UFOs and Strange Noises in Bundaberg

THEY weren't birds and they weren't planes... so what were the strange objects in our skies on Friday night?

People across Bundaberg spotted the shiny orange objects in the night sky and took to social media with some suggesting they were Chinese lanterns and others thinking there was a more otherworldly explanation.

Reports of UFOs (keeping in mind a UFO is simply something in the sky we can't explain) seem to be nothing new in the region - and I should know because I have reported on a lot of them.

But on Friday night I became the subject when I spotted two of these lights moving over the sky as I was getting into my car.

To me, they were not planes. Planes don't closely follow each other, they make a different kind of light and have a sound. . . .

AS Ryan Peat glanced up at the sky on Thursday evening he was left standing in pure astonishment after glimpsing what may have been life from another galaxy.

Mr Peat was in his backyard in West Bundaberg at about 6.25pm when he saw a bright blue flash of light making its way across the sky.

"It was travelling much like a shooting star but not as fast," he said.

"It then started to turn green and little specks of light started to trail behind it before it disintegrated."

At first thought, Mr Peat wondered if a dodgy firework had been let off.

"I didn't hear any bang usually associated with fireworks though," he said.

"I now think it might have been a meteorite or some sort of space junk."

With curiosity getting the better of him, Mr Peat and his partner Tegan Irving posted on Bundaberg Classifieds Facebook page about the sighting and were surprised at the response they received.

"We had over 100 comments on the post with a few other people saying that they saw the same thing," he said.

"Some said they didn't see anything but they did hear a big bang around the same time."

According to Australian Close Encounter Resource Network principal Mary Rodwell, unidentified flying objects are commonly sighted within the Bundaberg region.

"There are sightings all the time, here and all over Australia," she said.

AFTER a recent article documenting several UFO sightings in the Bundaberg region, more people have shared their stories and footage.

A woman who wished not to be named said she saw a strange light on March 18 this year.

"At about 9.15pm as I was watching television I saw through the open lounge room door a blue light that came down like a beam not far from our house, or at least it looked like that," she said.

"It came down from the sky, deathly quiet, and then disappeared."

The woman said she had been stumped ever since she saw the eerie light.

"My husband didn't see it as he was sitting in a different position," she said.

"I posted it on Facebook but no one else had seen anything. It has intrigued me ever since because it was so eerie and there was no explanation as to why a blue light would just come down from the sky."

The Bundaberg woman said she hoped someone could shed some light on what she had seen. . . .

Experience still baffles
ON DECEMBER 14, Jason was out the back of his house in Thabeban talking to his cousin on the phone. "It was a very clear night and I could see all the stars out, I was looking out in the north east of the sky when I noticed (I had been looking that way for a few minutes) a bright light appear about half way in the sky," he said. Jason said he thought it was a bit strange because if it was a plane he would have seen the light from the start. "It seemed to accelerate on a 45 degree angle heading towards the atmosphere, it was only viewable for around 20 seconds, and then it appeared to get brighter as it made its course and then it was gone," he said. "I didn't see it leave the atmosphere (doubt I'd know even if it did) it just vanished." Jason said he was left puzzled by the object he had seen in the sky. "I doubt it was a plane as they don't go towards the atmosphere, I assume a weather balloon would go directly upwards, not on an angle," he said. "I also do not think it was a rocket as this thing did not leave a trail of smoke at all, it also appeared out of nowhere, I've seen plenty of rockets in the skies over my life and this wasn't a rocket." The Bundaberg man, who wished only to be known by his first name, said he could not come up with an explanation for what he saw. "I've never seen a UFO, but I couldn't explain this and it's baffled me ever since," Jason said. . . .
