Scenario of Earth Intercepting an Alien Message
SHOULD we be prepared for an alien cyber attack? In a bizarre research paper, two astrophysicists have explored potential scenarios that could change our world forever.
| That’s the question almost no one is asking but at least two astrophysicists are answering. In a rather unusual (non-peer reviewed) research paper, the scientists explored the unlikely possibility that planet Earth received a complex message from space. | By Nick Whigham and AFP news.com.au 2-28-18 |
They paint a scenario in which three decades from now, we intercept the message from an unknown extraterrestrial intelligence. The world’s best and brightest are brought in to decipher the message but just as they do, our digital networks, power grids and internet connected devices all crash.
It turns out the aliens sent a type of galactic malware.

Photographs of the Inside of A UFO?
Francavilla (Pescara): Alien Contact in 1957?
| My book ‘UFO Contacts in Italy – Volume One’ will be published by FLYING DISK PRESS in the UK on February 1st, 2018. Much of the information in this book is being published in English for the very first time. The book contains a whole array of UFO/alien contact cases from Italy but surely one of the most unusual incidents is this one from 1957. It is the only case that I am aware of that allegedly has photographs of the inside of the UFO. What was destined to be called “the Friendship case” started near | By Dr Roberto Pinotii The UFO Chronicles 1-20-18 |

Pescara between 1956 and 1957. A group of local residents seems to have been involved in periodic regular contacts with humanlike extra-terrestrial “friends” willing to help mankind. These beings would have built underground bases on Earth and in Italy the most important one would have been in the central zone of the peninsula along the Adriatic coast not far from Pescara. Consul Alberto Perego was well aware of all this since the beginning.
In October 1957 a flying saucer was rendered visible and landed in Francavillia, Italy on the Adriatic Coast. Two men were allowed to enter the UFO and take photographs. The diameter of the UFO was 24 meters, that of the control cabin was 10 meters. Eight of these photographs were published in 1958 in the book ‘Sono Extraterrestri’ by the Italian consul Alberto Perego, who was one of the prominent participants in this case. These rare and extraordinary photographs, as well as two photographs of the alleged extraterrestrial pilot were never published outside of Italy. They have been published here for the first time.

Digital Message Sent to Possible Extraterrestrial Civilization

"The challenge of constructing any interstellar message is trying to anticipate what you and your recipient have in common," said psychologist Douglas Vakoch, president of METI International, an organization dedicated to detecting alien intelligence.
"One thing we can guarantee is they won't be native speakers of English or Swahili or Chinese." And the same problem applies to any incoming message to Earth.
"It's very reasonable to think that we will know there's an extraterrestrial out there, that we will have a message that is distinctly artificial, but that we won't be able to decipher it," Vakoch added.

The Visit: An Alien Encounter
My personal highlight from the 2015 Sheffield’s International Documentary Film Festival is an experimental film that poses a fundamental human question – if aliens were to land on Earth, what would happen?
What plans do governments and other agencies have in place to deal with such an epoch-changing event?
The surprising answer is none, according to a group of experts from the United Nations HQ in Vienna who appear in the European-made film.
Among those interviewed are Vickie Sheriff, a former spokeswoman for Britain’s Prime Minister David Cameron, and Lord Boyce, Admiral of the Fleet. . . .

A European probe that made a bouncy landing on a comet last year, and then slipped into a silent hibernation, is alive again and phoning home.
The European Space Agency's Philae comet lander, which dropped onto Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko from the Rosetta spacecraft last November, beamed an 85-second wake-up message to Earth via Rosetta yesterday (June 13), ESA officials announced today. It was the first signal from Philae in seven months since the probe fell silent on Nov. 15 after its historic comet landing. . . .

Search for Aliens May Put Mankind at Risk
"Some scientists fear that sending out signals to extraterrestrials could place mankind to a risk and this would outweigh the benefits of building communication with alien life. "
. . . The old stratagem of waiting to capture radio signals from aliens has failed many times over and Vakoch thinks that scientists would get replies if the signals are transmitted from Earth to give indications that we are in search for extraterrestrials. . . .
. . . The director of Center for SETI Research director Seth Shostak has suggested to the scientists to transmit the web contents into the deep space, with huge compilation of text, videos, sounds and pictures to provide the alien recipients an overview of human civilization.
Employing a radio transmitter would take around one month to send out the web contents into the cosmos. A better alternative scientists may opt for is using laser technology to transmit the web contents into the deep space and this will only take days to accomplish. . . .

Serious Talk about Contacting Aliens Is Sparking a Fiery Debate
One of humanity’s biggest questions is “Are we alone?”
But is that still the right question?
Astronomers have confirmed over 1,800 exoplanets in our galaxy and estimate that there are around 100 billion in total
. Abuut 50 of these seem to be habitable. So, chances are good that we are not alone.
A better question for the new age is: If ET exists, what should we do about it?
That’s what scientists at the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) Institute discussed last month at the annual American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting.
SETI is famous for its series of telescopes that search the skies for messages that look like they could be sent by intelligent extraterrestrial beings. But so far the cosmos has been quiet.
And after 50 years of listening, some of the folks at SETI are starting to say it’s high time for a change to the way we search. . . .

| Researchers are considering what the message from Earth should be. BBC World viewers write their own |

Scientists at a US conference have said it is time to try actively to contact intelligent life on other worlds.Researchers involved in the search for extra-terrestrial life are considering what the message from Earth should be.
The call was made by the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence institute at a meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in San Jose.
But others argued that making our presence known might be dangerous.
Researchers at the Seti institute have been listening for signals from outer space for more than 30 years using radio telescope facilities in the US. So far there has been no sign of ET.
The organisation's director, Dr Seth Shostak, told attendees to the AAAS meeting that it was now time to step up the search.

Aliens: "They Don't Want Anything to Do with Us," says, Dan Aykroyd
Actor Dan Aykroyd is convinced alien life forms refuse to make contact with the human race because we are seen as a "violent, depraved, disgusting species".
The Blues Brothers star is a keen student of extraterrestrial sightings and is adamant he has encountered UFOs on several occasions in the US.
He even insists he saw two suspicious objects in the sky as the horrors of the 2001 attack on the World Trade Center in New York were unfolding, and believes that sighting gives a clue as to why aliens have not made contact with humans.
Aykroyd tells The Sunday Times Magazine, "[It's] because we are a violent species. They don't want anything to do with us. They watch us.

Why ‘Aliens’ ‘Landed’ in Russia 25 Years Ago
They had small heads and wore silver overalls, apparentlyExtra-terrestrial contact has already been made — at least if you believe a report that ran 25 years ago Thursday, on Oct. 9, 1989, in the Soviet press agency TASS.
On Sept. 27 of that year, according to the official report, tall three-eyed aliens with small heads showed up in the city of Voronezh, arriving in a shiny ball (or, alternatively, a “banana-shaped” object) and bringing with them their robot. ”Scientists have confirmed that an unidentified flying object recently landed in a park in the Russian city of Voronezh,” an Associated Press translation of the report read. ”They have also identified the landing site and found traces of aliens who made a short promenade about the park.” They left behind them “two pieces of unidentified rocks,” made of a substance that “cannot be found on Earth.”
When pressed, TASS stood by the report. In fact, the agency could add more details a few days later, the New York Times reported. For example, aliens were wearing “silvery overalls and bronze boots.” . . .

Should Humanity Try to Contact Intelligent Aliens? | VIDEO
Astronomers have detected nearly 2,000 alien planets to date. As that number continues to rise, so too does the prospect of finding intelligent extraterrestrial life.
In terms of the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI), it may no longer be a matter of answering the "are we alone" question, some scientists say. Rather, just how crowded is the universe?
And if ET is out there, it may be possible to reach out with direct "radio waving" to potentially habitable exoplanets. This form of cosmic cryptography, called "Active SETI," involves no longer merely listening for a signal but purposefully broadcasting to, and perhaps establishing contact with, other starfolk.
Active SETI sounds like science fiction, but some astronomers are discussing it seriously today. The idea is, as it has been in the past, a controversial, hot-button issue, with some researchers wary of sending signals out to touch base with intelligent aliens.
Work in progress
"It’s a subject of discussion, I’ll put it that way," said Seth Shostak, senior astronomer at the SETI Institute in Mountain View, Calif. There have been many workshops and symposia over the years to discuss Active SETI, he said, and because it has a highly emotional component, "it’s like a third rail in a way," he said.
Shostak told Space.com that he feels the topic is not something to worry too much about.
"But there may not be that perception in the broader public … that we have discussed this to death. They haven’t seen these discussions nor participated in them," he said.
But exoplanet detections are making news around the world, Shostak said. "That’s putting the whole question of life in space in front of the public in a way that perhaps wasn’t true 20 years ago." . . .

Extraterrestrial Etiquette: How Should Humanity Interact with Alien Life?
Humanity should start thinking about how to interact with alien species long before coming into contact with extraterrestrial life, experts say.
Coming up with a strict set of guidelines that govern the way people on future interstellar space missions study and interact with aliens is imperative before anyone blasts off to a distant world, according to attendees at Starship Congress in August.
While a "prime directive" — the rule that prevented Star Fleet officers from interfering with the business of alien life-forms on TV's "Star Trek" — might be a little extreme, such a rule could help govern interactions between aliens and humans.
"In the event that we discover evidence of intelligent life on another world, that will be a social, cultural and technologically influential event to human affairs which will need to be managed with great care and to ensure our culture and their culture remains intact and not disrupted by this new knowledge," Kelvin Long, the founder of Project Icarus, said during a panel on Aug. 16. . . .

Contact With Aliens? Think Before You Call
My e-mail is frequently larded with interesting nuggets, such as this revelation:
"The aliens are in touch. Whenever I use my computer, they underline certain strange words on the screen ... It's a message."
Possibly. Then again, perhaps the correspondent should turn off the spell-check on his word processor.
It's as predictable as a low-grade sitcom, but every day I arrive at my office knowing that before quitting time, I will get at least one phone call or e-mail from someone who has news so startling, it should rock the world like Mick Jagger on tour. Generally, these folks are ringing or writing to report something strange in the sky or an oddity in a photo. Occasionally they inform me that smooth-skinned beings from another world, clearly overstepping the bounds of polite behavior, have abducted them for a few hours of malicious molestation.
These correspondents, all of whom are patently sincere, mostly wish to share incontrovertible proof of alien presence or influence. A few claim to have developed a breathtaking theory of physics that renders all graduate-level courses in the subject obsolete.
Either would be knowledge of a high order. Either would alter the future trajectory of humankind. I should feel flattered that someone wants me to be among the first to know.
Over the years, I've dealt with thousands of such communications, and I suppose it's inevitable that I've become slightly jaded by the stories -- which are largely repetitive. It's hardly a secret that I'm skeptical of declarations that the aliens are out and about on our planet.
Still, I try to answer every one of these mails and phone calls because, after all, it's not a violation of physics to travel from one star system to another. . . .

New Project Will Send Your Messages to Aliens in Deep Space
By Miriam Kramer
SPACE.com
6-11-13
NEW YORK — A group of scientists, businessmen and entrepreneurs are tired of waiting around for E.T. to get in touch.
Instead of passively listening for signs of intelligent life in the universe, the Lone Signal project is asking everyone with an Internet connection to help beam messages into outer space in an attempt to make our presence in the universe known.
When Lone Signal goes live late in the day on June 17, it will mark humanity's first-ever attempt to send continuous messaging to extraterrestrial intelligence, officials said. . . .
. . .Scientists working with Lone Signal have picked out a particular spot in space. All messages sent through the company's network will be transmitted to a star system called Gliese 526, which is located about 17.6 light-years from Earth. . . .
