Roswell Army Air Base was located 150 air miles from Sandia Base, south of Albuquerque, the lab where nuclear weapons were being developed and assembled. In July 1947, as the two key nuclear installations conducted joint operations, a startling event occurred halfway between them.

Near the village of Corona, a rancher reported wreckage from a strange crashed aircraft. An intelligence team from Roswell assessed the site and collected debris, reporting back to the base Commander, Colonel William Blanchard. On July 8, 1947, with his consent, the press officer issued a news release:

The many rumors regarding the flying discs became a reality yesterday when the intelligence office of the 509th (atomic) Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force, Roswell Army Air Field, was fortunate enough to gain possession of a disc through the cooperation of one of the ranchers and the sheriff's office of Chaves County. The flying object landed on a ranch near Roswell sometime last week. Not having phone facilities, the rancher stored the disc until such time as he was able to contact the sheriff's office, who in turn notified Jesse A Marcel of the 509th Bomb Group Intelligence Office. Action was immediately taken and the disc was picked up at the rancher's home. It was inspected at the Roswell Army Air Field and subsequently loaned by Major Jesse Marcel to higher headquarters.

Senate Staffer, Dick D'Amato's Statement On UFO Crashes in New Mexico

Senate Staffer, Dick D'Amato's Statement On UFO Crashes in New Mexico

Recently, I discovered Dick D’Amato’s current official position on UFO Crashes. He was a senior US Senate staffer, who met numerous UFO researcher on the matter back in 1990s. According to archive.org, the statement is present on his official website at least from 2013. It reads in full:
By Giuliano Marinkovic
omnitalkradio
5-26-20
1980'S INQUIRY INTO UNIDENTIFIED AERIAL CRASH IN NEW MEXICO

“In the 1980's and 1990's, I served on the staff of the Senate Democratic Leader, Senator Robert C. Byrd, and my responsibilities involved helping manage the budgets of the Department of Defense and the National Foreign Intelligence Program. My duties included responding to a Senators and committees request for information, analysis, and legislation on a variety of national security issues. In this context, a senior Senate Committee chairman asked me to conduct a preliminary inquiry into allegations that came to his attention regarding unidentified aerial crashes in the 1940's in New Mexico. I met with a number of people who had made public statements on the matter. I reported my conclusion to the Senator that the basis for such allegations did not appear to merit any further Senate investigation. Beyond this inquiry on behalf of the Senator, I have no personal opinion on the matter and consider the inquiry to have been closed for over 20 years.”
Discovery happened while I was processing some leftovers on Dick D’Amato that I previously collected. Amato’s official page was located on this address:

http://cricharddamato.com

However, that domain is now defunct but this one still works:

http://www.megalomediadesigns.com/dickdamato.html

His statement is positioned under the section “Downloads” where it leads to subsection titled:

Response to UFO Chronicles

http://www.megalomediadesigns.com/dickdamato_response.html

I immediately contacted Frank Warren – author of the UFO Chronicles website - to double check if D’Amato ever submitted this response to him. It was not so but this article possibly triggered D’Amato’s to put his reaction on the website (article describes meeting between Jesse Marcel Jr and Dick D’Amato):

Jesse Marcel Jr.

Although D’Amato’s statement on his website has a different tone compared to reported off the record meetings, it is still valuable to be aware about his official position on the topic.

Darwin Rasmussen and the Roswell Bodies

Darwin Rasmussen and the Roswell Bodies

In keeping with my series on Chasing Footnotes, I have found a subtopic that is almost as interesting (well, it is to me) which is finding original sources (which, of course, is sort of the same thing). Not all that long ago I ran across an analysis of the Roswell case in which it was claimed that Captain Darwin Rasmussen (later Colonel) had assisted Major Jesse Marcel in recovering the alien bodies. I have never heard anything like that and it puzzled me because, as far as I knew, only Stan Friedman and I had interviewed Rasmussen’s cousin, Elaine Vegh.

By Kevin Randle
A Different Perspective
2-20-16

Now that you all are thoroughly confused, let me explain. Back in 1990, I learned of Elaine Vegh whose claim to fame in this arena was that her first cousin, Darwin Rasmussen, had been a career Air Force officer who was stationed in Roswell in 1947. According to her, she had been standing near her father when Rasmussen reportedly said, “…never doubt that there is a cover up here. We did pick up bodies and the Air Force does have them.”

She also said, “He had seen what was picked up. He had seen the craft.”

First, before the skeptics all go nuts, let me point out that this is a second-hand story of an overheard conversation that had taken place at least a decade and a half prior to that. As evidence of anything, it isn’t worth very much. Elaine Vegh was probably relating the story as best she could remember, but see didn’t see anything herself and her memory of this is somewhat clouded… I’ll get back to this.

That was really all she said to me. Her cousin had been part of a retrieval team; he had seen bodies and the wrecked craft. She had nothing in the way of evidence, there are or were no family letters or documents, and according to Vegh, Rasmussen said, “I was there… but we were told to forget what we saw…”

Well, Rasmussen’s picture is not in the Yearbook, but that doesn’t matter. I have a copy of the Roswell base telephone directory published in August 1947, and his name is in there. That puts him in Roswell at the right time. I also found his name associated with a 509th flight crew.

Second, this little tale has not been used very often. Friedman seems to have ignored it, and given everything, I’m not overly surprised. It is second hand without any corroboration. Rasmussen died in 1975 and Vegh’s father died in 1983. No one else heard the conversation and there wasn’t much in the way of detail.

Yes, I used it in UFO Crash in Roswell and Tom Carey and Don Schmitt used it in Witness to Roswell, interestingly without providing credit for the interview. Their footnote just mentioned an interview in 1990 (March 1, 1990 to be precise) but failed to mention that I conducted it, taped it, and supplied a copy to Don. Anyone reading their book might conclude they had conducted the interview.
There was a reference to Rasmussen and what he had seen here.

In this case, it was suggested that Rasmussen had seen four bodies and Vegh did say that he, Rasmussen "... had first hand knowledge of four beings and their craft..." Here Rasmussen is described as the Operations Officer for the 715th Bomb Squadron which was part of the 509th. The referenced sources here are both UFO Crash at Roswell and Witness to Roswell. In Witness to Roswell he is described as a flight operations officer and in UFO Crash at Roswell as an Operations Officer (and unfortunately the organization is misidentified as the 718th). I have since located some records that showed he was assigned to an aircrew as a radar officer for Operation Crossroads. That information, which does not relate to Roswell, can be seen here.

Another reference found retold the story, clearly from UFO Crash at Roswell, but the text does identify the source, and it comes back to me. It adds nothing to it until that recent note that injected Jesse Marcel into it by someone else.

I can find nothing to explain where the idea came that Rasmussen had mentioned Marcel. Tracing the tale to the source, which is probably me given that Friedman didn’t use it, I know that Vegh did not say that to me. The conclusion that I draw is that someone somewhere just assumed that Marcel would have been involved and injected him into a tale in which his name had not surfaced. In Witness to Roswell Carey and Schmitt argue that Marcel had to have seen the bodies so it is not a large step to Marcel and Rasmussen being together at some point. This, I believe, is an assumption made by them but is not based on any testimony.

And finally let’s talk about that clouded memory. Vegh had said that she had overheard the story when she was 10 or 12. In 1990, and I’m sure she would be annoyed for me saying this, she was 62. She also said that she had graduated from high school in 1945… which means that, if she had the timing right, this had nothing to do with Roswell…

That’s a point she figured out later as we discussed this. I mentioned that the crash was in 1947 (is that such a big secret that I should have kept it to myself… and oh, she had seen the Unsolved Mysteries broadcast before we spoke so I wasn’t giving away anything and we had talked about the date throughout the interview) she said, “I graduated high school in 1945 so I must have been little older.”

So, we see that her original memory was of her overhearing this when she was younger was inaccurate, and I’m not sure that’s the real problem here. Misremembering her age seems fairly trivial in the overall scheme of things. The real problem is the lack of corroboration for the story. True, her cousin was in Roswell at the right time, and since he died in 1975, this would have been before all the Roswell information came out (she didn’t mention it until 1990 remember) but there is just nothing here we can prove. It is a story with almost no real foundation, told by a sincere woman who clearly believes it, but it is also told by a woman who did not accurately remember her age at the time. This tale is one of those little bits of trivia that seem to dot the Roswell landscape.

The Size of the 'Roswell Debris Field'

Rowell Debris Field - Circa Early 1990's
The Debris Field as identified by Bill Brazel as it appeared in the early 1990s. (© Kevin Randle)

By Kevin Randle
A Different Perspective

Since I posted the article that suggested that Bessie Brazel’s testimony might be in error and that it was contradicted by that given by so many others, we have been all over the board. Nearly everyone was selecting that data which tended to support their position and ignore everything else. So, I thought I would take some of those points and provide the data available about them. I realize that some of you are so far to one side or the other that any sort of compromise is impossible, but for those who are interested in all the information, I will try to publish a series of articles that look at some aspect of this case.

First, I’ll tackle the size of the debris field because it seems to range from a square mile down to an area about 200 feet in diameter. That’s quite a big difference, and I know that we’ll never reach a consensus, but heck; we might have a little fun and learn something by accident.

The testimonies given after 1978 which is when Jesse Marcel, Sr. was identified as having recovered pieces of a flying saucer provide some of the data. Marcel himself told Bill Moore (The Roswell Incident, p. 63) that it was “about three quarters of a mile long and a couple of hundred feet wide.”

Stan Friedman, in his book, Crash at Corona (p.10) wrote of Marcel’s description, “The area covered with wreckage was roughly three quarters of a mile long and several hundred yards wide.”

Moore also quotes Walt Whitmore, Jr. as giving a description. Whitmore hadn’t seen the field before the Army cleaned it up, according to his testimony at that time. Moore wrote (p. 89), “Several days later Whitmore, Jr., ventured out to the site and found a stretch of about 175 – 200 yards of pastureland uprooted in a sort of fan-like pattern with most of the damage at the narrowest part of the fan.”

Whitmore told Karl Pflock (p. 154), “The debris covered a fan- or roughly triangle-shaped area, which was about 10 or 12 feet wide at what I thought was the top end. From there it extended about 100 to 150 feet, widening out to about 150 feet at the base. This area was covered with many, many bits of material.”

Bill Brazel, who hadn’t seen the debris in the field except for the small pieces he said he had found, also talked of a gouge that ran through the pasture. He said that it was narrow at one end spread out toward the center and then narrowed again. Although he didn’t give us a length of the gouge, he eventually took us to what he thought of as the top of the gouge. Later, during the CUFOS archaeological dig there, we measured down from that point, about three quarters of a mile, placing little flags along the way.

Bud Payne, who was a judge in New Mexico, said that he had been out to the debris field but had been turned back by the military cordon. He did get close to it and this would be irrelevant, except he took me out to the location he thought was the debris field. When he stopped his vehicle and we got out, I nearly stepped on one of those little flags we had placed there. We have attempted to gather them all but had missed the last one. Payne took me to the same three quarter of a mile stretch of New Mexico desert and through this provided, to a degree, the size of the field.

And, of course, there is the testimony in the affidavit signed by Bessie Brazel. She said, “There was a lot of debris scattered sparsely over an area that seems to me now to have about the size of a football field [or about an acre].”

The most widely quoted size of the field is that given by Marcel. It can be found in a number of books but as noted here, it is traceable to that interview supplied to Bill Moore.

We are told, of course, that these memories are decades old and might be unreliable. Studies of memory and how it works suggest that confabulation (as opposed to lying) can often fill in gaps in memory, that each time a memory is accessed it is subject to alteration, and sometimes the memories simply no longer exist, yet the witness (I can think of no other word that fits here because they were involved in 1947) as he or she concentrates begins to put together a story that seems plausible.

We do have quite a few newspaper stories that were written in 1947, literally within hours of some of the men walking the fields, so that their memories should be clear and accurate. I say this knowing full well that some of the information given to the reporters was less than accurate and some of it that was published had been misunderstood.

The Roswell Daily Record, for example, reported, “The rubber [from the debris] was smoky gray in color and scattered over an area about 200 yards in diameter.”

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, in a later edition of their “Disc-overy Near Roswell Identified as Weather Balloon by FWAAF Officer,” reported, “Brazell [sic], whose ranch is 30 miles from the nearest telephone and has no radio, knew nothing about flying discs when he found the broken remains of the weather device scattered over a square mile of his land.”

The Albuquerque Tribune, in a story attributed to Jason Kellahin on July 9 reported, “Scattered with the materials over an area about 200 yards across were pieces of gray rubber.”

What does this tell us about the size of the debris field? Not much, actually. Those who wish to believe it was small, have several sources they can quote. Cavitt, in his interview with Colonel Richard Weaver didn’t provide a very vivid account of the size. He said that it was about twenty feet, but the statements were somewhat confusing. He might have been describing what he suspected was the size of the object or he might have been describing the distribution of the debris. He told Weaver, “Some here, some here, some here. No concentration of it. No marks on the ground, dug up, anything hidden or anything like that, just out on the territory around the bottom of New Mexico…”

I don’t believe Whitmore’s testimony on this is reliable but suspect there was some collusion between Max Littell of the Roswell museum and Whitmore to come up with some debris, no matter what it was. They talked about creating a display in Roswell, but I don’t believe that Littell had thought that through. If Whitmore’s debris were pieces of a balloon, as he suggested to Pflock, then the mystique of the Roswell case eroded at that point and not many people would drive out of the way to look at a museum dedicated to a weather balloon.

Whitmore had told Moore that the site had been cleaned before he got there but contradicted that when he told Pflock that he saw the debris and even claimed to have some of it. The debris had been locked in his safe deposit box, but when the box grew too full, he moved the debris to his “junk room.” Although searches were made, nothing was ever found. It was just one more bit of debris that vanished.

There is Jesse Marcel’s testimony about the size of the field which he gave after 1978, but there is one story that provides some corroboration which was published in 1947. In Linda Corley’s book, Marcel said, “It was about a mile long and several hundred feet wide of debris.”

Brazel, according to one newspaper account agreed with that size, saying it was scattered over a square mile of the land. This was in a story other than the one written by J. Bond Johnson.

Returning to the Roswell Daily Record, Brazel, it seems, was saying that the debris field was about 200 yards in diameter and the Albuquerque Tribune changed the wording to 200 yards across which is not quite the same thing but is close. The by-line on the Albuquerque Tribune story, as noted, was by Kellahin, so he was apparently working from his notes made in Roswell.

All this means is that if you are a skeptic, you have some evidence that the size of the debris field was relatively small. If you are a believer, you have some evidence that the debris field is relatively large. You have the majority of the testimonies suggesting a large field from the record after 1978 but Bessie Brazel suggests it was about 100 yards by 50 yards, or about the size of a football field.

Or, in other words, this is a wash. Whatever side you come down on, there is testimony to support it. Not exactly a profound finding but just an observation that suggests there are facts for everyone to cherry pick.

Lie Detector Confirms Key Roswell Crash Witness Told The Truth

Bookmark and Share

By Anthony Bragalia
The Bragalia Files
12-14-11
To catch a liar is not easy. Our ability to detect a lie is 50/50. This “no better than chance” ability was improved upon with the advent of the polygraph in the early 1920s. This raised those odds to about 65%, though the polygraph remains “fluky” and the results it produces, controversial. But a new technology has recently emerged that applies software to analyze psycholinguistic cues to indicate truthfulness. This new “lie catcher” software was recently applied to the testimony of a key witness to the Roswell UFO crash in early July of 1947. This witness was Major Jesse Marcel. The new technology confirms that Jesse Marcel had indeed told the truth as a Witness to Roswell.

THE TECHNOLOGY

Two renowned professors at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ have recently stunned the criminal psychology and law enforcement communities with the introduction of a computer program offering an astounding 86%-99% rate of success in lie detection. The creators of this “veracity software” are Dr. Raj Chandramouli and Dr. Koduvayur Subbalakshmi. The two (who have established Instream Media, LLC) are now developing partnerships with insurance companies (to detect against false claims) and other businesses where deception often comes in to play. The software developed by the professors is an extraordinary text analytics program.

Dr. Chandrmouli (who graciously provided the software and instructions for use to this author) explains that their approach to deceptive content utilizes a unique combination of statistical analysis, linguistics and psychology. The software combs for 88 psycholinguistic cues that indicate whether an individual is “covering up” or speaking the truth as he or she understands and believes it to be. Traditional polygraphs examine such things as pulse, sweat and respiratory rates to determine veracity. Similarly, “voice stress analysis” has been implemented. But the Stevens Institute scientists (who worked with an interdisciplinary team of linguists, psychologists and information technology engineers) believe that the standard polygraph and voice stress approaches have far too many variables and ‘outside influences’ that can adversely affect the accuracy of those machines and those that operate them.

The professors’ approach is far less open to such variables and influences. They and their team developed an algorithm based upon the Freudian notion that the truth always leaks out no matter how hard we attempt to cover it up- a phenomenon of course known as the “Freudian Slip.”

The technology does not require that an individual be “hooked up” in any way to any kind of machine. In fact, the individual does not even need to be alive to use the deception technology. By carefully and accurately transcribing into text the known and confirmed words of what a person has said on tape or in a video, the Stevens Institute technology is able to scrutinize and interpret their words in text form to determine if they are truthful.

THE WITNESS

In 1947, Major Jesse Marcel was stationed at Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF) as a Base Intelligence Officer. He was called by Chaves County Sheriff George Wilcox to respond to ranch foreman Mack Brazel’s visit to him about the discovery of strange debris discovered in a field on the JB Foster Ranch in early July of that year.

Major Marcel, when located in 1978, described seeing, handling and transporting very strange crash debris materials. Marcel said that some of the debris was very thin and light “metal with plastic properties.” He also described other odd material that was impervious to the heat of an applied torch and that would not dent or scratch even from the blows of a sledgehammer. Marcel also mentioned very strange “parchment” material and longer curved metal-like pieces. He said that this sky-fallen debris covered a very large area and that there appeared to have been an explosion in the air. He insisted it was not the debris from any kind of weather balloon or plane, that is was some sort of aircraft not of earth.

Here is a video of Major Marcel confessing to his ET debris discovery in one of his only televised appearances:

THE TRUTH

Dr Chandramouli provided this author use of the software to test for falsehood the testimony of Major Marcel. The conversion of key testimony by Marcel was transcribed and the results are in!

To the statement by Marcel:

“One thing that impressed us about the debris was the fact that a lot of it looked like parchment. It had little numbers with symbols that we had to call hieroglyphics because I could not understand them. They could not be read, they were just like symbols, something that meant something, and they were not all the same, but the same general pattern I would say.”

Dr. Chandramouli’s deceptive analysis results indicate: NORMAL, NO DECEPTION

To the statement by Marcel:

“This particular piece of metal was, I would say, about two feet long and perhaps a foot wide. See, that stuff weighs nothing, it’s so thin, it isn’t any thicker that the tinfoil in a pack of cigarettes. So I tried to bend the stuff, it wouldn’t bend. We even tried to make a dent in it with a 16 pound sledge hammer, and there was no dent in it.”

Dr. Chadramouli’s deceptive analysis results indicate: NORMAL, NO DECEPTION

To the statement by Marcel:

“There were small beams about three-eighths of a half inch square with some sort of hieroglyphics on them that nobody could decipher. These looked something like balsa-wood, and were about the same weight, except that they were not wood at all. They were very hard, although flexible, and would not burn.”

Dr. Chadramouli’s deceptive analysis results indicate: NORMAL, NO DECEPTION

CONCLUSIONS

The Stevens Institute technology analysis indicates with certainty that Major Marcel did indeed accurately relate in transcribed interviews the truth as he believed it to be:

Marcel said that there was a crash in the summer of 1947. The debris from that crash included varying types: 1) Parchment-like material with strange, indecipherable symbols 2) beams made of material that was like wood, but “not wood at all” that also had hieroglyphics and that, remarkably, would not burn and 3) unusually thin and unusually light metal-like material that would not even dent to the force of a pounding sledgehammer.

This author is continuing to work through the testimony of Major Marcel, as found in various interview transcripts and films to apply the psycholinguistic lie-catching technology. Comparison to other testimony (such as that of Officer Bill Rickett and Officer Sheridan Cavitt, who were also at the crash scene with Marcel) will be conducted as well and reported on at a later date.

I do not ascribe 100% certainty to anything. It is for this reason that I do not offer a “firm endorsement” of the findings of the Stevens Institute analysis. That qualified, I do believe that it is the best-available technology to ascertain honesty.

Half of writing history is hiding the truth. Hopefully technology will one day free us, at last, to uncover the truth, the whole truth, and to correct history.

Jesse Marcel - A Dispassionate Look
By Dr Kevin Randle
A Different Perspective
6-28-11

Kevin Randle     There has been, again, an assault on the integrity of Jesse Marcel, Sr., by one who has never served in the military and who seems to believe that if it didn’t appear in Marcel’s service record, then it must be a lie. Such simplistic thinking has, for too long, influenced both sides of the UFO question. In the real world there are shades of gray and we must remember that to understand much of what happens in UFOlogy we must be aware of that.

I thought that if we attempted a dispassionate look at Marcel, we might learn something. Oh, it’s not going to lead us to flying saucers and alien bodies, but it might teach us something about the case anyway.

Marcel, in discussing flying saucers (a term very much in use in 1947, though there are those who deny this) with his ham radio buddies in the late 1970s, said that he had picked up pieces of a flying saucer while he was stationed in Roswell (do I need to append New Mexico to this). It was just conversation among friends, but one of those friends was also a station manager in New Orleans who mentioned Marcel to Stan Friedman.

TONIGHT, FRIDAY JULY 2
The Joiner Report: Live From Roswell! Jesse Marcel & Dennis Balthaser with Host Frank Warren

Jesse Marcel & Dennis Balthaser on The Joiner Report
By Frank Warren
The UFO Chronicles
6-2810

In recognition of the upcoming 63rd anniversary of what has become known as The Roswell Incident, and corresponding festival in the city of the same name, I take great pride in announcing that my special guest for this week’s Joiner Report (Friday July 2nd) will be none other then Jesse Marcel Jr.

Jesse, like his father is a great American patriot: that said, no one could have predicted that after joining the Navy in 1962—42 years later he would be fighting in the Iraq War at the youthful age of 68!! Jesse in 2004 was called back to active duty; he flew over 225 hours as a flight surgeon for the 189th Attack Helicopter Battalion. He retired (again) as a full-bird Colonel.

The Roswell LegacyAlong with Jesse’s many accolades he has added “author” to the list; in 2007, after I wrote a review for his book, The Roswell Legacy, he explained to me that he had desired to write the book for some time, wanting to “set the record straight” in regards to not only his involvement and perception of what took place on the Foster Ranch in the summer of ‘47, but more importantly to give voice to his father and the actual facts as they happened. Being reminded of his mortality while in combat in Iraq, the book would soon come to fruition.

Anyone who has read my review knows that Jesse’s book didn’t disappoint and I highly recommend it! Jesse details his experience as not only the son of the first military officer present at the 1947 crash site, but as a witness and handler himself to some of the crash debris. He completes the tome by sharing his involvement in research up to present day and how The Roswell Incident has affected his life and that of his family.

This Friday’s show will be a special treat for me as I have the utmost respect for Jesse, and his father and am honored to be in his company; however, it doesn’t end there, as good friend and colleague, “Dennis Balthaser” will be on in the second half of the show.

Dennis is considered to be one of the top experts on The Roswell Incident, having moved to the town many years ago to pursue research. He is a popular, sought out speaker on the subject and along with his award winning web site, www.truthseekeratroswell.com he has appeared on numerous television and radio shows; as is the case every year during the Roswell festival, Dennis will be giving lectures over the long weekend; it’s with great appreciation that he has agreed to take time out of his busy schedule to join us this Friday night.

Dick D'Amato Unveiled as The Government Offical Who Met with Jesse Marcel Jr; Verifies Roswell Event & Government Cover-Up!

RAAF Captures Flying Saucer
Politicians Drop Hints: Roswell was ET

By Anthony Bragalia
The UFO Iconoclast(s)

Many politicians and office holders -especially today- are held in public disdain for their lies about so many things. But some rise above the rest as genuine public servants. They have spoken of the need for truth about the ultimate deceit- the coverup of fallen extraterrestrials at Roswell. A review of their telling statements and actions -and a newly uncovered revealing photo- show a deep concern about the event throughout the years. From Senators and DC insiders to U.S. Governors - up to the highest office- there have been those who are in power who wish to empower us with the knowledge that we are not alone in the Universe. They provide clues to the greatest secret: that craft and bodies from another world were made known to man many decades ago.

Of course the politician most closely associated with investigation into the crash is the late New Mexico US Congressman Steven Schiff. Schiff pressed the US GAO (General Accounting Office) to conduct an independent audit of any extant records or materials that the govenment may have had that related to the crash. Though he passed in 1998, his call to truth on Roswell continues to echo through the hintful voices of several prominent and valiant civil servants:

A US DOE CHIEF & US GOVERNOR: IN THE KNOW?

Bill RichardsonMulti-term US Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico was the former US Energy Secretary. He was also a former US Presidential Candidate. Most recently Richardson was offered a U.S. Cabinet role with the Obama Administration, though he declined. Popular and a populist, Richardson is an affable man that is personally liked by many on both sides of the aisle. Richardson arrived in New Mexico in the late 1970s when the first mentions of Roswell were rumbling. He is very serious about Roswell and is very candid when he says that the government continues to lie to the public about the incident. Richardson is surely privy to many things that many are not. He has carefully considered the history and evidence of Roswell. And he may well himself be privy to the ET nature of the event.

So compelled is Richardson on the subject that he even wrote the foreward to a book on the subject. Richardson has stated publicly that "it would help everyone if the U.S. Government disclosed everything it knows." He adds, "The American people can handle the truth." Richardson believes that "with full disclosure" that "we should be able to find out what happened that fateful day in July 1947." This is an extraordinary choice of words. He speaks of the crash at Roswell as a "fateful day." "Fateful" is variously defined as "momentous," "exceedingly important" or as "critical" in its significance. And indeed Roswell was.

Richardson is very direct about the matter. Curiously, even well after the USAF and GAO reports with its "official" balloon explanation were issued on Roswell, he saw fit to state: "the mystery surrounding this crash has never been adequately explained." He does not believe that official inquiries to date have told the real story to our nation's citizens about Roswell. And he encourages "our best scientific investigation" be brought to bear on the subject.

According to a 2007 AP news story, when Richardson was asked by a Dell employee in TX about Roswell, Richardson responded that he understands that "the data on Roswell remains classified" and that he was not happy about it. Not surprisingly, Richardson brought out the ire of sceptics when he came out on Roswell. Dave Thomas, skeptic of New Mexico Scientists for Reason, especially was upset, and made his "disappointment" in Richards known in public statements.

Given that Richardson reported directly to the President of the United States -and that he possessed Top Secret clearances of the highest order as head of the Department of Energy- he was uniquely positioned to know the precise nature of the Roswell event. He oversaw US DOE black research projects and the development of bleeding-edge technologies as well as having guided some of our national laboratories.

And as a decades-long resident of New Mexico, his interest in Roswell likely began early. This is especially true if he was so motivated as to write the forward to a book on the subject and to have made such stunning statements. And Richardson was there in New Mexico early on to hear from his constituents within the State about the matter when the Roswell event became more public in the late 1970s.

As Governor, he may well have been able to tap institutional memories, the testimony of old time politicos, and even may have perhaps viewed telling records within the State about the event. There is substantial evidence that the State was involved in the response to the crash through the reported involvement of the Lt. Governor at the time, Joseph Montoya. Combined with his high level role within a U.S. Presidential Administration- there can be no doubt that he knows something very significant about Roswell. And as a genuine public servant, Bill Richardson may well be trying to tell the public something very significant about Roswell.

ANOTHER NM GOVERNOR HINTS ABOUT ROSWELL REALITY

And still another New Mexico Governor, Gary Johnson, gave hints about the true nature of the Roswell crash. On June 22, 1997 on a local Albuquerque, NM evening broadcast program, Johnson indicated that Roswell was not ours, that he is privy to information that the general public is not- and that more than that he could not say. The next day his Press Secretary backpedaled was asked by a reporter about this and said that the Governor's comments were "not substantive" and issued no further comment. Again in 1997, Governor Johnson -speaking at Roswell about the event and the ET information coming out on it- was overheard to say: "Its all in there, except for a few facts."

THE DC INSIDER'S ROSWELL WARNING

Dick D'AmatoDick D'Amato (C. Richard D'Amato) is -by any standard- a classic "DC insider." He apparently also knows far more about what happened at Roswell than most in DC. After attending Cornell and the Fletcher School of Diplomacy, D'Amato earned his JD from Georgetown. He was a Professor at the US Naval Academy. Entering the world of politics, he rose quickly through various appointments. He served on many high-level US congressional advisory bodies (including on defense appropriations, national security and on international relations matters) and attained Top Secret clearances. He was named the Chief Counsel and Investigator to the US Senate Appropriations Committee. He later became National Security Specialist for Senate Majority Leader Robert Byrd and a liasion member of the National Security Council. Today a private consultant, D'Amato remains active in politics in Maryland.

Dr. Jesse Marcel Jr. has a strange story to tell about Dick D'Amato. Dr. Marcel is the namesake son of Major Jesse Marcel, Army Intelligence Officer who was the first to reveal the ET truth about Roswell. Dr. Marcel relates that in 1991 he received a call from D'Amato out of the blue. D'Amato knew that Marcel had planned to attend a meeting in D.C. He invited Marcel to meet with him to discuss the Roswell event in what D'Amato called a "Secure Room" at the Capitol. Dr. Marcel (who as a child himself saw some of the ET debris) told D'Amato that would not be necessary -he had already said all that he he knows- and that he was not going to say anything that he hadn't said before. But D'Amato explained to Marcel that the fact was that he himself wanted to relate to Marcel something important about the crash incident. Marcel agreed to meet. What would this DC insider tell him?

Marcel said that he was told to meet in the Capitol Building, Room 228. Marcel indicates that D'Amato greeted him warmly. Marcel then noticed something displayed in the room. D'Amato had prominently placed on his desk a book on Roswell that explained it as an ET event. D'Amato pointed to the book and told Marcel: "This is not fiction." Marcel replied that of course he knew it was not fiction. He then looked at D'Amato and directly asked: Why doesn't the government tell the people? D'Amato told Marcel "if it were up to him" he would, but that it is of course not up to him. He agreed with Marcel that the information needed be officially released.

D'Amato then told Marcel that he had known of instances where "people have been threatened" about their involvement in Roswell. He asked if Marcel himself had ever been threatened. When told that he had not, D'Amato offered assistance and protection Marcel if such a thing should ever occur.

It is known that D'Amato has had private discussions with select researchers where he has detailed that there is a black arm of secrecy over the subject- and that money is being secretly appropriated to projects related to Roswell. D'Amato indicates that he does not know where the wreckage is now, and that it is such a covert project that even with subpoena power he could not penetrate these operations.

THE US SENATOR AND THE CRASH

Barry GoldwaterBarry Goldwater was a multi-term US Senator and a former US Presidential Candidate. He was a retired and highly decorated Major General in the Air Force who had led highly classified US Senate intelligence and military committees over many years. Though known as "Mr. Conservative," Goldwater was someone who had a strong interest in Roswell and ET.

In 1994, not long before his death, Goldwater confessed something he knew to be definitive about Roswell and UFOs. He revealed to a worldwide audience on CNN: "I think at Wright Patterson, if you could get into certain places, you'll find that the government knows about UFOs." Asked specifically about Roswell, Goldwater replied, "Reportedly a spaceship landed." He then stunned host Larry King and added to this remark by declaring (as if he knew it personally): "It was all hushed up." King then asked if he tried to find out about it. Goldwater said that he most assuredly did.

And Goldwater was in a unique position to have found out. Goldwater was a highly decorated Command Pilot in the Army Air Force in the 1940s. He was very close to General Curtis LeMay, the Air Force's Chief of Development in the 1940s (including when the Roswell crash occurred.) He was also a friend of the Base Commander of Roswell Army Air Field at the time of the crash, Butch Blanchard (whom he knew through General LeMay.) Goldwater had heard much first-hand testimony about the Roswell crash. But now he wanted confirmation- to see the extraterrestrial himself.

Goldwater then told Larry King that some years later, he went to LeMay to discuss the matter. Possessing the highest of our nation's clearances, Goldwater sought permission to access the documentation and physical evidence of the crashed disc materials that he knew to exist at Wright, in what Goldwater has referred to as a "Blue Room." Goldwater recounted to King that he said to LeMay: "General, I know that we have a room at Wright where you put all the "secret stuff." Could I go there?" Goldwater continued his interview with King: "I've never heard LeMay get mad, but he got madder than hell at me, cussed me out and said 'Don't ever ask me that question again." Goldwater wanted to but never did.

OTHER POLITICIANS WHO SPOKE THE TRUTH

US Representative from Massachusetts William Delahunt replied to his constituent Robert F. Brown in 2005 in response to a letter from Brown about Roswell. He replied with a startlingly candid but brief comment: "After looking into the matter, I have found that the debris from that is still being analyzed and is not open to the public at this time." A US Congressmen from Virginia, Rep.Virgil Goode, told a Roswell researcher some years ago, "I have been reading about what you've been doing for a long time- a lot of us have. But you know, there's a group that really runs the show. Very shadowy. The US Congress is just window dressing."

Other such hints and confirmations about Roswell's importance have come from other politicians over the years. And even a two-time President of the United States and the current US Secretary of State have held deep personal and professional interest in resolving the Roswell mystery.

THE CLINTONS AND CLUES TO ROSWELL

Bill & Hillary
Many know that former President Bill Clinton had replied to a Belfast boy in 1995 when asked about Roswell, "Ryan, if the US Air Force did recover alien bodies, I want to know." Clinton certainly did "want to know," as did his wife former First Lady and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton:

- Found in the President Clinton's personal library inventory (taken by Ken Starr's impeachment investigators) was a copy of a book on the Roswell crash incident.

- John Podesta was Clinton's former Chief of Staff who later as a private citizen, organized the Coalition for Freedom of Information initiative in DC. This included a call for public disclosure about many issues, including UFOs. Mentioned specifically was a need to reveal all about Project Moon Dust and Operation Blue Fly. These projects are classified US military projects that relate to the retrieval of crashed flying objects requiring identification. Podesta obviously does not believe his own government has been forthcoming to the people on this vital matter. He states: "It is time for the government to de-classify records and provide scientists with data on the real nature of the phenomenon."

- Webster Hubbell, Clinton's former Associate Attorney General, was the third highest ranking member of the US Department of Justice. In his autobiography, Hubbell revealed that President Clinton held extreme interest in the subjects of UFOs and ET. Hubbell relates that Clinton distrusted many within government who would know the truth, as he sensed that they would hold back from him. Clinton decided to do his own covert Roswell investigation. He had asked Hubbell to make private approaches and inquiries and research to find out what really happened. Hubbell reported back to Clinton that, despite his best efforts, the subject was impenetrable.

- Laurance Rockefeller, world-famous industrialist, billionaire and prominent member of the political and philanthopic Rockefeller dynasty, was also a UFO researcher. He believed Roswell represented the crash of ET. He used his influence and ties to brief President Clinton's Science Advisor, Jack Gibbons, on the subject. In fact, Rockefeller briefed the First Lady herself, in person:

THE FIRST LADY CONSIDERS THE EXTRATERRESTRIAL: A TELLING PHOTO

In an incredibly revealing photo known now to exist (thanks to the eagle eyes of researchers including the noted investigator Grant Cameron) the world can see graphically what the ET question means to those in power. Pictured in a rare and little-circulated photo taken some years ago, we see Roswell-proponent Laurance Rockefeller and First Lady Hillary Clinton strolling through Rockefeller's sprawling ranch.

Blowups of this photo show that Mrs. Clinton (now the US Secretary of State) is holding a copy of the book "Are We Alone?" authored by awarded physicist Dr. Paul Davies. The back cover has been conclusively determined to match the back cover of Davies 1995 book. She no doubt knew that there was a photographer because other, posed photos show her walking with Rockefeller around the grounds. Was the First Lady trying to coyly provide a clue to the world that We Are Not Alone? Did she discuss her ET concerns with her husband, the President of the United States?

In this remarkable and deeply thought-provoking book (a copy of which I own) Davies examines the implications to society about the existence of intelligent life elsewhere in the Universe. Below is a photo showing the First Lady (who is interestingly wearing a stylized Holy Cross) drawing the ET book close to her as she reflects with Rockefeller:

WHAT THE CLINTONS MAKE CLEAR

The most telling thing is this: The Clintons were well aware that the very government that they led had already "determined" that the Roswell crash was that of a balloon. But the Clintons themselves did not believe this explanation. Instead, they took the quest to learn the truth on their own. In 1996, Sr. White House Correspondent Sarah McClendon reports that she had asked the President privately why he does not demand disclosure on the UFO subject. Echoing the thoughts of US Rep. Goode and DC insider Dick D'Amato, Clinton unguardedly replied, "There is a government inside the government, and I don't control it."

WHAT DC KNOWS AND DOES NOT KNOW

Though limited in what they can say, the brave in DC have spoken of Roswell as an event whose true nature has to be revealed the public. Some know more than others, but all believe that their constituents have not been told the truth about the matter. As shown, these government leaders include:

- Two US Governors

- A US Senate Chief Counsel and DC Insider

- A US Senator

- An Associate Attorney General

- A Presidential Chief of Staff

- Congressmen

- A US President and his First Lady

It is evident that these public servants believe that the implications of Roswell have the potential to fundamentally impact the very lives of all of us on this planet. They believe that the public has not been told the truth and that it is time to do so. They too know that Roswell was not a balloon. Though they know that it was fallen from the skies, they do not know from whence it came. And all of them have hoped that in their lifetimes they would find the answer. Perhaps some of them have.
