RADIATION FALLOUT NEWS | PRESCOTT, ARIZONA: Detectable Radiation Found in Rainwater

By www.radiationnetwork.com
5-15-11

Up to now, I have indicated that I have found no contamination in my rainwater, from a couple of previous tests. This changed, however, on May 10th when we received an unseasonable 1/4" rainfall here in Prescott, Arizona. The family car had been outdoors in the rain, so I wiped an otherwise clean, but wet window with a paper towel, brought that inside, and laid it on a paper plate, which itself was sitting on a wooden table. First, I attempted a momentary scan with my Digilert 100, a "standard" tubed Geiger counter, aiming its thin mica end window directly at the wet towel, slowly surveying the surface area. But the momentary scan did not indicate any perceptible radioactivity.

So in the interest of thoroughness, I resorted to a 20 minute count, using the Total/Timer mode of the Digilert, fixing the position of the instrument, with the end window oriented directly at the water-soaked towel just 1/4" away. At the end of the test, the instrument had accumulated 514 radiation counts, or about 26 CPM (Counts per Minute). Then I created a scientific control, conducting a similar 20 minute count on an identical paper towel moistened with tap water this time, sitting on an identical paper plate, and in the same position on the same wooden table. The accumulated count was 407, or about 20 CPM.

If that comparison wasn't enough to indicate slight radioactivity from the rainwater, I looked at my logged average of indoor "environmental" radiation for the previous 20 minutes before disconnecting my Digilert from the computer to scan the water, and wouldn't you know it, but that was also 20 CPM. So short of an even longer timed count, this analysis almost certainly revealed that the captured rainwater was emitting 6 CPM of radiation. What are the lessons here?

RADIATION FALLOUT NEWS | BERKELEY CA - Radiation Has Been Detected in Milk and Rainwater

Radiation Rain

By John Upton

Radiation from Japan rained on Berkeley during recent storms at levels that exceeded drinking water standards by 181 times and has been detected in multiple milk samples, but the U.S. government has still not published any official data on nuclear fallout here from the Fukushima disaster.

Dangers from radiation that is wafting over the United States from the Fukushima power plant disaster and falling with rain have been downplayed by government officials and others, who say its impacts are so fleeting and minor as to be negligible.

BREAKING NEWS | Radiation Network: "Questions Continue To Pour In About The Relatively High Readings In Colorado"

Radiation Network Map

By The Radiation Network
3-31-11

Update: 3/31/11, 4:50 AM: Questions continue to pour in about the relatively high readings in Colorado. Up to this point, we have noted that some of the Monitoring Stations in Colorado are at high altitude where the lesser atmospheric shielding of cosmic radiation leads to a higher background count. But something else happened on the evening of March 29th which caused an elevated reading at a station in Evergreen, Colorado.

BREAKING NEWS | Radiation Alert in Huntsville, Alabama Most Likely a False Alarm

Radiation Map

By www.radiationnetwork.com
3-28-11

Update: 3/28/11, 8:40 A.M. Here is follow up on the Radiation Alert from this morning. The Monitoring Station in question is located in Huntsville, Alabama. It triggered alerts based on radiation levels averaging in the 100 to 150 CPM range. We tried to reach the station through a number of different means, including via the Chat forum available from within the Radiation Network, but to no avail. So after a half hour or so, we contacted the Huntsville Fire Department and recommended they take independent radiation readings in the vicinity of the Monitoring Station.

Does The Inbound Radiation 'Fallout Plume' Pose a Threat To You? Check Radiation Levels in Real Time!

Radiation Network Map

By Frank Warren

Frank Warren     RadiationNetwork.com is home of the National Radiation Map, which monitors and publishes radiation levels, that normally are “environmental radiation from space, the earth's crust, or in the atmosphere across the USA; it’s updated in real time every few minutes. The monitoring stations are made up of a network of volunteers who, with their own Geiger counters upload data to the NRM using software available through RadiationNetwork.com.

RadiationNetwork.com explains how to read the map:

“Referring to the Map Legend at the bottom left corner of the map, locate Monitoring Stations around the country that are contributing radiation data to this map as you read this, and watch the numbers on those monitoring stations update as frequently as every minute (your browser will automatically refresh). The numbers represent radiation Counts per Minute, abbreviated CPM, and under normal conditions, quantify the level of background radiation, i.e. environmental radiation from outer space as well as from the earth's crust and air. Depending on your location within the US, your elevation or altitude, and your model of Geiger counter, this background radiation level might average anywhere from 5 to 60 CPM, and while background radiation levels are random, it would be unusual for those levels to exceed 100 CPM. Thus, the "Alert Level" for the National Radiation Map is 100 CPM, so if you see any Monitoring Stations with CPM value above 100, further indicated by an Alert symbol over those stations, it probably means that some radioactive source above and beyond background radiation is responsible.”

You’ll notice that there are several monitoring stations across the country; however, RadiationNetwork.com is always seeking more volunteers, not only here in the US, but anywhere in the world where internet access is available.

Given the fact that the mainstream media (here and in Japan) has been “all over the place” in regards to the facts and the gravity concerning this nuclear catastrophe, I’ve found great comfort (so far) in having the ability to see with my own eyes the levels of radiation being measured/monitored in this country–particularly so, since I reside in California!
