Editor's Note–The news report above originally appeared five years ago this month and was quickly determined to be a hoax perpetrated by a man who tied road flares to four large helium-filled balloons using fishing line. The prank made national news and caused quite a stir locally, evoking memories of the real UFO events of March 13th, 1997, known as The Phoenix Lights.
For whatever reason, NBC news has the incorrect date (year) for the video in their video playlists, and said video is currently making the rounds (as new)–FW
