UFO Sighting Over Knotts Berry Farm?

UFO Sighting Over Knotts Berry Farm

Is it a bird? A plane? Or perhaps -- gasp -- a UFO? Those are the questions being asked about an iPhone picture taken at Knotts Berry Farm in Buena Park.

"This photo is extremely creepy," said Ryan Boone, who claims to have snapped the shot Tuesday before 10 p.m., while waiting in line to ride the Xcelerator rollercoaster.

The 31-year-old Beverly Hills resident sent the photo (original pic) to NBCLA. The photo, which Boone claims is not doctored, shows part of the coaster and looming above it, is a glowing, triangular object in the sky.

"At first I thought it had to be a glare, but there was nothing in the sky to glare off of," said Boone.

He laughed, "I've never been a believer in UFOs until I took this photo and saw it with my own eyes."

  1. I didn't quite catch whether it was seen before hand...real time...or if it was only seen upon later viewing of the pic.

If it was simply a question of the image showing up, after the fact, I would have to say it is an inverted, negative image, of the "street light" which is in the foreground.

They are both squares, and at roughly the same angle.

  3. Bob, lgranados,

Thanks for taking time to make comment!

    The witness/photographer writes:

"At first I thought it had to be a glare, but there was nothing in the sky to glare off of . . . I've never been a believer in UFOs until I took this photo and saw it with my own eyes."

Seems he's saying he saw it with his own eyes. In doing some quick analysis with my photographic software, I don't feel it's a "stand alone" negative image. The "UFO" has sharp engines and multiple colors, opposed to the "white blob" of the light with undefined or blurry edges. Methinks an "untouched" double image would be "more exact."

At first glance, it gives the appearance of having lights on each tip and one in the middle, which made me think of "airplane" nav-lights along with a "nose" and or landing light. Of course this doesn't explain the "diamond shape."

He claims the picture was "untouched" . . . I wonder if it was "cropped" and there is in fact something we're not seeing that could be the source for a "double-image?"

On a final note, given the fact that this was supposed to have been taken with an I-Phone; if there was an object and it was moving at enough speed that "no one else saw it" (opposed to hovering), one would think there would be "motion blur" in contrast to the static objects.

    Cheers,
    Frank
