The Ministry of Defence has admitted that there are unidentified flying objects in our skies, but has concluded that they are not alien craft but examples of a bizarre and little-understood atmospheric phenomenon. The Telegraph

A secret report studying all UFO sightings across Britain, Unidentified Aerial Phenomena in the UK Air Defence Region, was compiled over four years by the MoD's Defence Intelligence Staff.
Released under a Freedom of Information Act (FoI) request, it states that the glowing lights in the sky that have long puzzled ufologists are "buoyant plasmas".
These aerial plasmas are created by charges of electricity, sculpted by air flows into aerodynamic shapes. How they are formed is still largely a mystery.
Dr David Clarke, of Sheffield Hallam University, made the FoI request along with amateur astronomer Gary Anthony. He said the report showed that the MoD "had shifted position massively".
"It's still saying that the vast majority of sightings are pretty simple things... But now it admits that a tiny percentage are natural phenomena, which are still mysterious."
The MoD, however, insisted that its stance had not shifted.
