Smith Mountain Lake UFO Conference Mariners Landing Resort and Conference Center Huddleston, Virginia

Smith Mountain UFO Conference
A Review

By Suzanne Ramsey
7-10-09

Suzanne RamseyScott & Suzanne Ramsey     Last month my husband Scott and I attended and spoke at the Smith Mountain Lake UFO Conference. Here are a few notes I jotted down in reference to this conference and thought you might enjoy reading them.

We have know the hosts of this conference, Rob and Sue Swiatek for several years and always enjoy our time with them, so when invited us to the conference, we were excited to attend.

The conference was intimate in size, but mighty in talent. Each speaker brought new information to the table.

Rob SwiatekRob Swiatek is a fascinating person as well as a speaker. Having been involved with aeronautics, astronautics and UFO’s in both official and non-official capacities since he was young, Rob brings a comprehensive look at UFO’s as few others can. This particular lecture covered a historical comparison of several countries and their methods of documenting UFO Sightings. Rob has the ability to help us step back and see the “big picture” at the same time paying careful attention to details.

Cameron PackCameron Pack – this young man knocked our socks off. His introduction to the world of UFO’s began with a sighting that he and a friend had experienced. This moved Cameron to go to his local police department in Virginia Beach, Virginia and ask for any records that they had on UFO Sightings in the area. The police department handed the reports over to him. Cameron combed over and over the reports, with each one his interest in the topic deepened. In time, he began noticing commonalities and distinctions in the reports. This led him to back track information leads him to some exciting conclusions.

We look forward to see more information from Cameron as he has now broadened his research interest to additional sightings outside of his living vicinity.

(On a personal note, it was nice to see a young person with the concern for accuracy that Cameron is showing. Although I’m sure that there are others that are serious researchers, many seem to be focused on what they can pull up on the internet or hear say, which may be entertaining, but not necessarily truth. John Greenwalde is another young man who fits in to the category of truth seeker.) Keep up the good work gentlemen.

Antonio HuneeusAntonio Huneeus- Although we had long been admirers of Antonio’s UFO Research, neither Scott or I had ever met or seen his presentation before. What an absolutely brilliant man! This multi lingual, international traveler has researched and documented UFO sightings worldwide. Antonio has seen the highs and lows of the study of UFO through out his life time taking him as far as the United Nations on behalf of Ufology. A bonus is he is able to overcome language and cultural barriers that give a more accurate experience.

If you have an chance to see him lecture of visit with him, DO NOT MISS the opportunity.

Sue SwiatekSusan Swiatek began her interest in UFO’s as a child and the interest continues. Currently she is the MUFON Virginia State Director and is active with the Fund for UFO Research. Susan shared actual case information and interviews that she has investigated in Virginia. The statistics and details she shared were great, but it doesn’t began to describe the delightful person that she is. Susan has a balance of brains and fun that is difficult to find. Plus…she was the hostess with the mostess for the conference. (Thanks again, Susan!)

Granville AngellGranville Angell- His lecture was on “Are we prepared to know the truth about our shared universe? Cover-up persists: thoughts on why”.

Granville is a deeply caring man who focuses on our health and well-being in preparation for contact with alien beings and other worldly forces. Granville asks questions, gives tools and examples of keeping a spiritual balance when dealing with Ufology. Step by step he walks you in a gentle manner down a path of light.

Scott and Suzanne Ramsey- I didn’t see this presentation, (Ha! Ha!) We created an informal setting where we could interact with the audience very closely. This was a rare opportunity for a closeness with the group that opened up some great questions and conversation.

This was a late evening presentation and although we were all saturated with great information from the speakers all day long, we could have easily spoken another hour about the Crash/Landing of 1948 in Aztec, New Mexico.

Scott & Suzanne Ramsey

Aztec New Mexico UFO Incident: New Findings

Scott & Suzanne RamseyThe charming couple of Scott & Suzanne were brought together over the Aztec UFO Incident. With 20+ years of study, the duo has lent credibility to the 1950 Frank Scully story in his book Behind the Flying Saucers. The idea of a flying saucer crashing or landing outside the town of Aztec in the spring of 1948 has some compelling evidence to support it. Extensive modern research involved finding the precise location of the site, and the most probable location emerged as being high on a mesa. There the Ramseys found the infamous concrete slab; Was the slab just part of oilfield history, or did it play a part in the alleged UFO recovery operation as told by a few? Expert oilfield workers, engineers and a leading concrete and engineering company evaluated the age of the concrete and rebar inside the thick slab. To see the slab in its odd location up on the mesa is a very convincing experience, and your hosts Rob & Sue Swiatek were quite impressed while on location with the Ramseys. Join us as Scott & Suzanne take us on a journey back to 1948 in Aztec, New Mexico!

Cameron Pack

UFOs and the Amateur Researcher

Cameron PackCameron Pack gained his earliest first-hand experience with the subject of UFOs in 2003 when he had a Close Encounter of the First Kind in his current hometown of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Cameron was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1983 and has always kept an open mind about the paranormal. After his 2003 sighting, Cameron began to research UFOs in earnest and in 2004 obtained a collection of UFO sighting reports from the Virginia Beach City Police Department, dating back to 1976. He has made numerous FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) requests to other police departments, the FBI and to every US Air Force base in the world seeking UFO sighting reports found within the base security forces police blotters. Most recently he was able to observe the east coast’s spectacular falling meteorite of March 29, 2009. Cameron will speak on all of these topics during his lecture. Cameron is currently taking a science based curriculum of college courses and intends to become a MUFON Field Investigator within a few months.

Robert Swiatek

Busy Brits: New Web Postings from the UK UFO Archives

Extraordinary Research Partnership:
Will It Yield UFO Gold?

Rob SwiatekRobert has had a curiosity about space, aeronautics and UFOs all his life. From launching rockets as a boy to working as an intern at NASA during college, Robert has only continued to increase his knowledge of conventional space vehicles as well as unconventional UFOs. His degrees in Physics and Earth Science paved the way for a career at the US Patent Office where he is a Physics Examiner in aeronautics and astronautics. Robert has lectured at conferences throughout the US and contributed writing to numerous UFO projects and titles, especially for the Fund for UFO Research, Inc. (FUFOR). Robert is frequently seen turning up on the Discovery or History channels in various productions. His aggressive debating style on programs such as Larry King Live have won him accolades from many in the field. He has served as Secretary-Treasurer of both FUFOR (since 1986) and the UFO Research Coalition (URC) since its inception. Robert has been on the Board of MUFON since 2004.

Truly Bizarre Cases From My Files

Sue SwiatekSusan was born in Washington, DC, grew up outside Denver, Colorado, and since 1970 is again near the nation's capital, in Fairfax, Virginia. She is MUFON VA State Director and is active with the Fund for UFO Research, Inc. (FUFOR). Susan's early years were spent in the Rockies gazing up at the stars and reading such books as Charles Fort's Book of the Damned. When Betty and Barney Hill's Interrupted Journey exploded onto the pages of Look Magazine in 1966, she was hooked on the UFO mystery. Susan holds a BFA degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore and is working in the publishing field. Susan hosted the 1999 International MUFON Symposium just outside Washington, DC and has lectured widely. Her artwork appears in books such as Ron Story's Extraterrestrial Encyclopedia and Richard Hall's The UFO Evidence-Part II. She has created many covers for the Fund and UFO Research Coalition (URC) publications.

In the Orbit of UFO Enthusiasts

By Joe Heim
The Washington Post
10-21-07

As a meeting spot for UFO enthusiasts, Logan's Roadhouse might seem a tad unlikely. But once a month or so, the back room of the bustling, busily decorated chain restaurant in Fairfax becomes the mother ship for area ufologists (yes, that's what they prefer to be called). They gather there to snack on chicken tenders and chili, and exchange sightings and extraordinary stories in the company of like-minded people who won't think they've completely lost their marbles.

"When I first started 20 years ago, it was a bunch of old guys with their pocket protectors, but now the meetings are getting more diverse," organizer Sue Swiatek says.

Swiatek, a software analyst by day, is the state director of the Virginia chapter of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), a private organization that investigates and compiles data on reports of unidentified flying objects. She and her husband, Rob Swiatek, an oft-cited UFO expert, are, for lack of a better term, the first couple of Virginia ufologists.

On Saturday, they will be among the featured speakers at Mysteries of Space and Sky IV: Sixty Years of UFOs, a daylong conference open to the public at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold. Rob Swiatek's talk, "Sacre Bleu! UFOs Over France," alone seems well worth the conference's $30-$40 admission fee.

For UFO buffs, 2007 is a multiple anniversary year. It was 60 years ago that whatever happened in Roswell, N.M., happened. It was 60 years ago that the term "flying saucer" entered the lexicon. And it was 55 years ago that reports of UFOs flooded the Washington region. This very newspaper ran stories with such headlines as " 'Saucer' Outran Jet, Pilot Reveals" and "D.C. Girl Sees Saucer Float Under Clouds."

Five years ago, a new case arose when F-16 fighter jets were scrambled from Andrews Air Force Base to pursue what turned out to be -- dum-de-dum-dum -- an unknown craft. Spooky, huh? And because it happened exactly 50 years to the day of saucers being reported over the region, the event prompted a flurry of local ufological activity. (And, no, don't insert a "we all know how painful that can be" joke here).

Of course, UFO enthusiasts are used to having their ideas about aliens and intergalactic spacecraft ridiculed. Those who opine that there are "others" out there are bound to hear they're more than a little out there themselves. If you talk to enough of them, you realize they have heard all of the insults before: nut job, wacko, loony, space case. But perhaps the most insulting thing to call a UFO believer is, well, a believer.

To believe, they argue, is to imply that there is room for doubt. But, they tell you, if you study the cases, follow the facts, examine the evidence, there is no room for doubt. "We're not believers; we're concluders," says Paul Nahay of Silver Spring. Meet him and find out what he and other local concluders have to say about UFOs.
