Today, those people involved with the 1947 Roswell Incident would never have thought their names would still be fresh on the minds of others, and that the incident would still be creating questions 60 years later. Such however is the case with the 1947 Roswell UFO Incident. Several researchers, who don’t believe we’ve been told the truth, are still pursuing the few remaining living civilian and military personnel involved with the incident. The Roswell Incident went dormant a few days after it occurred and stayed that way for 31 years, until Stanton Friedman, a nuclear physicist and the original civilian researcher, interviewed the 1947 Roswell Army Air Field Intelligence Officer, Major Jesse Marcel. The interest spread like wildfire to create hundreds of books and documentaries, with many yet to come, because people simply want to know the truth.4-2-07
Walter Haut and Glenn Dennis, both involved with the Roswell Incident joined with local businessman Max Littell to found the International UFO Museum & Research Center in 1991, which now draws over 150,000 visitors annually. With the major New Mexico cities of Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Las Cruces and the Texas cities of El Paso, Amarillo and Lubbock all within three hours drive from Roswell, it’s easy to see how the interest has generated, and is now spread worldwide
Planning for the first annual UFO Festival in 1995 began two years prior. The 1997 event caused the population of Roswell to almost double, during the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Roswell Incident. Media from around the globe swarmed the city, making Roswell, New Mexico a household name and the undisputed Mecca for all things UFO and/or Extra-Terrestrial. We’ve come a long way in 12 years, and with the City backing the event with several National sponsors for the first time ever, this year’s 60th Anniversary UFO Festival celebration will be the one to beat for years to come. If you’re not part of this year’s event, you’ll be missing out on a great festival.
The 2007 Roswell UFO Festival will run July 5th through July 8th. For continuously updated information about the event, the hotels and restaurants, the speakers and entertainment, go to www.roswellufofestival.com. Some new speakers coming for their first Roswell appearance include five researchers from Mexico, doing bi-lingual lectures. We will have over 30 speakers in all, including: Yours Truly, Greg Bishop, Donald Burleson PhD, Stephen Bassett, Richard Dolan, Adam GoRightly, John Greenewald, Michael Heiser PhD, Tom Horn, Guy Malone, Nick Redfern, John Rhodes, Peter Robbins and Rob Simone to name but a few.
As a member of the Mayor’s Planning Committee I am very excited to introduce our brand-new event called “UFO-Spotting with your favorite researchers”. This will be three separate, nightly events, held on July 5th, 6th and 7th, limited to 100 people per event, which allows them to go to a designated site north of Roswell and spend the night searching the sky for UFO’s with their favorite group of researchers. The event includes a gourmet dinner with all manner of drinks and snacks served throughout the night, except alcohol which will be cut-off during the night, and the event ends with a full-service breakfast, before everyone is taken back into Roswell. Each event will have special appearances from world-famous researchers and Dean Haglund, better known as “Langley” from the “X-Files”. There will be commercial grade 20” and 11” telescopes on site to view stars and planets, along with questions and answers with Peter Lipscomb, published astrophotographer, stargazer and life-long student of the sky. Go to www.roswellufofestival.com to sign-up for this special event. The deadline is May 31st!
Other activities include: a spectacular 4th of July fireworks display choreographed to music; the world-famous Murphy Bros. Exposition Carnival; musical entertainment by the Alan Parson’s Project, plus 20 other national and regional bands; Dean Haglund, better known as “Langley” from the “X-Files” will be present along with cartoonist Doug Ogg introducing his new book. We also have helicopter rides, hot-air balloon rides, the Alien Costume Contest, the annual night parade and invasion, Lazer-Tag, theatrical plays, running events, static air displays and about 30 more events too numerous to mention........but you can preview each of these events in greater detail by going to the website address above.
So whether your interest is in UFO’s and aliens, or you just want to have fun, there will be more going on than anyone can possibly do in Roswell, New Mexico, this July 4th - 8th, and we look forward to you coming to help us celebrate the 60th anniversary of the 1947 Roswell Incident.
