there who said they saw nothing.

I don't really know how much time we are talking about here. In 1974 I had never heard of the phenomenon of "missing time", but over the years I became well schooled with the term. We make no claims of abduction.

Dr. kasher of Univ. of Nebraska at Omaha, after hearing my story referred me to a hypnotist. I never went ... maybe out of fear. I was afraid to know anymore. To this day I feel I know enough.

My girlfriend and I went home that morning and drew identical pictures and repeated identical stories. I've had no credibility ever since. You have to understand at the time I thought the world was coming to an end or something.

In 1977 an article came out in popular mechanics about an incident that happened very near there involving a blob of molten metal falling 500 feet from an object similar in description to what we saw. Jacqes Vallee came to investigate that occurrence. That is why I repeat my story and will always harbor these hazy memories and questions.

In 2001 I filed a report with NICAP, but I know that MUFON is the proper agency for that now. I've never seen or experienced anything like that since. but I feel it in my gut every day.

Cigar-Shaped UFO In The Neighborhood – MY UFO EXPERIENCE

I was on my back porch smoking a cigar in Haverhill, Ma. It was August 10, 2015 at 10: 00 pm. this long dark elongated object, with illuminated nose went across the back of my house. My guess is it was about 50 ft in length and 15 ft across?. A cigar shape, in a way, but the bottom was flat and dark. it came from the north west and went south east. Speed was approximately 30 - 40 mph. It was very low

flying. At most it was 50 ft off ground. It was roof of house high. The object flew by only about 75 yds from me. There were no marking or Windows. No sound at all. I only saw it for about 5- 10 seconds before it went behind the houses across the street. I did noticed the front of the craft had something strange going on, but I can't really describe it. Lite up, yet not a light. It was kind of like looking at a light through water. I do not know what it was, but I do know what it wasn't.
