By David & Joyce KuhnOn July 4th 1997 my wife and I were in Puerto Penasco, Mexico. We stayed at the Hotel Gloria. In the evening around 9:30 PM we were on the beach and saw an object with very bright lights about 5 miles to the west moving towards us over the Sea of Cortez.
It followed the shoreline as it headed East (towards us). It took about 15-20 minutes of moving in slow motion to reach the beach area where we were.
The lights were so bright that it illuminated the whole area all around us. Now we could see the craft clearly. It was v-shaped with five round white lights that were the brightest lights we have ever seen.
The craft hovered above us for what seemed like 5 minutes. It was stationary when the nose of the craft tilted skyward and within a few seconds it took off so fast towards the sky that it was out of sight within a second. Never seen anything accelerate so fast. The five lights must have went out at the same time it accelerated skyward because you could not see anything but a blur.
The local authorities said it was flares. Ridiculous explanation.
