UFOs and Nukes By Robert Hastings

By The UFO Chronicles
7-21-09

Robert Hastings     Noted UFO researcher, lecturer and author Robert Hastings will make his second appearance on Coast-to-Coast AM on July 26, 2009. Hastings will discuss important declassified U.S. government documents which confirm a decades-long UFO-Nukes Connection that began with some 150 reports of UFO activity at the Los Alamos atomic weapons laboratory as early as December 1948. According to one FBI document, dated January 31, 1949, these incidents were “considered top secret by Intelligence Officers of both the army and the air forces.”

On July 16, 1945, Los Alamos secretly tested the first atomic bomb in the desert near Alamogordo; bombs two and three were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan on August 6th and 9th respectively, thus ending World War II and ushering in the Nuclear Age. Not long thereafter, according to the declassified documents, someone piloting “flying discs” or “flying saucers” began to monitor America’s atomic and thermonuclear weapons program on an ongoing basis.

Information uncovered by Hastings and other researchers reveals that intermittent UFO surveillance of Los Alamos, and other nuclear weapons-related sites, continued throughout and the Cold War era and beyond, occurring as recently as 2006. One Air Force document declassified in 1977 reveals that several UFOs maneuvered near Minuteman nuclear missile sites outside of Malmstrom AFB, Montana, in November 1975. Some of those objects, which alternately hovered and flew around at high velocity, were also tracked on radar and chased, unsuccessfully, by jet fighters. One UFO was reported by missile security personnel to have an “orange white disc” appearance.

These dramatic incidents occurred some six years after the Air Force closed down Project Blue Book—its supposedly definitive UFO investigation—claiming that it had terminated the project because there was no evidence that UFOs posed a threat to national security. However, another now-declassified USAF document states that “Reports of unidentified flying objects which affect national security...are not a part of the Blue Book system.” Of course, the American public was never officially informed of this fact, which only became known after the document’s release years later. Researchers now have evidence that national security-related UFO incidents, including the missile base cases, were actually investigated by the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (OSI) and various counter-intelligence groups.

Hastings will also present stunning testimony from a few of the 100-plus former or retired U.S. Air Force personnel he has interviewed, who were involved in one or more of UFO incidents at nuclear missile sites over the years. According to those sources—which include missile launch officers, targeting officers, and maintenance personnel—missiles malfunctioned on a number of occasions, at different bases during the 1960s and ‘70s, just as UFOs were sighted hovering above their underground silos, or above their launch control facilities.

In other words, if nuclear war with the Soviet Union had erupted during any of those incidents, the affected missiles—which displayed what the Air Force refers to as a “Guidance and Control NO-GO” error—would have sat useless in their silos.

Even more shocking than those cases is the incident reported by former Minuteman missile launch officer David H. Schuur, who was stationed at Minot AFB, North Dakota, in the mid-1960s. According to Schuur, late one night, a UFO actually activated most of the ten missiles he controlled. At the time, he was in the underground Echo Flight Launch Control Capsule, receiving frantic calls from missile security guards topside, who were reporting an extremely bright object in the sky which rapidly moved from missile to missile, briefly hovering over each one. As the UFO lingered, that particular missile’s “Launch in Progress” button suddenly lit up on the control panel in the capsule. Schuur states that he had to quickly press an "Inhibit" circuit button to override the launch command apparently being sent to each missile by the UFO.

Schuur told Hastings that he does not know whether the missiles would have actually launched, had he not disrupted their countdown sequence, because several other “spurious indicators” had simultaneously appeared on his missile-readiness display panel. Significantly, a nearly identical incident occurred in Soviet Ukraine, on October 4, 1982, according to two retired Soviet Army officers interviewed by ABC News in 1994. The reporter, David Ensor, later worked at CNN as the network’s Chief National Security Correspondent.

Hastings has researched the UFO-Nukes Connection since 1973 and has been invited to speak about his findings at over 500 U.S. colleges and universities since 1981. He has just returned from two international lectures, in Stockholm Sweden and Curitiba, Brazil. His book, UFO and Nukes: Extraordinary Encounters at Nuclear Weapons Sites, is available ONLY at www.ufohastings.com

MY UFO EXPERIENCE:
"I Thought, Wow, That Must Be a Planet . . . But Then It Moved!"

UFO Over Albuquerque 7-14-09
Reader Submitted Report
[Unedited]
7-16-09

It was around 10:00 mountain time, on July 14, when I heard my dog howling outside, I thought, "Aww, how cute," so I turned my bedroom light off and looked out my window to see if I could see him howling, I couldn't, though; the moon hadn't come out yet. I looked up to the sky to see if the clouds that were covering the stars around 9:00 were still there; just a few remained, as I scanned the ridge to the east of my home I saw the brightest light in the sky that I've ever seen before. I thought, "Wow, that must be a planet!" but then, it moved. I was astounded, this was my first ever sighting of a UFO. I continued to watch it for 2 to 3 1/2 hours.

I live in a small neighborhood east of Albuquerque and so there isn't any light pollution where I live. It had four lights, they looked similar to a fluorescent light in color, but one of the lights was slightly darker than the rest, I assumed it to be the back of the vehicle by the way the UFO moved.

When a car would drive through the neighborhood a bright light on the UFO would follow it, it was like watching an eye of something, but it was a light coming from the UFO. I also noticed this light lead the UFO, I mean, if it traveled to the left the light would be pointing left as it moved, if it moved diagonally to the right and up the light would point that way.

Well, when it was starting to go out of view, I didn't want it to leave, so I flashed my cell phone light at it, the seeing light pointed in my direction then it started to move north west in my direction, I lost sight of it over the roof, and seeing how it was 1:00 or 2:00 am I fell asleep as soon as I couldn't see it anymore.

Dr. Salla,

Classic! Precisely what I would expect from you. The Cronkite story was discredited years ago. Bill Knell?! You are actually citing Bill Knell as a credible source of information?! Why don't you do your homework before you publish or blurt out this kind of nonsense.

As I told you once before, my well-grounded research on the UFO-Nukes Connection can only be harmed by your mentioning it in your incompetently-researched articles. In my view, your public utterances have set back legitimate UFO research by decades.

Ever hear of Richard Hall? He died yesterday. You and your ilk would benefit from reading what credible persons--research giants such as Hall--have published over the years. IMHO, the corrosive effect of your influence is every bit as damaging to the UFO-disclosure process as the disingenuous UFO-debunking articles regularly offered-up by CSICOP/CSI.

I cringe every time I hear someone associate my work with what you publish. Please don't do me any more favors.

A Tribute to Richard H. Hall
(Dec 25, 1930 - July 17, 2009)

Dick Hall

By Larry W. Bryant
ufoview.posterous.com

Larry W. Bryant     A phone call to me this afternoon (July 17, 2009) from UFO researcher Dan Pinchas of Germantown, Md., brought news of the death of one of
ufology's giants: Richard H. Hall, 78, of Brentwood, Md.

For at least a year, I'd known that Dick had been recovering from colon-cancer surgery, but he counseled me not to spread that knowledge. By e-mail several months ago, he'd told me he was doing okay. Now, I learn that he'd been undergoing chemotherapy. He apparently died in his sleep this morning.

Seemingly right up to his last moments, Dick was pursuing his ufological calling, for it's been only several weeks since my receipt of the latest issue of his bi-monthly newsletter Journal of UFO History.

My association and friendship with this consummate scholar date back to November 1957, when I met him for the first time at the Washington, D. C., headquarters of the now-defunct National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP). There, as I sauntered into the front office, I spied him with his head down and
eyes focused on a piece of correspondence he intently was typing upon a manual typewriter.

Eventually, Dick became a role model for my own baby steps as a UFO researcher-activist. He not only wrote well and fluently; he also had a keen hand at line drawing. Noted mostly for his seminal two-volume work The UFO Evidence, he also had edited the NICAP newsletter (The UFO Investigator) and some of the organization's special reports. His two books on the subject matter (The Challenge of Unidentified Flying Objects (with Prof. Charles A. Maney - 1961); and Uninvited Guests (1988)) remain collector's items.

His other major contributions to the field derived from his service on the board of directors for the Fund for UFO Research, Inc. At separate periods, he also served as editor of the monthly journal of the Mutual UFO Network, Inc., and as a columnist for the monthly newsstand periodical UFO Magazine. (See my essay about his career at this blog's Item 3.2.)

Besides his UFOlit products, Dick managed to publish a small handbook on raising house plants, plus an overview of the role of women in America's civil war.

Dick Hall's commitment to serious UFO research and his high standard of personal achievement in the field began during his student days at Tulane University, where he majored in philosophy. I take delight in possessing copies of his self-published newsletter from that early period - the UFO Critical Bulletin. Critical thinking (and action), you see, became the hallmark of his scholarship. If anyone deserved
an honorary doctorate in ufology, it certainly was he.

I never could've asked for a better mentor, friend, and colleague in this field. Thank you, again, Sir Richard, for the enriching part you played in this long journey of inquiry, networking, and enlightenment.

Note: At this writing, Dick's blog remains accessible at

Veteran Ufologist Richard Hall Succumbs To Cancer!

Dick Hall
By Frank Warren
© 7-17-09

It is with great sadness today that I report the passing of one of Ufology’s icons; Richard (Dick) Hall succumbed to Cancer this morning, he was 78 years old.

Dick was born on December 25, 1930, in Hartford, Connecticut; in 1949, realizing that war was forthcoming, he spent two years with the newly borne Air Force, followed by six years in the Air Force Reserve.

After his service he took odd jobs and moved around a bit, until landing at Tulane University, (New Orleans) in 1954. He initially majored in mathematics and then switched to philosophy.

The hub-bub about Flying Saucers in the early 50's got Dick's attention, and he joined the then recently formed NICAP organization. He would become life long friends with its Director, and another UFO icon, Donald E. Keyhoe.

In 1993 through 1998 Dick would serve as Chairman of the Fund for UFO Research; he was prolific writer, who authored a few books, some which are considered hallmarks to Ufological research, e.g., UFO Evidence, The UFO Evidence, Volume II: A Thirty-year Report, Uninvited Guests with his latest endeavor being The Journal of UFO History, a monthly periodical detailing the annals of Ufology.

I can say with great authority that many of us held Dick Hall in the highest esteem; his shoes cannot be filled, however, his life's contribution to Ufology will be a permanent record, a fitting legacy for us all.

UFO Study Group Presents Award to Longtime Researcher

John P. Timmerman
By Tyrel Linkhorn

LIMA — After spending more than six decades researching UFOs, John P. Timmerman has developed a reputation in the field as the one of the premier UFO researchers.

“He knows everything there is to know. If you want to know anything about UFOs, John’s the one to ask,” said Mike Krick, president of the Lima Area UFO Research Associates.

Describing him as “a true gentleman, ufologist, and all-around good guy,” the group honored Timmerman on Wednesday evening with several awards for his life’s work.

Tom Bowman, the group’s secretary, read letters from the area and beyond, including one from Lima Mayor David Berger.

“I’m overwhelmed. That’s the only word I can think of,” Timmerman said. “It gives me a kind of a thank you for everything I was trying to do.”

Timmerman, 85, began studying UFOs in 1947, going on to serve as an investigator and treasurer for The Center for UFO Studies in Chicago. He built a traveling display of UFO information that was presented all over the United States and as far away as China and Japan. The exhibit is now in the UFO Museum in Roswell, N.M.

“I’m hoping to retire from more physical correspondence activities for the UFO phenomenon because there are so many others in the world who are trying to squeeze out the truth.”

But the longtime researcher seems unlikely to ever stop helping people look for answers.

“It’s something that they’re all welcome to ask about if they wish to do so,” he said.

Timmerman suspects that governments around the world continue working to hide evidence of UFOs, and that it’s possible that all U.S. presidents since the 1940s have also been kept in the dark.

“I don’t know how they’re going to get out of this but they’ll have to one of these days,” he said. “The world is going to have to know. And we’re not talking about just English, French, German, Italian. We’re talking about the planet, because we have to have a good plan for the planet.”

He and Krick both acknowledge that not everyone believes, but both said people should look at the facts.

“If people don’t believe, you can talk till you’re blue in the face and they’re not going to believe it until they see it.”

Famous LIFE Photographers' Roswell Crash Revelation

Allan Grant & Life Magazine Theme
By Anthony Bragalia
The UFO Iconoclast(s)

Famed Life magazine photographer Allan Grant may have provided to us his greatest "picture" just before he died. The cameraman's portrait of the Roswell crash in 1947 illustrates that the event that summer was of urgent importance to the military. It also shows that the skyfallen object was in fact of a genuine "unknown."

With his passing last year, Allan Grant has been rightly elevated to legendary status in the world of journalistic photography. For decades Mr. Grant was a permanent member of the prestigious Life photographic staff. He captured on film some of the most recognizable images in history. Grant's legacy includes such memorable work as the first-ever public picture of Lee Harvey Oswald's wife Marina (taken after Lee's capture) to the haunting, last-ever picture of Marilyn Monroe. His work's "movie still" clarity, his many Life cover shots and his photographic studies were a gift left to all of us.

But Allan's best chronicle was left before he died- and surpasses any captured image of a politician or an entertainer that he ever took. His greatest gift to history was his revelation that he was involved in the Roswell saga- and his confirmation that what crashed in New Mexico those many years ago was not of a balloon or a secret aircraft experiment, but of an Unidentified Flying Object!

In 1997, Mr. Grant had written a very brief Letter to the Editor of the Los Angeles Times. Allan was upset after having read in the LA Times of the second Roswell "debunking" report issued by the USAF that year. In the letter he was somewhat cryptic- but adamant that he knew that Roswell was not what the Air Force was reporting as a balloon project. He explained that he had a personal experience fifty years prior that had left a life-long impression on him. It also left no doubt in his mind whatsoever that something "very significant" had happened.

In online researching archived newspapers this author became aware of Grant's Letter to the Editor only last year, in 2008. Hoping that Mr. Grant was still alive and able to relate more, I tracked him down and emailed him.

Unfortunately Mr. Grant was very ill. As it turned out, Allan only lived for three more months after we began corresponding, passing at age 88. His wife Karin (also a Life magazine employee for many years) helped to facilitate these communications and she also replied with her own assessments about the Roswell event as she was "Mrs. Grant" back in 1947.

In early July of 1947 Allan stated that he had received an urgent call from his Life Editor in New York- "You have to get to Roswell, NM, and fast!"

All Allan was told at the time was that a very large "meteor" had apparently crashed "outside the Roswell area" and that the Army Air Force was attempting to recover the crashed object. Mr. Grant (and Mrs. Grant) maintained that the relationship between the US military and Life magazine at the time was "very strong and deeper than people will ever know."

In fact, Allan Grant said that the Army Air Force had informed his Editor that they would even provide an officer pilot from the Air Force who would personally fly Allan out there and put him in the vicinity of the crash to visually document the "meteor" event.

From Los Angeles, Grant was flown to Albuquerque, NM. Once there he was greeted by a US Army Air Force pilot officer named Major Charles Phillips. Grant stated that they both then boarded a "military training plane" (a single engine trainer) and departed. They later landed on a makeshift runway- a dirt landing strip. When they alighted the plane, Grant was handed a loaded semi-automatic pistol by Major Phillips. Disturbed, Allan asked of the Major "what the hell do I need that for?" Phillips replied that his orders were to see that Grant was armed with a weapon. When Grant asked of Phillips "Against what?" Phillips replied "we don't know!"

Allan Grant shown with Major Phillips
Something seemed very strange about all of this to Grant. They then got into a jeep and began driving, seemingly on a "wild goose chase." But they never located a thing! No meteor, nothing. Allan could not understand why they could not find it, and the Major was oddly being of little help in trying to understand why this was so.

But we learn from Allan's widow Karin Grant that there was a reason for this strange scenario having played out in the desert those many years ago. She and her husband discussed his strange flight to New Mexico for many years after. Both had agreed that there were one of three reasons why Allan was taken out there-

1) Allan said, "Of course we never found the big "meteor' and I wonder whether or not we had arrived too early or too late."

2) He also thought that "perhaps we landed in the wrong place."

3) Ultimately though, the Grants decided that the best explanation was that "the government knew all along that there was something more than a meteor that had crashed- and what better way to deal with it than to "invite" the prestigious Life magazine to come take a look."

Grant's widow continues, "You take them someplace near -but not exactly to- the spot. Show the world there's nothing there- and everybody is happy and relieved, and you can go about your business." She believes that "perhaps they thought you could keep other media out of there if need be by saying that Life has already been there, and they found nothing." And she was right- no mainstream media reported on the event after the first wire stories based on military press releases.

Before Allan died, he told Karin that he always believed that he was "used" by the military as a "potential cover" to in some way obfuscate something. He told her that the "something" what he had always thought -even at the time- was much bigger- an unidentified flying object.

So incensed was Allan about the event -and the Air Force's 1990's reports that explained away the crash as that of a balloon crash and dummy drop- that he felt compelled to write to the LA Times. It was after he read the Air Force Roswell reports that he knew they were lying. It was then that he got the sinking, knowing feeling that Roswell was real. It was a UFO that had crashed to the desert floor decades ago.

This author decided to see if there ever was a "Major Charles Phillips" as alluded to by Grant. If so, what things was this Major associated with during his years of service in the Air Force? The answer was found in reviewing the records of the now-defunct civilian UFO organization NICAP.

Incredibly, Major Phillips -just one month after the Roswell crash- would become one of the US Air Force's first official UFO researchers! Phillips teamed with famed astronomer Dr. Lincoln LaPaz from the University of New Mexico. Together they would lead what they termed "ground survey teams" to investigate the mysterious -and still unexplained- "Green Fireball" sightings that plagued New Mexico for the next several years!

James Fox Aims
for a 'Fahrenheit 9/11'

I Know What I Saw
By Billy Cox
De Void
7-9-09

Billy Cox     It’s hard to imagine a staged UFO event that didn’t invite at least some measure of ridicule from the mainstream media. But that’s what happened on Nov. 12, 2007, at the National Press Club in Washington. Skeptics who came looking for lunatics to slam either a) played it straight, or b) filed nothing at all.

National Press Club UFO PanelThat’s because the 14 panelists who came from as far away as Iran and Chile were professional pilots – civilian and military, including two generals and a colonel – former government officials, and/or scientists with immaculate resumes. All testified to the elusive but intimidating nature of what appear to be physics-warping technologies plying our atmosphere at will and rendering worldwide air defense systems obsolete.

The panel -- http://www.freedomofinfo.org/national_press.htm -- adjourned with a statement requesting either the U.S. Air Force, or NASA, instigate a new scientific study of UFOs for flight safety and security reasons. Brainstormed by documentary filmmaker James Fox with the help of journalist Leslie Kean’s Coalition for the Freedom of Information, the event rated poker-faced coverage from Reuters to Xinhua, from CNN to Pravda. Because these guys were bullet-proof. And there were no distracting little green men visuals or paranoid rants from omniscient moonbats.

“Because as soon as you start talking about anal probes or babies in incubators,” says Fox from San Francisco, “you’ve lost ‘em.”

Never mind that the MSM didn’t bother to follow these rich leads with independent inquiry. It’s an unfortunate congenital incapacity for which Fox has no remedy. However, after producing “UFOs: 50 Years of Denial?” for the Discovery Channel in 1998, and a related “Out of the Blue” five years later, Fox mapped out his National Press Club strategy from the moment he decided to bring the panelists together. He wanted to galvanize support for Congressional hearings on UFOs the way Michael Moore rallied the antiwar movement with “Fahrenheit 9/11.”

“On a massive scale, the majority of Americans suspect the government isn’t being entirely honest when it comes to what it knows about UFOs,” he says, referencing a 2002 Roper Poll (http://www.freedomofinfo.org/poll/roper04.html). “On the other hand, we can’t be screaming from the hilltops that ET is here unless we can prove it. And I’m not entirely sure we can prove that yet. But it does appear that we’ve discounted the terrestrial possibilities.”

So Fox’s latest doc – “I Know What I Saw” – builds on his earlier work by exploring the troubling issues raised at the 11/12/07 press conference. But the crucial twist here is distribution. Having put a video trailer online, Fox is negotiating for a big-screen theatrical release this time around. Because he’s certain of this much: “There will be no congressional hearings without constituent support for them. And I’ve screened this film for people who knew nothing about UFOs and said they were blown away by what they learned.”

As for ongoing public efforts aimed at lobbying the Obama administration and the White House Correspondents Association to start discussing this stuff, Fox is cautious. “I have to be very conservative with what I say. The UFO community is somewhat competitive and somewhat compartmentalized, and it’s unfortunate,” he says. “I truly respect all the work that everyone out there has been doing. But in terms of getting groups like (the White House press corps) talking, I don’t think we’re there yet.”

Fox concedes the possibility that the MSM may never get it. “Honestly, I don’t know what it’d take,” he says. “Maybe a massive sighting or somebody like Neil Armstrong coming forward could trigger a movement. But I haven’t figured that one out.”
