NASA Responds in How To 'Destigmatize' Their UFO Research

Illustration of NASA and UFOs by www.theufochronicles.com

"... by holding public meetings such as this one, and having open conversations about findings, then we’re helping to normalize discussions again. And that really goes arm-in-arm with our commitment to openness and transparency with the public. And then finally, in terms of collaborating across the government, we’re working very closely with other government agencies, not least Sean’s office, AARO, to broaden the scope and the depth of our study. And I honestly believe that this collective inter-agency approach will lend credibility to the study of UAPs, and it’s going to demonstrate the seriousness with which we’re approaching this issue."

In October of last year (2022), following in the footsteps of the Pentagon, NASA announced plans for their own independent study/investigation of UAP/UFOs and listed the names of 16 “… of the world's leading scientists, data and artificial intelligence practitioners [and] aerospace safety experts” that would be the independent study team. Their specific charge “… is to tell us how to apply the full focus of science and data to UAP.” They further stated:

The independent study will begin on Monday, Oct. 24. Over the course of nine months, the independent study team will lay the groundwork for future study on the nature of UAPs for NASA and other organizations. To do this, the team will identify how data gathered by civilian government entities, commercial data, and data from other sources can potentially be analyzed to shed light on UAPs. It will then recommend a roadmap for potential UAP data analysis by the agency going forward. The study will focus solely on unclassified data. A full report containing the team’s findings will be released to the public in mid-2023. “Exploring the unknown in space and the atmosphere is at the heart of who we are at NASA,” said Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator of the Science.

On May 31st (2023) NASA held its first, lengthy public, live-streamed meeting chaired by David Spergel Ph.D., and all the panel members in tow. After various presentations, towards the end of conference it was time for the Q & A session. Questions were submitted to NASA from the public leading up to the meeting. One question posited was:

What are you doing to solve the stigmatization surrounding the study of UAP?

The dialogue went as follows:

Karlin Toner (03:29:53): I can take that one

Karen Fox (03:29:55): And state your name if you wouldn’t mind. First.

Karlin Toner (03:29:57): Karlin Toner, FAA.

Karlin Toner (03:30:01): I think the fact that NASA has called us together here as a panel to look into this, that NASA is hosting a public meeting, that we’ve heard it clearly stated, we’re here to be transparent. I think that’s the first step in trying to really normalize the study of UAPs.

(03:30:20) And we talked a little bit earlier about the reporting, about how to make it credible. And we talked also about UAP in one of the earlier talks this morning, of the definition of the A, whether it was a aerial or anomalous, as the legislation now is. And really the distinction beyond UFOs, right? When we’re looking at UAPs here, we’re beyond just airplanes, we’re looking at all types of anomalous phenomena. And so that’s just a more inclusive term there.

Mike Gold (03:30:57):Yeah, still Michael. Just wanted to emphasize what Karlin said, which is so accurate. I really consider it quite amazing that we’re here having this discussion as the leadership. It serves great kudos for this. And beyond, I think a recommendation that I’d like to make is that NASA participate in symposia, in panels, sponsor research. When you have the NASA logo, on that sponsored research, on the discussion, it really helps normalize and push back against the stigma.

(03:31:27) I think NASA can leverage its excellent reputation, both domestically and abroad, to help push back on that stigma. And I think it’s important to do so, not just for science and discovery, but for national security, that we’ve all seen what’s occurred with balloons from rival nations. We don’t want this stigma to be a vulnerability that rival nations can take advantage of.

Karen Fox (03:31:48):Yes, Dan?

Dan Evans (03:31:49): Thanks, Karen. Just a few additional points from the agency perspective, we are of course taking a set of actions to effectively normalize the study of UAP. So that involves collaborating across the government, encouraging an open dialogue, and promoting rigorous scientific inquiry. Let me turn to each of those in turn.

(03:32:11) So in terms of promoting a rigorous scientific inquiry, the primary way we’re doing this is by being truly rigorous and employing an evidence-based methodology in everything that we do. That is characteristic of scientific research. It’s no accident that the people up on this stage are true experts in their respective fields. So that is, in turn, going to help us to legitimize UAP studies.

(03:32:42) Encouraging open dialogue. So by holding public meetings such as this one, and having open conversations about findings, then we’re helping to normalize discussions again. And that really goes arm-in-arm with our commitment to openness and transparency with the public. And then finally, in terms of collaborating across the government, we’re working very closely with other government agencies, not least Sean’s office, AARO, to broaden the scope and the depth of our study. And I honestly believe that this collective inter-agency approach will lend credibility to the study of UAPs, and it’s going to demonstrate the seriousness with which we’re approaching this issue. Thanks.

Clinton Echoes President Ronald Reagan’s Alien Invasion Speech

By Frank Warren

During football’s preseason last year I made a prediction that the Seattle Seahawks would not only make it to the Super Bowl, but they’d win it! Throughout the season I would remind my wife of that prophecy, and told her, remember—“you heard it here first!” She laughed . . . right up until the 49er’s game that is, then she thought I might be on to something and of course the rest is history.

Thursday morning I made another prediction—no sixth sense required and that was that the video interview of former President Bill Clinton by late night talk show host, Jimmy Kimmel (via the formers’ appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Wednesday night [4-2-14]) would soon go viral.

Why you ask? Although Bill Clinton is no stranger to the UFO topic, he hit all the UFO cylinders Wednesday night, traversing through “secret UFO files”, “Area 51,” “Roswell,” “aliens,” and something that rang familiar to me which was an (or the) alien invasion scenario.

On September 21, 1987 then President Ronald Wilson Reagan addressed the Forty-second Session of the United Nations General Assembly and in part stated:
“I occasionally think how quickly our differences worldwide would vanish if we were facing an alien threat from outside of this world.”
Like Clinton, this was not the first time he talked aliens and specifically an “alien invasion.”

Curiously, in a very similar narrative, Clinton relayed to Kimmel:
“If we were visited some day, I wouldn't be surprised; I just hope that eh . . . it's not like Independence Day. That it's uh . . . you know uh, a conflict. It may be the only way to unite this incredibly divided world of ours. They're out there we better . . .. Think of how all the differences among people on earth would seem small if we felt threatened by a space invader, that's the whole theory of Independence Day; everybody gets together and makes nice . . ..”

Of course Clinton wasn’t sitting in a formal newsroom, with a sober news anchor asking serious questions. As one might surmise—for those that haven’t seen the video, the discourse was light-hearted and had quips threaded throughout. That said, Clinton did make point of fact statements re his actions pertaining to UFOs during his tenure at the White House and talk of the revelations are rippling through the mainstream media & social media alike. UFO enthusiasts are giddy and self-proclaimed skeptics are taking aim.

Did Colonel Philip J. Corso Lie About His Tenure With The NSC? (Redux)

The late Col. Philip J. Corso who was the foundation as well as co-author of the book, “The Day After Roswell” continues to evoke controversy even from the grave.

When Corso’s book was initially published it was applauded by most in the UFO community mainly because of his stature, and his accredited military career; he was an insider breaking silence, and perhaps the smoking gun to finally force the powers-that-be into sharing UFO information with the public.

As Carl Sagan once said, “extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.” As protocol dictates, Ufologists quickly began to investigate Corso’s declarations.

As with Ufology is to the layman, Corso’s claims were to Ufologists; most just couldn’t swallow these grandiose affirmations; soon many well-known Ufologists would begin to chip away at the base of Corso’s anecdotes.

Personally, and admittedly Corso wasn’t “my cup of tea” so to speak, and I adhered to the mind-sets of colleagues I respected/respect after a good amount of research/investigation had taken place.

Years later I filed a FOIA request for Corso’s military records for one of the afore mentioned colleagues, and upon arrival was surprised to see the magnitude of his file as well as the many commendations, awards, etc., in addition to time served. I was also impressed with his involvement and contributions to the POW/MIA proceedings along with his many years in military intelligence. That said, I found myself questioning why a man with such an impeccable record would lie about anything; in essence the accusations (him being a charlatan) certainly didn’t fit the mold of the man whose military file I held in my hand.

Many critics of the book, “The Day After Roswell” have succumbed to labeling Corso an out an out liar; much of that begins with Corso’s edict that he was a “staff member of the National Security Council (NSC)” during the Eisenhower administration. The focus here will be on that statement.

Recently the NSC narrative has resurfaced and it would appear that the majority (in Ufology) feels that Corso, at the very least “exaggerated his tenure with the NSC,” or point blank lied bout it. The common ground as evidenced in his military file is that he was indeed employed by the Operations Coordinating Board (OCB), via Army Intelligence.

Earlier I published the cover sheet as well as the table of contents from the “Hearings Before The Senate Select Committee On POW/MIA Affairs dated Nov. 10th, 11th, 1992. In it under “statements of,” Corso was labeled “National Security Council Staff, Eisenhower Administration.”

Congressional Doc Shows Corso as NSC Staff

For those that hold Corso in contempt, the majority in response to that “legal document” was that “he provided his own “bio” and that was just an extension of facade. This of course is certainly possible, as Corso “was known” in particular with POW/MIA affairs and there wouldn’t have any need to do a formal investigation into his background prior to making a statement before the committee.

In a statement before “The House Subcommittee on Military Personnel” on September 17, 1996 Corso acknowledged, “Upon my return to the United States, I was assigned to the Operations Coordinating Board (OCB) of the White House, “National Security Council,” [emphasis added] and handled virtually all projects to U.S. prisoners of war.”

To be clear, the “National Security Council (NCS) was borne via “The National Security Act of July 26, 1947”, during the Truman administration; its core members were the President, the Secretaries of State, Defense, Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Chairman of the National Security Resources Board; however, as is so common with government bodies it would evolve.

Truman's NSC was subjugated by the Department of State, but when the reins were handed to Ike, it became molded after a more militaristic system, and it blossomed into a very large departmental organization. The OCB was in fact part of that organization, and aside from Corso’s self-description, government agencies as well as collateral documents seem to support this fact.

Here is a paragraph from an FBI memo dated, Feb. 11th, 1965 concerning Corso:

FBI Snippett

As evidenced here the FBI describes Corso as, “then assigned to the Operations Coordinating Board, National Security Council.”

In addition to that in the “History of the National Security Council, 1947-1997” at the "White House’s web-site,” the OCB is described as such:
President Eisenhower created the Operations Coordinating Board (OCB) to follow up on all NSC decisions. The OCB met regularly on Wednesday afternoons at the Department of State, and was composed of the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Deputy Secretary of Defense, the Directors of CIA, USIA, and ICA, and the Special Assistants to the President for National Security Affairs and Security Operations Coordination.

"The OCB was the coordinating and implementing arm of the NSC for all aspects of the implementation of national security policy."

NSC action papers were assigned to a team from the OCB for follow-up. More than 40 interagency working groups were established with experts for various countries and subjects. This 24-person staff of the OCB supported these working groups in which officials from various agencies met each other for the first time.

Towards the end of the 1950’s the NSC was called, the “NSC system,” and came under review by the “Senate Subcommittee on National Policy Machinery” because of alleged inefficiencies due to the size, inflexibility, overstaffing and being weighed down by committees etc.

Former Truman administration officials such as George Kennan, Paul Nitze, and Robert Lovett testified that “the ‘NSC was a huge committee," [emphasis added] and suffered from all the weaknesses of committees. Composed of representatives of many agencies, its members were not free to adopt the broad, statesmanlike attitude desired by the President, but, rather, were ambassadors of their own departments, clinging to departmental rather than national views.”

Did Corso ever lay claim to being one of the original members of the NSC? No! Did he deny being in the OCB? No! Was the OCB part of the NSC? Yes? Did Corso take liberties in stating his tenure with the NSC, while not mentioning the OCB? Although it will be argued, since he has lumped the two together as well as not, in my view no!

I think this is a clear case of I say, “tow-may-tow” and you say, “tow-mah-tow.” I believe during Eisenhower’s reign, the NSC had evolved into a large confederation, and many, although not part of the “core council” (as in Truman’s era) considered themselves part of the NSC, and as described in the” History of the National Security Council, 1947-1997” at the White House’s web-site, the “NSC system.”

Finally, as is often the case there will be those that will look at what is presented, and it won’t matter, as “their minds are made up,” but clearly, in my view, Corso could righteously say he was a member of the NSC; this is a non-issue.

The irony of it all is that the NSC statement and all the hub-bub sits along side the other declarations about being on the receiving end of technology from another world.

Editor's Note-March 13th is the anniversary of one of the most significant UFO events in history; The UFO Chronicles will underscore the event with various articles both past and present, throughout the month-FW

- EXCLUSIVE -
Interview With Mike Fortson - Eye Witness To Enormous V-Shaped UFO - AKA "The Phoenix Lights"

Mike Fortson (Sml)     FW: Thank you Mike for agreeing to do this interview and being one of the first participants in the latest addition to our "Knowledge is Power" web-site i.e., "the interview section."

In our private correspondence you certainly have convinced me of the "gravity" of what has erroneously become known as the Phoenix Lights; that title certainly doesn't represent what occurred on March 13th, 1997.

In any event, why don't we start by informing the readers of who Mike Fortson is . . . give us some background.

MF: I was born February 24, 1953, in Hertfordshire, UK. My parents are both Americans from Indiana. My father was a staff sergeant in the USAF stationed in London. I spent the first 18 months of my life in England, then Georgia for 5 years or so. Then in 1959 we moved to Kokomo, Indiana where I spent the next 16 years.

I graduated high school in 1971 and unfortunately my lottery number for the draft (Viet Nam) was under 60 and I was headed into the military. Lucky for me my test scores were high enough that the US Navy took me with a 4 year enlistment. During boot camp I was asked if I would be interested in the USN Ceremonial Guard in Washington, D.C. I said, “yes”. I spent my entire Navy career (4 years) in DC doing military funerals in Arlington National, state dinners at the White House, participated in full honor arrivals for foreign heads of state. Highlights included; Nixon’s inauguration, funerals for Presidents Johnson and Truman. I participated in over 1500 military funerals in Arlington National. I had a White House security clearance.

In June of 1972, I married my high school sweetheart. We have now been married for over 34 years. We have 3 sons, now aged 29, 30 and 32. Along with that comes the grand kids; twin girls 11, another grand daughter 8, 7, and my only grandson, 5 months.

I have been in sales since I got out of the Navy in 1975. In 1979 the auto recession pushed us out of Indiana and we were part of the rush to Texas. I worked in the oilfields until 1986. When oil dropped to $6 a barrel and we loaded up again and moved to Arizona. I now sell real estate in Prescott Valley, Arizona. . . .

- EXCLUSIVE -
Interview With Mike Fortson - Eye Witness To Enormous V-Shaped UFO - AKA "The Phoenix Lights" (Part II)

FW: Mike we left off in "Part I" of this interview at the end of your narrative describing what you refer to as "your life-changing event," i.e., the sighting of a "huge" V-Shaped craft by you and your wife known as the "Phoenix Lights." This taking place almost ten years ago March 13, 1997.

I would like to begin the very next day, but first given what is now known about that night, calling it the "Phoenix Lights" certainly isn't accurate, to put it mildly; where and how did that name originate?

Mike Fortson (B)MF: Frank, that’s a really good question, and I don’t know if I have the right answer. I think several people will take the credit for the name, “Phoenix Lights”. The massive sighting occurred Thursday evening March 13, 1997. After I reported it to MUFONAZ, I was asked to be at Village Labs in Tempe, AZ., on Sunday March 16. There the “Strange Universe” crew met with us and videotaped our experience. I think the term was first used then. However, a few others may claim the term, I’m just not sure. Another, which I thought was first, was a producer from MSNBC. One fact does remain…I have argued this title since it’s creation as inaccurate. What was seen that night was witnessed nearly all over the state of Arizona. Today I equate the term “Phoenix Lights” to the 5 videos of a diversionary flare drop around 10 PM that night. These more than likely flares were dropped at around 16,000’ foot altitude and witnessed by a few people in Phoenix metro area. These “lights” weren’t over Phoenix. And truthfully, they weren’t even over Maricopa county. But the descriptive name for March 13th will forever be “Phoenix Lights”. Sad but true.

I do agree with the late Doc Barry; “The Massive UFO Flyover of Arizona March 13, 1997”, is the most accurate way to describe that wonderful night. . . .

- EXCLUSIVE -
Interview III With Mike Fortson - Eye Witness To Enormous V-Shaped UFO - AKA "The Phoenix Lights"

FW: Mike we left off in "part II" of our interview retracing your movements shortly after your life changing experience; you mentioned Dr. Bruce Maccabee's arrival in Phoenix, as well as the first meet at the "Village Labs" . . . let's begin there.

Previously you wrote:
Those present at the first get together at Village Labs on March 16, 1997 were: Jim Dellitoso (sp), Michael Tanner (both of Village Labs), Bill Hamilton (MUFONAZ), Tom King (shot 10 PM video from Steve Blonder’s home with Bill Hamilton), Richard Motzer, Tom Taylor (Both with MUFONAZ), Scott Montgomery and his wife (he shot video of F15’s chasing the orbs), Ozma Linderman and her boyfriend, both are 8:25 witnesses from Scottsdale), Mike Krysten and his wife Sue (he shot the famous footage at 10 PM), Mike Fortson and wife Nannette (8:30 PM witnesses), there were a couple radio people there, and Strange Universe filmed the entire meeting. There were probably others but my memory fails as this was nearly 10 years ago as to the rest of the visitors. MUFONAZ had acquired 4 or 5 videos and they were played for us. That’s when I stood up and said, “that’s not what we saw!”.

Village Labs
Can you elaborate a little more for our readers about the Montgomery's sighting of the F-15 pursuit of "the orbs?"

Mike Fortson (C)MF: Gladly. First of all I need to try to clarify which type of fighter jets Luke AFB sent up that night. Luke Air Force Base is located near Glendale AZ., and is home to the 56th Fighter Wing and is a training site for the F16 Fighting Falcons. From the very beginning there have been questions as to which fighters went up to investigate the strange aerial objects reported that evening. Were they F16’s or F15’s? It is true that the training fighters are the F16. But, it has been reported that there are at least 2 F-15’s on base for “special reasons”. Although it is not proven, it has been suggested very strongly that the fighters that pursued the enormous V shaped craft were F-15’s.

I met Scott Montgomery for the first time at Village Labs on March 16, 1997. As I wrote earlier, this was the first meeting of those witnesses who made the early calls to speak of their sightings. There were a variety of videos that were played. The "5" 10 PM videos, the only known 8:25 PM video, and Scott Montgomery’s video. One that I really found interesting and got a real kick from was Scott’s video which he shot in the late evening on March 13, 1997, from his home near Goodyear, AZ., which is west of Phoenix about 35 miles or so and much closer to Luke AFB than any of the other videos. Scott’s video by professional standards is a terrible video. He did not use a tripod. But, in my opinion, it isn’t what is recorded on the video of Scott’s film that is so interesting, but the audio. Scott was filming strange orange “orbs” that were being chased by fighter jets (2) either F-15’s or F-16’s. The major issue the so-called UFO investigators disliked about Scott’s video is he never stayed with one object. He kept going from the jets to the orbs…back to the jets….back to the orbs, etc. This was constant and really not that good of a video. But what the investigators failed to do was listen to what Scott was saying while filming. They failed to hear the immense excitement in his voice. This young man was incredibly excited over what he was seeing/filming. He was trying to get all this while looking thru the viewfinder. He didn’t have the luxury of using the pull out window of today’s video cameras. Remember this was 1997. In his defense, it is very hard to film such an impossible sighting while trying not to lose important observation time. The video is moot. The audio will better help explain the adrenaline rush one gets during such an extraordinary sighting. Truth is Scott’s video is better understood with your eyes closed. Just listen to what he’s screaming while filming.

Scott Montgomery and his wife are not mentioned in any reports by any investigators, nor have they been interviewed by any media outlet; because of his age and his poor video, Scott’s sighting is not to be found anywhere and is treated by the so-called investigators as if it did not happen. In my opinion this is a shame, because Scott’s excitement and the way he was trying to describe what he was seeing/recording is the real important factor here. I still smile when I think of his video. If you would be fortunate enough to see it, (hear it) you also would get a “kick” out of it. If anything humorous was to be written about of the incredibly strange sightings of March 13, 1997, Scott’s video wins first place. . . .

VIDCAST: Dr Bruce Maccabee Reiterates, ". . . The Lights at Ten O'Clock were Flares – THE PHOENIX LIGHTS 15th ANNIVERSARY

F-16 Dropping Flares

Good friend and colleague Mike Fortson ( as well as a regular contributor here at TUFOC) was the special guest this last Saturday night on "ATS Live," (Broadcast live from Roswell, New Mexico no less–via KCKN and from Miami by WLVJ, as well
By Frank Warren
The UFO Chronicles
3-12-12
as various internet venues and Global Star: Galaxy 19 - Star 5) for their 100th show. The co-hosts being cognizant of the upcoming 15th anniversary (tomorrow the 13th) of what is known as "The Phoenix Lights," one of the most significant UFO events in history invited Mike to be on, knowing that not only was/is he a witness, but he is also one of the most knowledgeable individuals alive regarding the events that occurred that night 15 years ago tomorrow.

When I'm asked about Mike Fortson, the first words out of my mouth are that he has "encyclopedic knowledge" concerning said activity which took place over the skies in the grand state of Arizona (and elsewhere) on March 13th, 1997 . As usual he did not disappoint, given the reactions by the co-hosts and staff at ATS, as well as from the feedback from (ATS) forum members and listeners in general.

Although Mike's excellent rapport and extensive knowledge made for a great show, there were some added bonuses. The first pleasant surprise was that former city-council-woman and Phoenix Lights activist, Frances Emma Barwood called into the show. She shared her insight regarding former Governor Fife Symington's negative actions pertaining to the Phoenix Lights then, as well as his much later public reversal and claim to have witnessed the large craft (UFO) himself.

If that wasn't enough, the very next caller was long time Ufologist and optical physicist, Dr Bruce Maccabee. Coincidentally, I had interviewed, Mike, Frances and Bruce (together) 2 years ago while sitting in for friend and colleague Angelia Joiner and her show, "The Joiner Report."

Like Bruce did with me, he did again Saturday night, and that was to make clear his views on the lights (flares) video taped at 10:00 pm and the UFO activity which occurred between 8:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Most UFO mavens and enthusiasts alike are aware that Bruce Maccabee performed extensive analysis on some of the videos shot at 10:00 pm, of the lights (flares) originally thought to be stationary and over Phoenix proper; although he wasn't the first, his work (re)affirmed that the lights were neither stationary nor over Phoenix as it seemingly appeared (and coincided with those before him, beginning with Richard Motzer's investigation & report).

Sadly the subterfuge that began in 1997 by the very existence of the flare videos being melded into the de facto UFO events still exists today. Mike Fortson is one who believes that the flare drop was an intentional diversionary tactic, if this is true, then it has worked brilliantly.

Regardless of deliberate deception or not, as was concluded by MUFON investigator, Richard Motzer in his report in May of 1997, and reiterated by Bruce Maccabee two days ago:"The Lights at Ten O'Clock were Flares; The Real UFO Business was Between Eight and Nine PM."

ABC News Interviews Jacobsen's Secret Source; is Latest Roswell Story Debunked?

By Frank Warren

Unless you’ve been spelunking, in a coma (god forbid), or de void of any and or all “news input,” undoubtedly you’ve heard of Annie Jacobsen’s new book: Area 51: An Uncensored History of America's Top Secret Military Base (New York: Little, Brown & Co. 2011). It’s almost impossible to turn on the television, or peruse the net and not find some mention of her and her tome.

In it, via her “last chapter,” she throws a wrench into the traditional “alien” Roswell crash scenario, claiming allegations from a undisclosed elderly source, with impeccable credentials; that “elements” of the Roswell story were indeed true; however, her source claims, that they were not aliens, but made to look like such, and this was all done for Machiavellian purposes–by no other then Russia, teamed up Nazi madman, Dr. Joseph Mengele. (Did I mention the book is NONFICTION?!)

Jacobsen claims her source stated, that Mengele performed “unspeakable experimental surgical procedures, mostly on children, dwarfs and twins” and a select few of these unfortunates were chosen for a plan to induce another “War of The Worlds” type scare of 1938 on its soon to be cold-war enemy–the United States! .

Furthermore, the alleged “alien craft” was in fact a “Horten brother’s flying disc,” claims the source, with the child mutant occupants inside and that it was flown thousands of miles by remote control to crash in New Mexico.

UFO researchers and enthusiasts alike immediately condemned the book and its thesis for a host of reasons. Personally, for me I was intrigued by her witness(es) who reinforced what “Roswell witnesses” have stated along, e.g., exotic craft crashed, there were small childlike bodies with big heads, eye etc., and there was an immediately retrieval and post cover-up!

Moreover, if one pays close attention: in her book, she indicates that this is what the engineers “were told” (says her source) and that the unusual child-like occupants were “rumored” to be products of Mengele. In other words her source recounted things he witnessed “first hand” and things that he and his co-workers were told (very important to discern the two).

Some have argued that Jacobsen’s claims have made the alien scenario look pale in comparison (I agree); although there have been “general” refutations to her position, no one could deconstruct the “un-named sources” claims for the obvious reason(s) . . . that is until now.

ABC News, through their own investigation claims to have found Jacobsen’s “secret source,” (and they're not naming him either) and in interviewing him have uncovered some major discrepancies. Watch the video below:

UFOs & Nukes | Former Capt. Bob Salas & Colonel Dwynne Arneson (Ret) On The Joiner Report with Host Frank Warren—TONIGHT—

Bob Salas & Colonel Dwynne Arneson (Ret) on The Joiner Report with Host Frank Warren

Former Capt. Bob Salas & Colonel Dwynne Arneson (Ret) will stop by The Joiner Report tomorrow night, Friday November 12th, 2010 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM PST (Salas will be on the first hour, Arneson the second hour). Listen here: UFO Paranormal Radio Network, or join us in the virtual auditorium at www.paltalk.com and participate in the conversation.

The UFO-Nuke connection will be discussed, with focus on the recent Press Conference and its aftermath.

Bob Salas, former USAF Captain, was a Minuteman I launch officer (Deputy Missile Combat Crew Commander) at Malmstrom’s Oscar Flight, on March 24, 1967, when all of his missiles dropped-off alert status—malfunctioned—just as one of his guards reported a UFO hovering over the Launch Control Facility’s security fence gate. Salas and his missile commander, now-retired Col. Fred Meiwald, were debriefed about the incident and asked to signed non-disclosure statements by an agent from the Office of Special Investigations (OSI). Meiwald has confirmed that, shortly after the malfunctions occurred, a two-man Security Alert Team was sent out to one of the flight’s missile silos to investigate a tripped alarm there. Upon approaching the site, the team saw a second (or the same) UFO hovering near it, whereupon they became frightened and quickly returned to the Launch Control Facility.

Dwynne Arneson, retired USAF Lieutenant Colonel, was the Officer-in-Charge at the Malmstrom AFB, Montana, Communications Center in 1967, when he read a classified message concerning the sighting of a UFO hovering over one of the base’s Minuteman I Launch Facilities (silos), just as several missiles mysteriously malfunctioned. Although Arneson can not recall the designation of the missile “flight” mentioned, researchers now know that two UFO-related full-flight shutdowns—involving 10 missiles each—took place at Malmstrom in March of that year, at Echo and Oscar Flights.

News coming out of China asserts that a UFO, initially reported by a pilot on an inbound flight to Xiaoshan Airport at Zhejiang's provincial capital of Hangzhou late on Wednesday forced a temporary shut down of all air traffic; the crew and passengers of the plane also witnessed the object.

Accordingly, the pilot notified the control tower at Xiaoshan and although the object wasn’t visible to radar, emergency procedures were implemented; outbound flights were delayed and inbound flights were diverted to other nearby airports.

As the situation progressed the object would be sighted by many witnesses, as well as being captured on video and still cameras. All in all, beginning at 8:41 Wednesday evening, air traffic was suspended for just under an hour.

18 flights were affected: 12 inbound flights were rerouted to nearby airports, 1 was put in a holding pattern, circling the airport and 5 outbound flights were delayed. Over 2000 passengers were affected by the emergency protocol, precipitated by the UFO report.

Government officials are staying mum until an investigation is completed, and rumors are running rampant with the notion of anything from ET, to a private plane, or some new secret military craft . . ..

Can The Ministry of Defence (MoD) Really Close Down UFO Investigations?

No More MoD UFO Investigation

The short answer of course is “NO!”

News is spreading like wildfire in both conventional and Ufological circles that the MoD has announced it will no longer investigate UFO reports; the portals available to the public, i.e., the telephone number and email address for relating such events were terminated on the 1st of this month; the MoD cited "inappropriate use of defence resources" according to defencemanagement.com.

Here in colonies, the closure of then Project Blue Book, the U.S. Air Force’s official investigation into the UFO phenomenon in 1969 created the same hoopla; the closing concluded with the Condon Report, summarizing that “UFO’s weren’t a threat to national security,” yet UFO files from both countries indicate shoot down orders, as well as activity around and over, sensitive military installations e.g., nuclear missile sites etc.

So, another question arises: how do the powers-that-be define, “threats to national security?!” Certainly, unidentified craft in restricted airspace would apply!! In any event, there would be a dereliction of duty, if the military factions of either country did not investigate unknown or unidentified aircraft or aerial objects flying over sovereign territories.

Defencemanagement.com further states:
“The closure was revealed in a Freedom of Information request released via the MoD website.

The MoD had dealt with more than 12,000 reports since it launched the reporting service in 1950 - including 135 last year. The service had cost around £50,000 a year to run and was based at RAF Command in High Wycombe.

In a statement, the ministry said: 'The MoD has no opinion on the existence or otherwise of extra-terrestrial life.

However, in over fifty years, no UFO report has revealed any evidence of a potential threat to the United Kingdom . . ..

There is no defence benefit in such investigation and it would be an inappropriate use of defence resources. Furthermore, responding to reported UFO sightings diverts MoD resources from tasks that are relevant to defence.

Accordingly, and in order to make best use of defence resources, we have decided that from the 1 December 2009 the dedicated UFO hotline answer-phone service and e-mail address will be withdrawn. MoD will no longer respond to reported UFO sightings or investigate them.

The ongoing programme to release departmental files on UFO matters to the National Archive will continue.'"
The UFO Chronicles reached out to both Nick Pope, who actually ran the UFO desk at the MoD in the past, as well as Dr. David Clarke who has worked with the National Archives (UK) in releasing formerly classified UFO files from the MoD.

David ClarkeClarke writes:
"[It's] an inevitable victim of public spending cuts and demands for all resources to go towards providing kit for foreign wars.

Of course what the stories miss is that MoD will continue to look at reports from military sources and air defence radar, as they always have done. This just underlines the fact that they are not interested in wasting time receiving reports of lights in the sky from members of the public, which have been filed away with minimum attention (usually a standard letter response only) since at least 1974.

They can now save money on filing cabinets, stamps and time spent on dealing with tedious 'persistent correspondents.'"
He further wrote:
"I'm obviously disappointed because I think, hidden within all the noise, is interesting material.

But people have got to be realistic, and when you've got the families of soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan saying they haven't got the kit they need, collecting reports of funny lights seen in the sky can't be seen as a priority.

Hopefully in the future it won't be the military that looks into these things - it should be scientists or other people who have got the time to do it."
Nick PopeNick Pope writes:
"Having worked on the UFO project from 1991 to 1994 I am sorry to see MoD disengage in this way. I believe that where evidence suggests that UK airspace has been penetrated by an unidentified object; this must automatically be of defence interest and should be investigated properly.

Indeed, I am sure that sightings from pilots and uncorrelated targets tracked on radar will continue to be looked at, albeit outside of a formally constituted UFO project. From the Fifties to the present day, MoD received around 12,000 UFO reports. While most were misidentifications of ordinary objects and phenomena, around 5% remained unexplained."
As is was with the end of Project Blue Book, one has to ask if there is an ulterior motive; obviously UFO investigations won’t stop in the UK, no more then they have stopped here. Perhaps the powers-that-be are simply thinking, “out of sight, out of mind.”
