One occupational hazard of reporting on unexplained phenomena: You can always count on waking up in the morning to find an email from someone swearing that they've just seen Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, a hybrid human alien or a UFO on the moon.

2015 began with a photo from John Rodriguez, a 66-year-old retired electrician, who claims that he was fishing Dec. 26 on the Hillsborough River near northeast Tampa, Florida, and came upon an incredible sight.

"I fish for gar in the river and I bring my camera to take pictures of the birds and what not. I heard a squishing sound, looked over and saw this thing walking through the water and crouch down in the duck weed. It did not look like a guy in a suit -- it was definitely an animal. I took this picture and got out of there as fast as I could." . . .

Rick Dyer, who once proclaimed he'd "go down in history as the best Bigfoot tracker in the world," has cried Bigfoot a few too many times. Last Friday Dyer confessed that the purported Bigfoot that he toured -- and charged folks to see -- was a fake.

In a post to his Facebook page, Dyer wrote a long and rambling confession. "Coming clean about everything is necessary for a new start," Dyer wrote. "From this moment own (sic), I wlll speak the truth! No more lies, tall tales or wild goose chases to mess with the haters!"

This chapter in Dyer's ongoing Bigfoot fantasy began in 2012 (some years after a previous Bigfoot hoax in 2008 to which he also confessed), when he claimed to kill an 8-foot-tall Bigfoot-like creature in Texas. He went on to declare last year that an unnamed university had completed DNA analysis and determined that the creature -- nicknamed "Hank" by Dyer -- was an unknown species.

In January, Dyer announced that he would take the beast on a national tour and charge people to see it. From the start, the tour encountered problems -- among them a lack of venues willing to let him display Hank, and Dyer's unwillingness to release the alleged DNA "results." . . .

Bigfoot 'Killer' Rick Dyer: 'It's Really Easy To Trick People'

"There's no more evidence for Bigfoot than the Tooth Fairy or the Easter Bunny. And that's what people have to get through their heads."

It might come as a surprise to some -- especially to Bigfoot believers -- that the man who reportedly made that statement in 2010 was none other than Rick Dyer. Yes, the same Rick Dyer who is driving an RV through the American South, hauling around the remains of what he claims is a Bigfoot that he allegedly shot and killed in 2012 on the outskirts of San Antonio. . . .

. . . Probably the biggest thing going against Dyer's credibility was his previously admitted involvement in a 2008 Bigfoot hoax. That's the kind of thing that doesn't easily go away in the memory cells of the public.

Watch this recently released video compilation of Rick Dyer statements about his Bigfoot activities:

"I was one of the people who did the Bigfoot hoax in 2008, and got worldwide notoriety. ... And it turned out to be a hoax with a lot of money off this hoax. I, myself, made a ton of money. We are now looked at as the black sheeps [sic] of the Bigfoot community, and let me tell you something: We don't care.

SAN ANTONIO -- In 2009, San Antonio dispatchers couldn’t believe their ears: a 911 call was made from a homeless couple camping near Hwy 151.

The anonymous couple claimed a Bigfoot was in woods with them.

"That news story that you covered, that's what let the cat out of the bag," said self-proclaimed Bigfoot hunter Rick Dyer.

Dyer said that report prompted him to head to Texas, where he tracked down the Sasquatch and shot not one—but two--of the beasts near Loop 1604 in northwest Bexar County.

"There's no allegedly about it. I shot and killed the beasts there," Dyer said.

If Dyer’s name sounds familiar to viewers, it’s because he made KENS 5 news for other reasons in 2011, when San Antonio police arrested him for defrauding folks on eBay, for allegedly selling them Corvettes he never delivered.

But Dyer’s real fame comes among the Bigfoot hunting community: where he is known for a Sasquatch hoax in 2008 that gained international attention.

Man who claims he killed Bigfoot releases more pictures of the mythical creature

Las Vegas resident Rick Dyer, 36, said he killed an adult and adolescent Bigfoot near San Antonio in September 2012. He plans an international tour of the body and said there are more out there.

The self-described "Best Bigfoot Tracker in the World" has released more pictures of the mythical creature he shot and killed in Texas in September 2012.

And plans for an international tour where Bigfoot's body will finally be made available for public viewing is expected to start next week.

Rick Dyer, who has been tracking the legendary beast full-time since 2008, announced recently he actually killed the mysterious species in a wooded area outside of San Antonio. He claims he killed two an adult and adolescent - and there are more Bigfoot (Bigfeet?) out there.

His declaration has been met with much skepticism, but Dyer told the Daily News he will begin a tour of the creature's body on Feb. 6 in Flagstaff Az. - though official locations have not been finalized.

"I'm negotiating with 10 different venues that all want us," he said. . . .

'Ten Million Dollars' Offered for Proof of Bigfoot | VIDEO

The worlds of Bigfoot and science collide tonight with the premiere of Spike TV's "Ten Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty."

Actor Dean Cain hosts and leads an ambitious expedition to the Pacific Northwest of America to try and discover the elusive tall, hairy creature known as Bigfoot, aka Sasquatch.

"Before the show, I was extremely skeptical, however hopeful," Cain, 47, told The Huffington Post. "Then I started doing research and found that we discover as many as 15,000 new species every year, on average, in the United States. They're usually insects and sometimes primates. There's a lot of things to be discovered that we have not laid our eyes upon."

Spike TV assembled nine teams of hunters of varying skills and experience for the programs. Certainly the big lure for these teams -- each comprised of two people -- is the financial holy grail at the end of the eight week-long series: $10 million for irrefutable proof of Bigfoot's existence.

The prize, underwritten by Lloyd's of London, is one of the largest cash prizes ever offered in TV history.

WATERVILLE, Maine — In the same month the Statue of Liberty was dedicated in New York in 1886, a handful of newspapers in New England published stories about a deadly encounter in the Maine woods involving what today likely would be termed “Bigfoot” or “Sasquatch.”

The story of the 10-foot-tall “wild man” with 7-foot-long arms and hair growing all over his face and body was reported in broadsheets of the time after first gracing the pages of the Waterville Sentinel, a weekly paper that no longer exists. The Waterville Morning Sentinel was established 18 years later in 1904.

Tales of these seldom-seen, mysterious apelike beasts are found in Maine folklore, according to experts, but they are more prevalent in California, Washington and Oregon tales. Online searches yield hundreds of similar stories from around the globe.

The Maine story starts in early October 1886 when “an affrighted Frenchman from over the line” arrived in the Elm City to weave a frightening tale of woe, according to an excerpt from the Sentinel published in at least two other papers of the era, the Wilton Record and The Industrial Journal of Bangor.

“The Frenchman’s story, which is implicitly believed, is that three men were camping out in the woods about a hundred miles north of Moosehead Lake,” the 127-year-old newspaper articles state. “Two of the campers were away from the camp for a week and came back to find the dead body of their companion.”

The unnamed storyteller, possibly a Canadian, “had his fellows in town all by the ears” with the story about the giant wild man he encountered in the dense woods above Moosehead, according to the papers. . . .

Mt. Shasta, the Cascade peak that mesmerized John Muir, has long attracted mystics, metaphysicians and spiritualists. Now a researcher is seeking 'stories and information' for a book on Bigfoot and UFO sightings.

Reporting from Mount Shasta, Calif. — Locals didn't find the ads, posted at the laundromat or running in the SuperSaver, to be strange at all.

A number of people, in fact, reached out to Brian Wallenstein the "researcher looking to gather stories and information" for a book on Bigfoot and UFO sightings.

A woman named Rudi emailed to report that she'd seen a bright disc hovering above Mt. Shasta. She attached a photo from a ski resort snow cam that showed a luminous speck. (Credible, Wallenstein thought.)

A man named Larry recounted his own research — including telepathic communication with "them" — conducted in preparation for the day extraterrestrials would reveal themselves to earthlings. (Too out there, Wallenstein decided.)

People pulled him aside to share anecdotes of mystery lights and star gates, or to whisper the names of neighbors and brothers with tales to tell. . . .

A group of international scientists made headlines last month after suggesting they were "95 percent" certain they'd found evidence that the elusive Yeti -- or fabled Siberian Snowman -- really exists.

But one scientist who was part of the big snowman hunt tells The Huffington Post that local Siberian officials staged the entire snowman scenario -- all for publicity.

"It was a very awkward feeling because here I was a guest and this was clearly orchestrated," said Idaho State University anthropologist and anatomist Jeffrey Meldrum. . . .

Researchers are claiming they are 95 percent sure that the fabled Russian version of the Abominable Snowman or Bigfoot lives in the Kemerovo region of Siberia.

Last week, a group of international scientists met in Moscow and then set out to the remote mountainous area in search of the elusive creature (depicted above).

It didn't take very long for them to issue a statement on the official Kemerovo website stating they had found "footprints, a probable den and various markers that Yetis mark their territory with." . . .

A recent report from KXLK.com states that students from Spokane Community College while hiking at Downriver Park last weekend caught an image of the legendary BigFoot.

One of the students, Samantha (last name not given) posted an "edited version" of the "IPhone camera footage on YouTube where regular viewers there were a little skeptical–to say the least.
