James Carrion Ain’t No Sissy!

     Whatever one might think about James Carrion, there are a few things that have become abundantly clear: he has a strong opinion, he can give as good as he gets, and he stands his ground!

August 17th (last month) saw the birth of Follow The Magic Thread, Carrion’s personal blog, where he makes clear that in that realm, “he isn’t speaking in an official capacity for MUFON.”

For those not familiar with the man, he is the International Director of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON—as James states is a scientific research nonprofit organization that studies UFOs for the benefit of humanity through investigation, research and public education.), having taken the reins from former director, John Schuessler in 2006.

In James’ introduction to his blog, he correctly acknowledges the distortions and misinformation etc., re Ufology, which exist on the Internet, and proclaims his desire that his blog might be a beacon for critical thought and perhaps a protocol for wading through this thing we call Ufology.

Once the reader takes in the introductory commentary, it’s time to hold on, as James jumps right into “the thick of things!” In his piece entitled, The Mysterious Men in Black, he not only fires back at those who would (foolishly) suggest that he perhaps is a notorious Man in Black (MIB), some nefarious undercover agent who has infiltrated MUFON, but also puts his entire background on the table for all to see; accordingly, he then illuminates the verity that his accusers make their proclamations anonymously, and hide behind creative avatars . . . I find the irony amusing.

We get to delve further into what makes Carrion tick, as he published an earlier interview of him conducted by Brazilian researcher, Milton Frank. The Q&A session pretty much sums up Carrion’s views on Ufology; however, in a prelude to the interview Carrion states, “Although my basic opinions have not changed, the last three years have opened my eyes about UFOs in a way that I would have never been able to experience otherwise.”

From this point on Carrion posts articles in rapid-fire succession that are often sharp, critical and to the point! He makes no bones about his position on a myriad of sub-topics to Ufology.

He talks of deceptions, government conspiracies and intelligence agencies pertaining to Ufology in his piece entitled, The Collision Course of Intelligence Agencies and Ufology. In it, he correctly recognizes the national security concerns that UFOs present and lays down the foundation of his dogma and how he arrived at it.

In a few of his articles he mentions his investigative work concerning the Great Lakes Dive Company Hoax of 2006; I took special interest in these declarations, as I began my own investigation into the matter the minute the story broke. Moreover, I thought the acts of this man that perpetrated the hoax were despicable, as they were done at the expense of the missing servicemen’s families, who for a brief moment undoubtedly thought may finally get closure to the mystery of their missing loved ones.

In The Internet Matrix, James “incorrectly” suggests that the GLDC hoax may have been performed by an intelligence agency; admittedly, this concept isn’t too far-fetched; however, my investigation came to fruition and the “crime” was perpetrated by one individual, with perhaps occasional help from friends—the motive is still unclear!

In the very same article James elucidates the idea of how easy it would be for intelligence agencies to inject misinformation or propaganda onto the Internet via forums, blogs etc. He makes the valid point that members are not vetted and most often times use an alias and are essentially anonymous; this thesis is carried on through a number of his articles, where he cites particular forums and arguments.

One of the more controversially pieces he wrote, was entitled Lost in Space, where he takes issue with the veracity of the statements of self-professed experiencer, “Stan Romanek.” As the editor of The UFO Chronicles, I was intrigued by the arguments; I requested and was given permission to publish the article; upon publication, I received an e-mail from the Romanek camp, expressing their displeasure re Carrion’s opinions etc.; in the spirit of fairness, I offered to publish any rebuttal they’d like to present (the offer still stands); during the interim, researcher and fellow MUFON investigator, Chuck Zukowski offered refutation to Carrion’s penscript. Given the significance of Romanek’s declarations, and the evaluation of them by no other then the director of MUFON, it’s no surprise that this has become a hotbed of controversy.

At the end of the day, for those of you that stop by and peruse Carrion’s Follow The Magic Thread blog, you might find yourself disagreeing with the author; his ruminations may evoke your ire; you may learn something; you may applaud his efforts enthusiastically; however, one thing is for certain—you will not be bored; you will be forced to cogitate, and you will be compelled to continue reading!

“The Other 1947 Roswell Newspaper”

     When doing any research, and particularly the 1947 Roswell Incident, its always exciting when a new witness comes forward or other information not previously uncovered is found. I suppose that’s what keeps some of us “digging” into the events surrounding the incident that happened 62 years ago. Many have given up, or moved on from researching the Roswell Incident, however in my case and for several other researchers, we’re not yet convinced that all the information has been brought to the table. After all, the 4 different excuses given thus far do not satisfactorily answer the many questions raised over time about what happened on the Foster ranch northwest of Roswell in 1947.

First and second-hand witnesses are dying at an alarming rate, due to now being in their 80’s, if still alive, so when a new witness is discovered, it’s critical to obtain as much information as possible and attempt to verify that information. Such was the case at this years Roswell UFO Festival July 2-5, 2009, when I was introduced to an 85 year old gentleman that “claimed” he was on the airplane that transferred the debris from Roswell to General Ramey’s office in Fort Worth Texas. He indicated that Intelligence Officer Major Jesse Marcel, military police and several wooden crates were on that same flight and was anxious to meet Major Marcel’s son Jesse Jr., who I was able to introduce him to. Other researchers have interviewed him and perhaps this adds more validity to the accounts we’ve been hearing for years.

Another group is in the process of testing some material obtained from the Foster ranch during a dig that was done there several years ago, with the University of New Mexico Archeological group. If the material being tested should turn out to be of unknown origin, it would simply add more validity to the ongoing research being done about the Roswell Incident, proving again that the material recovered was not a weather balloon, Mogul balloon, or crash test dummies as we’ve been told on three separate occasions by the Air Force to explain Roswell.

That leaves us with the first excuse that Lt. Walter Haut wrote July 8, 1947 for media distribution as the Public Relations Officer at Roswell Army Airfield, under orders of the base commander Col. William Blanchard.

By now everyone interested in the Roswell Incident is familiar with the Roswell Daily Record newspaper headline written by Haut stating:


This headline was not only printed in the afternoon edition of the Roswell Daily Record, but was also a major headline in many afternoon newspapers west of Chicago July 8, 1947.


By the next day, (July 9, 1947), General Ramey and many others in charge of a cover-up story had the following headline ready for the afternoon Roswell Daily Record and most morning newspapers east of Chicago, which read:


General Ramey’s headline indicated that the “elite” 509th bomb wing stationed at Roswell Army Airfield had misidentified a weather balloon for a flying saucer.

For all the years that I’ve been doing Roswell research I have known that there were two newspapers in Roswell in 1947, (The Roswell Daily Record and The Roswell Morning Dispatch), and two radio stations (KGFL and KSWS), that Lt. Walter Haut had contacted to release the original press release he had written. I had never seen a copy of the “The Roswell Morning Dispatch”, so I began a search of several local archives to try and locate it, which included the Historical Society for Southeast New Mexico Archives, the Roswell Public Library, The Chaves County Court House and the Roswell Daily Record newspaper, which has become the only newspaper in Roswell, changing from an afternoon paper to the morning paper, as it remains today. Those searches required a lot of asking questions and looking through July 1947 microfilm. My search was finally successful when almost by accident I located the July 9th, 1947 Roswell Morning Dispatch. Since the original press release went out about noon on July 8th, 1947 I knew the Morning Dispatch wouldn’t have anything for July 8th and I limited my search to the following day July 9th, when the cover up was already in place. The Roswell Morning Dispatch headline was two lines:


In a “sub-title” on the front page was another smaller headline that stated:

“Officers Say Disk Is Weather Balloon”
I thought it was interesting that the word “Disc” was spelled “Disk” in the Morning Dispatch article.

Perhaps other researchers had previously found a copy of the July 9, 1947 “Roswell Morning Dispatch”, but I had never seen it, so it was exciting for me to personally discover it. Some of the other headline stories on the front page included a photo of Sheriff Wilcox with a headline of:

“Flying Disk Transforms Sheriff’s Office to International Newsroom”

and

“Object Found on Foster ranch causes excitement”
Both of these articles were large enough that they were continued on page 8 of the July 9th newspaper. The Roswell Morning Dispatch had other disc articles through the July 11th editions continuing the follow-up, including one with a photo of Kenneth Arnold.

The microfilm machine I used to make copies of the Morning Dispatch articles was only able to copy on 8 ½” x 11” paper, so to get a full size print I had to tape individual sheets together, however I’m hopeful that I can find a way to get a full size copy of the front page done in the future, to preserve it.

It appears that the coverage of what happened near Roswell in 1947 was not only of importance to the media here locally in Roswell, but also across the country as indicated by the many newspaper articles that have been discovered covering both the initial report that we have a flying saucer in our possession, and the cover-up story the following day by General Ramey that it was only a weather balloon.

For me the evidence continues to mount that something of extreme importance happened near Roswell in 1947, based not only on the coverage it received in July 1947, but the continuing efforts by many researchers during the past 30 years with bits and pieces still coming forward. My personal theory remains that what ever was recovered on the Foster ranch, and perhaps at other locations since, is still being back engineered for the benefit of our military, and until that technology (propulsion, guidance, etc) is understood, neither the military or government will admit to the event.

" . . . People Don't Want UFO Information, They Want To Be Entertained By UFO Story Tellers"

     In the beginning Salas was one of [Steven] Greer's witnesses. Hastings and others tried to get him to look at Greer 's record and his presentation, but Salas told Hastings that Greer was at least "doing something." Doing something by having speakers at the National Press Club telling reporters that there are 34 different alien races visiting earth.

Of course, at the time if anyone pointed out Greer's record or he and his bunch's silly statements, they were shouted down---oh and Dick Hall had to resign from MUFON for making critical remarks about speakers scheduled for the MUFON conference one of which was Greer. So much for free discussion in UFO land. After all, Greer was doing something! Yeah, he was doing something, he was leading the next assault of the UFO Disinformation Corps whose main policy is to make sure that UFOs appear absolutely silly to any educated and thinking person. Just do a Google search on any aspect of ufology, the return is one good hit to 100 UFO Disinformation Corps hits.

Greer got big investor to pony up big money for his "free energy" company. You get a small amount of investors to put up big buck and as long as the number is under, I think, 27 and the investors have certain asset levels, no SEC disclosure necessary. Lots of close hold companies do that. If they have half a chance than they may go to stock offering on a public exchange in which the original investors can get out with some profits or in the case of a hot offering a big killing. And most that reach this stage fail anyway.

Now if some cases in the close held stage never come out. Many of these are just "life style" companies...the officers of the company live high off the hog for awhile or maybe longer if they can get their investors to pony up again. Unless it is outright fraud, the courts look at these investors as "big boys" and should have known better.

Frankly, I feel it is my duty from time to time to go out and stand up to disinformation Corps. Usually I get shouted down After all everyone knows that the PC based on Roswell debris is alien, they have a gardener who works for the company and was a Navy Seal tellings us so. And then, how about the dentist who from visual inspection of Roswell debris make an alloy that the chemist at Stanford couldn't cut with a diamond saw or how about Mel Noel aka Guy Kirkwood his has a picture of himself in an Air Force flight suit, that means he was in the Air Force right! The Disinformation Corps does not care that he is an admitted hoaxer, they bring him back over and over again in a different venue sometimes with a new name. Or how about Anderson, another Navy Seal, not! Do we have element 115 yet? I need not go on.

There are always people in the UFO movement that will stand-up for the idiot of the day, then as the smoke clears and another UFO hoax is exposed, these same people will stand-up for the next one as if they have learned nothing. One reason I do not get UFO Updates any more. Most people don't want UFO information, they want to be entertained by UFO story tellers.
