UFOs Over Russia's Lake Baikal

UFO Over Lake Baikal

People in cities and towns near Siberia's Lake Baikal have reported seeing a mysterious bright object flying slowly through the sky, and posted videos and photos online to corroborate their accounts, Russian news reports said Wednesday.

The reports of “UFO” sightings poured in from scores of people in the Irkutsk region, near Lake Baikal, the local branch of the state-run Rossia-1 television network reported.

The object resembled a meteorite, but seemed much brighter and was moving too slowly, witnesses were quoted as saying.

Sergei Yazev, a senior research scientist from the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics who watched the videos, said the “slow velocity is extremely uncharacteristic for a comet or a bolide.” [...]

"Sometimes, even governments seem to prefer people think what they saw was aliens, and not the government's secret activities."

When a spectacular bright object descended from the evening sky on Nov. 17 over several cities in Siberia, many people thought they were seeing a UFO -- especially when an official explanation of the event wasn't immediately offered.

The following video, posted to YouTube by PE Omsk -- a local Siberian news service -- shows the object as it was captured on videotape by citizens at different locations:

Initial theories and online comments ran the gamut from UFO to an alien wormhole connecting our galactic neighborhood to another, to an undisclosed secret military rocket launch. [...]

The bizarre object was found buried 40 metres underground by excavators working in Siberia, Russia
Do these intriguing images show a UFO that fell to Planet Earth from outer space thousands of years ago, embedding itself deep in the ground?

The bizarre flying saucer-shaped object was dug up during excavation work by a coal mining company in Siberia's Kuznetsk Basin, Russia.

Archaeologists, were called in to examine the 'craft', which the excavators believe is a man-made object, describing it as a "mystery".

However, sky-watchers are convinced it fell from space.

The unusual object is almost perfectly circular, with a diameter of around 1.2 metres and weighing roughly 440lbs - that's 31 stone.

Excavator Boris Glazkov, 40, who found the object, said: "I have to say it wasn't hard to see as it was really distinctive and large.

"I've never seen anything like this object, which is obviously man-made out, here in the middle of nowhere before. It is a real mystery." . . .

Scientists Descend into Mysterious Siberian Crater (2) - Nov 2014

Haunting beauty of massive hole as scientists examine frozen lake formed after giant blowout.

A mission this week to the newly-formed crater on the Yamal Peninsula in northern Siberia is expected throw fresh light on how this and other such phenomenon were formed. Experts are working on a theory that gas hydrates caused underground explosions in the same way as eruptions under the Atlantic Ocean may have led to the Bermuda Triangle phenomenon.

Our new pictures show how, for the first time, scientists used climbing equipment to reach the base of the crater - a lake at least 10.5 metres deep with a frozen surface.

Leader of the new mission, Vladimir Pushkarev, director of the Russian Centre of Arctic Exploration, told The Siberian Times: 'We managed to go down into the funnel, all was successful. We used climbing equipment, and it is easier to do this in winter, than in summer, with the ground now hard.

'We took all the probes we planned, and made measurements. Now scientists need time to process all the data and only then can they draw conclusions.'

The funnel of the crater is about 16.5 metres deep, not including an earthen rampart on the surface, formed in the blowout, of several metres in height. . . .

Strange 'Spikes' Spotted In Siberia By ISS Astronauts - August 2014

Astronauts looking down on Earth from the International Space Station in June were left scratching their heads when they spotted a “strange pattern of spikes" crossing Siberia's Kulunda Steppe.

The astronauts were so puzzled that they called down to Houston to ask for an explanation, according to NASA. But only recently have scientists at the agency's Johnson Space Center been able to explain what the astronauts were looking at when they saw the dark green spikes stretching over the rural landscape. . . .

Reindeer herders find more craters in the far north in a deepening puzzle for scientists.

Millions of people around the world glimpsed the first giant hole after it was revealed by The Siberian Times . . .. Now news has emerged of two new similar formations in the permafrost, prompting more intrigue about their creation.

Theories range from meteorites, stray missiles, a man-made prank, and aliens, to an explosive cocktail of methane or shale gas suddenly exploding. The version about melting permafrost due to climate change, causing a release of methane gas, which then forces an eruption is the current favorite, though scientists are reluctant to offer a firm conclusion without more study. . . .

Experts examine the newly-discovered hole in the earth in Siberia.

The crater on the Yamal Peninsula was caused by aliens, a meteorite, a stray missile, or an explosive gas cocktail released due to global warming, according to various theories in recent days.

Images of the remarkable phenomenon have gone round the world since The Siberian Times highlighted helicopter images of the giant hole earlier this week.

The first expedition to the scene - the scientists have just returned - took these epic pictures of the hole, including the darkening pattern on the inner rim.

Now they are using Russian satellite pictures to fix the moment when it suddenly formed.

They found the crater - around up to 70 metres deep - has an icy lake at its bottom, and water is cascading down its eroding permafrost walls. . . .

Mysterious 'Gigantic' Hole Appears in Siberia - Scientists Sent to Invesigate

By The Siberian Times

Mysterious 'gigantic' hole in remote region spotted by helicopters over gas-rich Yamal peninsula. The striking puncture in the earth is believed to be up to 80 metres wide but its depth is not estimated yet. A scientific team has been sent to investigate the hole and is due to arrive at the scene on Wednesday.

The cause of its sudden appearance in Yamal - its name means the 'end of the world' in the far north of Siberia - is not yet known, though one scientific claim is that global warming may be to blame.

There is additionally speculation it could be caused by a space object - perhaps a meteorite - striking earth or that it is a sinkhole caused by collapsing rock beneath the hole caused by as yet unknown factors. . . .

RUSSIAN space experts are seeking to solve the mystery of 'a UFO fragment' which crashed close to a remote village in Siberia.

The 'silver U-shaped device' weighs 200 kilos, has does not appear to be a rocket or a missile - or a remnant of earthly space technology.

‘The object found is not related to space technology. A final conclusion can be made after a detailed study of the object by experts,' said the Russian space agency Roscosmos.

Locals insist the metallic object - resembling a large shiny rubbish bin - fell from the skies. The object is six feet long and is at least partially made of titanium steel.

It's now under police guard as interest in the 'visitor' intensifies.

SIX passenger planes reported seeing a UFO near a town named after Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space.

The pilot of a London to Moscow flight reported spotting a "burning object" followed by a smoke trail travelling at high speed over Gagarin, in western Russia.

An hour later six mysterious red dots were seen in the sky, hundreds of miles away in Siberia.

The Russian Defence Ministry denied any stray missiles or other military objects were in the vicinity of Gagarin at around 7.30pm local time last Thursday.

The Siberian sighting came at 11.30pm the same night.
