Mystery Radar Blips Appear Over Illinois and Kentucky

The origin of mysterious blips that appeared across radar in southern Illinois and western Kentucky Monday night may have come from military aircraft, but nearby military bases say they had nothing to do with it.

The three UFO sightings examined in this story occurred in Southern Illinois.

In a July 2017 interview, Melvern Noll described the object that he saw on January 5, 2000, in Highland. “I thought it was a bright star,” Noll said.

Then, it came down from the sky and Noll realized that it was something else. “To me, it looked like a two-story house. It was the size of a football field,” Noll said.

“It was two different floors. It had big windows — three on the lower deck and three on the top deck. Way up on top, there was like a penthouse with a dim light in it. Underneath, it had red lights in a diamond shape,” Noll said.

It flew very close to where Noll was standing. “If somebody had looked out one of the windows, I could have seen it,” Noll said. No one did.

Although UFO sightings are down from their peak years, voyagers from space are still among us, and there's video over Champaign to prove it. The skies here have had decades of brightly lit flying objects, to go by News-Gazette clippings.

That flying saucer parked just south of Champaign? Sorry, that's the State Farm Center. But the Foo Fighters, who took their name from what Air Force pilots in World War II called UFOs, did play there in 2000 and 2005.

The big boom for UFO spottings started in 1947, said Mark Rodeghier, the director of the Allen Hynek Center for UFO Studies in Chicago. There were many reports during the 1950s and 1960s, with some going back in Illinois to 1897.

Green Fireball Caught on Camera Over Midwest | VIDEO

Twitter lit up with reports of a meteor or fireball streaking across the sky and seen in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Kentucky.

Many people reported seeing a green fireball, possibly a meteor, streaking across the sky late Friday around 10:15 p.m. Central time. The fireball could be seen from the Chicago suburbs.

Reports of the sighting also were coming in from people in Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee, according to WGN radio news anchor Steve Grzanich from Chicago and Fox News meteorologist Chris Higgins from St. Louis.

But this was no symbolic vigil; they weren’t waiting for the birth of baby Jesus. They were waiting to depart the Earth, and 200 more people had come to watch them wait.

Mystery bright orb appears and vanishes in a second

     As storm clouds gathered over Oak Park, Illinois, on the evening of July 13, an individual, videotaping an impressive display of heat lightning, also captured something else streaking through the field of view.

The image above shows a bright, glowing object quickly enter the left side of the video in front of -- rather than behind -- a tree. This thing moves swiftly down and to the right, disappearing from view.

The Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) -- a nonprofit group that documents and investigates global UFO sightings -- is not yet releasing the name of the witness. The case is listed as No. 68838 in the MUFON database.

"I was shooting video of a storm cloud emitting heat lightning from our back porch," the witness stated in the July 31 case report. "When I viewed the video I saw a streak of light that I cannot explain or rationalize." ...

      An Oak Park, IL, witness shooting video of a storm cloud caught something else on camera he could not identify, according to testimony in Case 68838 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

“I was shooting video of a storm cloud emitting heat lightning from our back porch,” the witness stated. “When I viewed the video I saw a streak of light that I cannot explain or rationalize.”

The witness slowed the video speed down and shoed it to friends – who could not identify what the light was. Someone recommended the witness pass the video along to MUFON.

“The orb appears 11 seconds in.” ...

Giant UFO Looked Like ‘Star Wars’ Ship

      An Illinois witness at Waltonville reported watching a “giant ship” with a slight glow to it that moved overhead on August 23, 2014, according to testimony in Case 59230 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was fishing with friends when the object was noticed “just cruising along at a very high altitude.”

“This thing had to be at least a half mile long or longer,” the witness stated. “It wasn’t lit up bright. It had a slight glow to it .Nothing fancy.”

The object reminded the witness of ships depicted in Hollywood films.

“I have seen a lot of things in the night sky and have never seen anything like this. It reminded me of some of the giant ships on the ‘Star Wars’ movie.”

The witness provided one illustration (above) with the MUFON report, which was submitted on August 25, 2014.

“I have included a very generic picture I made in Paint real quick just to give a basic outline. Please remember that this is just the bottom of the object so I have no idea on how tall this thing was.” . . .

Police Officer Reports Sphere UFOs Over Niles, Illinois

      An Illinois law enforcement officer patrolling in Niles reported watching two silent, pulsing, red sphere-shaped UFOs, according to testimony in Case 57602 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The officer was patrolling in the 8700 block of North Milwaukee Avenue about 11:15 p.m. on July 3, 2014, when the objects were first seen.

“My eye was caught by two pulsing, round red lights in the southwest sky, one on top of the other, which appeared to be a cell or water tower in the vicinity of Maryhill Cemetery,” the witness stated. “This caused me to do a complete double-take, because I know there are no such structures in that area.”

One of the objects began moving slowly from west to east. . . .

. . . “They were basketball-sized spheres, approximately five-times the size of the strobe lights on an airplane, with a shimmery white halo completely circling the sphere. The red light was unlike anything I have ever seen, having a pulsating, almost ‘liquid’ or ‘living’ appearance, and glowing, rather than piercing the night sky. The white light appeared like an aura (similar to the heat you see emanating from a rocket or jet engine). I was awestruck.” . . .

     On my drive to work, roughly 4am chicago time) I saw strange lights almost immediately once I got out of my subdivision and onto a secondary road. Whilst driving west on 143 rd st. in Homer Glen from west of Parker rd to HWY i355 I was completely enamored by these strangely shaped beams of light. Once I got to the HWY I saw them more clearly. Just by luck I had my "good" cell phone with me and was able to snap a shot of the lights.

The lights did not move, they did not make noise. I observed them from some distance. I was on the HWY and they looked to be high in the sky off in the distance south of i355 @ archer ave. exit.

One was red-orange, one was white, one was yellow, and the others were very faint, but there seemed to be at least 4 and as many as 6 beams of light.

I first thought that the lights may be some chemical reaction of the gasses released into the atmosphere by the refinery, but then I saw the smoke from the refinery being blown away almost immediately escaping the smoke stack, and these lights were high above making it seem impossible that plumes of anything would go straight up because of the winds that morning.

my feelings were that of amazement. I don't like to jump to conclusions as to what this may be. I am smart enough o realize that I do not know much about chemical reactions of gasses in the atmosphere and I also know nothing about aliens, or UFO sightings.

I lost sight of the object by the time I got to the i55 exit because I kept driving on my way to work.

      At 8:30 pm my wife and I were traveling down Morgan st when I turned my head to the left and 3 large sets of strange reddish orange lights in the western part of the sky towards Beardstown. They were spread out in a triangle formation. the light would appear and would last about 3 seconds before they would disappear. As that light would go out at the same time next to it another light would begin to appear. this went on for a short while then as if there was nothing there they disappeared.

I did manage to get some video but it didn't turn out very well.

     Multiple Illinois witnesses at Beach Park reported watching and videotaping a low flying sphere that apparently reacted to their flashlight, according to testimony in Case 47618 closed as an Unknown Aerial Vehicle, the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) announced September 19, 2013.

The reporting witness was visiting family in Beach Park when the object was first noticed about 10:15 p.m. on May 25, 2013.

"The object was moving and then started to hover and then drifted back over," the witness stated. "It started to change colors, dip down, fly up and all over. At this point knew I was seeing something extraordinary and started shouting for everyone to go look outside."

Other family came outside to witness the light in the sky that seemed to dip low over one particular area.

"It was amazing and flew in such a fluid way. I've never seen anything like it. It definitely seemed to have an interest in a certain little area as it would keep dipping down. That seemed to be a common theme."

The witness ran inside and retrieved a flashlight and began shining it at the object.

"Started to shine the light at it in a Morse Code fashion and right away it took notice and flew towards us, almost like a curious bee. At this point my heart was pounding a bit because I did not know what was going to happen, but this was awesome. After a while it lost interest and went back to bumbling around over its area." . . .

     Viewer @FeliciaCago from Logan Square took the above video of what she believes could be a UFO.

Peter Davenport, the director of the National UFO Reporting Center, said the center is overwhelmed with calls from across the nation with reports of seeing the same figures: a cluster of orange, red or yellow lights.

On July 4, 2013, Davenport said he received 50 UFO reports over the span of 12-15 hours from across the country claiming to have seen a similar light cluster.

According to The Mutual UFO Network, there were at least four UFO reports in Illinois. . . .

     HECKER, IL (CNN/KPLR) -- Some people in southern Illinois are reporting something strange hovering in the skies in recent days and nobody knows what it is. We've got images of the lights from a local newspaper, and they bring to mind the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." At the Hecker Country Store it's been the hot topic of discussion all day long. Hecker Country Store owner Angel Andrews says, "Everybody keeps coming in, starting at breakfast through lunch, stating they saw something in the sky." What they've seen has them all mystified. Judy Rachell says, "Large, bright light with four lights around it rotating, some have said its single, bright solid colored light, others have said it's red, green, yellow and pink just rotating around." . . .
