Troy Mathew from the start up company "Survata" conducted a survey on the "belief in extraterrestrial life". From September 16th - 18th 2013 they interviewed 5,886 online respondents from varying backgrounds and beliefs. In this interview Alejandro Rojas talks with Troy about the survey and the results and the reason form conducting such a poll.

Nearly Half the Population Believes UFOs Could Be Alien Visitation
48 Percent Of Americans Believe UFOs Could Be ET Visitations

Nearly half the population believes UFOs could be a sign of extraterrestrial visitation.
A HuffPost/YouGov poll reveals that 48 percent of adults in the United States are open to the idea that alien spacecraft are observing our planet -- and just 35 percent outright reject the idea.
The poll was seen as vindication from the community of UFO researchers who often feel they are laughed off by government officials.
"It's always been intriguing to me how we act as though only kooks and quacks and little old ladies in tennis shoes believe in flying saucers. And it's never been true, at least for 30 or 40 years," said former nuclear physicist Stanton Friedman, who was the original civilian investigator of the events surrounding the legendary Roswell, NM, UFO crash of 1947.
Friedman is very outspoken on the idea that some UFOs are intelligently controlled extraterrestrial vehicles. . . .

Year of The UFO? Let's Get Real
What do WikiLeaks and mass bird die-offs have in common? Both anomalous phenomena have been linked in with the popular fascination with unidentified flying objects and the prospects for alien contact — all of which adds to a rising, under-the-media-radar buzz over unexplained phenomena.
The buzz is evident in the recent voting for the top space story of 2010: The past year's spate of UFO reports received the most votes in our unscientific end-of-year news poll. That doesn't prove anything ... except that there's a continuing level of interest in the UFO phenomenon. That interest is reflected as well in the results from opinion polls, the airing of TV shows such as "V" and the appetite for books such as "UFOs: Generals, Pilots and Government Officials Go on the Record."

Leslie Kean's Book 'UFOs: . . . On The Record' Makes MSNBC's Annual 'Top Space Stories List'; Cast Your Vote To Make It No. 1!!
. . . Every year since 1997, we've reviewed the top space stories of the previous 12 months and looked ahead to the trends to watch in the 12 months to come. It's up to you to choose which story from 2010 and which trend for 2011 should lead the list. To refresh your memory, last year's top story was the LCROSS moon-crashing mission — which, by the way, continued to make news this year. You projected that the top trend would be the impact of newly developed rockets such as SpaceX's Falcon 9 on future spaceflight.
Here's this year's roundup. Please vote for your top story and top trend using the polls included on this page, or cast a write-in vote with your comments below. I'm very excited about this. It's important for establishing the importance of UFOs in the context of space, NASA, studies on exoplanets, etc. How great to be listed right along side these other mainstream issues as a top space story of 2010! This is a good message for SETI. That's why it's so important - it's about the subject, not the book, and this elevates it into equal status with scientific space exploration.
