HECKER, IL (CNN/KPLR) -- Some people in southern Illinois are reporting something strange hovering in the skies in recent days and nobody knows what it is. We've got images of the lights from a local newspaper, and they bring to mind the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." At the Hecker Country Store it's been the hot topic of discussion all day long. Hecker Country Store owner Angel Andrews says, "Everybody keeps coming in, starting at breakfast through lunch, stating they saw something in the sky." What they've seen has them all mystified. Judy Rachell says, "Large, bright light with four lights around it rotating, some have said its single, bright solid colored light, others have said it's red, green, yellow and pink just rotating around." . . .

UFO Over Hecker, Illinois 10-23-12

By Monroe County Independent
10-23-12

A rural Hecker resident reported to the Monroe County dispatcher that on Oct. 23, just after 7 p.m., that a bright object was viewable hovering just over the horizon to the northeast of Hecker. It was suspicious because the witness stated the object appeared to be lower than the normal viewable stars / planets.

Monroe and St. Clair County deputies patrolled the area and set up a viewing area in rural Paderborn along Floraville Road. The object remained stationary and twinkled with red, green, blue and orange light. Witnesses reported the object drifting slightly at about 8 p.m.

After 8 p.m., the object appeared to slowly rise and soon after a second strong light was visible closer to the horizon from what appeared to be closer to the Freeburg area. The second object also appeared to emit / twinkle with the red, green, blue and orange light, reports the witnesses. The objects continued to hover and with no present danger, the deputies headed back to their evening patrols, while other folks remained watching using a telescope.

Scott Air Force Base was contacted and they reported not having any air craft flying in that part of the area. . . .
