UFOs Over Santiago, Chile, Put On An Amazing Show | VIDEO – CHILE
Some highly unusual groups of aerial lights appeared over Santiago, Chile, in December, and while the exact date of the incident isn't known, a video caught the objects moving around in very interesting patterns.
After looking at the two-part video, it's easy to wonder why only one person captured the event and from only one vantage point.
According to the Daily Mail, an unidentified woman videotaped the lights from her window while she and others are heard excitedly talking about what they're seeing in the sky.
The first two minutes show four long strips of hovering multiple lights (seen above). Then, one by one, the strips move slowly away from each other. As they do this, you can see smaller, flashing lights on each of them -- they look almost like aircraft on a landing trajectory to an airport.
Here's the complete video:

A Flying Disk Over Santiago: Seen Flying Over Los Cerrillos

June 1947: Elsewhere in the World
By Inexplicata

Fifty two years ago, on June 24th, 1947, Kenneth Arnold saw five objects that he described as "skipping like saucers over water" in the skies over Washington State. The rest is history.By Inexplicata

Let us not forget that UFO activity was already beginning to occur elsewhere in the world, and this newspaper article from Chile, courtesy of our friend Raul Núñez at the IIEE, is a good example:

Mr. Gillermo de la Cerda Simonot, a former civilian officer of the Fleet, states that a shining, silvery and oval-shaped object" appeared before his eyes for ten minutes at noon yesterday.
A flying disk remained stationary for at least ten minutes over the Los Cerrillos airport, at least ten kilometers from the Plaza de Armas, at the very same time that the population of Santiago left its offices and workshops to go off to lunch. The object was seen by Guillermo de la Cerda Simonot, master mechanic of a small bus line, and whose background as a former civilian officer of the Fleet for 30 years, knowledgeable about machinery and vehicles, is a serene, creditworthy individual with good eyesight.
It was noon when Guillermo de la Cerda, son of the known racehorse owner of the same name, was returning along the Maipú road after having made repairs to a damaged bus. He was wearing sunglasses, which allowed him to face the sun. Suddenly, only a few centimeters over the horizon, he saw something that shined "like the reflection of an airplane's wings when the sun strikes them". He said nothing to his escort, an assistant mechanic of the same bus line, and he continued looking at the object, which remained stationary.
Finally, convinced that it could not be an airplane, he stopped the bus and got off t for a better look. It was an oval, silvery object, similar to the ones described in newswires regarding "flying saucers". He believed that he could see portholes along its edges, but was uncertain. "I don't want to say something that I didn't say with certainty," he added. His companion saw the same thing as he.
A fiew minutes later, the oval, silvery and brilliant object vanished behind the trees and out of sight.
A "flying disk"? A hallucination? Everything suggests the former. Chile appears to hav been visited by the same extraordinary messengers from space that have already appeared in so many parts of the world.

Chile Promotes UFO Tourism

Santiago - When it comes to attracting tourists to a remote region in central Chile, the town of San Clemente is aiming high - playing up its reputed connection to visitors from outer space.8-20-08
The Andean municipality, 240 kilometres south of Santiago, has opened the country’s first UFO trail, a 30-kilometre long stretch that takes in a supposed landing site for flying saucers and optimal lookouts for extraterrestrial craft.
Sernatur, Chile’s tourism service, is backing the initiative.
"We support the creation of this UFO trail because experts say that it is a ’hot zone’ for watchers," the service’s director, Oscar Santelices, told AFP.
However, just in case hordes of foreign tourists of the terrestrial variety turn up expecting to get a close encounter of a first, second, third or - heaven forbid - fourth kind (alien abduction) out of their trip, Sernatur had a bucket of cold water.
"In no way can we guarantee that a tourist coming to San Clemente will see a UFO," it said in its brochure.
The Chilean town has long been am unofficial destination for UFO-watchers in the know, though mainstream curiosity-seekers looking for a bit of interplanetary mystery have been more often drawn to neighbouring Peru to see the Nazca Lines, those centuries-old gigantic representations of animals in a desert which can only be fully appreciated from the air.
UFO researchers say hundreds of UFO sightings have been reported in San Clemente since the mid-1990s.
Rodrigo Fuenzalida, president of the Chilean Grouping for UFO Research (AION), said between January 1995 and the middle of 1996 there was around one sighting per week.
The last unidentified flying object spotted was in the third week of February this year, he said.
"It was an orange object located about 400 meters (1,312 feet) in the distance, with oscillating movements," he said.
A site of special interest is a flat zone of huge volcanic blocks known as El Enladrillado, 60 kilometers (37 miles) from San Clemente and at an altitude of 2,300 meters (7,546 feet), which locals claim is a UFO landing pad.
"There, sightings have been made of shining spheres going into the water and into wooded zones without any human explanation," Fuenzalida said.
El Enladrillado, which can only be accessed after hours of trekking over rough terrain, forms the central part of the UFO trail.
Other points along the path include signs detailing sightings, as well as restaurants, camping sites, hostels and cabins to serve hungry or weary Earthlings, Juan Carlos Cerro of the local tourist office said.
