At a recent special event held by the National Atomic Testing Museum in Las Vegas, Nevada, a panel of former and current CIA employees answered questions about Area 51 and the discussion included talk about UFOs. However, their answers left some, including local media, doubting.

The National Atomic Testing Museum is home to an Area 51 exhibit called Area 51: Myth or Reality. It was opened in March, 2012, back when Area 51 was still officially a secret. The exhibit includes information about UFOs.

The museum plans on closing the exhibit at the end of the year, so they have been hosting Area 51 and UFO talks – including yours truly – over the last few weeks.

On October 9, the museum hosted a panel of former and current CIA employees, and a civilian Area 51 historian, Peter Merlin. The CIA panelists included Chief Historian of the CIA Dr. David Robarge, former CIA senior scientific intelligence officer S. Eugene Poteat, and re-engineering expert Thornton Barnes.

The panel was moderated by KLAS investigative journalist, George Knapp, who posted a story on the event on the KLAS website. He said the CIA panelists “had their tongues in their cheeks when talking about Nevada’s rock star of military bases: Area 51.”

Filmmaker Jeremy Corbell, who is working on a documentary about alleged Area 51 whistle-blower Bob Lazar, asked the panel if the CIA was still researching UFOs. [...]

When current and former CIA employees got together to talk about the Area 51 military base at a public forum, it was probably inevitable that the topic of UFOs would come up.

“There's nothing secret about Area 51," said former Area 51 CIA agent Gene Poteat.

The panel of current and former CIA staffers who spoke at the Atomic Testing Museum October 9 had their tongues in their cheeks when talking about Nevada's rock star of military bases: Area 51. No secrets here, they told the crowd. It's all out in the open.

[...]For years, the CIA denied any interest in UFOs at all, but it now admits that was a lie. Documents obtained via public records laws show it continued to collect UFO information at least into the 1970s. [...]

LAS VEGAS -- The original investigator of the famed Roswell UFO incident says he hopes an upcoming appearance in Las Vegas might produce a piece of "smoking gun" evidence or a new eyewitness.

Nuclear physicist Stanton Friedman has spent more than 30 years investigating the story about an alleged crash outside of Roswell, New Mexico. The military initially said the object was a flying saucer, but later changed its story and said it was really a weather balloon.

Friedman has interviewed dozens of witnesses over the years who allege the craft was something from outer space.

Friedman plans to speak at the Atomic Testing Museum on East Flamingo Road Friday, March 28. He says some of the same scientists who worked on the atomic bomb program in New Mexico would likely have been part of any cover up of a crashed UFO. . . .
