Trinity UFO Crash Hoax – 'Witness' Credibility Implodes

Trinity UFO Crash Hoax – 'Witness' Credibility Implodes www.theufochronicles.com

"We have been attempting to verify the veteran's military service from the information that has been provided. We have conducted extensive searches of every records source and alternative records source at this Center; however, we have been unable to locate any information that would help us verify the veteran's military service."

TWO STORYTELLERS DECEIVE AN ICON OF UFOLOGY

In their years of promoting the story of a 1945 alien-craft crash and recovery, Jacques Vallee, Ph.D., and Paola Leopizzi Harris constructed a towering skyscraper of speculation on a thin foundation made of chalk. The foundation has disintegrated, yet

Vallee and Harris continue to engage in tortured exertions, seeking to avoid acknowledging the reality that their skyscraper has collapsed.

In June 2021, Vallee and Harris self-published a co-authored book, Trinity: The Best-Kept Secret, reciting a story of the crash and recovery of an alien craft. The event supposedly occurred a month after and not many miles away from the site of the first atomic-bomb test, the Trinity test of July 16, 1945. [1] An expanded Second Edition followed in August 2022. Vallee hired a publicist to promote the book and the story. By January 2023, the Trinity-crash story had been featured by media outlets as diverse as the New York Times, Tucker Carlson Tonight on the Fox News Network, and the Daily Mail in the UK, and on innumerable UFO-oriented websites and podcasts. [2]

The "Trinity" crash tale was originally based solely on the claims of two men who were both over age 60 when they first told the story in 2003 – Remigio (Reme) Baca (born October 26, 1938; died June 12, 2013) and Joseph Lopez (Jose) Padilla (born November 24, 1936, currently age 87). [3] Beginning in 2003, both men made public claims to have witnessed the crash, associated alien beings, and the subsequent recovery of the damaged alien craft by Army personnel, all of this ostensibly occurring during August 1945.

The far-reaching implications of the Trinity crash-recovery story, were it true, are the only reason why it is worth my time, or anyone's time, to further scrutinize the credibility of the witnesses, including the still-living Joseph Lopez Padilla. Padilla is now an 87-year-old man of whom few people would ever have heard, were it not for years of public promotion of his UFO crash tale by Vallee and co-author Harris, with Padilla's active cooperation. If the Padilla-Baca story is true, then the U.S. government has concealed custody of a crashed alien craft since August 1945, a span of more than 78 years – a very big deal indeed. [4]

Trinity UFO Crash Hoax: "My Dad Is A Pathological Liar," Says Witness' Son

Trinity UFO Crash Hoax

'On July 23, 2022-- many months before I published a word about the Trinity UFO-crash story or even thought about doing so-- Sammy Padilla told a New Mexico State Police officer that "my dad is a pathological liar," and expressed the belief that the Trinity UFO story was untrue.'

Sammy Padilla, now age 61, is the son of Joseph Lopez (Jose) Padilla, age 86. The two men share a single dwelling place in La Joya, New Mexico. In recent months, Jacques Vallee and Paola Harris have pointed to Jose Padilla as their primary and most trustworthy witness to the Trinity UFO crash of 1945
(which I believe to be a non-existent event, a sloppy hoax). The other claimed 1945 eyewitness, Remigio (Reme) Baca, died in 2013.

Sammy Padilla's statements to the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) were recorded in video and audio by the body cam of a NMSP officer who was dispatched in response to a request from Sammy Padilla, who wished to discuss certain alleged behavior by his father Jose, and who also seemed to have some things he wanted to get off his chest about the UFO story.

Sammy Padilla, Son of Joseph Lopez (Jose) Padilla, Speaks to a New Mexico State Police Officer 7-23-2022
Sammy Padilla told the NMSP officer, "My dad claims he saw a UFO when he was small. Well, there's these people from Europe. There's a woman especially named Paola Harris, and she has gotten him to back things up. And now they wrote a book about it, and now she's writing a life story about him, and it's going to be made into a movie, supposedly, and all this stuff. A lot of people knew it was bullshit what he's saying."

In an audio-recorded conversation with the NMSP dispatcher earlier the same day, Sammy Padilla said, "There's some people that my dad got involved with, because he claimed to see a UFO. And now this woman– it's not my cousin, but this other woman, who is writing a book about him, and telling him that this book is going to become a movie, and he's going to be famous. And so he's going on this stuff. And I can tell you, from what I have heard from what he has told other people, they're not true."

Additional statements by Sammy Padilla pertaining to certain public claims by Jose Padilla are found in transcripts below, and in the body-cam recording.

New Mexico law requires law enforcement officers to activate their body-cams during such interactions with members of the public. Such recordings (with certain redactions specified by law) are public records under the Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA), which is a state law that is in some ways similar to the federal Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), but with fewer exclusions and exceptions. In New Mexico, many interactions between law enforcement officers and members of the general public are accessible to anyone who submits a properly formulated request, which is what I did. I received the body-cam recording on May 24, 2023, along with an audio recording of an earlier conversation between Sammy Padilla and a NMSP dispatcher, and also a written report ("Event Information") summarizing some of that day's communications between Sammy Padilla and the agency personnel. All of these records were generated by interactions between Sammy Padilla and NMSP personnel on July 23, 2022.

The Event Information report attributes to Sammy Padilla the additional statement that his father "is a very good liar."

Wood also said, "You, Doug, have done a much richer and more masterful job of investigating this story and pulling out the inconsistencies and finding all sorts of good primary sources to compare and contrast."

Ryan S. Wood, whose 2005 book Majic Eyes Only was the first book to describe the Trinity UFO Crash story, and who at that time rated the story as "medium-high...60-80%" on his credibility scale, now believes that the widely disseminated story was "most likely" a hoax.

Trinity UFO Crash Hoax – (Another) Smoking Gun

Illustration of Reme Baca & Jose Padilla Coming Upon a Crashed Flying Saucer (Trinity Hoax) - 1945

"... the "eyewitness" account that Reme Baca presented to Thomas J. Carey—who audio-recorded it—was very different from the UFO-crash story that Baca and Padilla presented to the public less than one year later. "

Less than a year before going public with what became the Jacques Vallee-Paola Harris story of the 1945 crash of an avocado-shaped UFO, Reme Baca was tape-recorded peddling a very different story about a boyhood encounter that he and
Jose Padilla had with a very different sort of UFO: a tale of their discovery of a classical flying saucer, crashed-- in 1946. And that's just the start.

The Trinity UFO Crash Hoax

Illustration by www.theufochronicles.com of Reme Baca & Jose Padilla Coming Upon a Crashed Flying Saucer (Trinity Hoax) - 1945

"The current elaborate version of the Trinity UFO crash tale has been constructed in layers over the past 20 years. The story has been entertained by some in the mainstream media and by some in the halls of Congress. In the dismantling of this hoax, the devil is indeed in the details."

The astonishing story of the “Trinity UFO crash” -- an alien craft crashing in August 1945 near the site of the first atomic test, witnessed by two boys, carted off by the Army and hidden ever since-- has been presented to a wide audience in two editions of the book Trinity: The Best-Kept Secret, by Jacques Vallee and Paola L. Harris (in June 2021 and August 2022), and
through promotional efforts spun off the book. In late 2022 and early 2023, the story reached a substantially expanded audience through amplifying treatments by Fox News Network host Tucker Carlson, writers Josh Boswell and Christopher Sharp of the UK Daily Mail, the hosts of various UFO-themed podcasts and platforms– and even a respectful spin-off feature story in the New York Times, written by Remy Tumin.

Three Types of UFO – Foo Fighters Reported During The War

Headline of article, entitled Balls of Fire - Nazi 'Foo Fighters' for Company published by The Indianapolis Star on 1-2-1945

"There are three kinds of 'Foo Fighters," said Liet. Donald Meirs of Chicago. "One is red balls of fire which appear off our wing tips and fly along with us, the second is a vertical row of three balls of fire which fly in front of us and the third is a group of about 15 lights which appear off in the distance–like a Christmas tree up in the air–and flicker on and off."

A United States Night Fighter Base, France, Jan. 1.–AP–The Nazis have thrown something new into the night skies over Germany–the weird, mysterious "Foo-Fighter," balls of fire which race alongside the wings of American Beaufighters flying intruder missions over the Reich.

United States pilots have been encountering the eerie "Foo Fighter" for more than a month in their night flights. No one apparently knows exactly what the sky weapon is.

The balls of fire appear suddenly and accompany planes for miles. They appear to be radio-controlled from the ground and manage to keep up with planes flying 300 miles per hour, official reports reveal.

The pilots of this night fighter squadron – in operation since September, 1943–and three fiery balls the weirdest thing they have as yet encountered. They are convinced that the "Foo Fighter" is designed to be a psychological weapon as well as military although it is not the nature of the fire balls to attack planes.

"A 'Foo Fighter' picked me up recently at 700 feet and chased me 20 miles down the Rhine valley," Meiers said. "I turned to starboard and two balls of fire turned with me. I turned to the port and they turned with me. We were going 260 miles per hour and the balls were keeping right up with us."

"On another occasion when a 'Foo-Fighter' picked us up, I dove at 360 miles an hour. It kept right off our wing tips for awhile and then zoomed up into the sky."

"When I first saw the things off my wing tips I had the horrible thought that a German on the ground was ready to press a button and explode them. But they don't explode or attack us. They just seem to follow us like will-o-the-wisps."

(An Associated Press report from Paris Dec. 13 said the Germans had thrown silvery balls into the air against day raiders. Pilots then reported they had seen these objects both individually and in clusters, during forays over the Reich).

Among pilots at this base who have encountered "Foo Fighters" is Lieut. Henry Bockstige of evensville, Ind.

Why UFOs are Obsessed with Nukes?

Artwork by www.theufochronicles.com for the article, Nuclear Bomb Tests and UFOs - UAP at Maralinga, South Australia

"... many close encounters by US military personnel were nuclear-related. They happened near nuclear bases, test sites or atomic-powered aircraft carriers and submarines."

One under investigation is an apparent UFO crash at the White Sands Military Range in New Mexico in 1945 where a month earlier the US had tested the world’s first atomic bomb.

Witnesses - including a B-52 bomber pilot, traffic cop and US Marine - claimed to have seen the wreckage of a large egg-shaped object’ manned by thin, 4ft-tall creatures with big bulgy eyes’ who looked like praying mantises.

UFO Reported Hovering Over 38th Infantry Regimental Headquarters, Near Omaha Beach, France | UFO CHRONICLE - 1945

First Look at UFO - Los Angeles Herald-Examiner 6-18-1964

"It came ... in a straight line from the north, heading south, approximately 120 miles per hour and perhaps 3000 feet above us. There was no sound of any kind emanating from the mysterious object. It stopped over our front lines."
How It Happened

I never scoffed at the possibility of UFO existence, having observed them twice, in 1945 and 1946 in France. Have commented about the matter many times during the last 13 years since commencing to write this column.

By George Todt
Los Angeles Herald-Examiner
6-18-1964
Briefly, what happened to me was this: In August 1944, I was the Duty Officer of the 38th Infantry Regimental Headquarters staff, part of the 2nd Infantry Division, then heading south toward Falaise after the tremendous [illegible] breakthrough in the Battle of Normandy.

The Sergeant of the Guard at our headquarters awakened me a little before 1:00 am, as instructed, at my foxhole – about 100 yards away from the French farmhouse then serving as our regimental headquarters base. But as I rose to go, I saw something.

Glow is Bright

It was a prominent orange-red light which was just commencing to sail up above the trees in the northerly direction of Omaha Beach. Bigger than Venus, smaller than the moon. At first I thought it was a German V-1 jet missile. The executive officer of the 38th Regiment, Lt Col. Frank H. Boos of Janesville, Wis., had expressed a personal desire only a few days before, at our officer's mess, to see a V-1. He had not seen one prior to that time.

So the guard and I trotted up the hill on the double and called to Frank to come outside and see his V-1 at long last. He was there soon enough, as well as 1st Lt. John J. Murphy of New York City, leader of our intelligence reconnaissance platoon.

Both officers came outside and the four of us proceeded to watch the UFO – because that was what it was, actually, not a German V-1 jet missile.

Let me describe this strange light, vehicle, craft or whatever it may have been.

It came toward our interested little group in a straight line from the north, heading south, approximately 120 miles per hour and perhaps 3000 feet above us. There was no sound of any kind emanating from the mysterious object. It stopped over our front lines.

Who Knows

The UFO had a reddish-orange glow that looked about the same color as a red hot horseshoe just before the blacksmith plungers it into the water to cool it off again. This glow pulsated rhythmically every two or three seconds, contracting and expanding constantly. We could not see the outlines of the stalled UFO.

The UFO was halted for about a minute overhead when I commenced to time its stay on my illuminated dial wristwatch; it was anchored silently above us, as though observing something, for 15 minutes.

Suddenly it commenced to move away from us at a 90-degree right angle and disappeared into nearby clouds. What was it? Who knows?

Military personnel witnessed a UFO approach their position and hover for several minutes during the war in 1945.

UFO Incident April 25, 1945: Bomber Pilot Encounters UFO, Loses Power
The UFO incident occurred at 9.45 GMT just after a turn near Kaiserslautern, Germany on the final approach to Berchtesgaden. (Image is for illustrative purposes only).

An observation over Germany in 1945

At the time of the sighting Kit Francis Williams was an Acting Squadron Leader in the Royal Air Force (RAF), England. Kit was in the 617 Bomber Squadron based at Woodall Spa, East Lincolnshire, England.

The sighting occurred on the 25 April 1945 while on a bombing mission for Bomber Command’s Special Duties Squadron. Kit was the pilot of the Avro Lancaster bomber, that was the wing finder in the flight group. This was the final bombing mission of the Squadron in the Second World War. The mission comprised 25 to

26 aircraft, and had been tasked to bomb, ‘Hitler’s hideout, Berchtesgaden,’ this was Hitler’s mountain retreat and headquarters at Obersalzberg, in the Bavarian Alps, Germany. These headquarters were also known as the Berghof (residence).

The UFO incident occurred at 9.45 GMT just after a turn near Kaiserslautern, Germany on the final approach to Berchtesgaden. The Lancaster was at an altitude of 16,500 feet (5030 metres), the sky was clear below and the there was a solid cloud cover at 18,500 feet (5640 metres). The nearest aircraft would have been two miles (three kilometres) to the port. The main bomber group, referred to as the, ‘Gaggle’ would have been ten to fifteen miles (16 to 24 kilometres) behind.

Kit, who was the pilot, witnessed, without warning, what he described as, ‘Like a great blanket, a woolly blanket,’ that may have been four to five miles wide (six to eight kilometres). Kit explained that it, ‘Seemed to fill the whole of the windscreen,’ and the colour was grey/brown like, ‘An old army type blanket.’

The object appeared to be moving in the vertical direction past the windscreen of the aircraft, and was gone, ‘In an instant.’

Lost bomb

Immediately following this sighting, the only bomb in the aircraft broke loose, from its mounting, and, ‘Crashed,’ through the bomb bay door and out of the aircraft. The bomb was a 12,000 pound (5443 kilograms) armour piercing type, known as a, ‘Tallboy.’ Kit could hear and feel the vibration of the bomb crashing through the bomb bay doors.

At the same time as the bomb loss, the electrical power in the aircraft failed. This resulted in the four propeller engines losing power and therefore the aircraft could not be properly trimmed from the lift
caused by the bomb’s weight loss. All four engine revolution counters started to drop and all other electrically powered instruments ceased to function.

Kit said during the interview that it was, ‘Obvious that my electrics had gone,’ and they were losing height.

The emergency action plan was commenced where the inboard port engine was, ‘Feathered,’ the other three engines continued, ‘Windmilling.’ The, ‘Feathered,’ engine was locked in its starting position and then started using the backup battery power system on the aircraft. The three other engines were successfully started using the same technique since, ’Windmilling,’ engines could not be started without first being, ‘Feathered.’ The aircraft had dropped 4000 feet (1220 metres) to an altitude of 12,000 feet (3658 metres) due to the power loss.

At the same time as Kit was working on starting the first engine when he, ‘Thought he had hit his head on something,’ and a, ‘Sudden sensation of a pounding headache,’ this sensation continued.

Due to the damage caused by the detached bomb, the bomb bay door could not be closed, apart from that there appeared to be no other damage to the aircraft. The other aircraft in the group continued with their bombing mission. Kit’s aircraft returned to the base in England, since they were now without a bomb. Another aircraft in the group apparently saw the bomb being dropped from Kit’s aircraft and the loss of altitude, they did not see anything else, such as, the unidentified object.

Since the headache occurred, Kit was having difficulty getting his reflexes working normally and having to think about an action before its execution. Kit noticed that the Engineer and the Bomber appeared to be having the same experience, of a headache. Kit commented that the Bomber, ‘Gave the impression that someone had walked up behind him, and slapped him hard, between the shoulder blades,’ adding that the Engineer had the same expression. After taking to all the crew he confirmed that they all had the same type of headache. The headaches were so debilitating that they were all taking a variety of pain relief medication that were in the emergency kits in the aircraft.

Because of the condition caused by the headache, Kit had not been able to land the aircraft successfully and ran off the runway at the end, and onto a grass verge. After landing their Lancaster in England an ambulance was waiting for them.

At the time of the incident, Kit was 19 years old, the eldest of the flight crew, the Navigator, was 26 years old.

After effects

Kit told McDonald that after landing the crew and himself were taken for medical treatment and interrogation, over a period of eleven days. They were first transferred to the base hospital then to Wokingham, England. Following this, to the ‘Guinea Pigs,’ hospital at Rauceby RAF, where all the medical specialists were located. They were finally moved to High Wickham, Bomber Command headquarters and then to the MI9 Enemy Intelligence and Interrogation Centre. The medical treatment consisted of various tests and the taking of medications to mitigate the headache, none of these treatments were successful. Kit commented that he was in a poor state of health because of the incident.

Kit said on the eleventh day is, ‘When the headache dispersed.’ Kit had found out that all the air crew, except the rear gunner, had ceased having headaches on the same day, within 12 hours of each other. The Rear Gunner took three weeks for the headache to dissipate.

The seven crew in the Lancaster were all different physical builds, and apparently that they were all equally effected by the headache. Kit commented to McDonald that he suspected that the unidentified object had caused the power loss in the aircraft, the headaches and loss of physical co-ordination.

Kit explained to McDonald that he knew of a similar event that occurred just after Christmas 1944 when a Hawker Tempest, piloted by John Dunk, lost power over the English Channel. The pilot had bailed out of the aircraft. Another similar event occurred in Nine Squadron during August 1944, when an aircraft lost power and the crew bailed out in the same area as Kit had lost power.

Kit claimed that there were other bomber crews at High Wickham Bomber Command, at the same time he was there. He noticed that these crews were taken to the same sections in the Command buildings and he therefore speculated that they may have been there because they had similar experiences while flying.

Kit witnesses one other sighting on the 1 January 1955 in the central highlands of Malaysia. He, ‘Was advised that there was a peculiar aircraft flying around the area.’ Therefore, he climbed, with others, at ‘Frasers Hill,’ to observe the unidentified object. He was the Field Security Officer. He did not initially notice anything, but the Tamil who had seen the object previously, climbed a tree to get a better view. Kit said that the Tamil, ‘Right out of the blue he started screaming has head off,’ and came down the tree to point, and he observed, ‘There was a puff, looked like a puff of green like smoke, like you would see from a smoke bomb.’ The, ‘Puff,’ was six to seven hundred feet (180 to 210 metres) above the tops of the mountains.

As it expanded Kit took several photographs until it dispersed over a period of six or seven minutes. The colour of the, ‘Puff,’ was described by Kit as being, ‘Bright sea green.’ Apparently, the Tamil has seen a flash of light before the, ‘Puff.’ At that time, he had the same feeling that the headache may reoccur, like the one he had in 1945. This discomfort lasted for about an hour and then dissipated. The Tamil had previously sighted the, ‘Peculiar aircraft,’ and described it as being like a flat shinny ball and without any noise.

Kit told Mc Donald that he resided at, Ortolan Avenue, Broadmeadows, Victoria. His telephone number was 309 2468.

Kit said that he had no lasting disability because of the incident in 1944. After leaving the hospital he commenced flying two weeks later with a doctor and another pilot on board to access his ability for flying. He later joined the Tiger Force, in Burma, and after that he worked at London University. He went to Japan after their surrender, at the end of the Second World War, and eventually moved to Australia.

When he had the second headache in 1955 he, ‘Had the impression that one was around,’ referring to the unidentified object.

Kit thought, at the meetings with other air crew, that talk of UFO activity is, ‘Conspicuous by absence.’ He also claimed that religious people are not comfortable with discussing the reality of UFOs.

Former US Navy Pilot Says Huge Fireball Maneuvered Above the Hanford Atomic Plant During World War II: First Attempted Intercept of a UFO by a Military Fighter?

Navy Fighters Chase UFO Over Hanford Atomic Plant in 1945

By Robert Hastings
The UFO Chronicles
10-3-15

UFO incursions at U.S. atomic/thermonuclear weapons sites, from the 1940s onward, are detailed in thousands of declassified Army, Air Force, Navy, FBI, and CIA documents. Moreover, hundreds of U.S. military veterans have now discussed their involvement in one or more of those incidents in video interviews.

One of them, former U.S. Navy Lieutenant Junior Grade Clarence R. “Bud” Clem, says that a UFO monitored one of our fissile materials facilities—the Hanford plutonium-production plant in Washington State—on three different nights in January 1945, some seven months before Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed. Clem says that members of his Navy Hellcat F6F fighter squadron chased them away.

UFOs and Nukes researcher Robert Hastings first learned of the incidents when Clem wrote to him in 2009, but it was not until December 2013 that funds became available to capture the former fighter pilot on video. The edited, four-minute interview may be seen here:

In July 2014, UFO historian Jan Aldrich revealed that his research group, Project 1947, had secured World War II-era documents from Headquarters Fourth Air Force, which referred to overflights of the Hanford site by “unidentified aircraft”. One of them, dated January 23, 1945, and directed to the Commanding General of the Army Air Forces and the Assistant Chief of Air Staff, Training, states:
Resulting from an unidentified aircraft flying over the Hanford Engineering Company Plant at Pasco, Wash. on at least three nights in the past month (this Company is engaged in undisclosed projects for the War and Navy Departments) this HQ was requested by [Western Defense Command], about ten days ago, to move one [battery] of searchlights from Seattle to the Pasco plant. The Thirteenth Naval District has made arrangements for Naval Air Station, Pasco, to employ both radar and fighter aircraft in attempting interception of these unidentified aircraft. The airspace over the Hanford Company is both a Danger area and a Restricted area. Our battery of searchlights has been in place since 15 January; one incident has occurred since that date in which a brief radar contact was made—attempted night interception again failed.
So here we have an official document referring an unidentified aircraft flying over the Top Secret Hanford atomic materials production plant on three occasions in January 1945. At least one of those “aircraft” was tracked on radar and successfully eluded the U.S. Navy fighter sent up to intercept it.

In conclusion, declassified military documents confirm the events described by former USN fighter pilot Bud Clem. Unfortunately, when Robert Hastings attempted to notify Clem of the discovery of those documents by Jan Aldrich, in July 2014, he learned that Clem had died the previous month.
