The Akron Beacon Journal 11-1-1954

Mysterious, long strands of fiber were picked from bushes and trees here by two teachers who said the 3-mile trail was left by a "cigar-shaped aircraft. They said their hands temporarily turned green after touching the strands.

Their story about the strange aircraft, also reported seen by 60 children here, was similar to reports in California, France and New Guinea in the past two years.

“I was in Olympia and it was early morning. I got coffee through the drive-through and parked in the parking lot,” he said in a phone interview Monday night. “At first I thought it was a banner that planes fly around. But then I noticed there was no plane and it was hovering there. It twirled a couple times and went straight up in the clouds. I got a phone call and looked away for second and then looked back and it was gone.”

A Georgia witness at Canton reported watching and photographing two cigar-shaped UFOs that seemed to be attached by “a small tubular connection,” according to testimony in Case 61365 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was outside on a driveway and about to walk inside on November 6, 2014, when the object was first seen.

“I looked to my right facing southeast to see if my horses were in their stalls,” the witness stated. “I then noticed something rather odd flying above the barn as the sky was clear and not cloudy and still broad daylight. The object was flying in an odd sort of way, not like any aircraft I am aware of would or could fly.”

The witness described the object.

“It was shimmering. It appeared to be glowing. It had no wings and it looked like two silver cigar shapes attached together by a smaller tubular connection.” . . .

Tennessee Mother & Daughter Report Odd Activity Watching Cigar UFO

By Roger Marsh
The Examiner
4-24-13

A Cleveland, TN, mother and 15-year-old daughter reported a series of strange events while they observed a cigar-shaped UFO "floating silently above the tree line" beginning about 7:45 p.m. on April 23, 2013, according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The two were outside playing badminton when the object was first seen.

"I looked up and thought I saw a plane, when it really turned out to be a cigar-looking, white object floating silently above the tree line," the reporting witness stated. "I pointed it out to my daughter, who for some reason didn't take it seriously. I found this weird."

The woman kept watching the object while she played.

"It was going southwest and then suddenly I noticed it was going north. Throughout the duration of this time, I was constantly looking back and forth (quite often) and when I looked up after it turned north, I realized it had disappeared." . . .

Hometown History: UFO Sighting Never Fully Explained

UFO Over Mainstreet La Crosse Wisconsin
By La Crosse Tribune
3-17-08

Was it a bird? Was it a plane? No, wait, planes had not been invented yet. So what was it that La Crosse residents saw in the evening skies of April 10-11, 1897?

Most of the country, from California to Michigan, was asking the same question after a mysterious bright light, which reportedly could move in several different directions, became visible at various times in the western two-thirds of the country.

The most popular explanation of the time was that the mysterious light was an “airship” equipped with electric lights and some kind of searchlight. One person in La Crosse who observed the light through opera glasses reported seeing an oblong object suspended from the light. This had been reported in other parts of the country as well, with the yet-to-be-famous UFO parlance of “cigar-shaped” being the most-often-used description.

The sightings elicited much speculation and wonder, as well as a number of hoaxes and exaggerations, but no fear or panic. The event was even put to commercial use as a number of La Crosse drinking establishments began offering various concoctions known as The Airship.

It’s interesting to note that the vast majority of people considered the mysterious light to be man-made in origin. In a letter to the La Crosse Daily Press, one person thought the object was from Mars, or some other planet, stating that the “occupants may be studying the life of our planet, as we would like to study the life and inhabitants of others, if we were wise enough or well enough versed in science to reach them.” This person’s theory was deemed to be extremely odd by the newspaper, although 50 years later it would prove to be popular during the UFO craze of the 1940s and 1950s.

This “light” that was observed across most of the country was never fully explained. Reliable airship flights were only three to five years away, but the fact this light was observed at the same time in places hundreds of miles apart would seem to indicate the mysterious object was more celestial in nature.
