Roswell’s UFO Festival To Go On Virtually


     The COVID-19 pandemic has forced some of the biggest events in New Mexico to cancel. The UFO Festival was scheduled to take place this weekend before it was canceled. However, Roswell is still going forward with a different kind of festival.

“I’m just really blown away by the positive, the positivity you know,” said Marie Manning. MainStreet Roswell, the organizers for the UFO Festival said even though they are not allowed to hold the traditional festival that everyone is used to, they have decided to hold a virtual one instead.

Roswell’s UFO Festival Canceled Due to Coronavirus



     The 2020 UFO Festival and Roswell Galacticon have been canceled due to the coronavirus. The event will not be rescheduled according to MainStreet Roswell and the Roswell Galacticon that made the announcement Monday.

“Oh it’s a complete bummer,” said Laney Smith President of MainStreet Roswell.

The city announced that this year’s UFO Festival has been canceled due to the coronavirus. Coordinators said it was not an easy decision knowing people plan for this all year. People come to the festival from all over the world and organizers want to keep everyone safe.

Roswell's ‘UFOlogist Invasion’ Cancelled, But Festival Still a Go

     International UFO Museum and Research Center deputy director Karen Jaramillo announced on Wednesday that the 2020 UFOlogist Invasion — a major part of the UFO Festival in July — would be canceled.

“The uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic brings concern for near-future events. The safety and well-being of our employees, speakers, visitors and community remain a top priority. Although it was a difficult decision, it was the responsible one. We hope to see you all at the 2021 UFOlogist Invasion,” Jaramillo wrote in a press release issued Wednesday.

     With Coronavirus spreading rapidly across the nation, the city of Roswell says they’re doing their best to keep things under control.

“We are alert to the situation,” Mayor Dennis Kintigh said. “We don’t have any cases that I'm aware of in Roswell and we hope to keep it that way.”

“We don’t have any plans at this time to postpone or cancel, but we will be relying on those governmental agencies to make that determination if it comes to that.”
