     MONTEREY, Calif. —You probably don't want to go swimming at the beach this weekend. Santa Cruz beaches are under water quality health warnings because of high bacteria levels created by all the dead fish. And in Monterey, the waves are green because of an algae bloom.

Marine biologists told KSBW that warmer-than-usual ocean water is the underlying cause of all of the recent creatures and blooms that have come ashore. On July 24, the Monterey Bay buoy reached 68 degrees. That's the highest water temperature ever recorded by the buoy since the National Data Buoy Center began keeping records two decades ago. . . .
