‘…Former Lawmaker Staked Out Her Position On Extraterrestrial Affairs…’

Lynn Woolsey Doesn’t Find UFO Talk Totally Spacey

Mankind being completely alone in the universe makes far less sense to former Rep. Lynn Woolsey than contemplating the possibility that someone (something?) else might be cruising around the infinite vastness surrounding our home planet.

And while she never imagined the dizzying tales launched her way in early 2013 during a self-styled “hearing” on extraterrestrial affairs would ever crop up in a presidential race — as White House hopeful Hillary Clinton discovered earlier this winter during a swing through New Hampshire — the California Democrat urged prospective leaders to open up about exopolitics.

“I think it would be a good idea for a new administration, whoever may be running it, to come clean about what they know,” Woolsey, who remains intrigued by cosmic concepts, told Roll Call.

The former lawmaker staked out her position on extraterrestrial affairs during her 10 terms in the House and tenure on the Science, Space and Technology Committee. It wasn’t until after retiring in 2012, however, that Woolsey wound up playing devil’s advocate during the weeklong Citizen Hearing on Disclosure. [...]

Activist Demands Congressional Action On Extraterrestrials

Activist Demands Congressional Action On Extraterrestrials

While Congress and the White House argue over illegal aliens, Stephen Bassett — founder of Paradigm Research Group and a registered lobbyist - continues to demand that lawmakers, the White House and assorted officials tell what they know about aliens. As in extraterrestrials.

The determined Mr. Bassett has already organized a “Citizen Hearing on Disclosure” last year at the National Press Club in the nation’s capital. A DVD of the 30-hour close encounter between witnesses, six former congressmen, law enforcement, experts and journalists was sent to all members of Congress on Nov. 5, as a matter of fact.

Mr. Basset now says he will “renew direct engagement” with lawmakers and has organized an aggressive social media campaign among like-minded voters who also want answers about UFO sightings, alien technology and other matters. He offers a dozen sample tweets for interested folk, a #disclosure hashtag and a mission statement: “Dedicated to ending the government imposed
truth embargo regarding an extraterrestrial presence engaging the human race.”

Congress last addressed the issue formally in 1968, Mr. Bassett says. . . .

In Praise of Stephen Bassett and the Citizen Hearing on Disclosure

Between April 29 and May 3, up to forty researchers and military/government witnesses will testify to the reality of the UFO phenomenon and extraterrestrial visitation before former members of the United States Congress and Senate. This is the Citizen Hearing on Disclosure. It is the brainchild of political activist Stephen Bassett.

As a researcher with a pro-ETH (Extraterrestrial Hypothesis) stance, I have always respected and supported Bassett’s work. His White House ‘We the People’ petitions were widely criticised by pundits in the UFO community, either for failing to bring about UFO Disclosure, or on the grounds that Disclosure is simply unachievable through public pressure. Such criticisms are myopic and defeatist.

In fact, Disclosure was never an immediate objective for Bassett’s White House petitions. His petitioning was successful in its elicitation of an historic response from the Obama Administration on the UFO/ET issue, for capturing the attention of international news media, and, in turn, for encouraging many people outside of the insular UFO community to consider the reality and implications of official UFO secrecy.

Bassett’s goal is to bring about Disclosure not through one explosive revolutionary act, but through a continuing series of high-profile but always respectful actions – be they in the form of petitions or press conferences – which serve constantly to remind those few in the corridors of power who hold the key to UFO secrecy that the public, although more often than not distracted by the trappings of everyday life and the inanities of modern culture, are ever savvy to the machinations of their ‘Truth Embargo’, and that our deep desire for Disclosure (in one form or another) grows stronger with each passing year. It’s a constant call for accountability and an essential reminder from the public to the UFO policy makers: “We’re watching you, and we’re waiting.”

Whether or not you agree with Bassett’s particular brand of UFO activism, whether or not you like the witnesses he presents at his press conferences or if you approve of the specific phrasing of his petitions, there can be no denying that his efforts in this field have raised popular awareness of the UFO/ET issue considerably in the 21st Century. Indeed, I would argue that Bassett has done more than any of his detractors in UFOlogy and Exopolitics – perhaps more than anyone ever – to directly encourage the mainstream media to more thoughtfully engage with one of history’s most important and misunderstood subjects. If he has not always been entirely successfully in this endeavour, it is not for lack of trying. And he has tried at his own considerable financial cost.

Stephen Bassett is a driven man. Whether he succeeds in ending the Truth Embargo remains to be seen, but he will never give up. I’m not a saluting kinda guy. But, Steve Bassett, I salute you.

Merrill Cook

Merrill Cook says he’s skeptical, but open-minded about unidentified flying objects.

Washington • Like most Americans, former Rep. Merrill Cook, R-Utah doesn’t believe aliens have made contact with Earth, but he promises to keep an open mind as he participates in 30 hours of testimony in a mock hearing later this month.

The "Citizen Hearing on Disclosure" is organized and funded by the Paradigm Research Group, which insists the governments of the United States and other countries are hiding the truth.

"There are extraterrestrials here and the U.S. government’s policy since the ’40s has been not to acknowledge this," said Stephen Bassett, who asked Cook and four other former members of Congress to participate in the five-day pseudo-hearing at the National Press Club starting April 29.

"I simply want them to conduct themselves as if they were sitting in Congress and conduct a hearing that the Congress won’t hold," he said.

Cook says he can do that, but don’t expect him to become a believer just because Paradigm is paying him and taking care of travel expenses for him and his wife. . . .
