Declassified files reveal the Government was concerned the Soviet Union or China had impounded a UFO and were harvesting its secrets to develop super-fast warplanes.

The cache of documents reveal between 1947 to 1997, intelligence services ran two UFO desks - one was a public-facing desk where people could phone in sightings. The real work was carried out in the background by spies set to investigate.

THE public may never learn of the recent UFO sightings made by pilots in our skies thanks to a piece of EU legislation, it has emerged. Airline staff report a number of strange sightings to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) every year, it is understood.

Since the MoD closed its UFO desk in 2009, the CAA has become the last British government organisation to retain an interest in UFOs and keep files on incidents involving civilian aircrews.

But it has decided not to release a dossier detailing sightings or incidents between 2011 and 2017.

SPECIAL branch operatives tailed a UFO cult leader who said he was in telepathic contact with aliens, it emerged today.

     The bizarre high-level decision saw Scotland Yard’s finest infiltrating rallies and meetings of George King's secretive ‘space society’ amid fears it was a front for Russian spies.

The former London cabbie claimed he could communicate with an alien called Aetherius, who was orbiting Mars.

In another of his freakish outbursts he warned the public that space travellers from Venus were already living among them.

However, it has now emerged that detectives from the Metropolitan Police feared his zany antics may have been an elaborate front for Soviet moles.

They launched a five-year surveillance operation into his activities, which was revealed for the first time today after Scotland Yard unsealed top secret documents . . ..
