Israeli family videotapes orange UFO during family barbecue

     An Israeli family enjoying a barbecue was witness to an orange-colored object moving across the sky that they could not identify but were able to videotape, according to May 1, 2013, testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

"I am a numerologist from south of Tel Aviv in Israel," the reporting witness stated. "My guests, me and my family, went to a barbecue near my home. After midnight suddenly the object came from the left side."

"The object only remains at the same height and it traveled at a constant rate. Before the object, we saw a small airplane. The object was two kilometers after the airplane and low -- one kilometer from the airplane. Was there all the time. During the event no one could identify the object. It was something we never saw. We made the best we can and know to film the event."

Israel air traffic 'briefly halted over UFO'

     AFP - Israel's civilian air traffic was halted for several minutes on Wednesday morning after an unidentified flying object was spotted inside Israeli air space, Israel's army radio said.

Air force jets were briefly scrambled and Israeli air space was closed, it said, without saying what caused the scare. The closure was lifted several minutes later.

Closing Israeli air space was an "exceptional" measure which demonstrated the level of tension in Israel . . ..

     A spaceship flying over Israel? A satellite or a Russian ballistic missile? An unidentified flying object observed in Middle East countries Thursday night has caused panic, with people calling the police to say they witnessed a UFO.

The mysterious shining object seen in the skies swirled around and looked like smoke, some observers said. The object gave off light and was followed by a smoke trail.

The strange flying phenomenon was also reported in Georgia, Armenia, Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and other countries in the region.

The Israeli Defense Forces made a statement following the incident saying they were unaware of any operations in the area.

Some astronomical experts conjectured that the object was a satellite that had exploded in orbit, the Times of Israel reports. The newspaper also quoted a Lebanese report suggesting that the flying item was the remains of a meteorite, with its smashed pieces creating a dust trail that glowed behind it.

Prominent Israeli astronomer Dr. Yigal Pat-El, who is chairman of the Israeli Astronomical Association and an observatory director, told the Ediot Ahronot newspaper it is quite possible that the object was a ballistic missile.

"It most likely spun out of control and its remnants and the fuel was what people saw. It reached a height of 200-300 kilometers and that's why it was seen from so many locations," he told the newspaper.

Mr. Pat-El also said it was not a meteor: “It looked like a small body that suddenly started to grow and make spiral-like movements."

"After a while, it turned into a cloud….it looked like an object flying high above ground and then disintegrating," he added.

Suspicions that the shining flying object could be a missile were further fuelled by a Russian Defense Ministry statement saying the country had successfully test-fired a Topol strategic intercontinental ballistic missile. . . .

UFO widely seen in Middle East skies, linked to Russian missile test

     A swirling spiral of light seen in the skies over Israel, Syria and other Middle East countries on Thursday night has been linked to a Russian intercontinental ballistic missile test.

Hundreds of Israelis jammed police hotlines with reports of the unidentified flying object, according to Ynetnews. Sighting reports came from Lebanon and even Armenia and Turkey. Versions of the video, captioned in Arabic, began appearing on YouTube.

Some of the reports that popped up on Twitter suggested that the lights in the sky were seen as a good omen for Syria's revolution. Others worried that it was a bad omen for Syria, potentially signaling the use of chemical weapons.

The actual explanation is almost certainly more mundane: The Voice of Russia reported that the country's Strategic Missile Forces conducted a test of the Topol ICBM from the Kapustin Yar firing range near Astrakhan in southern Russia on Thursday. Such a launch could theoretically be seen from areas of the Middle East and the Caucasus.

Citing a report from RIA Novosti, the radio service said the missile "accurately hit its target" in a Kazakh firing range. However, Ynetnews quoted Yigal Pat-El, chairman of the Israel Astronomical Association, as saying the missile "most likely spun out of control, and its remnants and the fuel was what people saw." . . .

Hundreds flood police with reports of UFO in nation's skies; Astronomical Association chairman says object isn't a meteor, flew above Lebanon. Similar sighting in Norway in 2009 turned out to be failed missile test

      Mystery in Israel's skies: Hundreds of Israelis nationwide flooded police hotlines Thursday evening with reports about seeing an unidentified flying object in the nation's skies.

A prominent Israeli astronomer said the object flew above Lebanese territory and is not a meteor. The UFO was also clearly visible in Palestinian territories. A similar sighting in Norway three years ago turned out to be a failed missile test.

The object was initially spotted in northern Israel, but was later reported being seen as far south as Gedera. The IDF Northern Command said it was unaware of any IDF operations in the area. Officials were also checking whether the Air Force was related to the sighting.

According to the reports, received around 9 pm Thursday, the unidentified object gave off light and was followed by a smoke trail. . . .

     Police have Stated that many citizens across the country have called the police hotline with reports of an unidentified flying object. The object was spotted in the north as well as in cities in central Israel.


The "glowing" object was seen flying at a high altitude and seemed to be falling apart with a trail of smoke. The IDF said it was looking into the matter. (Ahiya Raved and Abigail Looshi)

     Moti Gaber, a resident of Kfar Yonah, a suburb of Netanya, Israel, was coming home with his son Wednesday night around 8:00 from the Lag Ba’Omer festivities, when he saw something quite literally out of this world.

“I saw something very strange,” he told the Jewish Press early Thursday morning. “I arrived at the parking bay in my housing complex, I look up and, alongside the top of the buildings, I see these orange balls. They were moving in formation, eight altogether.”

Gaber, who served in the IDF in a combat unit, said he can tell the difference between a fireworks pencil, or flares, and what he saw last night. “It looked nothing like any of those things,” he insisted. “If they were fireworks pencils they would have dropped and evaporated. And they just didn’t look like flares. As to balloons, what can I tell you, it makes no sense for a balloon to move horizontally like that.” . . .

IAF Jet Shoots Down Unknown Object from Jordan

     An Israel Air Force fighter jet shot down an unidentified flying object that penetrated Israeli air space early Thursday afternoon. The object is thought to have been a balloon. Investigation of the incident is ongoing.

The object entered Israeli airspace from Jordan, over the southern Dead Sea. There was concern that it would go near the nuclear plant in Dimona, which is located near the spot where the object was shot down.

No one was hurt. IAF sources said the balloon was unmanned and that this was verified before it was shot down.

Flight routes in the skies over the Negev were severely limited in the course of the incident. Some flights were delayed and pilots of commercial flights were instructed to maintain low-altitude flight paths.

An earlier aerial incident over the Dimona Nuclear Research Center occurred in October 2009. An ultralight aircraft entered the restricted airspace over the sensitive installation, IAF jets were scrambled and it was forced to land at a landing strip near Arad.

The Dimona plant is believed to be high among the targets that Iranian puppet militia Hizbullah's missiles would attack if a war between Israel and Iran broke out. Israel's retaliation in such a case would probably be devastating. The Jewish State's missile defense programs are reportedly mostly in place to protect its sensitive facilities and not its civilian population centers.

Meteor Sparks Fears of UFO, Iranian Missiles in Israel

     A relatively large and unexpected meteor streaked across the sky over central Israel Tuesday evening, sparking widespread fears that the nation was under attack by Iran, Syria, or perhaps aliens.

The large bright ball and flaming tail were visible around 8 PM and were seen by thousands of Israelis from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv. As soon as the meteor had disappeared, burned up in earth's atmosphere, calls to the police began pouring in.

Panic-striken Israelis were certain that one of Israel's many regional enemies was finally making good on threats to destroy the Jewish state. Just as many callers believed the celestial sighting was a UFO.

Officials said the atmosphere of near hysteria was only made worse by the fact that astronomers had failed to predict this particular meteor would hit earth. One astronomer said he and his colleagues rarely miss predicting such a large meteor colliding with earth's atmosphere.
