Climate Change Killed the Aliens

Climate Change Killed the Aliens

A case study of the inhabitants of Easter Island served in part as the basis for a mathematical model showing the ways a technologically advanced population and its planet might develop or collapse together.

Did climate change already kill all the aliens we've been searching for?

According to astrophysicist Adam Frank, it's certainly a

possibility — and whether humans are doomed to the same fate may already be out of our hands.

Frank, a professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Rochester in New York, is the lead author of a new paper published May 1 in the journal Astrobiology that aims to take what Frank calls a "10,000-light-year" view of anthropogenic (human-caused) climate change. Using mathematical models based on the disappearance of a real-life lost civilization here on Earth (the former inhabitants of Easter Island), Frank and his colleagues simulated how various alien civilizations might rise and fall if they were to increasingly convert their planet's limited natural resources into energy.

Aliens Previously Populated Our Solar System?

Astrophysicist: ETs May Have Already
Lived and Died In Our Solar System

The big question: Did they leave artifacts behind for us to find?

Aliens Previously Populated Our Solar System?

As science continues to search the cosmos for evidence of intelligent extraterrestrials and, at the very least, for habitable planets that might harbor even non-intelligent life, one scientist is raising another eye-opening question: Was there a time in the far distant past when an advanced civilization actually lived on one of the planets of our solar system, long before earthlings evolved?

Pennsylvania State University astrophysicist Jason T. Wright suggests that ancient aliens may have lived on nearby planets hundreds of millions of years ago, before vanishing without a trace.

Seeking the Aliens Who Seek Us

Seeking the Aliens Who Seek Us
This diagram shows the transit zone our planet will sweep through when it passes in front of the sun; any intelligent extraterrestrials looking at our sun living in a star system that falls within this zone will detect us.

What if an advanced alien civilization saw our planet across the interstellar expanse and switched on their powerful radio transmitters to send a “hello neighbor!” message... but all of our radio antennae were staring at KIC 8462852 when we really should be paying attention to Omicron Persei.

Space is big and there’s billions of stars in our galaxy where hypothetical transmitting extraterrestrials could be orbiting; we may be missing out on a flood of alien phone calls every day just because we can’t monitor them all.

ANALYSIS: Kepler’s ‘Bizarre’ Signal Sparks Alien Intelligence Speculation

Enter René Heller and Ralph Pudritz of the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Göttingen, Germany, and McMaster University in Canada, respectively, who pondered this very question and arrived at a wonderfully elegant solution. Granted, their strategy, which has been published in the journal Astrobiology, doesn’t tell us exactly where intelligent aliens are holed up, but it may better the odds of us tapping into the galactic switchboard. New Trick for Finding Alien Civilizations

The hunt for extraterrestrial life — of any kind, including lowly, long-dead microbes — is lofty enough. But the hunt for intelligent civilizations that could be looking for us in return? It's even more of a long shot. In a new paper published in the journal Astrobiology, researchers present one possible strategy for finding these theoretical beings: Assume that they're searching for us in exactly the same way we're searching for them.

"It's impossible to predict whether extraterrestrials use the same observational techniques as we do," study co-author René Heller of the Institute for Astrophysics in Göttingen, Germany, said in a statement. "But they will have to deal with the same physical principles as we do, and Earth's solar transits are an obvious method to detect us."

In theory, we may be able to catch a planet that had already sent us some kind of message long, long ago. And once we knew what direction to listen in, we'd stand a better chance of capturing it. [...]

Earthlings Not Ready for Alien Encounters, Yet

The people of planet Earth would be wise to raise their cosmic consciousness prior to contact with an extraterrestrial civilization, a new study shows.

“The scientific community now accepts to some degree that this contact may occur in the next 50 to 100 years,” writes Gabriel De la Torre, a clinical neuropsychologist and human factors specialist at the University of Cádiz in Spain.

“Consequently, we are becoming more concerned about this possibility and its aftermath … Certainly the topic of contact with extraterrestrial civilizations raises a number of questions that are not easy to answer,” De la Torre writes. “We estimate that this type of event will have not only a social effect, but also on both consciousness and biology as well.”

De la Torre surveyed 116 college students from Spain, the United States and Italy about their religious beliefs, familiarity with astronomy and the Search for Extraterrestial Intelligence, or SETI, programs, and other factors including attention and perception.

The results showed several aspects affect awareness of space. . . .

. . . “Some individuals, small groups of people or scientists, may actually possess the required level of awareness to be involved in an event such as contact with an extraterrestrial civilization, but we need to further analyze the current global awareness level as a species.” . . .

Interview with Ufology's Wendelle Stevens

Wendelle Stevens

The following letter was sent to me by Tom Nesser of Rochester, NY. He had read Gary Kinder's "Light Years" and felt the urge to write to Wendelle Stevens who did the investigation on the Eduard Meier contact case. Eduard "Billy" Meier was contacted by people from the Plejarans. At the time he said the Plieades because he wanted to make sure that any "copy cats" would use

that name and he would know they were hoaxing their contact. Within the last few years he has said they really were Plejarans.

After writing to Wendelle, he requested Tom send his questions and answers to me.

Dear Mr. Stevens:

I don't know if any of your encounters with contactees touch on any of the following, but if they have, your answers to the following questions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Q: From all your experiences with contactees, do you have a theory as to why they are here?
