Pressuring the Government to Disclose Extraterrestrial Activity
Based in the nation’s capitol, Stephen Bassett is a lobbyist working tirelessly for a single, unusual cause: confronting the US Government on the existence of extraterrestrials and their presence here on Earth.
As a political activist and executive director of the Paradigm Research Group (PRG), Basset aims to end the 68-year embargo of classified information relating to alien activity while pressuring President Obama and the Executive Branch to disclose these findings to the public.
Following the statements made to me by Apollo 14 Astronaut Edgar Mitchell on government cover ups and claims of nuclear weapons tampering by extraterrestrials, I was contacted by an associate of Stephen Bassett who expressed gratitude on his behalf for covering those stories.
Seeing an opportunity to dig deeper into these claims, I decided to interview this unique D.C. lobbyist about his beliefs and mission.
Why did you decide to take up this fight and how did you get started?
I made an intellectual decision to engage the extraterrestrial phenomenon field in the winter of 1995 because I believed I could make a difference. My journey began in January of 1996 as a volunteer for the Program for Extraordinary Experience Research founded by Dr. John E. Mack in Cambridge, Massachusetts. While in Cambridge it became clear to me that the extraterrestrial issue could only be resolved by political means. [...]

Extraterrestrial Phenomena Political Action Committee is Focus of Capitol Hill Newspaper
Stephen Bassett, executive director of Paradigm Research Group and founder of the Extraterrestrial Phenomena Political Action Committee (X-PPAC), has devoted the past 18 years to overcoming the “truth embargo” about government involvement in alien affairs.
He’s now ready for Congress to officially weigh in.
. . . Bassett laid the groundwork for his latest congressional outreach a few years back, hosting a 30-plus-hour mock hearing (spanning five days) at the National Press Club in 2013. He had copies of the recorded sessions of the Citizen Hearing on Disclosure delivered to every Capitol Hill office — a bundle containing 10 DVDs, a letter signed by the participating witnesses and a request to meet with Bassett — immediately following the midterm elections. . . .

"What, Realistically, Do You Hope To Accomplish?" | WHITE HOUSE UFO PETITION

Talk about snakebit. The very day UFO activist Steve Bassett launches his latest petition to enlist White House support for UFO hearings on The Hill — boom — religious degenerates in France monopolize the headlines by slaughtering irreverent free thinkers. Not to suggest in any way that Bassett’s designs on dragging The Great Taboo into the sunlight was in any danger of getting MSM attention in the first place; after all, this is his seventh pass at it. Still. Given the patterns, it kinda makes you wonder about the mysterious ways in which the universe rewards this species of tenacity.
Let's go back a dozen years or so. As founder of the nation's only registered lobby dedicated to wresting the "UFO truth embargo" from government shadows, Bassett decides to run as an independent in Maryland’s 8th Congressional District. If elected, the director of the Extraterrestrial Phenomena Political Action Committee will raise hell under the Dome to declassify federal UFO secrets. But in October, with the 2002 campaign rounding the home stretch, a couple of psycho car-trunk snipers turn the D.C. 'burbs into a shooting gallery. Voters are thinking more about exit routes and body armor than ET. Bassett gets maybe one percent of the vote.
In the ensuing years, he will hit if from other angles. At the beginning of the Obama administration, for instance, he urged kindred spirits to swamp the White House press corps with letters, emails, phone calls, etc., urging them to ask the new regime pointed UFO questions. He called that one the Million Fax on Washington.
He also staged a series of Washington-area "X-Conference" seminars in hopes of exposing the Beltway media to a range of perspectives on The Great Taboo. In 2007, Washington Post political columnist Dana Milbank shows up. Amid such a target-rich environment, Milbank naturally takes the freak-show angle, and furnishes an opening quote from a crackpot who says, "The truth amnesty project is reportedly recommended by the participating extraterrestrials themselves." The media momentum never materializes; financial woes follow. Yet, in 2013, thanks to a million-dollar wad dropped on the thing by Canadian philanthropist Tom Clearwater, Bassett rolls his biggest wager to date. He stages what he calls the Citizen Hearing on Disclosure. He pays half a dozen retired congresspersons, including a former senator, $20k apiece to preside over a week-long series of testimonials from UFO witnesses of wildly divergent pedigree and persuasions. It will be conducted with the formality of real hearings. Afterwards, Bassett will produce and forward DVDs to every member of Congress.
“We’ll create so much public interest, a lot of the editors are gonna say, Christ almighty, enough is enough, that’s it, let’s get some answers from these guys,” Bassett says before the big show at the National Press Club in Washington. “And if they ask the right questions, I predict the truth embargo will be over within 60 days."
Dot dot dot ...
But wait -- just before that, in 2011, in a hideously tantalizing twist of fate, the White House announces it will officially address whatever grievance Joe Sixpack wants to bring to its attention. Seriously. Team Obama made the initiative sound populist by calling it We The People. And all Joe Sixpack's gotta do is convince 5,000 people to sign an online We The People petition. Five thousand names -- that's nothing.
Almost immediately, the geniuses who dreamed up that paltry threshold know they’ve screwed up when an avalanche of gripes, from the profound to the egregiously insipid, begin clogging the pipes. Within weeks, the We The People architects decide to raise the bar to 25,000 signatures. Still, it's too late to thwart Bassett’s demand that the administration “formally acknowledge an extraterrestrial presence engaging the human race and immediately release into the public domain all files from all agencies and military services relevant to this phenomenon.” The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy responds with rote blurbs on SETI and Kepler and Mars Curiosity Rover, along with this:
“The U.S. government has no evidence that any life exists outside our planet, or that an extraterrestrial presence has contacted or engaged any member of the human race. In addition, there is no credible information to suggest that any evidence is being hidden from the public's eye.”
Six more We The People petitions will follow — e.g., please investigate UFO intrusions over U.S. nuclear missile fields, make official public inquiries into President Clinton’s murky intrigues with the so-called Rockefeller Initiative, etc. But none of those appeals will come close to reaching the 25,000 signature mark. And by 2013, after having to respond to a non-Bassett petition requesting America to build a Death Star as a jobs-creation stimulus, We The People has pretty much had it with Those People and raises the trigger response to 100,000 names. Which means Bassett, in this latest round, will need to gather more than 3,000 names a day by Feb. 6 to provoke the White House into to weighing in on his request for support of congressional UFO hearings. Should the sun rise in the west and he actually reaches six figures, here's De Void's crystal ball on We The People's response: “The executive branch does not set the legislative agenda, but we take your concerns seriously. Therefore, we have forwarded your request to the Hon. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and the Hon. Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) for their thoughtful consideration.”
And finally, there’s this: After three notifications from the Federal Elections Commission that his Extraterrestrial Phenomena Political Action Committee is five months derelict in reporting receipts and disbursements, Bassett now describes his one-man lobby as “in suspension.” And yet. When asked by De Void, "What, realistically, do you hope to accomplish?", Bassett's succinct email reply is stalwart: "Disclosure."
This story has a moral to it. Somewhere. It just has to.
Group Petitions White House Over UFOs [Again]

The group, which for years has been attempting to persuade politicians to reveal what the government knows about UFOs and extraterrestrial visitation, has attempted similar petitions before.

In 2011 a petition posted to the White House's website, which requested that the government "formally acknowledge an extraterrestrial presence engaging the human race," received widespread attention and received more than 12,000 signatures.
The response however was not quite what they were hoping for:
"The U.S. government has no evidence that any life exists outside our planet, or that an extraterrestrial presence has contacted or engaged any member of the human race. In addition, there is no credible information to suggest that any evidence is being hidden from the public’s eye."

Petitions, UFO's & Disclosure
Over here in the U.K. I've been following with interest, the progress of the 'We the people' petitions, regarding E.T. disclosure in the U.S.
I'm an ex ad man, with over 25 years of hands on experience, in marketing & communications. Most of that time was spent, at top London agencies &/or their subsidiaries, at JWT, Saatchis, Publicis & O&M.
I must admit that when I read the wording of the first White House petition, it made me cringe with embarrassment, given that the UFO phenomenon, is now so undeniable & may turn out to be, a very big threat indeed. The wording of the petition smacks of a continuing mistrust in your government & the military. It's plainly targeted at getting the Obama administration to confess to alien contact & admit some kind of conspiracy that quite probably, harps back to the days of Roswell.
Call me simplistic if you like, but it seems to me, that the responsibility of the people today, must be first to get the Obama administration to disclose the current UFO presence & then to focus on any threat, that they may bring.
I can only think the first petition was pitched the way it was, in some forlorn hope & expectation that an admission by the administration, would provide a sensational & entertaining media scenario, from which money could be made from book sales! The fact is, that the content & tone of the Paradigm petition, sounded so much like witchcraft & hocus-pocus, that The White House, has snatched the opportunity
in their response, to finally nail the old 'alien/conspiracy' chestnut, forever! And who can can blame them for it, given they were offered such a glorious opportunity, on a plate! They must have clapped like seals, when they first got sight of the petition.
Whilst all this historic, catharsis effort has been going on, the more important & immediate threat of the UFOs there in our skies today, continues to be overlooked.
I guess from now on, we all need to promote the UFO issue more urgently, in order to meet the immediate challenge. The goalposts for E.T., must surely move, from now on.
To that end, those people who have taken the time to read my recent sighting report in 'The UFO Chronicles', will know why we are getting increasingly concerned, about the growing number of UFO sightings, here in The U.K. They've been intruding into our airspace this summer, buzzing flight paths & busy airport stacking circuits. What's more, they've been doing so, in big numbers. In fact, they seem to have been using my own backyard here in Sussex, like a personal airport, just coming & going, as they please. This is not another conjured illusion, it's actually been happening, right here, on the picturesque, Sussex Weald.
Now, we can all continue the long & nebulous debates about the merits of individual UFO sightings across The World or we can accept that many are true & start putting our heads together to get something done about it! I would certainly vote for the latter. After all, many of us, have the future security of our children & grandchildren, to consider, & I for one, don't intend, to let them down.
Disclosure petitions, are all good & well but involve a lot of time & talking, & so far, they seem to have got us nowhere!
I understand that yet another two E.T. petitions, have now been posted on The White House website & that signatures to each, will now need to reach 25,000, before The White House will be prepared to respond.
It will be interesting to see, if either of them, ever get to reach this increased threshold, within the timescale? The fact that there are now two petitions up there together, may lead to confusion & possible cannibalization, of each others signatures!
The urgent way ahead now, must be for an organization such as MUFON, to canvass the support of congressmen, representatives & the military. UFO's should not be about making book deals, they're about public safety.
If I've read the opinion polls correctly, then I believe that over half the U.S. population, already believe in an E.T. presence. If MUFON were to hire in some top-notch PR professionals, they would then have the means to canvass congressmen & the like, & begin to convert the huge amount of public recognition in E.T. into an open debate about the current UFO presence, & therby, begin to circumvent the current hiatus & reluctance of both The White House & the military, to disclose & discuss the UFO phenomenon. When the issue is firmly on the table, the media will no doubt amplify it's 'noise' considerably & The White House & the military will be placed under increasing pressure, to recognising the mood of the nation & in turn, begin to open up on the whole UFO issue & make it an urgent concern & priority.
My best guess is that the U.S. 'powers that be', are fully aware of the increasing UFO presence in our skies today & they are reviewing it's status, as & when, intelligence comes their way. I also think that they may well have the interests of your nation at heart but don't wish to drive people to panic the & perhaps even more importantly, send the U.S. & worldwide economies, into a meltdown.
The stakes on making UFO intelligence public, are very
high indeed!
Although we do need to 'up the ante', on this one, we also need to tread very carefully, on this delicate issue.

UFO NEWS | Yet Another Petition is Borne: Requests Investigation into Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP)
On Sept 22, two petitions were established by ET/Alien Lobbyist Steve Bassett of The Paradigm Group (PRG) at the newly created “We The People, Your Voice in Our Government” web-page at the White House’s official web-site, they stated the following respectively:
Although, the petitions had little or no impact in regards to their intent, they did create a lot of controversy in the so-called UFO community. Stan Friedman was quick to pen a staunch critique of White House’s official response in his piece entitled, Petition, UFOs, White House and Lies. Shortly thereafter noted journalist/author Leslie Kean chimed in with her sober, sagacious “Way Forward.”
This brings us to the latest petition authored by UFO celebrities Richard M. DOLAN and Bryce ZABEL, it states:
On Dolan & Zabel’s web-site they make clear that there isn’t a conflict with Bassett (who is submitting another petition as well); they write:
Immediately disclose the government's knowledge of and communications with extraterrestrial beings
This Petition calls for the President to disclose to the American people the long withheld knowledge of government interactions with extraterrestrial beings and call for open Congressional hearings to allow the people to become aware of this subject through those whose voices have been silenced by unconstitutional secrecy oaths.

We, the undersigned, strongly urge the President of the United States to formally acknowledge an extraterrestrial presence engaging the human race and immediately release into the public domain all files from all agencies and military services relevant to this phenomenon."
Hundreds of military and government agency witnesses have come forward with testimony confirming this extraterrestrial presence. Opinion polls now indicate more than 50% of the American people believe there is an extraterrestrial presence and more than 80% believe the government is not telling the truth about this phenomenon. The people have a right to know. The people can handle the truth.At that time 5000 signatures was the threshold to incur an official response (now 25,000); both achieved that goal, the latter with over 12,000 signatures. A few weeks later and to no one’s surprise (in my view) the expected response was posted by Phil Larson for space policy and communications at the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy, and it in part read as follows:
“Thank you for signing the petition asking the Obama Administration to acknowledge an extraterrestrial presence here on Earth.From there Larson cited the SETI program, the Keplar spacecraft and the Mars Science Laboratory, Curiosity as examples of the fore mentioned search and or study of the possibility of extraterrestrial life.
The U.S. government has no evidence that any life exists outside our planet, or that an extraterrestrial presence has contacted or engaged any member of the human race. In addition, there is no credible information to suggest that any evidence is being hidden from the public's eye.
However, that doesn't mean the subject of life outside our planet isn't being discussed or explored. In fact, there are a number of projects working toward the goal of understanding if life can or does exist off Earth.”

Investigate Unidentified Aerial Phenomena as Reported by Citizens, Police, Astronauts, Pilots and the Military
Searching for microbes on Mars and radio signals from space is not enough. We must explain Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, or UAP, right here on Earth.
For six decades worldwide, credible witnesses (including Presidents Carter and Reagan) have consistently described objects with flight capabilities beyond our technology. UAP are often verified by radar and even seen at nuclear sites by military officers.
Given the national security implications, the United States should conduct an independent investigation. This inquiry must transparently review the key unsolved UAP reports with access to classified documents. It must have the power to call witnesses and grant immunity.
The findings should be publicly presented.Aside from citing Martian microbes and signals from space in the first sentence, the verbiage: ET’s, extraterrestrials, aliens etc.—were omitted from the appeal.
On Dolan & Zabel’s web-site they make clear that there isn’t a conflict with Bassett (who is submitting another petition as well); they write:
"Our good friend Stephen Bassett has drafted another petition, which he calls 'Disclosure Petition II - Rockefeller Initiative' that is also up on the White House website. We urge you to also read it and consider signing.Although there is no intent of dissension, one can’t help but wonder about the redundancy of “multiple petitions.” At this writing, the latest petition has garnered 165 signatures, with 24,835 to go.
The fact that there are two prominent petitions is not a sign of discord or competition. It's a healthy part of the dialogue. We salute Steve and all the others who are working for Disclosure.
We're all in this together."

Petition Debates Underscore The Divide

Though the OSTP’s Phil Larson needed galoshes for the cloudburst of jeers provoked by his recent “no credible evidence of extraterrestrial presence here on Earth” petition response, Leslie Kean rushed to his defense. The author of UFOs: Generals, Pilots and Government Officials Go On the Record
, Kean staked the credibility of her 2010 New York Times bestseller on working with, and getting endorsements from, sources with unassailable CVs. On the Record challenged “scientists who should no longer be allowed the luxury of denial,” and urged American establishment science to grow a pair and join the rest of the world in conducting public and transparent research. A study with integrity, she argues, could reap a windfall in expanding our understanding of physics.In a Huffington Post blog two weeks ago, Kean hammered not Larson’s response, but the “inappropriate and fundamentally flawed content of the [We The People] petitions themselves.” Kean, whose work was turned into a History Channel documentary last summer, took the petition authors to task for using presumptuous language.
“Clearly,” she stated, “we can’t make the leap from the existence of unknown airborne objects, for which we have proof, to claims of extraterrestrial communications, which can’t be proven, if we want to appeal to scientists.” Noting how the term “UFO” was conspicuously omitted from both petitions, she advocated the establishment of a small but formal government office to take a fresh look at the best cases, and report to “a qualified civilian oversight board.”
Lobbyist Steve Bassett, whose “disclosure” petition collected 12,078 signatures, says “UFO is the language of the information embargo,” and is planning to launch another petition challenge on Thursday. “Leslie Kean wants to continue to play their game,” says Bassett. “She’s calling it ‘a new way forward,’ but I say it’s the old way going backward.”
But abandoning the “We The People” option as a lost cause altogether is retired USAF captain Robert Salas, whose petition collected 5,387 endorsements. Spurred by his active-duty experience in 1967 when a number of nuclear missiles went off-line in their silos during alleged UFO surveillance of a Strategic Air Command facility, Salas is piqued by “the simplistic and dismissive statements” from the OSTP. He thinks Kean is barking up the wrong tree.

UFO NEWS | Paradigm Research Group Initiates 'Disclosure Petition II'
On December 1, 2011 the second Disclosure Petition will be submitted to the White House's We the People initiative. Under the new rules this petition must secure 25,000 signatures within 30 days of its submission (by December 31) in order to receive a formal response from the Obama administration. The first Disclosure Petition received 12,078 signatures. Over the next two weeks PRG will pre-promote Disclosure Petition II to ensure it has the best possible chance to succeed. Also, if on submission it quickly secures thousands of signatures, it will attract immediate media attention.
The response to the first Disclosure Petition was unacceptable and indefensible. Disclosure Petition II is a direct challenge to that response and could generate a substantial media engagement. But it is up to the people to make that happen. Spread the word this petition will go active on the White House website on December 1, 2011.

In response to the first Disclosure Petition, the OSTP stated, "The U.S. government has no evidence that any life exists outside our planet, or that an extraterrestrial presence has contacted or engaged any member of the human race."

The response to the first Disclosure Petition was unacceptable and indefensible. Disclosure Petition II is a direct challenge to that response and could generate a substantial media engagement. Scientist, test pilot, naval officer, astronaut, entrepreneur, author and lecturer, Dr. Mitchell's extraordinary career has been a constant quest to explore and understand the world in which we live. His academic background includes a Bachelor of Science from Carnegie Mellon University, a Bachelor of Science from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and a Doctor of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT. He has received honorary doctorates in engineering from New Mexico State University, the University of Akron, Carnegie Mellon University and a ScD from Embry-Riddle University. Following Dr. Mitchell, Dr. Milton Torres, Major USAF (ret.), related an incident in 1957 while serving in the United Kingdom wherein he was ordered to shoot down a “UFO” which registered on his radar as possibly the size of an “aircraft carrier” and demonstrated extraordinary maneuverability. He was subsequently warned by an intelligence staffer to never speak of the incident to anyone or else lose his flying status. He only spoke out when the report of the incident turned up in a series of UFO file released last year into the public domain by the British government. Dr. Torres called upon the new Democratic administration under President Barack Obama to declassify and release all “UFO” related documents in government files to the American people. (CNN) -- Earth Day may fall later this week, but as far as former NASA astronaut Edgar Mitchell and other UFO enthusiasts are concerned, the real story is happening elsewhere.Mitchell, who was part of the 1971 Apollo 14 moon mission, asserted Monday that extraterrestrial life exists, and that the truth is being concealed by the U.S. and other governments.
He delivered his remarks during an appearance at the National Press Club following the conclusion of the fifth annual X-Conference, a meeting of UFO activists and researchers studying the possibility of alien life forms.
Mankind has long wondered if we're "alone in the universe. [But] only in our period do we really have evidence. No, we're not alone," Mitchell said.
"Our destiny, in my opinion, and we might as well get started with it, is [to] become a part of the planetary community. ... We should be ready to reach out beyond our planet and beyond our solar system to find out what is really going on out there."
Mitchell grew up in Roswell, New Mexico, which some UFO believers maintain was the site of a UFO crash in 1947. He said residents of his hometown "had been hushed and told not to talk about their experience by military authorities." They had been warned of "dire consequences" if they did so.
But, he claimed, they "didn't want to go to the grave with their story. They wanted to tell somebody reliable. And being a local boy and having been to the moon, they considered me reliable enough to whisper in my ear their particular story."
Roughly 10 years ago, Mitchell claimed, he was finally given an appointment at Pentagon to discuss what he had been told.
An unnamed admiral working for the Joint Chiefs of Staff promised to uncover the truth behind the Roswell story, Mitchell said. The stories of a UFO crash "were confirmed," but the admiral was then denied access when he "tried to get into the inner workings of that process."
The same admiral, Mitchell claimed, now denies the story.
"I urge those who are doubtful: Read the books, read the lore, start to understand what has really been going on. Because there really is no doubt we are being visited," he said.
"The universe that we live in is much more wondrous, exciting, complex and far-reaching than we were ever able to know up to this point in time."
A NASA spokesman denied any cover-up.
"NASA does not track UFOs. NASA is not involved in any sort of cover-up about alien life on this planet or anywhere else -- period," Michael Cabbage said Monday.
Debates have continued about what happened at Roswell. The U.S. Air Force said in 1994 that wreckage recovered there in 1947 was most likely from a balloon-launched classified government project.
Stephen Bassett, head of the Paradigm Research Group (PRG), which hosted the X-Conference, said that the truth about extraterrestrial life is being suppressed because it is politically explosive.
"There is a third rail [in American politics], and that is the UFO question. It is many magnitudes more radioactive than Social Security ever dreamed to be," Bassett said.

Washington, DC - On April 30 PRG published an Open Letter to Senator Hillary Clinton regarding Laurance Rockefeller's effort from March of 1993 through 1996 to convince her husband to release all government held files pertaining to UFOs and extraterrestrial life. This letter was published to the websites for PRG, American Chronicle, OpEd News and the National Ledger. It was also sent out to approximately 5000 television, radio, internet and print media.Executive Director

PRG watched carefully as the pages holding this Open Letter moved quickly up the search engine results at Google and Yahoo based on these search criteria:

Within 36 hours the PRG and American Chronicle Open Letter to Senator Hillary Clinton pages were at or near the top of both the Google and Yahoo search results.
At that time the Google search listings for the Open Letter to Senator Hillary Clinton published by PRG were stripped (or blocked) from the Google search results. Fortunately, this did not take place with the Yahoo search returns.
Efforts by PRG to reach Google to determine why this had happened have been fruitless.
Blocking the Google search engine from listing the web pages which contain the PRG Open Letter to Senator Hillary Clinton is a pure act of political censorship.
Given Google's behavior as regards its presence in the People's Republic of China - compliance with severe content restrictions - this act of censorship raises deeply serious questions.
First and foremost it raises the question of what other pages containing political speech not acceptable to Google are being blocked from Google search listings within the United States?
PRG is seeking pro bono legal assistance from 1st Amendment specialist attorneys in order to open a dialogue with Google to resove this matter.
