UFOs Caught By Canadian News Crew

A video shot outside of Vancouver, British Columbia, during a forest fire unexpectedly captured a lot more than firefighting efforts.

On July 17, 2014, Castanet.net, a news organization in Western Canada, posted a video shot in West Kelowna -- northeast of Vancouver -- featuring efforts to stop the Smith Creek Wildfire.

Here's the original Castanet.net video report, showing the UFO at approximately 26 seconds:

"In the news piece, a bright object appears from behind clouds above the fire area quickly moving left to right," according to Castanet.net. The news site revealed the following description from a witness who noticed the unusual aerial object in the video:
Shot out from the clouds above the mountain during a forest fire near our neighborhood. It pulled a wisp of cloud with it as it exited.

A forest fire broke out on the mountain behind us and during the attempt to put it out, this event took place.

I was watching a video online of the fire from a little earlier in the day and I spotted the UFO 37 seconds in. I have no idea whether anyone else has noticed this or not. Most folks would be focused on the fire.

37 seconds into the video the UFO comes shooting out from a cloud right above the mountain and passes through a clear spot back into the next cloud. I was quite startled and surprised when I saw it.

The UFO left a thin trail of cloud vapor as it exited the cloud. This, to me, eliminates any thought that this might be a camera lens artifact or light phenomenon effect.

The event lasted only a few seconds. Judging by the distance I was from the object it had to have been moving very fast. The scene cuts away while the UFO is still visible. I'm left to assume that there must be more footage of it than I saw.

I phoned the website's news department to ask if it would be possible to see the full footage, but was met with disapproval. In retrospect, perhaps I shouldn't have mentioned the word UFO.

Vancouver a Hotspot for Sightings from Outerspace | VIDEO

Vancouver a Hotspot for Sightings from Outerspace

The city that once played host to The X-Files is also the best place in Canada to spot a flying saucer, according to the Canadian UFO Survey.

That’s right: If the truth is out there, Vancouver is probably a good place to find it.

There were 116 UFO sightings reported in the city last year alone, with the average encounter lasting 13 minutes.

Astronomer Chris Rutkowski said the sheer number of sightings – 1,100 in all of Canada last year – demands further research.

““Are we looking at a real phenomenon? Is there a psychological phenomenon accounting for all this?” said Rutkowski, who works with the Canadian UFO Survey.

“Why do people persist in seeing something that supposedly shouldn’t be there?”

Vancouver has been a UFO hot spot for years, according to the survey, and B.C. was second only to Ontario for sightings in 2013.

About 300 UFOs were reported across the province, with sightings peaking between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Vancouver UFOs: CTV News Investigates | VIDEO

A new video published on May 21, 2014, offers a preview of a special report from CTV News claiming there are more UFO sightings in Vancouver, British Columbia, than anywhere else around Canada. In what is described as an “out of this world story” the preview highlights on-camera interviews featuring both Canadian science writer Chris Rutkowski and Vancouver astronomer Charles Lamoureux. CTV’s coverage follows this month’s publication of results from a 2013 Canadian UFO Survey which ranked Vancouver the number one city in Canada with 116 UFO reports filed in 2012.

The survey’s overview describes how “Since 1989, Ufology Research has solicited UFO case data from known and active investigators and researchers in Canada.” According to the authors, the goal of the survey has been “to provide data for use by researchers trying to understand this controversial phenomenon.” Case data for the 2013 survey was compiled from nearly two dozen listed sources, including YouTube, UFO*BC, National Defense and the Canadian Forces, Transport Canada and the Houston, British Columbia, Centre for UFO Research.

According to website Skepticfiles.org, UFOlogy Research is “a private, non-profit and volunteer organization involved in rational discourse, investigation and research on UFOs and related phenomena.” The site claims the survey's authors are “devoted to the rational and objective study of UFOs and related phenomena” and are willing to consider all views on these phenomena in the interests of encouraging “constructive discourse.” . . .

Strange orb reported over Vancouver Lake

By Sue Vorenberg

Carey Hicks was standing in his driveway in Vancouver’s Fruit Valley neighborhood last night when he saw something odd and scary streak through the sky.

It was a helicopter chasing a small craft, possibly an orb, that was highly maneuverable, he said.

“It was a smaller craft with a large military helicopter following it,” Hicks said. “It flew over two or three times.”

He said he saw the craft, which he described as a ball of light, fly over his neighborhood toward Vancouver Lake at about 10 p.m. or 10:30 p.m.

Allen Kenitzer, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, said there were some military exercises on Wednesday night for the Oregon National Guard, but they involved F15s and not helicopters, as far as he knows.

“We have no reports of any UFOs,” Kenitzer said. “But there has been some military activity.”

Kama Simonds, a spokeswoman for the Port of Portland, said the port is working on emergency preparedness drills today, but there was nothing happening at the Port at the time Hicks said the incident happened.

“It had nothing to do with the drill,” Simonds said. . . .

UFO or A Stellar Prank in Vancouver?

By x-small

In what may be remembered as the most creative publicity stunt ever attempted by an educational institution, Vancouver’s H.R. MacMillan Space Centre hovered an unmanned drone aircraft above a minor league baseball stadium last month. The drone bore a resemblance to a 1950s sci-fi movie flying saucer. A spontaneous fan video posted on YouTube earned more than 200,000 views in a month and caused rapture in parts of the UFO-enthusiast community—at least until the hoax was revealed. It turns out that the prank at the Vancouver Canadians baseball game was one of a handful of drone strikes by MacMillan against the unsuspecting people of metro Vancouver. A press release from MacMillan came clean, “The goal of the faux UFO was to create a buzz about the new planetarium viewer experience at Vanier Park. The Planetarium Theatre at the Space Centre underwent a half million dollar upgrade this summer.”

Even excepting the spike in UFO interest caused by the pranksters at MacMillan, we are quietly witnessing a renaissance in UFO interest. . . .

Mystery of Mass UFO Sighting Uncovered

H.R. MacMillan Space Centre reveals starring role in UFO hoax

By H.R. MacMillan Space Centre

Vancouver, BC, Sept. 10, 2013 – Is it a bird, a plane or proof that life exists on other planets? Recent close encounters reported by local UFO bloggers are actually the result of an elaborate hoax masterminded by the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre.

The image of a drone in the shape of the Space Centre was captured by web cams, camera phones and video in and around Vancouver locations such as Deep Cove, Jericho Beach, Burrard and Cornwall, and Nat Bailey Stadium, including during last night’s Vancouver Canadians game.

The goal of the faux UFO was to create a buzz about the new planetarium viewer experience at Vanier Park. The Planetarium Theatre at the Space Centre underwent a half million dollar upgrade this summer.

The Space Centre worked with Vancouver ad agency MacLaren McCann in developing this“extreme teaser campaign” which consisted of strategically releasing web cam photos of the drone sightings through social media to UFO bloggers and Twitter and Facebook. A YouTube video of the Nat Bailey UFO captured more than 200,000 hits alone.

Rumour has it that the UFO presence led to the Canadians’ wins last night and week.

The campaign is complemented by the release of a charming new PSA, showing that same Space Centre-shaped UFO flying in and replacing the old with the new building. A slogan follows: “New and improved. H.R. MacMillan Space Centre Planetarium Theatre.” See below:

“We want to show Vancouver, BC and the world that you can truly have a rare experience by exploring the exciting new shows and state of the art projection system. The buzz we are creating seems to be working as attendance is up 65 per cent compared to this time last year,” said Rob Appleton, Space Centre executive director.

The attendance boost mirrors that of the Manitoba Museum whose planetarium also went digital a year ago and saw a 50 per cent increase in visitor volumes. Similar to its prairie counterpart, the Space Centre is destined to embrace unconventional uses of its revamped system.

First on the docket is a new program debuting in November called Through the Lens: Building Vancouver’s History. The indoor digital walking tour will give the audience a chance to experience Vancouver streetscapes as they have evolved over the past century.

There are also plans to make the projection space available to corporations, foundations and other organizations for unique presentation purposes, including potentially for medical schools wanting to demonstrate surgeries with an immersive and close-up perspective.

“Thanks to these recent changes and innovations, the Space Centre has gone from being a kind of beloved and well-respected Vancouver time capsule to a timeless expression of this new technological age. The possibilities are endless. If you can digitize it, we can show it,” added Appleton.

The H.R. MacMillan Space Centre is a non-profit community resource that brings the wonders of space to Earth, while providing a personal sense of ongoing discovery. Through innovative programming, exhibits and activities, our goal is to inspire sustained interest in the fields of Earth science, space science and astronomy from a Canadian perspective.

A UFO was spotted at a Canadian minor league baseball game, and a couple of people at the game tweeted photos of the object. One of the teams scored four runs about the time of the sighting, causing some to speculate it was “cosmic intervention.”

The game was at the Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium in Vancouver. The Vancouver Canadians played the Everett AquaSox. In the sixth inning a shiny blue object was spotted over the right field fence. The Canadians scored four runs in that inning, and went on to win the game 5-1.

Tweeters began using the hashtag #luckyUFO, and even the Vancouver Canadians tweeted about the UFO.

At least two baseball fans tweeted pictures of the object. One tweeter says he saw the object hovering and moving up and down before it disappeared. . . .

UFO Spotted Above North Shore Mountains; Amateur Photographer Snaps Photo 5-25-13

VANCOUVER -- On Saturday morning around 10 a.m., Vancouver resident and amateur photographer Anthony Ellis snapped a photo of the North Shore Mountain. It wasn’t until he got home and viewed the digital photo on his computer that he saw the speck hovering over the mountain.

“I was quite surprised,” said Ellis, who believes the object is a UFO.

Ellis says he didn’t alter the photograph in any way, and the black speck does not appear on other photos taken the same day.

According to the 2012 annual Canadian UFO survey, 1981 Canadians reported sightings, a jump of nearly 100 per cent over previous years. Of those, only 7.5 per cent were evaluated as unexplained. Ontario residents log the most UFO sightings annually, with B.C. ranking second with 20 per cent of the sightings. . . .
