NASA Is Sending a Spacecraft to a Metal Asteroid

An ambitious mission to a "world made of metal" will help scientists better understand how Earth and other rocky planets evolved, according to a new video from NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.

The Psyche mission will depart Earth in 2022. The original plan called for a launch in 2023, but NASA moved up the timeline to save on cost and arrive at the asteroid sooner. Under the new plan, the spacecraft will pick up speed with a Mars flyby and arrive at the asteroid, also called Psyche, in early 2026.

Colossal Sunspot On Sun is Large Enough to Swallow Six Earths, Says NASA

Huge Sunspot May Trigger Solar Activity & Flares, NASA Says

A colossal sunspot on the surface of the sun is large enough to swallow six Earths whole, and could trigger solar flares this week, NASA scientists say.

The giant sunspot was captured on camera by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory as it swelled to enormous proportions over the 48 hours spanning Tuesday and Wednesday (Feb. 19 and 20). SDO is one of several spacecraft that constantly monitor the sun's space weather environment.

"It has grown to over six Earth diameters across, but its full extent is hard to judge since the spot lies on a sphere, not a flat disk," wrote NASA spokeswoman Karen Fox, of the agency's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., in an image description.

The sunspot region is actually a collection of dark blemishes on the surface of the sun that evolved rapidly over the last two days. Sunspots form from shifting magnetic fields at the sun's surface, and are actually cooler than their surrounding solar material. . . .

Researcher of things psychic and UFO Ray Stanford found what appears to be a 30cm wide dinosaur footprint on the Goddard Space Flight Center campus. NASA officials did not wish to make public the exact location where the print was found.

The precise whereabouts of the fossilized track are kept secret for the moment as officials fear someone could try to destroy or remove it from the site.

Stanford is a self-taught fossil hunter. During his lifetime he found more than 1400 dinosaur tracks. He is well known for his special visual talent that allows him to see things other people don't see. The finding happened after Stanford picked up a slice of what appeared to be a brown rock. He immediately realized he found the mark of a toe. . . .
