intelligence official and Special Agent In- Charge, Luis Elizondo, who confirmed the existence of the hidden government program, the controversial story was the focus of worldwide attention. Previously run by Elizondo, AATIP was created to research and investigate Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) including numerous videos of reported encounters, three of which were released to a shocked public in 2017. Elizondo resigned after expressing to the government that these UAPs could pose a major threat to our national security and not enough was being done to combat them or address our potential vulnerabilities. Now, as a part of HISTORY’s groundbreaking new six-part, one-hour limited series “Unidentified: Inside America’s UFO Investigation™,” Elizondo is speaking out for the first time with Tom DeLonge, co-founder and President of To The Stars Academy of Arts & Science and Chris Mellon, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense and Intelligence, to expose a series of startling encounters and embark on fascinating new investigations that will urge the public to ask questions and look for answers. From A+E Originals, DeLonge serves as executive producer.

‘Project Blue Book’ Meets with Mixed Reviews in the UFO Community

Sometimes It's Just Con vs. Con

The History Channel's effort to dust off Project Blue Book was met with mixed reviews in the UFO community. In this post we'll look a little deeper into wider implications than the current argument about a television show. In doing so, we find a UFO genre - and arguably American culture at large - which does not expect individuals to possess neither the skills nor inclination to think critically. What's more, this is a long time staple of ufology.

Pro vs. Con

Pro vs. Con

The argument about the dramatization of Blue Book files is basically split into two sides which hold opinions something like these:

Pro: The show is reaching a lot of people and increasing interest in the UFO topic.

Con: People will develop largely incorrect ideas about what took place during Blue Book because the show is not historically accurate on many important points.

Con vs. Con

While this writer leans towards the con argument of the two positions listed above, a larger point worth considering might be that we tend to doubt the public will know how or even care to establish historical facts. It largely seems that people are not expected to significantly differentiate between a for-profit film production made for entertainment and a for-profit film presented as a factual documentary. Maybe that's because there often isn't much difference. When it comes to UFO media, the cable TV show often isn't particularly any more fictional than the so-called documentary.

We might consider the same about activities called research projects and studies undertaken in the UFO genre. All too often, the hype these studies receive is short lived, and the actual work published - if published at all - turns out to be underwhelming. Given that's the case, it's not difficult to understand why the credibility of paperbacks with dubious tales about alleged alien hybrids seem easily confused with papers containing scientific jargon. They each lack rational conclusions while leaving readers confused. They're kind of the same thing. One's no more credible than the other, and all too frequently they're assigned credibility due to subject rather than expected to achieve credibility through content.

Research Ethics

Research Ethics

All of the above pretty much brings us to the topic of ethics in research. We frequently receive hearsay accounts of studies being conducted; academic research on UFOs; medial exams of witnesses; government agency work on UFOs, experiencers, and UFO debris; and many others. The list is long and winding. However, much less frequently are we provided details or even reasonably corroborating evidence of such projects.

Research ethics exist for several reasons, including protecting the health and safety of human research subjects. Another important reason is to protect the integrity of the research. If certain protocols and norms are not followed, which typically include disclosing funding entities, project personnel, methods, and outcomes, the value of the work is in question. It is the adherence to such industry standards, and presenting proposed projects to review boards and completed project reports for peer review, that entitles work to be labeled as credible. We should not be afraid to expect transparency and we should not be intimidated into not asking for it.

Lastly, the blurring of the lines between fact and fiction, professional research and role playing games, as seen in ufology, may indeed simply be an aspect of a much wider cultural dilemma. Perhaps we should be more concerned about people taking an interest in rational problem solving than UFOs.

‘Project Blue Book’ Is Based on a True UFO Story – Here It Is

‘Project Blue Book’ Is Based on a True UFO Story – Here It Is

Featuring a Russian spy murder, a self-immolation, gun-toting government thugs and other fanciful plot devices, “Project Blue Book,” History’s popular new series on the Air Force’s program to investigate and debunk U.F.O.s, is not your historian’s Project Blue Book.

The History series predictably sensationalizes and overdramatizes case investigations and the historical figures involved, adding many story elements that simply never happened. It’s already hard enough for those trying to understand the truth about government involvement with U.F.O.s without mixing fact and fiction. [Emphasis added]

The Real-Life Secret UFO Study Behind 'Project Blue Book' The New TV Series

The Real-Life Secret UFO Study Behind 'Project Blue Book' The New TV Series

In the 1950s and 1960s, the US Air Force secretly investigated more than 12,000 reports of unidentified flying objects. The findings on the vast majority of those sightings were uneventful: people misidentifying common objects like

planes, lights, birds, and comets; hoaxers looking to make a name for themselves; small towns succumbing to hysteria (okay, that one is kind of eventful). But 701 sightings still remain unidentified to this day.

Project Blue Book - Episode 1 Mangled By 'History' Channel

Project Blue Book

So on January 8 we finally saw the much-awaited first episode of Project Blue Book on the Channel that once showed History. It was expected to be sensationalized, and poorly-acted. Those things it was. Where it exceeded expectations, however, was in the degree that it distorted the facts of what was, in fact, a historical incident, freely mixing sensational but fictional elements with a classic UFO incident. Public discussions of this case will now be hopelessly polluted by the made-up elements that people will now firmly believe to be part of the actual story.

shows a woman who resembles Earhart and a man who appears to be her navigator, Fred Noonan, on a dock. The discovery is featured in a new History channel special, "Amelia Earhart: The Lost Evidence," that airs Sunday.

Independent analysts told History the photo appears legitimate and undoctored. Shawn Henry, former executive assistant director for the FBI and an NBC News analyst, has studied the photo and feels confident it shows the famed pilot and her navigator.

UFO Hunters: Stephenville Lights - Fumble!

UFO Hunters (THC)
By Mike Fortson
4-10-08

Mike Fortson (C Sml)     It's with great disgust that I write this.

As one who has witnessed the fantastic, I waited with great anticipation for the UFO Hunter's episode on the "Stephenville Lights" case. What I watched was a complete fumble of the "UFO football” . . . completely out of bounds, and just out of the stadium!

As an observer to an incredibly massive unidentified object myself, I understand the great importance of telling the story of the "Stephenville Lights" openly, truthfully, and with the best witnesses available; not by triangulating a weather balloon and comment, "now that looks like a UFO!" No, it's an IFO (identified flying object i.e., a weather balloon)!

Why do they continually redefine the term, ”UFO” as an alien craft? An “unidentified aerial object” until determined otherwise, is just that, i.e., a UFO . . . not necessarily alien—period! They continually say, "that might be a UFO!". Well, if it cannot be identified at the time, it IS a UFO! Most likely not alien, but at that time, “not identified.”

I really wish the word or term UFO would just go away.

My question here is, "why did they not get the most important witnesses to this case on the show?" Where was Rick Sorrells? He has witnessed the large craft several times. Including once while deer hunting on his property in daytime! He described the massive object while looking thru his scope on his rifle! Where is this interview? Where is Steve Allen's interview? He's a licensed pilot and witnessed the lights/object first hand. Where is his interview? Where is the Angelia Joiner interview? She's the reporter who first broke the story. Why wasn't she interviewed? There are also three police officers who witnessed the large craft.... calling it a massive craft...where is that interview?

Instead the UFO Hunter's claim to have a "never-seen-before video" from Mr. Dave Coran. Except that video first was seen on the Internet on March 5, 2008. What gives here? Where is the investigating? Where is the truth?

There was a part of this so-called investigation that was intriguing.... a video of a beam of light that failed to touch the ground. Wow! Are you kidding? Now here's something incredibly unusual. Now the question is this.... did their so-called scientist try to recreate this weird incident? No. Why not? Could it be that this is known to be "highly unusual" and they knew it could not be duplicated by their pseudo-science?

So, in my eyes they failed to get the most important witnesses. They failed to explain how a beam of light that stopped short of touching the ground could happen. Instead they launched a weather balloon and claimed it to look like a UfO.

I have but one thing to say to the UFO Hunters.... PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE...stay away from the "Massive UFO Flyover of Arizona, March 13, 1997".

The Truth is in a TV Appearance for UFO Detective

Gary Heseltine Cropped (Frmd)
By Wakefield Express
2-22-08

FIGHTING crime and watching the sky for extra terrestrial visitors is all in a day's work for one Wakefield detective.

And now Det Con Gary Heseltine has shared his knowledge of all things alien by filming for a major international documentary about UFO sightings for the History Channel and another British programme about police officers and UFOs.

Determined to prove the truth really is out there, Mr Heseltine of Ashdene, Crofton, has been cataloguing UFO sightings for more than 30 years and even set up his own online publication before joining the national UFO Data magazine late last year.

As one of the UK's leading and most respected authorities on the subject, the film crews jumped at the chance to sign him up.

He said: "The first is for a forthcoming series by the USA's History Channel called UFO Hunters, due for airing in May. I've worked on documentaries over the years, but never on an international one and it was quite novel having an 11-person film crew crammed into my house in Crofton.

"The second programme is for the UFO Files, who wanted to get in touch with police officers who have had sightings, which was great too."

Mr Heseltine created the Police Reporting UFO Sightings (PRUFOS) database in 2001, which made him the ideal person to put the film crews in touch with officers who have had close encounters.

And the latest PRUFOS results are set to be published later this month with some interesting sightings set to whet the appetites of sky-watchers everywhere, especially in the Merrie City.

He said: "It needs more confirmation, but I've been made aware of a Crofton sighting. It involves a retired police officer and relates back to the 1970s where three glowing orbs were seen moving towards an area known locally as the Lump.

"He thought it was the front lights of a plane, but quickly realised there was no noise.

"They came within 100 yards of him – then, with a burst of acceleration, they were gone.

"I'd say 95 per cent of sightings turn out to be mundane and not UFOs.
"But it's that other five per cent that I focus on."
