Long-known as "ground zero" for UFO conspiracy theories, the city of Roswell, New Mexico keeps the mystery alive as thousands descend upon the city to celebrate Roswell's annual UFO Festival this July. Over 10,000 people typically sign in to the International UFO Museum over the July 4th holiday weekend, while UFO enthusiasts and global press crews mix with families and vacationers to join in one of the southwest's best-known events.

The 2005 Festival offers a wide range of lectures and activities. Well-known Roswell researchers Stanton Friedman, Don Schmitt & Tom Carey will be on-hand at the UFO Museum discussing the Roswell incident. The army hangar where the 1947 wreckage was stored before being officially confiscated will be open to the public for the first time in years, featuring "UFO best evidence" video presentations. Alien abduction researchers Derrel Simms, Leah Haley, and other authors will speak at the Roswell Convention Center. Dr. Michael Heiser, Ph.D. joins other theologians to discuss the possible role of UFOs in Bible Prophecy at Best Western, while other presentations offered at the hotel draw interesting and perhaps sinister correlations between angels and aliens.

The Festival is also known for music and entertainment. Country singer Tracy Lawrence headlines the "Celestial Country Concert" on Sunday night, while other nights offer a "Terrestrial Tejano" flavor and an "Alien Oldies" concert, which includes performances by Little Anthony & the Imperials, The Shirelles and comedian Dwight Scruggs. The Roswell Courthouse even offers free entertainment on its steps Saturday night. Other events include a play at Roswell's Little Theatre, a laser show at Robert H. Goddard Planetarium, an alien costume contest and parade down Main Street.

The weekend is capped off by a large fireworks display on July 4th which can be seen from all over downtown. Many events are free, while others require an admission fee or donation.

Official links and a schedule of all events happening in Roswell are posted at RoswellUFOfestival.com
