Roswell: 'Proof' the US Government Covered Up Evidence of Alien Life?

Bookmark and Share

Roswell Memo Snippet
A UFO researcher claims he may have unlocked the secret behind the alleged Roswell cover-up, using modern imaging technology to decipher a top-secret US government memo.
In July 1947, New Mexico residents reported lights in the sky followed by a strange disc-like craft crashing into the Roswell desert.
By Ten News
5-26-17

US authorities initially released a statement confirming a crashed flying saucer, but the statement was soon retracted, followed the next day by an explanation claiming an Air Force ‘weather balloon’ had crashed.

The alleged cover-up sparked alien and UFO believers’ biggest conspiracy theory to date.

Now, one researcher says he has ‘proof’ the US government covered up proof of alien life.

David Rudiak says he’s enhanced a black-and-white photo taken of General Roger Ramey at Fort Worth Army Air Field in the days after the crash. The General is seen holding a ‘top secret memo’ in his hand as he looks over the alleged weather balloon wreckage.

Rudiak says he now can read 80 percent of the document, and it confirms there were “crash victims” and the craft was in fact a “disc.”

Roswell: Ramey Memo Update

Roswell: Ramey Memo Update

By Kevin Randle
A Different Perspective
9-26-15

The best case of provenance that I have ever seen is the Ramey Memo. We have a picture of Ramey holding the document, we have been able to interview the photographer, and we know the date on which it was taken because we have not only a dated document that was transmitted with the picture, but it appeared in newspapers around the country the next day. The only point of dispute is what the memo actually says. Parts of it are easily read and others are obscured to the point where it is sometimes just a best guess. If the memo could be completely deciphered it might provide a clue about what fell near Roswell and would be some of the best documentation available.

The answer always seemed tantalizing close but just out of reach. The ability of equipment and software to pull information off the photograph just wasn’t good enough to do it in the 1990s. Scans had been made years ago from the original negatives but newer equipment and better software might have changed all that. Martin Dreyer, a researcher living in New Zealand, was interested in the memo and believed that modern equipment might be able to pull something new from the negative. He began to work toward that aim.

For almost two years, he talked to various experts in photography, software and those who had great experience in recovering information hidden in photographic negatives. The consensus seemed to be that it would be possible to extract more and better information from the memo using a variety of these new and modern techniques.

The next step was to learn if the University of Texas at Arlington Special Collections would allow the negative to be subjected to another round of scrutiny. Although interested in learning what might be found, they were also concerned with the process. They didn’t want to damage negative any further. The handling of it as well as subjecting it to scans in the past caused it to acquire some scratches and a little dirt but they were assured that this new analysis would be nondestructive.

Brenda S. McClurkin was the contact at UTA and provided a great deal of assistance in getting the permissions to have the negative scanned using a variety of techniques and equipment. She arranged for the use of photographic microscope at UTA that could read the negative.

At the end of April 2015 David Rudiak traveled to the Dallas – Fort Worth area and to the University of Texas at Arlington. Working with those at UTA, as well as some independent experts in photography and forensic analysis, they made dozens of new scans under a variety of conditions hoping to clarify the memo enough that a consensus of the wording could be formed. Some of the letters were lost in the debris on the negative and in the fact that the memo was slightly folded and parts of it were not directly facing the camera. Had J. Bond Johnson, the original photographer, been a foot closer the image might have been easily resolved.

It had been hoped that the new techniques would produce immediate results but that didn’t happen. The photographic process used only cleaned up the memo marginally. There was no new and great revelation. That suggested that the application of software was needed, which, unfortunately could lead to claims that the image had been manipulated to produce specific results.

After the disappointment with the results, and after seeing the results of the Roswell Slides Research Group’s success in reading the placard in front of the image on those slides, it was decided to open the analysis to a wider audience. The original idea had been to release the best results with all the information about the resolution of the image but now that moved into a new arena. With the cooperation of those at UTA, and at their suggestion, the best of the scans will be posted to various locations on the Internet, and as soon as possible to this blog along with the links to those other images.

Again, the work has been less than spectacular. It seems that the image has been cleaned up to a small degree but not to the point where what are considered the critical areas could be read. Work is continuing, but it is painstakingly slow and as mentioned, disappointing. The hope now is that if the images are put up in open source that the same thing that happened with the (Not) Roswell Slides can be accomplished with the Ramey memo. Maybe someone will have the right software or have a new idea about the way to attack this that will allow the memo to be read. At the moment we are not much closer to a solution than we were. It is still just beyond our grasp.

The Roswell Slides Saga: Some Claims vs Some Facts

The Roswell Slides Saga: Some Claims vs Some Facts
"I do not know what this image represents. Therefore, it could be extraterrestrial faces". Actually, no, not at all!

ATTENTION: This work is the result or the operation of a collective research team Roswell Slides and therefore represents a personal adaptation of this work. I tried as much as possible to credit the images, montages, etc. It is possible that I forgot the author for some, and I pray the kindly excuse me or let me know

Roswell Slides is a team based on "the principle of the White Paper", ie bringing together people of all stripes and trends, skeptical historians, ufologists, psychologists, "anomalists" defending people rather exotic reality behind the UFO or not (UFO skeptics). Among its members (more than fifteen), we can count (apart from those wishing to remain anonymous):
• José Antonio Caravaca (read also the article by José appeared on the same day as mine: Mummy Is this the famous "Alien" in the Roswell Slides )

• Curt Collins

• Roger Glassel

• Paul Kimball

• Lance Moody

• Tim Printy

• Chris Rutkowski
and yours truly.

. . .

Introduction

The "saga slide Roswell" UFO appeared in the microcosm there are about 1 and a half. Difficult to sum it all up! But best of all efforts to summarize in my humble opinion, and probably the one found on the website (in English) Blue Blurry Lines, held by Curt Collins entitled "Rowell Slides" or Fraud Prints.

In other words, from only slides, some investigators would be able to say that what is alien and is more accurately linked without doubt to the Roswell!

From only slides? Not just, not really ... In fact, the main promoters of this saga is far from new entrants and "agnostic" such as would be expected for an alleged discovery of such magnitude.

Among the major developers, there is indeed Donald Schmitt, Tom Carey and Anthony Bragalia and therefore people who have a strong background, best-selling books and dozens of articles on the myth of Roswell. "I" am often returned to my book about Don Schmitt or on certain assertions Anthony Bragalia.

In short, these are people carrying the myth of Roswell (StoryTellers / Mythmakers in English) for years, so researchers really can not in any way be influenced by it when they encounter one or two slides which appears a small body they can not identify.

Consciously or not, these slides can only help some confirmation bias , to echo their own beliefs, behave "as a projective test", plus some "mercantile" design ...

In addition, it is added to this promotion, Jaime Maussan, which is far from being seriously held within the microcosm UFO advocate of exotic reality behind the UFO. See for example (the list of extraordinary claims "cans" or outright bidonnées would be very long and especially off-topic) "my" debunking one of his previous promo ... This is to say and it s' is by no means men of science or devoid of any critical sense and personal interest in promoting these slides (and draw some money or material to future bestseller) ...

Finally, it is important to note that ancient storytellers / mythmakers the myth of Roswell, as Kevin Randle and David Rudiak had separated from the opinion and findings of the team promoting the slides. For example, include the bestselling author Kevin Randle :
What all this means, quite simply, and although the slides prove to the satisfaction of everyone as exposed and developed in 1947 or 1948, they will not be able to prove the extraterrestrial nature what is photographed. The mummies appear to be [...] the best explanation of what the slide show or a mummy found in the desert. This has nothing to do with the Roswell case. . . .

A Roswell Slides Recap

To summarize the Roswell Slides history: Tom Carey put together a Dream Team to produce the ultimate Roswell book. The project got sidetracked, but Carey continued to work with his writing partner Don Schmitt, assisted by Anthony Bragalia and David Rudiak, who both had provided help for the Witness to Roswell book. Then, the slides entered the story. As much as possible, I’m going to let the players themselves tell the tale

Roswell Slide Group

Adam Dew makes a call

The slide collection seems to have been owned by a couple in Midland, Texas, Bernerd and Hilda Ray. Adam Dew claims that a friend’s sister salvaged some slides while cleaning out a house that was going to be demolished.
Adam Dew
Adam Dew
“A quick timeline as I understand it: Hilda died in 1988. Slides discovered when emptying out a garage outside of Sedona (Cottonwood we think) in 1998. Slides were deemed intersting (obviously old color slides) but not fully examined until around 2008. While I think that the home may have belonged to Hilda's lawyer, there is no way to know for sure as the woman who found them didn't keep records of the homes she cleaned out. . . .  I don't think the slides came from Hilda's home.”
Secrets Exposed
Bragalia's Article As Printed In UFO Today Magazine

While the search for a profitable platform for the slides was on, details about them leaked out. Anthony Bragalia wrote an article outlining that the slides, “showed a corporeal being. It was a humanoid, most certainly not of earth and it was dead.” Based chiefly on Bernerd Ray’s profession as a geologist, Bragalia speculated that:
“Given this background on the slides we are now confronted with an inescapable truth:

A prominent geologist who explored the New Mexico desert in the 1940s is directly associated with two 1947 Kodachromes depicting a humanoid corpse as found at Roswell.
In other words: a weird picture of a body was found, and a scenario was imagined, trying to tie it to Roswell. In the comments, Bragalia states, “I am aware that two 1947 slides of a dead alien do not equate to tissue slides/samples or the actual cadaver itself. But given the confirmed authenticity and provenance of the slides- it is as close as we will ever come that kind of physical evidence.

Provenance. That’s a funny word to use when there’s nothing to tie the content of the slides to UFOs, Roswell, the military or even the United States of America. It can’t be proven these slides were taken by the Rays. As Adam Dew notes, it can’t be determined who owned the house where the slides were found.

Wait and see, they say!

There is very little left to wait for, just the allegedly clear images of the slides themselves. The promoters and their associates have been discussing the details of the slides and voicing their conclusions about the slides since 2013. The delay in showing them was due to the search for a platform to release them, and they’ve chosen an entertainment venue, Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City.

Due to the carelessness in the “Kodachrome - A Documentary - Official Trailer,” images of the slides have been isolated, and “leaked” online. According to one insider, it is as good or better than what he could see viewing them on a lap top.

Eyewitness testimony about the “Roswell Slides”

Larry Lemke posted about examining the slides, and has posted the best description available about what is depicted:
Early in March, 2014, I met with the owner of the slides, viewed them, and talked to him about his plans. (Actually, I viewed digital reproductions of the slides.) ... The owner affirmed that it is his intent to present the slides and their story to the public in a non-sensationialistic forum, after he has satisfied himself as to their authenticity. He feels he is nearing the end of that phase.
He goes on to describe the photographs:
Leaked Slide Image Rendered By Frank Warren
Leaked Slide Image Rendered By Frank Warren

1. There are 2 photos, taken in an indoor setting.

2. The photos are of poor quality (focus, exposure) compared to virtually all the other photos in the same collection. For this reason, edge detection, contrast enhancement and other photoanalysis techniques are warranted and are being used.

3. The photos appear to have been taken about 4 or 5 feet from the humanoid, from a position slightly above it.

4. To my eye, the humanoid is lying on a clear glass shelf and is surrounded by either clear glass walls and/or a full glass enclosure. The enclosure appears to be more like a rectangular box than like a bottle.

5. In one of the photos, a woman is standing behind the glass case (visible from approximately the waist down). In the other photo a man is visible in the same location, leading to speculation that the man and the woman traded places and took turns taking pictures.

6. The humanoid is not immersed in a fluid; it appears to be open to the air (at least if the lid were off).

7. The glass shelf/ box that the humanoid is on/in appears to be supported on shelf brackets that are connected to vertical, metal supports. The vertical supports are perforated at regular intervals (nominally, 1 inch spacing) by drilled holes. The shelf arrangement gives the appearance of a laboratory apparatus rack.

8. The humanoid is lying on its back, with its head to the camera’s left and feet to the right.

9. There is some type of placard on the front of the glass case, with (currently undecipherable, out-of-focus) writing on it. (Shades of the Ramey memo!) It is my suspicion that this placard is the source of the idea that the genital area of the humanoid was deliberately covered up in order to escape the wrath of the censors when the slides were developed. I don’t think that is the case. From what I could see, the genital area was not visible to the camera due to the view angle of the camera. I suspect that the placard simply serves to identify the contents of the glass case.

10. The proportions of the humanoid appear to be slightly different than a “normal” human, but probably, no single dimension of the body is outside the range of naturally occurring sizes. The length of the head (crown to chin) is approximately the same length as the torso (neck to crotch). The arm length (shoulder to wrist) is approximately the length of the torso (i.e., the wrist joint is approximately aligned with the hip bone). The leg bones are long, compared to the arms.

11. Given that the body is about 3 feet long, if it is human, then it must be either a child or an adult with a developmental disorder. (Human Trisomy 17 has been suggested as a candidate.)

12. I could not see digits on either the hands or feet, and so could not count them.

13. The mouth is open and no teeth are visible.

14. The skin of the humanoid is smooth and appears to have shrunk taut against the bones (ribs, legs, arms, cranium). Whether this is due to natural effects of death (saponification, dessication, etc.) or is the result of some post-mortem treatment (embalming, freezing, etc.) is not clear.

15. The head appears to have been severed from the top of the spinal column and then replaced, lying at an unnatural angle relative to the torso.

16. There is nothing in the photo that would either definitively connect this to the Roswell event or definitively disconnect it. Any connection is coincidental (it appears to have been taken at about the right time).
The leaked image must not be all that bad. Lemke refers to it as showing more detail than what he was shown of the originals:
"Nearly a year ago I saw what I would consider low resolution computer screen images of the slides for a period of about 10 to 15 minutes. ... the images I saw at that time were of poor enough quality that I could not see other features that others were claiming to be present. ... It wasn’t until I saw the cleaned up images earlier today that I could see enough detail to form an opinion... Having looked at the cleaned up image produced by the Germans over at the UFO Conjectures site, it looks to me like a hydrocephalic child is a pretty good fit. ... possibly an Andean mummy."

Physical Evidence?

Supposedly, Kodak experts have certified that the slides are authentic. The team promoting the slides has focused on discussing their age and supposed authenticity of the slides, but that’s only a small part of what’s important about them. We need to see proof of several other things before they can be considered evidence of anything.

Tom Carey
Tom Carey was the one to first make an official teaser announcement about the slides and what he claims they are. “We have come into possession of a couple of Kodachrome color slides of an alien being lying in a glass case,” he said it was, “3 and a half to 4 feet tall, the head is almost insect-like. The head has been severed, and there’s been a partial autopsy; the innards have been removed, and we believe the cadaver has been embalmed, at least at the time this picture was taken.

In the promo video used in the beWitness press conference, Jaime Maussan asks Tom Carey if the slides are physical evidence, and Carey responds, "I think it's physical evidence. I think we have physical evidence." Carey then goes on to say, "A picture is worth a thousand words."

Don Scmitt
No, it’s not physical evidence, and it’s important to understand when a picture has value. Usually, a photo can begin to be considered supporting evidence only when time, location and the photographer are known. In addition, it’s vital to know what instrument recorded the data. We don’t have the camera or any of the other information about how the slides of the body were taken. The other claims are all based on speculation, trying to make the slides and the Ray’s history fit into the narrative of the Roswell story.

Don Schmitt has been somewhat more cautious in his statements, emphasizing the witness testimony collected in their books. Maussan asked him if it is the greatest story of all time. “One of the greatest stories. I always say of the millennium, so in the last thousand years, yes.”

More Eyewitness testimony about the “Roswell Slides”

Anthony Bragalia said:
"Clear versions of the slides depict a being whose anatomy does not correspond to a human being. The limbs (legs and arms) are exceeding thin, frail and fragile, characteristics that are not associated with hydrocephalus. In fact, the torso (which has been opened) and rest of the body look nothing like any known case of hydrocephalus in history. The structure looks very make-shift, resembling a quickly-assembled ‘erector set’ type deal, with beams that have ratchet holes in them. The set-up in no way whatsoever resembles that of a professional museum display. ... I believe that this is a 'private viewing' of a creature recently deceased, partially autopsied, and preserved.”
Not everyone agrees with his assessment, and many have found that the photos closely resemble an ancient body on display in a museum case being photographed by a tourist.

Mummy Placard
Placard: Employees must wash hands after touching alien?

Roswell expert David Rudiak was asked to analyze if the placard on the body:
“Because poor focus seemed to be the main problem, I tried various refocusing software, but couldn't get what I thought were consistent results. ... Tom Carey wanted me to have a look because of my work on the Ramey memo. But there is much less to work with here, such as unknown circumstances and font, quite unlike the Ramey memo. I'm not claiming to be a full-fledged image processing expert, and when examination of the placard in high resolution is hopefully undertaken after May 5 by multiple qualified people, maybe we will get a definitive answer as to what is shown.
As Robert Hastings just wrote... the placard is the key to resolving this thing (or somebody finding something like a child mummy that is an exact match to what is shown.)

I remember paying most of my attention on the head and commenting to Tom that it looked much more human than I would have expected if it was an alien.”
Rudiak also said:
I agree that it makes no sense that the Rays could casually photograph an alien corpse on display somewhere. Further, there is that woman in the dress standing in one of the pictures. From the low quality screen captures we've seen, the dress does NOT suggest a military nurse standing in the picture, but a civilian. I agree it looks more like a civilian setting, perhaps a museum, perhaps somewhere else.?"
Tom Carey and Jaime Maussan
Tom Carey and Jaime Maussan
Jaime Maussan asks Tom Carey, as a physical anthropologist, to explain what type of creature is pictured in the slides, and if it is a primate. Carey says it is bipedal, but does not recognize it as being human, but that, “Certainly, in our taxonomic categories that we use since Carolus Linnaeus described the order of primates, it certainly does look like it would be classified as a primate, perhaps even a hominid.”
Conferencia de Prensa Jaime Maussan beWITNESS / Sé Testigo Auditorio Nacional
 (At 1:16:00)

A quote from Witness To Roswell by Carey & Schmitt, pages 35-37:
“In science, where the bottom line is also the search for truth, Occam’s Law of Parsimony, a.k.a. Occam's Razor, is used to decide among competing hypotheses the one that best explains the observed data. It holds that, with all other factors being equal, the simplest hypothesis that explains the most observed data is the best, and must prevail. Thus employed, it serves as a tool for eliminating competing-but-lacking theories, hypotheses, and from others being considered.”
Ergo, a picture of a hominid in a glass case is a dead Roswell alien.

Since there is no actual evidence provided by the slides, the promoters are trying to prop it up by marrying it to the Roswell research done by Carey and Schmitt.

Hominid In A Glass Case Is A Dead Roswell Alien

The Cinco de Mayo show

The Cinco de Mayo show 1
The Cinco de Mayo show 2

The slides were originally said to be awaiting presentation in a non-sensational format, but that changed. Jaime Maussan came on board, arranging for the venue and advertising, billing it as a chance of a lifetime, to be able to witness a historical event, the presentation of evidence of extraterrestrials.

Roswell Witness
As best I can tell, the program will go something like this: Jaime Maussan as host, Carol Rosin will introduce Edgar Mitchell, who is there as part cheerleader and part celebrity endorsement. Adam Dew will introduce the story about the mysterious well-connected Rays, then Carey & Schmitt will pick it up and frame it in the context of Roswell (probably giving with a recap of their research and digs, bringing out an alleged witness to testify it looks like what he saw at RAAF.

The slides will be projected, then the CGI hologram of the body onstage. Richard Dolan fits in there somewhere, supposedly helping us digest how this Disclosure will change our World. Maussan will probably close the show with a speech about how everyone has witnessed history, the cast will take a final bow, the lights will come on. An announcer may direct the audience to pick a up a few souvenirs on their way out.

Jaime Maussan is advertising the show this way:
Be WITNESS, El Cambio de la Historia contará con tecnología de punta: tridimensional y holográfica por primera vez en México y en el Auditorio Nacional, un evento con características únicas para ser testigos directos de la realidad extraterrestre en la Tierra, un evento único e irrepetible.
Translation:
Be WITNESS, The Changing the of History will feature technology: three-dimensional holographic, a first in Mexico and the National Auditorium, an event with unique characteristics in order to be direct witnesses of extraterrestrial reality on Earth, a unique and unrepeatable event.

It ain't over 'til it's over

A sequel? KOB 4 reported that "The (Roswell International UFO Museum & Research Center) museum says there will be a presentation on the pictures in Roswell during the UFO festival in July." Alejandro Rojas informs me that, "Don and Tom are board members and present every year." Additionally, Don Schmitt has several solo convention appearances booked.

What about scientific study of the slides? Adam Dew says he's asked around a bit, but that science will have to wait until after the show.
"I will continue to show the slides to more pediatricians/forensic pathologists/etc. And after May 5, every forensic pathologist on Earth can take a stab at it."

The impending fiasco involving the May 5th unveiling of the so-called “Roswell Slides” is moving forward unimpeded, it seems, despite harsh (and justifiable) criticism from a leading Roswell researcher, Dr. Kevin Randle, who notes that the promoters of the slides—Tom Carey, Don Schmitt, and Jaime Maussan—have made numerous unsubstantiated and highly misleading claims about them.

Randle’s commentary is here.

For those who have come late to this controversy, a cache of some 400 color photographic slides, taken in the late 1940s, allegedly, by then-married couple, Bernerd and Hilda Ray, were discovered several years ago—when, where and by whom is still uncertain, because the story keeps changing and key individuals remain unidentified. But, cutting to the chase, two of those slides show a small, thin body in a display case, an illegible placard at its feet, and the legs of an unidentified woman wearing a civilian dress visible in the background.

The slides’ promoters would have us believe that the diminutive figure in the glass case is the corpse of one of the aliens allegedly recovered from a crashed UFO, near Roswell, New Mexico, in July 1947. Consequently, they claim, the images are of revolutionary importance. Indeed, one member of the group, Tom Carey, has gone so far as to say that these two Kodachrome slides are the “smoking gun” proving that mankind is not alone in the universe.

Of course, the images are nothing of the sort. They are instead problematic artifacts associated with an incomplete and way-over-hyped research project, that is likely to become one of the most embarrassing missteps in a seven-decade-long effort by ufologists to gather and publicize data pointing to the reality of the UFO phenomenon and its probable extraterrestrial nature.

On February 24, 2015, I wrote to Mexican journalist Jaime Maussan, who will host the May 5th unveiling in Mexico City, saying, “In my view, the sign on the shelf next to the body is the key. Is there no decipherable writing on it in the original slide? If not, that image—not a copy—should be sent to at least half-a-dozen experts so that they might try to make the text legible. Has this already been done? If so, please elaborate. I have not read any commentary by any expert to date, regarding the sign.”

I then asked Maussan whether he thought that Carey and Schmitt had really done sufficient due diligence on the matter. I copied Tom Carey on the message. The next day, an obviously annoyed Carey responded to me and agreed that the placard “holds the key” to the identity of the body, adding that he and Don Schmitt had been trying to find someone to read the sign, using various filters and techniques. Despite that, said Carey, “not a single word” had been deciphered on the placard thus far.

He then mentioned that Dr. David Rudiak, and other unnamed persons, had attempted to solve the puzzle. Years earlier, Rudiak had analyzed a photograph of U.S. Army Air Force General Roger Ramey, who was photographed on July 8, 1947, squatting next to weather balloon wreckage. In Ramey’s hand was a Western Union telegram that seemed partially legible when blown up in size. Unfortunately, magnifying that small portion of the photo resulted in the type in the message appearing extremely blurry. Rudiak, according to many people, succeeded in deciphering that wording—although Kevin Randle disagrees—yielding, among other items, a reference to the “victims of the wreck”, presumably the crashed UFO.

According to then-Major Jesse Marcel—who had participated in the discovery of the mysterious wreckage in New Mexico and subsequently transported some of it to Ramey’s office at Carswell Army Air Field, in Texas—just before the photo was taken, the general had surreptitiously removed a small quantity of that unique material, which had been spread out on the floor, and substituted it with debris from a downed weather balloon, to help facilitate a cover-up of the actual nature of the retrieved craft.

In any case, at the present time, Rudiak has apparently been unable to make legible any words on the sign next to the “alien” body in the display case. Although Carey said that persons other than Rudiak had also been given the slides to examine, when I asked him to identify those individuals, he didn’t respond. Nor did he answer my question as to whether Rudiak had used the original slides for his analysis, or lower quality copies. This last point is obviously important, given that any text—either faint handwriting or commercial printing—would be somewhat degraded in second-generation duplicates.

I then wrote, “If your first group of experts was unable to decipher any words on the sign, that only points to the need to expand the scope of inquiry. I was a professional photographer for ten years and did scientific photography, among other work, at Northern Illinois University. I later worked as an electron microscopist for 14 years at Philips Semiconductors and routinely employed various image-enhancement techniques.”

I continued, “Given these qualifications, I can guarantee you that if the sign had writing on it (and why wouldn’t it?) techniques are currently available to make that text visible. I no longer have access to the required equipment or I would volunteer to take a crack at solving the puzzle. My point, however, is that perhaps your choice of ‘experts’ is the problem, rather than the availability of tools to do the work.”

I concluded, “Are the ORIGINAL slides going to be made available to the outside world—including qualified technicians—immediately after the May 5th event? If so, I predict immediate progress emanating from some quarter. Of course, the better, more scientific choice would be to make the ORIGINAL slides available to those technicians at this time, not after-the-fact. That's my idea of due diligence.”

Given Carey’s non-response to my questions and suggestions, I can only assume that he will ignore my advice. That’s his prerogative, but when this whole affair blows up in his face—after the “alien” is identified as a human mummy, as I believe will eventually happen—Carey will not be able to honestly claim that he and his associates pursued every available avenue to identify the text on the placard.

Regardless, being a persistent person, I will use this opportunity to again strongly suggest to Carey, and Schmitt, and Maussan, that additional efforts be made immediately to decipher the writing on the sign, utilizing the expertise of still other persons, who might have other approaches to the problem.

I am guessing that most people reading this article would agree that my proposal is a valid one and that Carey’s palpable irritation with my earlier questioning of his diligence in pursuing a proper investigation should not be used as an excuse by him, or Schmitt, or Maussan to reject my suggestion out-of-hand.

I think all three of the promoters are sincere in their belief that the corpse in the Kodachromes is indeed an alien. I certainly do not believe that they are premeditatedly perpetrating a hoax, as a host of UFO debunkers have claimed. I also assume that they want the facts to emerge, whatever those facts turn out to be. But, when all is said and done, they have not yet provided anything resembling credible evidence that would confirm that the small body is what they claim it to be.

Of course, there are other problems with the whole Roswell Slides business, as Kevin Randle has pointed out. In the recent blog entry linked above, he mentioned an apparent lack of provenance for the slides and wrote, “[Regardless,] none of that explains how the Rays would have been able to obtain a picture of an alien creature. We all agree that if there was a crash and alien bodies were recovered, it would all be highly classified. I can think of no plausible scenario in which civilians, no matter how highly connected, would have had the opportunity to see, let alone photograph the body of an alien creature and get out of the room with their camera and film intact.”

Exactly! The fanciful speculation by those who contend that the Rays—if they did indeed know people in high places—would actually be given access to one of the bodies from the crashed Roswell UFO, is utter nonsense.

Consider these facts:
● Several ex-U.S. Army Air Force (AAF) personnel who were at Roswell Army Air Field in July 1947 say their superiors went to extraordinary lengths to retrieve every last scrap of the shattered UFO.

● Major Jesse Marcel, the first AAF officer to encounter the debris, in the company of rancher Mac Brazel, says that General Ramey did indeed replace a small portion of that exotic material with weather balloon wreckage so that it could be photographed as part of a public deception.

● Retired AAF Brigadier General Thomas Dubose says that a high-level cover-up of the Roswell event did occur, and was designed to keep the media away from the AAF recovery teams out in the field.

● A inquiry by the General Accounting Office, some 50 years later, determined that all records of telephone calls into and out of Roswell Army Air Field around the time of the UFO recovery had inexplicably disappeared.

● In the 1960s and ‘70s, U.S. Senator Barry Goldwater, also a U.S. Air Force major general with Top Secret clearances, was by his own admission repeatedly rebuffed when he tried to gain access to a facility, the Blue Room, at Wright-Patterson AFB, in which dead aliens were allegedly kept.
In other words, every effort has apparently been made by the U.S. government over the decades to keep the secret of Roswell SECRET!

In spite of that, the slides’ promoters want us to believe that the Rays—because they possibly had friends in high places—were allowed to view, even photograph, one of the already-autopsied aliens! Anyone who considers this ridiculous scenario to have merit is naïve in the extreme and simply does not understand how highly-classified, need-to-know matters are handled by the military.

For credible commentary on the Roswell Incident, one might read the revelations of the late U.S. Air Force Brigadier General Arthur E. Exon, who was at Wright Field, Ohio, when cargo aircraft carrying debris from the Roswell UFO arrived for analysis by aeronautical engineers.

During an audiotaped interview with Kevin Randle, in 1990, Exon said:
...They knew they had something new in their hands. The metal and material was unknown to [everyone] I talked to. Whatever they found, I never heard what the [analytical] results were. A couple of guys thought it might be Russian, but the overall consensus was that the pieces were from space. Everyone from the White House on down knew that what we had found was not of this world within 24 hours of our finding it…Roswell was the recovery of a craft from space.
General Exon was later the Base Commander of Wright-Patterson AFB. His published comments regarding the matter may be read here.

I will conclude by predicting, perhaps redundantly, that this affair will end badly for the Roswell Slide promoters. If, as I contend, the body in the slides is the mummy of an Inca child, or some such, then Carey, Schmitt and Maussan will owe the whole world an apology. They should also seriously consider returning whatever money they made as a result of their unfortunate, unfounded and misguided claims.
