USAF Security Policeman Sights Orbs Near ICBM Launch Site

USAF Security Policeman Sights Orbs Near ICBM Launch Site - www.theufochronicles.com

Between 1973 and 2010, I interviewed 167 former/retired US military personnel regarding their nuclear weapons-related UFO encounters. More than a hundred of those accounts were presented in the second edition of my book, UFOs and Nukes: Extraordinary Encounters at Nuclear Weapons Sites. [ad]

Since 2010, I’ve more or less ceased investigating the topic, primarily due to advancing age. Recently, however, another military veteran contacted me after reading a post by Joe Murgia on X (@TheUfoJoe) regarding my work. I was of course interested in what he had to say.

Former US Air Force Security Policeman Devin C. Lingo emailed me and briefly summarized an incident he witnessed while stationed at Malmstrom AFB, Montana, in 1995, involving two orbs maneuvering near a Minuteman-III nuclear missile launch facility (LF).

I asked Lingo to provide me with his DD214 document, which is a Department of Defense record of his military service. It confirmed that he had been stationed at Malmstrom beginning in February 1995, and had been a Security Police/Security Forces member assigned to the 12th Missile Squadron.

Once his bona fides had been established, I called Lingo. He told me,

At the time, I was an Airman, a trainee, preparing to become a full-fledged member of an Alert Response Team (ART). The person supervising my training was an Airman 1st Class named Brent Mullings. Our particular group of ARTs would rapidly respond to alarms at any of the Fox Flight missile sites, to determine whether or not there was a real security threat.

On the day of my sighting, we had six alarms at one LF! That was a record, at least for me, during the years that I worked there. The site was Launch Facility Fox-2, located on Pishkun Road, just west of the town of Choteau, Montana.

The first Outer Zone alarm came in around 6:00 p.m. We quickly proceeded out there to investigate. Our alarms were triggered by the sensors on the IMPSS pole at each site. That’s the Improved Minuteman Physical Security System, which is basically a motion-detection system. Almost all of the time, an alarm was set-off by a wild animal or something like that.

That evening, we discovered a rabbit inside the fence. I tried to scare it away by throwing rocks at it, but it kept hiding inside a culvert. Eventually we left but, over the next several hours, we had to return five more times to reset the alarms.

I asked Lingo why they didn’t just shoot the rabbit. He responded, “The only way we had to kill it was with our duty weapons—M-16 A2 rifles—and that wasn't an option. Had we returned to base after our [shift] and turned-in our weapons to the armory with missing rounds, it would have been a big deal. Also, I personally wouldn't have felt good about killing a rabbit over an alarm.”

He continued,

My orb sighting took place during our last visit, at roughly 4:00 a.m. I had gotten out of the truck and was standing on the site access road. As I was facing west towards the Rockies, in my peripheral vision I saw a small reddish glow in the sky. For a moment, I thought that it might be the Northern Lights.

I turned my head to the right and immediately saw that it was actually a small, glowing object, just hovering there. I couldn’t tell how far away it was. As I was trying to figure out what I was looking at, another object just like it, but blue in color, suddenly appeared. It was to the left of the red one. They were very close together, from my perspective, and at the same altitude. Both seemed to shimmer as if they were energized somehow.

I was stunned! I had no idea what I was looking at. After a few seconds, the red object blinked-out. Gone, just like that. A second or two later, the blue object shot straight up into the sky and instantly disappeared. There was no noise.

During this final alarm of the night, Brent felt sorry for me because I had already conducted the five previous searches, so he decided to run the final one himself. So I just stood there on the LF access road, covering him and giving status-updates to our Flight Security Controller on the two-way radio.

During the time-frame when I noticed the orbs, Brent was doing his detailed search on the LF. His focus would have been on searching the ground within the fence with his flashlight. I’m sure that he didn’t see them.

I was the new guy, the trainee, so I quickly decided that I wouldn’t mention what I saw to Brent, or anyone else. I was afraid that they would think I was crazy. I was worried about losing my PRP.

(RH: Anyone assigned to work with or around nuclear weapons is subject to a Department of Defense directive known as the Personnel Reliability Program, or PRP. An individual whose conduct, on or off-the-job, is judged by his or her superiors to be suspect and, therefore, a potential threat to the weapons, may be ordered to undergo psychological evaluation and risks being relieved of duty. In short, if one wishes to continue working with nuclear weapons while serving in the U.S. Air Force, reporting a UAP is definitely not a good career move. Unfortunately, this situation has undoubtedly resulted in a great many sightings at ICBM sites going unrecorded over the years, something arguably detrimental to US national security.)

Lingo continued,

So, that’s where I left things. I never talked about the incident, but I sure wondered about what I had seen! I don't believe that any other members of my squadron ever mentioned seeing anything strange in the sky. Even if someone had seen something out of the ordinary, there's a high probability that they would never have reported it out of fear of ridicule.

The only other sighting that I'd heard rumors about happened on the east side of Malmstrom, which would have been the 10th Missile Squadron or the 490th Missile Squadron. I was told that sometime during the years prior to 1995, a couple of Security Policemen were at a launch facility when some sort of triangular craft started hovering above them. I don't have any information on how long the encounter lasted or what the fallout was.

Lingo may have been referring to an incident at Alpha Flight, as described to me in 2003 by former Security Policeman Joseph M. Brown. One spring night in 1992, his two-man team, and a second team located a few miles away, observed a bright object erratically racing around the sky for several minutes. At some point, the men became unnerved by what they were seeing and began anxiously discussing the sighting with each other over the radio, whereupon the Alpha Flight Security Controller, who had been listening-in on the tense exchange, broke into the conversation and asked about the situation.

Finally, the aerial object instantly stopped in mid-air and remained stationary. As the sun rose, the craft’s triangular shape could be seen through binoculars. Then it disappeared. When the two teams returned to base, they were debriefed by their commander and pointedly told that any further mention of the UFO would jeopardize their PRP status. This incident is covered at length in my book. [ad]

Lingo said that after leaving the Air Force he had consulted the state-by-state UAP-sighting database at The National UFO Reporting Center website, to learn whether any sighting report in Montana in 1995 might have matched his own.

He told me, “On 9/25/1995 there were two sightings in the towns of Ronan and Polson. One of them states that there were red and blue strobing lights observed. The other just says that the witness saw lights. Both reports stated that the objects were in the eastern sky. Both towns are many miles west of Choteau, at roughly the same latitude, just on the opposite side of the Rocky Mountains. I had been just west of Choteau myself, so what those witnesses reported could have been what I saw. I’ve often wondered whether those sightings related to my incident.”

“All of a sudden, this thing was 90 to 100 feet away from us and it lit up,” Curt says. “There were seven lights, all eight foot in diameter. Poof, poof, poof. … All seven lights came on. It was probably 90 feet wide, 20 feet high. It didn’t give off no light on the outside of whatever it was. All the light was inside.”

Curt and his son were stunned in the pickup. The object, he says, was not moving.

“It was sitting on the ground, 100 feet from the road,” Curt says. “All the big lights came on, all seven of them, and when they all came on, this thing started going straight up. Real slow. It went up 10 or 20 feet and went across my hayfield. We started chasing it with the pickup, but all of a sudden it took off and got ahead of us and we lost track of it.”

“They told me about strange lights in the sky,” Robert says. “I thought they were pulling my leg.”

About 10 minutes later the phone rang again.

“This time he was clearly frightened, extremely frightened,” Robert says. “He was looking right at the thing, a glowing red object, oval-shaped and some 40 feet in diameter, and it was hovering above the front gate.”

UFO Now Believed to be H2O

CLANCY — What at one time was believed to be a UFO has turned out to likely be H2O, a Clancy resident says.

On Nov. 4, motion detector cameras set up on the back upstairs balcony of Dr. Richard O’Connor’s home captured photos of what he believed was a UFO. They were among 280,000 photos his cameras have taken over two years.
By Phil Drake

O’Connor, who is interested in UFOs and said he had set up the cameras in the hope of capturing something flying by, tried to have the photos analyzed and got various opinions, ranging from some saying that the photo had not been manipulated to others saying it had.

After dozens of emails from all over the country, O’Connor ran experiments on suggestions that the photo may be of a falling water drop. He said he used a turkey baster and dropped water so that the cameras could take some pictures.

“I am now convinced beyond a shadow of doubt that the Nov .4 photo ... was, in fact, simply and only a couple of falling raindrops fortuitously (or not) captured by the Reconyx camera,” [...]

CLANCY— For nearly two years Dr. Richard O’Connor has kept two cameras pointed at the sky with the deep hope and belief that something might be out there.

And then, after nearly 280,000 photos captured by motion detection, it happened.

Or maybe not.

But O’Connor’s findings of what he believes are two unidentified flying objects has set off a barrage of email exchanges, some of them angry, in the community of UFO fans and experts.

About noon on Nov. 4, his cameras captured five photos of something flying through the skies of Montana that is hard for some to explain. [...]

UFO Streaking Above Polson Remains a Mystery

UFO Streaking Above Polson Remains a Mystery

. . . However, that night I experienced my first UFO sighting. It appeared to be too low and too fast for a satellite. Others witnessing the fast-traveling light were my wife as she looked out the kitchen window, a couple of our youngsters and some neighborhood kids playing in the backyard.

The pulsating white light came out of the northwest, and traveled in a straight line to the southeast. It crossed the horizon in less than a minute and made no sound. It seemed to be spinning and had a circular shape.

I had been taking pictures of the kids earlier in the evening and still had the camera with me in the yard. I snapped a picture, but it was a shapeless blurred blob because of slow shutter speed. The picture was taken at a setting of 1/25th of a second with a 5.6 lens opening, using Tri-X film, 120 size, in a Minolta Autocord camera.

What did we see? I don’t know. Haven’t seen anything like it since, but I’m less skeptical when I hear reports of UFOs now. . . .

UFOs Spotted at Nuclear bases and Missile Sites | UFO CHRONICLE – 1977

UFOs Spotted at Nuclear bases and Missile Sites - www.theufochronicles.com

"Mysterious UFOs flew near or hovered over nuclear bomb storage areas of two Strategic Air Command (SAC) bases and near at least 10 missile sites during a three-week period in 1975 ..."

Several times the Air Force scrambled jet fighters and helicopters to chase down the UFOs but failed to intercept them.

hovering over a SAC base, but the men aboard said they couldn't see the intruder object – even though men on the ground could see both craft.

In several instances the mysterious UFOs were first reported to be helicopters, but an Air Force spokesman admitted: "The overflights were not identified as helicopters. Unsuccessful attempts were made to trace the craft."

The Enquirer uncovered these UFO sightings by digging through official Air Force documents available under the Freedom of Information Act.

On October 27, 28 and 31, 1975, a UFO invaded the security of Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, Maine, hovering over the weapons storage area.

The first night the UFO was seen visually for 35 minutes and tracked on radar for 40 minutes more. The next night the object hovered only 150 feet over the weapons storage area. A helicopter was sent up and flew within 1,000 ft. of the UFO – but the crew could not see it.

Montana UFOs and Extraterrestrials

If the X-Files were real, Mulder and Scully would frequent the Treasure State. Although most people imagine Roswell, Area 51 and a certain claw machine in Toy Story whenever little green men come up in conversation, Montana has certainly earned its place in extraterrestrial culture.

Montana’s history with aliens dates back well into the ‘40s. Great Falls is home to one of the most revered UFO videos ever shot, while crop circles and contact experiences have frequented the state through the last decade.

Author Joan Bird said that with all the evidence she’s put together in her new book, Montana might just be one of the most authentic locations for extraterrestrial activity in the world.

“I feel like I’m lifting a lid,” Bird said, “to make it comfortable and safe for these people to come out and talk about their experiences.”

Her book, “Montana UFOs and Extraterrestrials” details the history of some of the best unexplained happenings in the Big Sky. Bird presented a lecture to a packed conference room during last week’s Festival of the Book, sharing her findings and ruminations on humanity’s place in the universe. Bird has a doctorate in zoology from the University of Montana, but was drawn to UFOs after a rash of unexplainable crop circles appeared in the Flathead Valley in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s. . . .

Montana UFOs and Extraterrestrials

Before my wife and I were married, we were driving back to Nacogdoches, Texas, after a picnic at Oil Springs late one afternoon when we saw a distant object slowly ascend into the sky, the way a weather balloon might. Then it did something no weather balloon has ever done: It came to dead stop, then took off like a jet airplane, disappearing into the distance.

UFO? Well, it certainly appeared to be an object. It was flying. And it was unidentified, at least by us.

But was there anything more to it than the bright confusion of a late afternoon, compounded by youth and susceptibility? Such unanswerable questions lie at the heart of “Montana UFOs and Extraterrestrials,” a new book by Joan Bird that takes a detailed look at reports of space aliens and flying objects in the Montana area.

Ms. Bird, who has worked as a conservation biologist and earned a doctorate in zoology and animal behavior, falls squarely into the camp of those who believe that odd occurrences in Montana skies may be attributable to visitors from other planets. Moreover, she finds the federal government perfectly capable of doing its best to hide evidence that she is right. . . .

'Montana UFOs': Helena Author Traces History of Sights in State

Helena author Joan Bird has a Ph.D. in zoology, and her career has been dedicated to the natural world, including work for the Montana Environmental Information Center, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, and the Nature Conservancy.

In her new book, she makes her case for the existence of phenomena born far from the Treasure State’s terra firma: extraterrestrial lifeforms.

Bird writes in the introduction to “Montana UFOs and Extraterrestrials” that, although she’s a scientist, she is comfortable with the notion that there are some things science just can’t explain. She’s also had a lifelong fascination with bits of information that don’t seem to belong. “Unidentified flying objects,” or UFOs, certainly fall into that category.

That attitude led Bird to a field known among its practitioners as “ufology,” and ultimately to the writing of “Montana UFOs.”

Montana, it turns out, has been the scene of some of the most significant unexplained occurrences involving UFOs, dating back more than 70 years. Two in particular, a 15-second, color film shot by Nick Mariana in Great Falls on Aug. 15, 1950, showing two silvery spheres in flight; and an incident in 1967 in which 10 Minuteman missiles were deactivated in their silos while a UFO hovered overhead, are considered of primary significance. . . .

Missile Leak Closes Roads in Montana 11-14-12

By Frank Warren
The UFO Chronicles
11-23-12

GRASS RANGE, MT—On Wednesday, November 14th, news reports were coming out of Montana warning of a “potential” gas leak from a nuclear launch facility; accordingly, Malmstrom Air Force and Fergus County authorities shut down part of Montana Highway 19 to its junction with U.S. 191.

Malmstrom's Public Affairs Office by way of a “Lt. Chase McFarland” would only admit to abnormal readings which indicated a gas leak at one of the launch sites and all actions taken were merely precautionary.

Missile Map with LFs Indicated
Montana of course is littered with active Minuteman Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBM); the consensus of the news reports indicates the (potential) leak occurred at one of the LF’s a few miles north of Grass Range. The first of these off of highway 19 would be part of “November Flight” (LF 3), and further north is “Oscar Flight” (LF’s 6 and 5 respectively).

Coincidently, that general area has seen a very recent rash of UFO sightings; moreover, Oscar Flight in particular is cemented into UFO history when 10 missiles went offline (1967) while UFOs were being reported topside. A similar incident occurred a week apart at “Echo Flight” (north of Oscar); documents uncovered via FOIA requests verified that the Air Force did investigate the latter and relegated the notion of UFO reports as “disproved rumors” and attributed the cause of the missile shutdowns to conventional cause or malfunction. The “Official Report” is in stark contrast to the accounts of former Air Force personnel who have come forward, as well as documentary evidence and news reports of the time.

Within 24 hours of the current incident, the highway was reopened and Malmstrom AFB would issue the following press release:

“While preparing to conduct maintenance in a Minuteman III Launch Facility (LF) northeast of Lewistown Wed. afternoon, Malmstrom AFB personnel detected abnormal readings indicating a potential chemical leak from the missile. Subsequent testing verified that no such leak had occurred, and that the launch facility and the missile itself were safe.

Col H.B Brual, 341st Missile Wing commander stated, ‘Public safety is a top priority, and therefore base and local officials ensured the right resources and expertise were brought to bear in resolving the situation.’"

Additionally, that press release embedded in local news reports was accompanied with the declaration (by Malmstrom AFB) that there was, “no leak, injuries or illness”; painting the entire episode as a “false alarm.”

This brings us to one report in particular, which aired on the evening of November 14th, via Q2 News (KTVQ); co-hosts Jeanelle Slade & Jay Kohn reported that George Markusa, a Q2 viewer “learned from local officials that 4 employees [Air Force Personnel] became sick while working at the [Missile Launch] facility.”

What happened to these 4 airmen? Who were the “local officials” that made the statements? Why was there no follow-up to this report?

Finally, if these 4 airmen and or officers did become ill as reported by Mr. Markusa—what does that say for Malmstrom’s official press release? Keeping the Air Force’s posture and previous public statements and or reports released to the public concerning nuclear missiles in mind, there seems to be a “pattern of behavior” here . . ..
