The city of Chilpancingo (state of Guerrero’s) La Cronica Vespertina newspaper reported the sighting of an unknown light that landed at Cerro Pie de Minas, emitting flashes for over 30 hours and causing alarm among the locals.

The event took place in the early morning hours of December 31, 2007 in the town of Mezcala, Guerrero. According to the news report from journalist Francisco Rangel, dated January 10, 2008, the phenomenon was observed by the entire town, cutting across all ages ranging from children to senior citizens and including mining engineers and laborers at the Los Filos gold mine.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that drivers halted their vehicles all the way to the Federal Highway in order to take a look at the intense light source that traveled across various parts of the locality at an estimated altitude of 300 meters. They describe a saucer-shaped craft that passed over the town square slowly and silently before landing on a hill known as Pie de Minas, where it emitted flashes for over 30 hours.

According to the newspaper story, witnesses to the phenomenon complained of eye irritation despite the fact that they saw it at a considerable distance. Not only that, but there is also talk of fluctuations in the level of electric power in spite of the fact that no voltage changes were detected at the electric substation belonging to the Comision Federal de Electricidad.

Many people took photos and videos with their cameras and cellphones, but their recordings were affected and distorted by an alleged magnetic force. They added that even the pictures taken with analog cameras were overexposed.

According to the newspaper article: “The object was seen by most of the population, ranging from small children to the elderly and entire families, seen at considerable distances by the luminosity that affected the eyes of many residents and the fact that the electric levels of all the homes dropped whenever the light’s intensity increased, ranging from a soft shade of light blue to a white and phosphorescent blue, acquiring yellow, orange and soft red tones....”

Many video recordings exist in spite of this, taken by people who managed to record it from their homes at a distance of 4 or 6 kilometers away. The footage shows a round light, whether white or light blue, with strange figures at its core that were described-- by those who peered at the object through binoculars – as something resembling a cat or a being with horns, causing the greatest degree of fear among the locals, rendering them unable to sleep for the two following nights. The sighting was not made known beyond the confines of the town until the first days of this week, although reports of alleged meteorite activity had been received from Amojileca and Xochipala on January 1st. Residents of Mezcala say that the inclement weather – strong, cold winds – could have been caused by the luminous UFO which appeared to have landed on the hill known as Pie de Mina in the wilderness known as “La V”, from where it was filmed by many locals with their diminutive Handycams and who were clearly afraid that something awful would happen, or that the vehicle’s crew would harm them.

Alfonso Ramirez Maya, 35, a farmer and board-layer, had a chance to film the UFO with his video camera and his daughter’s cell phone. He showed us the images taken, and those in which the light can be seen moving, but with deformations of the images on the cellphone. The white light resembles a balloon that changes shape, despite their best efforts at remaining steady. The images were obtained from their house on Calle Francisco Villa n/n, Colonia Cabeza de Culebra, 5 km from the sighting one kilometer distant from the Mexico City – Acapulco Federal Highway that passes through Mezcala.

Another person who had the opportunity to record a video was Jesus Santana Hernandez, who filmed the UFO as it flew over the community, but sent the video to Houston so that a relative could make it known through a local TV station, since some thought they could profit from selling the images. However, the majority of the locals who have the evidence are hesitant to disclose it, as they do not wish to earn themselves a poor reputation or be dismissed as lunatics.

However, they are all willing to discuss the experience after being told that an effort is underway to document the sighting, and even willing to accompany a research group to the site, as it is a rugged terrain filled with rattlesnakes and scorpions. Many of the people interviewed, among whom were serious individuals of all ages, youths and even children, offered interpretations of the story that agreed with one another's regarding the sighting of the light on the hill and its transit over the community of Mezcala, further agreeing with the fear and consternation they experienced for the 30-hour span in which the “flying saucer” was present.

Many residents of this community stated that there were several occasions in which some people tried to reach the place where the UFO touched down. In the night and evening of January first, when up to 20 or 30 pickup trucks laden with people tried to reach the sight were the light could be seen, the light simply went dark. There exists, however, the report of a group that came within fifty meters of the vessel described as a flying saucer, whose color was similar to that of brilliant, galvanized sheet metal, with a whitish or light blue light. These people brought with them video and still cameras, but their vehicles were left without power, with no electricity and stalled engines. Furthermore, camera batteries were inexplicably drained despite having been charged, and returned to normal operating conditions later on.

Bold youths who dared approach the UFO clearly heard two dry, metallic sounds emerging from the interior of the alleged craft. This spooked them into hiding under their pickup trucks and even made them weep like children, as they believed the occupants would emerge to seize them. This fear prompted them to flee the site as best they could, and they refuse to talk about it.

Closer images were obtained from videos taken from the slopes of Pie de Mina – one kilometer distant – where the object can be seen as larger, resembling a large white circle of encapsulated light. Symbols can be made out, and even the shape of a face drawn on a card by another witness, having the shape of a feline or a horned being that appears to be at the center of the light.

To many businessmen in downtown Mezcala, and food vendors who witnessed the phenomenon from the early hours of December 31, also saw the gathering of people who had set out to see the UFO phenomenon and who offered their versions about what it could be. There were many who recorded videos or took photos, but after the novelty wore off, they became disaffected after making the trip in groups of pickup trucks – accompanied by two local sheriffs – without finding anything. To calm the populace down, they said [the sighting ] had been caused by the clash of high voltage wires that entwined in the strong wind.

The owner of a budget store says that sales declined because people became frightened, and that Mezcala looked “like a ghost town” as many of its residents fled out of fear, believing that harm would befall them because the vehicle remained on the hillside, emitting powerful flashes skyward even in broad daylight. There are even those who say that another light above appeared to blink, as if communicating the one below. This made them fear the worst, and contributed to restless sleep for two nights.

There is much more evidence of the extraordinary event, known as a Close Encounter of the 2nd Kind (CE-2), a variety of eyewitness accounts from an entire community stricken with terror by the tremendous light that lit all of the nearby hills, and even caused the city’s own electric lights to dwindle, all of this amid strong winds and the cold nights of early 2008.

In order to reach the landing site of the luminous UFO, it is necessary to walk for several hours or reach the site on all-terrain vehicles, since there could be evidence of some sort to be found where the UFO remained for 30 hours, all the while flashing its lights.

It should be noted that the area has various mineral and metal deposits, such as uranium, cobalt, gold, silver and copper. [...] A more thorough investigation of what appears to be a genuine UFO case must be performed, verifying if there were any traces left behind at Pie de Minas hill, in the “La V” wilderness of the community of Mezcala, Municipality of Zumpango del Rio, state of Guerrero. Other reports involving strange phenomena have been received from other municipalities early this year.

UFOs ARE HERE!

Classic documentary film from 1977 with rare footage featuring: Steven Spielberg, Stan Deyo, Jacques Vallee, Prof. Allen Hynek, Stanton Friedman, Margaret Mead, Ken Arnold, Betty Hill, William Gill, Klaus Nobel, RAAF Sqdn Ldr White, Ray Palmer and Colin Cameron.

This amazing UFO documentary film was produced in 1977. It was way ahead of its time. Sadly, the master copies of this film and the two which followed it have been lost to the ravages of time. Only one VHS copy of it survived; so Channel 9 gave us permission to convert it to digital video in an effort to preserve it as an archive for the use of posterity.

This film inspired Stan Deyo to write "The Cosmic Conspiracy" book which is the sequel to the shows. The man-made, flying saucer programs are exposed in the book and the film.

MUFON North Carolina Winter Meeting
January 13, 2008

Just a few notes by Suzanne Ramsey
Suzanne Ramsey (Sml)     Greetings,

Earlier this month, my husband Scott Ramsey and I attended the Winter MUFON - North Carolina Meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Sunday was a cold day and the air, its savor was reminiscent of snow, relatively unusual for our area and made me think “boy wouldn’t it be nice to curl up in front of the fireplace and read a good book.”

What a missed opportunity that would have—not going to the MUFON Meeting.

The high grade of speakers brought an audience that was thirsty for information; even the breaks were filled with lively conversation.

At the end of the meeting the MUFON group had plans to meet at a local restaurant. With an hour drive home ahead of us, we weighed the option of joining everyone one for dinner. Again what a wonderful opportunity we would have missed had we not attended.

Ruby Tuesdays was fairly quiet when we arrived...but the energy quickly changed as 60 MUFONers strolled in. My husband Scott Ramsey and I were fortunate enough to sit and visit with UFO Researchers Mike Price, Michael O’Connell, as well “George Fawcett” a legend in the UFO Community.

Frankly it was hard to end the evening we were having such a good time. Believe me there was no chance of sleeping in the car on the way home. Scott and I never stopped talking the entire drive. So much information to process!

Here is a little taste of the MUFON Meeting:

With the networks, production companies and the media beginning to recognize the increased interest that people are having in UFO's, we are seeing more programming being devoted to this topic. As you probably are aware, some of the programs are fair and factual while others are almost used as an opportunity to mock. One topic that they seem to have an especially difficult time handling with dignity is abductions. Granted it is not exactly the type of topic that is going to be based on black and white evidence, but come on...

It was rewarding to see the two individuals that spoke at this meeting move in a non-judgmental manner. If you have an opportunity to visit with Dr. O'Connell or see Ms. Marden’s presentation, I would highly suggest you make time to do so.
Enjoy!

Kathleen Marden (Sml)

If you aren’t familiar with this name, let me drop two names that will probably ring some bells…”Betty and Barney Hill.” Ah ha! Got ya now!

Kathleen Marden is the niece of Betty and Barney Hill and co-author with Stanton Friedman, of a recently released book entitled: Captured! The Betty and Barney Hill UFO Experience: the True Story of the World’s First Documented Alien Abduction.

The story is not a new one; nevertheless, what made this exploration of Betty and Barney Hill’s experience unique was not only the quality multi-dimensional format, but also the clean apple-to-apple comparisons of evidence that shed new light on this 46-year-old incident.

Ms. Marden invites you to join what started out to be a “little get-away” trip with Betty, Barney and their dog. Step by step you participate in the before, during, and post abduction experience.

The comparative analysis of data, (side by side), along with the opportunity to listen to pieces of the actual tapes of Betty and Barney while under hypnosis clear up some misinformation that has been passed around regarding this incident.

The posturing of the audience during this presentation was very interesting. Each of the 70+ attendees literally was leaning forward on the edge of their seat, Captured!

Michael O'Connell, ed.D

A Clinical Psychologist having worked closely with Dr. John Mack, Dr. O’Connell has studied and mastered many topics in his lifetime. I specifically use the term, “mastered” having not only heard him speak of his “experiences” with UFO/alien abductees (as he did at the MUFON Mtg), but also having seen him in action with some of these individuals.

His focus is working with people that have had UFO Encounters of the 4th and 5th kind. As you can imagine this is a very sensitive and vulnerable topic for most people to speak or even think of. Dr. O’Connell described some of these experiences in his presentation.

Although his presentation stirred the minds of the audience, encouraging them to participate with questions and comments, it isn’t until you really have a chance to visit privately or watch him at work that you really get a sense of the service he offers these people.

Let me jump back for a moment to the first time I met Dr. O’Connell. Several years ago over lunch, I drilled him about his methods, philosophy and focus in working with these folks. (I don’t usually respond to people in this manner, especially upon our first meeting, but I guess having interviewed a number of people that feel that they have been abducted, I have seen how some “self proclaimed authority figures” have really compromised the abductees well being simply for their own ego.) Frankly I wanted to know if Dr. O’Connell was one of them.

While attending a conference, we ended up spending some time together each day over the next week.

Since then I have listened to people that have worked with him and watched as people approach him. And finally this week had the chance to see him in action.

Respectful is the first word that comes to my mind.

Moving is the second word.

Dr. O’Connell takes the time to listen and reach out to help people help themselves. It is never ego driven. Never judgmental…it is not about him…

In his own way, I think he considers it an honor to share their experience. He doesn’t plant information, he doesn’t ask leading questions or have expected out comes.

I would think that most people find him to be safe haven after an experience that has left them with lots of questions.

Mysterious Light Puzzles Albany Man

UFO Shot By Brian Wright (B)
By Cathy Ingalls
Albany Democrat-Herald
1-29-08

Brian Wright of Albany saw a circular, bright light in the eastern sky about a year ago, and he’s wondered about it ever since.

He said he called the military and cable news organizations right after he saw the object, but no one seemed to be interested, and he couldn’t find anyone else who had seen it. Then with recent reports of UFOs spotted elsewhere in the country, he contacted the Democrat-Herald.

Wright, 30, a stay-at-home dad who attended both South and West Albany high schools, said he’d shot a video and wanted us to view it and run a photograph of the thing in the newspaper.

He said it happened about 10 p.m. Feb. 5, 2007, and he and a friend, Joal Traynor, were talking outside of Wright’s townhouse on Queen Avenue near Hill Street.

“Out of the blue, something came up out of the eastern sky toward Lebanon,” he said. “It was a bright light that looked like fire.”

When it moved toward Albany, Wright dashed into his apartment to get his camcorder so he could record the event. The video is jerky, as Wright said he was trying to find the object through his lens and then had trouble focusing because it was moving so fast.

Just as quickly as it appeared in the sky, the object made a sharp turn toward the southeast and disappeared, he said.

“I know it wasn’t a plane, a helicopter or a hot air balloon. That was obvious,” he said. “It also wasn’t a flare or a shooting star because it left no trail.”

Wright said he called the Albany police but was told no one else had reported seeing anything unusual in the sky.

“My friends are skeptical even though they’ve seen the picture, but they can’t explain what it is,” he said.

Wright’s father, Brian Wright Sr., is visiting from California and has a more open mind.

“I believe there are other things out there,” he said.

Brian Wright would like to hear from anyone who has an idea about what he saw.

We are continuing our report on the sightings of strange lights over the town of Guanica which have been taking place since last Friday. The sightings are ongoing. The day after having reported on the huge, classical saucer-shaped UFO, more detailed information was received from another district near the previous one (Vivones). This time the report came from Puig, near the town of Guanica. Behind this district we find the notorious Lajas Valley. Several witnesses reported seeing a strange light, bright orange in color, appear out of nowhere at low altitude close to them. This luminous phenomenon did not make any noise or perceptible sounds. This incident took place at an early time -- 8:10 p.m. -- and the objects maneuvers were a zig-zag in the same location very low altitude before taking off toward Lajas at an incredible speed. Jose Hernandez is not a believer in UFOs and says that he had never seen one in his life until that evening, and cannot explain what he saw with his own eyes. His brother in law added that he nad never seen anything like it either, and that he was impressed to see this object such a short distance away from them.

Two Police Officers from Guanica Report UFO on Guanica Back Road Toward Lajas

Two municipal policemen on their day off were spending time with their families at La Parguera, Lajas. (The officers' names will not be disclosed at their request). When both families departed the La Parguera district, they made ready to return to Guanica using a back road known as Los Hornos, a lonely road that runs from Ensenada de Guanica to Parguera -- deserted and without electric lighting except for some intersections and the odd house.

Taking advantage of the darkness, one of the officer pulled over to urinate. When this physiological imperative was nearly over, he noticed that there was on object nearby -- hovering at low altitude and perfectly dark. Frightened, he ran back to his car. The object suddenly turned on its lights and followed them all the way back to Ensenada de Guanica. The object stopped following them once they reached the area that has good public lighting.

MY UFO EXPERIENCE: Family Witnesses Large Craft With Windows, Suffers After-Effects

Reader Submitted Report
[Unedited]
1-23-08

On the 17th of October, 1973. at 7:30 P.M. on XXXXX Rd, Lucasville, Ohio, my family and I were watching Television along with our Aunt & Uncle from North Carolina. The television started acting weird with a lot of static, it was a news program and the audio was telling about a lot of UFO sightings in Scioto Co.

My 11 year old son and two young cousins were making a big fuss and I suggested they go outside and look for UFO’s. (we all laughed) Then we heard the girls screaming and one ran back in to get me to look, I ran out because I heard real panic in her voice and she was white as a sheet! My son Jeff was looking up and he also appeared to be startled. I glanced up and saw a huge ball turning right and then it straightened its-self and hovered over us . It was shaped like a cigar with a dome on top and under the dome was a lot of windows, shaped like portholes. The lights were pure white (like fluorescent) the ship was the size of a large hotel hanging there, putting out a rosy hue all around. It was about 100 feet up overhead, it hovered for a minute and took off in a northerly direction. It was totally silent and so fast – gone!

We ran back into the house and was trying to ell family what we saw…..they poo pooed the whole thing and laughed it off. I thought about calling the sheriff or radio station and my husband told me that I would be making a fool of myself. So, I just got piece of paper and drew a picture of what I had seen, wrote down the date and time. I still have the drawing.

Then a strange thing happened to the four witnesses that night. My son was scared and asked if he could sleep with his Dad (which he did) and I slept in the guest room. I wasn’t frightened when I went to bed, but I woke up a few hours later and I have never known such fear in my life, I was literally paralyzed with fear! I couldn’t move but I sensed something evil in our front yard…..next day I asked Jeff if he got any sleep and he said no that he was cold and shook all night.

I later checked with the other two girls and one had slept on the floor beside her Mom and Dad and whimpered (12 years old) the other girl ,also 12 slept with her Mom & Dad. Both girls would not talk about what they had seen.

My son took the drawing I had made to school the following day and showed it to his science teacher and the teacher told him that he had seen the same thing at same time. He lived about 3 or 4 miles north of us. No one believed me!

Is There No End to the Excuses We’re Given?

By Dennis Balthaser
1-24-08

Dennis Balthers, UFO, Excuses, Michael Shermer, James McGaha, Skeptics, Larry King     In a previous editorial I mentioned that I don’t normally research UFO topics such as sightings, abductions, crop circles or cattle mutilations, while concentrating on Roswell, Area 51, Underground Bases and the Pyramids of Giza. I do however have an interest when a high profile case comes along, trying to stay abreast of how it develops, is reported, and normally swept under the rug in a short time period.

In the last 10 years, 3 cases of sightings have surfaced which have generated an interest for me, and the official response to each case by the military and/or government agencies have followed a similar pattern, as well as the major media outlets handling of the information.

Recent television “news” shows such as Larry King Live on CNN is a good example. Devoting too much airtime to skeptics and debunkers like Michael Shermer and James Magaha, does absolutely nothing to educate the public on the information available, from credible witnesses. Both of these gentlemen have an obvious agenda that appears to feed directly into the television show host’s biased reporting of these events. Just once, I would like to hear Shermer or Magaha admit that we possibly don’t know what these witnesses are seeing, and allow a serious investigation to transpire. In my own research I welcome opposing views that have factual information presented, believing that I can become a better researcher by such views. Shermer and Magaha cannot accept the fact that many of these witnesses that come forward are simply asking for someone in authority to explain to them what they saw. In my opinion neither of these two gentlemen fall in to the “someone in authority”category. Those that are in authority of course seem to have had a lot of experience in not being truthful with the witnesses and the public when making an official statement, going as far back as the Roswell Incident 60 years ago.

Retired military personnel, serious researchers like Stanton Friedman, and others are invited on the shows, but often times are cut off or interrupted by the host or skeptics not giving a fair balance to the viewing public that is desiring information, consequently coming away with distorted information

Another serious mistake hosts like Larry King make are comments such as, “do you believe in UFOs?” UFOs EXIST, and have for many years, and have been admitted to by the military as far back as the 1940’s and 50’s, so it’s not a matter of “if” they exist, but rather in my opinion, what these UFOs are, which have not satisfactorily been explained in the three cases I will mention later.

Many television documentaries on the subject of UFOs follow the same biased approach. A good example of one such show was the National Geographic special, in which researchers Stanton Friedman, Don Schmitt , myself and others devoted our years of research freely to filming of the show, only to have the debunkers override the show to an extremely biased conclusion.

Many shows on television (documentaries and news shows), as well as newspaper articles that do report UFO incidents, insist on bringing what I refer to as the “woo-woo” aspect into what could, and should be reported as a story that could well be the story of the millennium. Why then do the people in tinfoil hats, sci-fi film clips have to be included? If that is their way of being balanced they obviously don’t understand the subject of Ufology to begin with, and is it any wonder that the subject is not taken more seriously than it is, due to the reporting it receives?

If we are ever to have objective coverage of this subject, changes must be made not only how television documentaries are presented, but news media outlets should also be presented differently than what has become the norm. Many radio show hosts are trying to do this in live interviews they conduct with serious researchers and witnesses, and I compliment them for doing so.

As for the military and government agencies that do publicly get involved in trying to explain a certain case, their historical record is also extremely questionable, and seems to get worse with each case. Remember we have had four excuses for what happened in Roswell in 1947 in the past 60 years, and many of us believe we have still not been told the truth. The excuses given in most cases are not satisfactory, and it is disheartening to me that witnesses must be made to look like they are not qualified to comment on what they saw, when the truth in most cases is the simple fact that the witnesses don’t know what they saw, and the excuses given do not correlate with what they saw. Is it any wonder that most sightings go unreported because of the ridicule, embarrassment or threats the witnesses will have to deal with, if they report it?

Having been in the military myself, and a proud life-long American supporter of our troops, I believe those military personnel in the United States that are supposedly in a position of authority, and in fact speaking for the military, are deceiving the public and in some case outright lying to us, and it must stop.

The three cases that I mentioned earlier that I have been interested in following the developments of are the Phoenix lights, the O’Hare airport case, and recently the Stephenville, Texas case. In all three cases credible witnesses have come forward asking someone to explain to them what they saw and experienced.

Of the three cases, the Phoenix lights probably had the most witnesses, with many taking photographs and video film of the event. The excuse given by those in authority and still used by skeptics and debunkers, was that the Phoenix lights were flares being dropped by the Maryland Air National Guard. Since the government is experienced in spending our tax money without accountability, why not notify the public in Phoenix that the Guard will again drop flares over the same location, same time of night and altitude, so they can again be filmed and compared with the original event.

The O’Hare airport case also had credible witnesses, (pilots and ground personnel) that witnessed a craft over the second busiest airport in the country and our government and military didn’t seem concerned with National Security, waving it off as a weather phenomenon. United Airlines even tried preventing the witnesses from commenting.

And now we have the Stephenville, Texas case, again with what appear to be several credible witnesses, and the military original stated no aircraft were in the area of the sightings. “TWO WEEKS LATER”, in the interest of public awareness, the military admits it was in error, and had “TEN” F-16 Fighters in the air near Stephenville on the night of the sightings. How the hell does the military loose or not be able to account for 10 F-16’s, (that are not quiet), being in the area of the sightings 2 weeks later. MUFON investigators and others are still investigating the Stephenville case, and I’ll await their findings, but I feel the military explanation after a 2-week delay was again unacceptable.

In all my years of doing research, I thought the Air Force had shot themselves in the foot several times, particularly with the 1997 “crash test dummies” excuse for Roswell, but I really believe they have outdone themselves with the Stephenville Texas sighting, by not accounting for ten F-16s for two weeks. How much longer will the American public have to put up with the excuses we are being given, when all we want to know is what is actually being seen by credible people who help to pay the salaries of these individuals in authority, that continue to give us lame excuses. It’s time for accountability.

Area 52? Stephenville, The Truth is Out There

Stephenville Texas
By The Dallas Morning News
1-26-08

      Get the Men in Black.

Something strange happened in the sky over Erath County, and the government's changing story is way fishy.

The Air Force won't come clean. It's impossible to resist that otherworldly conclusion: visitors ... from outer space.

Do they walk among us? How can you tell a space alien from the average computer programmer?

Put away the tinfoil hats, and get serious. The government hid this stuff before.

The Air Force once admitted that a "disc" crashed near Roswell, N.M., then backed off and came up with a story about a weather balloon. They denied they had spacemen's bodies. (But you can Google up "proof" that they did.) New Mexico's own Gov. Bill Richardson talked about a Roswell cover-up at a presidential debate this year. (Proof on YouTube.com.) Another ex-candidate, straight-shooting Dennis Kucinich, admits he saw a New Mexico UFO that sent signals to his mind. (More YouTube.)

These guys were running for president. Would they make something up?

And why not trust the eyes of the hard-working people around Stephenville? A bunch of them saw the same things in the sky this month: slow-moving, direction-changing, glowing spheroids flying in formation.

Witnesses also saw military jets come in for a peek, but the Air Force first denied they were in the area. But here's that familiar pattern: Officials now say a whole squadron of F-16s was in the air. Why the shifting story? What did the jets see up there?

Here's the official line: "Operational procedures that can't be released." Swell. People see hovering flying things, and that's all we get? You could get better information from Dick Cheney.

Experience tells us you can't hide the truth forever; it was years before we heard that Roswell spaceship debris was carted off to the Air Force's mysterious Area 51 in Nevada.

Meantime, we swear by Orson Welles that there's no reason to panic here in Texas. If aliens meant us harm, we'd be earthling burgers by now.

Stephenville UFOs: Was the Air Force Protecting 'The Presidential Ranch?'

Stephenville Aviation Chart (Crpd)
By Don Ledger
1-25-08

Don Ledger (Sml)     I am beginning to suspect that the reason for the jets eing in the area was due to concerns about these anomalies being within 20 miles of the restricted airspace surrounding the Bush ranch.

The edge of the restricted zone designated as Class D airspace is only about 16 miles southeast of the center of Stephenville. Pilot Davis's sighting was about halfway between Stephenville and the northwestern arc of the Class D airspace in Selden. In the center of that circular airspace is a 4-5 nautical mile circle designated prohibited airspace. The outer circle is 60 nautical miles [69 statute miles] in diameter centered on the ranch.

In effect this prohibited area is scant minutes away from the sightings areas.

The launching of F-16s into the areas outside the MOA Military Operational Area] southwest of Stephenville now makes sense as do the hamfisted attempts to cover up the presence of F-16s in the area. I would be surprised if military assets were not tasked to that area if they suddenly had unknowns showing up on their radar and near such a sensitive area. This need not be because of a UFO event but some unknown "aircraft" suspected of - and being treated as - terrorist in nature.

What puzzles me is this. It is no secret that the Bush ranch is close-by, how come the press never picked up on this? I had no idea that this was the case until I saw it on Joel's scan of the air chart. I can be excused living 4,000 miles away in Nova Scotia but where are the local newspapers in this from Dallas for example.

Dallas-Fort Worth Air Traffic Control (Dallas TRACON) would have been well aware of the F-16s since they came from that field and which should have been squawking military Transponder Codes southwest of their field for safety's sake.

Anyway It has me wondering if the reason for the fibbing about the F-16 presence wasn't more to do about concerns about the anomalies violating the airspaces I mentioned above.

Skeptics Still Abound in the Stephenville UFO Sightings—This Time of the Military

A recent Air Force Reserve news release claims the UFO sightings in Stephenville, Texas, on Jan. 8 were really ten of their F-16 fighter jets on a nighttime training mission in the area. This flies in the face of their earlier denying of activity in the area. “In the interest of public awareness, Air Force Reserve Command Public Affairs realized an error was made regarding the reported training activity of military aircraft," the news release says.

But there are some skeptics.

Carman Wiese is a member of the Del Rio Mutual UFO Network organization, a 30-something strong group that is linked to the national MUFON chapter. The local chapter meets the second Tuesday of every month at the Ramada Sun Blossom Room from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. to talk about recent UFO phenomena. Wiese, owner of Del Rio Home Oxygen & Medical Supplies, is one of two local chapter members who is a credentialed field investigator for surveying sightings like the recent one in Stephenville.

Wiese and some of the other local MUFON members have been following the Stephenville case. Her reaction to the military’s recent admission is skeptical.

“This is the same thing the military seems to do, as in the Phoenix Lights case: deny it, and then when they think up a good explanation, they come back with that,” Wiese says. “My opinion is, we had a pilot [witness]. And it concerns me if our pilots can’t recognize regular military aircraft.”

The Phoenix Lights phenomenon happened in the late 90s. People in Arizona, Nevada, and the Mexican state of Sonora witnessed a series of UFOs and strange light formations. Wiese says then-Governor Fife Symington had originally poked fun at the event, but has recently come out as a witness.

Wiese is not the only one to balk at the military’s claim. One of Stephenville’s most credible witnesses is sticking to his guns, even after the military news.

“I’ve had one of the news people read the [Air Force] news release to me over the telephone,” says Erath County Constable Lee Roy Gaitan, who says he saw bright, flashing white lights on Jan. 8 that circled and bounced before aligning in a formation and taking off faster than his eyes could follow.

“I’m a little bit—disappointed that our military could make a mistake,” Gaitan says. “I don’t think it was a mistake. I really believe there was so much pressure put on the military that eventually someone said ‘okay’ . . . I’m not saying this was a flying aircraft, flying spaceship from another universe. I really believe it’s some type of military project, experiment that was going on. And they never expected to have as many people come out, saying what they did. And the media didn’t let it go.

“I believe it was something, in the long run, they were doing something that was in our best interest. Security . . . But I don’t respect the fact that they come back two weeks later and say ‘We made a mistake.’ We are supposed to be a lead military in the world.”

Gaitan says if the military had as many fighter planes in the air as they claimed, they should have just be open about them being the area originally. “Don’t get on the news and say, ‘We didn’t have any planes in the air that night,’” he says. “But I did not see fighter jets. [Those were] certainly not the lights I saw. If [they] were F-16s, they were doing something I’ve never seen them do.”

Larry King & UFOs in Texas

By CNN

Was there a UFO sighting in Texas or not?

People saw something, but what?

Lots of controversy, lots of talking a cover-up next on LARRY KING LIVE.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: There was no even trail of any kind of flare behind it. It was a solid object with lights.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: All of a sudden, at one time, they all just shot off in this direction over here.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I can't explain it. We couldn't explain it. But it was real.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

KING: We're back. Earlier this month, several people witnessed mysterious lights in the Texas skies, and we sent our cameras to Stephenville, Texas to check out their claims. This is what we learned. (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Look off this way, we have some lights approaching us at a high rate of speed. Came within probably a mile of us, about 3,000 foot over the ground, very unusual lights, not from around here. It went past us towards Stephenville.

The lights reconfigured, turned into flames, and then it disappeared.

It came back by this way, and it had two military jets in pursuit.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I looked back to the Southwest and there was a very bright light. A couple of seconds later, the second light came on. The next day, a friend of mine calls, and tells me about a UFO sighting that had come over my house. I'm not saying I saw a UFO, but with all the reports from everybody else, apparently that's what I saw.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: They came right across the sky, across the northern edge of Stephenville, Texas, which I'm two blocks from the courthouse right here. They were quite large, and moved quite slowly. They were at low altitude and made absolutely no noise at all.

They were glowing red. The lights were moving together as though they were in formation, or attached together in some way, invisibly or something, I don't know. We don't know what they were.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

KING: Originally, the Air Force said nothing was going on in the area, but now they claim they were training that night. Is that true or is this a cover up? Let's meet our panel to see what they make of this information.

Here in Los Angeles, Captain Robert Salas, the United States Air Force, retired. Back in 1967, Bob was a missile launch officer at Maelstrom Air Force Base in Montana. He says a UFO hovered over his nuclear missile sight and disabled all the missiles. He wrote a book about it called "Faded Giant." In Washington, James Fox, the documentary filmmaker of "Out of the Blue." and in San Francisco, Michael Shermer, the publisher of "Skeptic Magazine," author of a new book titled "The Mind of the Market."

I know you weren't involved in this, captain, but does this story surprise you?

CAPT. ROBERT SALAS (RET), UNITED STATES AIR FORCE: It does not surprise me at all. Seems like every time there's a credible UFO story out there that involves the Air Force, the Air Force has some kind of reason to discredit it. Certainly, that was the case in my story, also.

KING: We're now also joined by Sergeant Jim Penniston, United States Air Force, retired, as is Captain Salas. He was a Woodbridge security supervisor at the Brentwaters Woodbridge Base. He said he sat with a UFO on the ground for 45 minutes before it hovered over him and shot into the air. Why weren't you taken seriously, sergeant?

SGT. JIM PENNISTON (RET), UNITED STATES AIR FORCE: Well, I believe that at the time, we were taken very seriously, just that I think the Air Force wanted to go ahead and make sure that they had a handle on the situation.

KING: James Fox, I know you have been probing this for a long time. We have never got an answer to this. Why do you think the Air Force doesn't want this out?

JAMES FOX, AUTHOR, "OUT OF THE BLUE": What are they going to say? We don't know what's flying around with impunity?

KING: Why can't they say that?

FOX: I wish they would. If the Air Force is listening tonight, why don't you tell us the truth?

KING: Why do you think they don't?

FOX: I think to admit that there are objects of unknown origin flying around in our airspace with impunity, that can fly rings around our fastest jets, they probably are fearful of releasing that information. I want to say something --

KING: Hold on, Jim. Michael, now that they have said that there were objects flying in the sky, do you think this is a cover up here or this is a cop out? What do you make of it?

MICHAEL SHERMER, "SKEPTIC MAGAZINE": I think before we assume that there's some sort of conspiratorial cover up, we have to remember that, you know, bureaucratic agencies are not always going to be swift to give a proper answer until they check with channels on what can be given to the American public in the interest of national security.

Remember, we're at war, so we are not likely going to be told about top secret aircraft and so on. Somebody has to check with somebody, has to check with somebody up top before they leak it to the press what was actually going on. We should expect that kind of thing, not a cover up, just national security interest.

KING: Do you think Captain Salas is lying? Do you think --

SHERMER: No, not at all. I think we're not always reliable observers. It's hard to say. We misunderstand, honestly misunderstand or misperceive things. I think before we say something is out of this world, let's first make sure that it's not in it. And just because we can't explain something doesn't mean it's, you know, extraterrestrial.

KING: I have to get a break, let me pick up with that and more on the comments of Michael right after this.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Bunch of BS. If you all want to believe it, that's fine with me.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: There was something that just came straight across our house and then just zoomed right on off. And I don't know what it was, so --

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I think it was just low flying airplane.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Do you think your wife's crazy --

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: No, it was not. I guarantee you it was not.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: OK.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

KING: Captain Salas, Michael is saying that you're not corrupt or anything, you just didn't see what you saw.

SALAS: I said I didn't even see a UFO. I was in a capsule, 60 feet under ground, and the UFO was reported by my topside guard. A bright red oval object hovering outside the front gate.

KING: He told you?

SALAS: He told me in very -- he was very agitated, frightened when he told me this over the phone. Now, the reason I believe that what he told me was true is because they had no access to our missile system. They had no way to control it. While this object was up there, my missiles shut down. And, these Minuteman Missiles are very reliable, as you might imagine. Nuclear weapons we're talking about here.

KING: Shut down.

SALAS: They shut down one after the other. I remember losing all of them. And not only that, but ten more missiles were shut down under similar circumstances; UFOs were observed at another launch control facility. So, this is 20 missiles in 1967 were shut down with UFOs.

KING: And sergeant, you sat with a UFO on the ground?

PENNISTON: Yes, I fully investigated it, myself and my team. We went around and checked the parameter of the craft out. We measured it. We took temperature readings. We took photographs. We did a complete examination, thorough examination of the craft on the ground.

FOX: Penniston, talk about the symbols that you saw on the craft. I find that remarkable.

PENNISTON: Well, the symbols -- if it wasn't astonishing enough just to have a craft like that in front of you, then, looking for crew compartments and things like that, and intakes, we find -- measuring about three feet, we find symbols that were etched into the side of the craft, that to this day, I have no idea what they are, but it's amazing.

KING: Where did the craft go?

PENNISTON: Well, after the 45 minutes, Larry, it went up -- it lifted off. It started emulating a very bright light. And it started to raise to tree top level, and then it momentarily sat there above the tree line and then took off at incredible rate of speed.

KING: Did it make a lot of sound?

FOX: No sound.

KING: No sound. James, you weren't there. Let him tell me.

FOX: Sorry.

KING: It made no sound, Jim?

PENNISTON: No sound, Larry. And the most interesting part that I found about it is that there was no air displacement. I mean, something leaving that fast has to have sonic booms. It was literally gone in a blink of an eye. It had to have air disturbance.

KING: James, we have asked you this before; why wasn't the Sergeant Penniston and the Captain Salas story front page news?

FOX: I don't know. You are forcing me to speculate, Larry.

KING: That's all we can do.

FOX: I think the lack of an explanation -- clearly, the Air Force feels compelled to come up with a conventional explanation, when clearly there just isn't one. We were in Stephenville for the last three with a whole camera crew, interviewing witnesses, and whatever it was, it certainly wasn't military jets, because, you know, a silent flight, 90 degree angle turns.

KING: I will go back to this. So, the -- let's forget the Air Force. The "New York Times" doesn't believe you? They don't believe Captain Salas. They don't believe Sergeant Penniston. They don't believe you. Right? Is that what our guess is? They don't believe you?

FOX: I think the tables are turning, don't you, Jim?

SALAS: Well, you know what, here is what I find. Let's talk about Texas, if you don't mind, about the Air Force in Texas. Here is a public relations officers, right, they release a statement from the 301st, saying that they made an error. I'm going to tell you right now, 21 years in the service, the Air Force don't release statements that say they made an error.

What they are doing is covering their tracks. If they said there were ten aircraft out there, out there in the area --

KING: Jim, I got to get a break. We'll come back to you. I want to get Michael's response to this. We are close on time.

Anderson Cooper will host "AC 360" at the top of the hour. What's up, Anderson?

ANDERSON COOPER, CNN ANCHOR: We have breaking news from the campaign trail. A major endorsement that could have a major impact on two Republican -- one Republican and one Democratic candidate.

Also, Senator Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama in South Carolina today with the important primary less than 48 hours today. Senator Clinton returning to the state with a revised strategy, one her husband, President Clinton, talked about today. We will examine that closely.

We'll also take a closer look at accusations about Senator Obama, charges that he worked for a slum lord in Chicago. There's, of course, much more to it. We will keep them honest.

And searching for the Fountain of Youth some people think they found it. It's called Human Growth Hormone, HGH. A lot of celebrities in Hollywood are using it. How it can help and how it can hurt, tonight on 360.

KING: That's Anderson Cooper, "AC 360," 10:00, 7:00 Pacific. Tomorrow night, Ringo Starr is our special guest. We'll be right back.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Moved through the forest, bobbing and avoiding trees. Something broke into other objects. I definitely saw something under intelligent control that could do things that I don't think any human can do. I went out to disprove what I had heard had taken place, and was thinking at the time, why did I ever get involved in this? Nobody's going to believe me.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: You can't deny it. It did happen. It's proven that it did happen. I can't explain it. We couldn't explain it. But it was real.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

KING: Michael Shermer, do these accounts seem ill-founded to you?

SHERMER: Well, not ill-founded. We're not perfect observers, and I think it's important to remember that the general public, all of us, and most people in government are way behind the curve of whatever experimental technologies the Air Force may be working on. And, you know, we didn't find out about the U-2 Spy Plane until one was shot down. We didn't find out about the Stealth Bomber until many years after it had been flying over the Mojave desert.

In fact, it flies over my house in Pasadena every January 1st over the New Years Rose Parade. And it's really spooky looking. It's quiet. It's black like a hole in the sky. You don't hear it. Imagine that it was dusk and we didn't know about it, it would easily be interpreted as a UFO.

KING: Why do you disbelieve it, though?

SHERMER: I don't. I need to make a distinction between are there extraterrestrial out there somewhere and have they come here. Science, by nature, is skeptical. I publish "Skeptic Magazine," that's what we do. Because there are so many strange ideas out there, usually that don't turn out to be true, it's -- the default option is skepticism until you prove otherwise.

KING: Michael, would you have laughed, for example, at the Wright Brothers?

SHERMER: But we actually have the plane, and --

FOX: I want to say something really quickly.

SHERMER: -- Actual physical evidence.

FOX: We need to make the distinction. We're not talking about extraterrestrial. We're not talking about aliens. A UFO is a exactly that. It's an unidentified flying object. A lot of these citings defy conventional explanations. Why can't we just say we don't know what it was?

SHERMER: Of course we can.

FOX: We're not talking about aliens. You are the only one talking about aliens. We're not talking about aliens.

SHERMER: Your film is based on aliens.

(CROSS TALK)

KING: Captain?

SALAS: The point I want to make is, my incident happened in 1967. We have an object that hovered over our launch control facility, not only ours, but another launch control facility, disabled ten nuclear missiles. So, if the question is, was that a U.S. experimental aircraft 40 years ago, why haven't we seen that aircraft today.

SHERMER: Well, there were hover aircraft in the late '50s.

SALAS: This was not an aircraft, sir.

SHERMER: It's hard to say. You are the only eye witness to that. The difference between constructing an entire new world view based on fragments of evidence, you can't really do that. FOX: Fragments of evidence? There's not fragments of evidence. Go to the archives, Mr Shermer, and look into it, and you can easily establish beyond a shadow of a doubt that flying saucers have been whizzing around our air space since the '40s.

(CROSSTALK)

FOX: You agree with me that 95 percent of those are explained.

(CROSSTALK)

KING: We are going to take a break and be right back with some more moments. Don't go away.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

KING: We're back. James Fox, why not a Congressional hearing into all of this?

FOX: we had congressional hearings back in '66, I believe in '68. It's time we had more Congressional hearings. People have to get together and put pressure from their constituents to your representative, and we need to get this thing over with. This is ridiculous.

KING: Sergeant Penniston, does it bug you that while the polls say 80 percent of the public believes there have been Unidentified Flying Objects, you tend -- people like you are not believed.

PENNISTON: You know, I -- it doesn't really bother me if they don't believe. I think the evidence is overwhelming. And, it's also compelling to believe that if these are unexplainable events, which the military clearly has demonstrated, then I would think that there would be higher numbers than that, as far as people believing in some type of the extraterrestrial craft. I would believe that.

KING: You think, Captain Salas, we're ever going to get the whole story?

SALAS: That's a good question, but I think we need to have the hearings. We need -- there's a preponderance of good witnesses out there that are ready, willing, able to testify. All my witnesses that I outline in my book, most of them are still alive, and would be more than willing to testify.

KING: In all honesty, I just recently ran into someone who, very logical person, who saw the Texas incident. He said, they were moving fast. They were making no sound. They were not airplanes. He wasn't crazy, Michael.

FOX: Can I say one thing really quickly?

KING: Hold it, James. Go ahead, Michael.

SHERMER: In science, there is the residue problem. In any given field, there's a residue of unexplained anomalies that no theory can account for every single one. So, James and I, for example, agree that 90 to 95 percent of all these thousands of sightings are explainable.

FOX: I agree.

SHERMER: What we're talking about is just that extra five or ten percent we can't explain. So, why not investigate, sure. But let's not construct a whole new world view around that.

FOX: We're not constructing a whole new world view. But I want to say really quickly, I met with a gentleman in Stephenville who unfortunately is not willing to go on the record right now because he's being harassed by the military. He's asked the military to stop harassing him. Their response is, stop talking about what you saw. And it's the most unambiguous -- he didn't see lights. He saw the craft.

SHERMER: Well --

FOX: And it was huge.

KING: They don't want him to talk about it?

FOX: He said, stop harassing me. They said, you stop talking about what you saw. I believe this guy. From the core of his being, he was being honest with me. There are being people harassed right now by the military, telling them to shut up.

SHERMER: What if it is a top secret military aircraft we don't want --

FOX: We should know about that technology. If they have technology that can fly around without making any sound without disturbing the wind, talking off in the flash of an eye -- it's obviously not getting here on Jet A fuel. With climate change and all these other issues, we should know about this technology. We paid for it.

SHERMER: In part, that's true. Except, on a need to know basis, there are certain national security reasons that people --

FOX: Then they've been hiding these craft for 60 years now. And I don't believe that.

KING: What are they afraid of, Michael?

SHERMER: Well, because if we have technologies, we don't want our enemies to know about. Naturally, we're not going to share it.

KING: Wait a minute. Iran is going to say, you -- we're going to do more on this. You never run out of stuff. Thanks for coming. Captain Salas' book is "Faded Giant."

UFO Witness Lee Roy Gaitan on Larry King Live Tonight

A recent Air Force Reserve news release claims UFO sightings in Stephenville, Texas, on Jan. 8 were really ten of their F-16 fighter jets on a nighttime training mission. This information contradicts their earlier denying of activity in the area. “In the interest of public awareness, Air Force Reserve Command Public Affairs realized an error was made regarding the reported training activity of military aircraft," the news release says.

Witnesses aren’t so sure.

I really believe it’s some type of military project, experiment that was going on. And they never expected to have as many people come out, saying what they did. And the media didn’t let it go.

Gaitan says if the military had as many fighter planes in the air as they claimed, they should have just told the truth originally. “Don’t get on the news and say, ‘We didn’t have any planes in the air that night,’” he says. “But I did not see fighter jets. [Those were] certainly not the lights I saw. If [they] were F-16s, they were doing something I’ve never seen them do.”

Larry King Live staff is trying to get a media truck from Dallas to Gaitan’s house by 8 p.m. Central time to do an on-site update interview. Gaitan assumes King will want to talk about the new military findings. Local Mandatory FM morning talk show host Pamela Stone, who has interviewed past Larry King guest James Fox, author of UFO documentary “Out of the Blue,” says she’s heard the story will be about the military’s possible harassment of some Stephenville witnesses.
