UFO in the San Francisco Bay? | VIDEO

UFO in the San Francisco Bay

When the rest of the world is setting off firecrackers high in the sky, 69-year-old Eric Staller hopes to be wowing the crowd on the San Francisco Bay, dazzling onlookers in his wacky Bubbleboat, a converted farm silo set on aluminum platoons festooned with 600 twinkling lights.

“I always like to flash around Pier 39 and the Embarcadero,” Staller said in a recent interview. “I jfust like to see the looks on people’s faces, like ‘What is THAT?’’’

... Staller said he was paid $60,000 to create the fun piece, which he categorizes as one of his many “Urban UFO” projects. As part of the deal, he got to keep the Bubbleboat for the rest of his life.

Bay Area UFO Sightings Investigated By the Air Force

From 1947 to 1969, the Air Force recorded 12,618 UFO sightings and spent significant resources investigating each claim during an era rife with Cold War paranoia about enemies' secret weapons. Here's six doozies from the Bay Area:

San Mateo: Boy spots 'flying saucer'

On the morning on Dec. 6, 1962, a young San Mateo teen looked up in the sky and reported seeing a "flying saucer," about 100-feet in diameter, oval-shaped, soundless and red. In his handwritten letter to the Air Force

the 13-year-old boy recounted how he eyeballed the object traveling at between 100 mph to 2,000 mph. He included a drawing of the UFO, an oval with another concentric oval inside of it. The inner circle was labeled "elevated" while the large ring was "smooth." He compared the drawing to the 1951 movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still," where an alien lands and tells Earthlings they must live peacefully or be destroyed as a danger to other planets.

He concluded his report: "A lot of people think I'm batty but I don't care because I really did see it. I think it came from Venus. I'm very interested in science too so I'm not a crackpot." . . .

Brilliant Chrome, Red, Green Fireball Blazes Through Bay Area Skies

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — What appears to be a meteor blazed over the North Bay midday Saturday creating a frenzy of excited tweets and blog posts, and triggering calls to 9-1-1 dispatchers reporting what looked like a possible aircraft going down.

The space rock was actually the second fireball to light up Northern California skies Saturday — the first being the Delta II rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base that left an upper atmosphere trail of exhaust lit up by sun.

The American Meteor Society tracked 34 reports of the fireball, all coming in after noon from across the Bay Area, and even as far north as Eureka.

An observer from Lafayette tells the society, “This object was moving very fast at a very steep trajectory. It was intensely clear, and the colors were very obvious. Shiny chrome was definitely part of the ball, as if sunlight were reflecting off of it. . . .

A UFO appeared in the skies above northern California in the early morning of Friday, September 12.

At least thirty witnesses in the bay area watched the strange object streak across the sky at approximately 6:00 a.m. Some describe the object as a white light, while others say it was orange. But the light was seen with “fog or smoke billowing out” behind it. Among the witnesses is a police officer from Sacramento. . . .

. . . The strange object that streaked across the sky remains unidentified. . . .

The Chabot Space and Science Center says that a mysterious streak of light that lit up Bay Area skies early Friday morning may have been a meteor.

Bay Area residents – and even some in Southern California and Oregon – reported seeing the phenomena, but nobody could figure out what it was.

Comet? White glow? Strange streak in the sky? Bright orange light? Aliens? UFO? – the rumors kept flying in.

Chabot Space Center astronomer Ben Burress told NBC Bay Area that there were a total of three events Thursday and Friday where people reported seeing something in the sky. Two of the events occurred Thursday at 9 and 11 p.m. and Friday's event occurred around 6 a.m., Burress said. . . .

Strange Light/Object over the Bay Area [pics]

Tonight my sister and I were driving to San Mateo to visit some old friends. As we approached the San Mateo Bridge toll plaza we noticed a strange light above the hills, seeming as if maybe it was out over the ocean. I am guessing the light was somewhere near Half Moon Bay.

The appearance of the light at first looked very similar to a contrail illuminated by the sunset. But what was strange was this light did not seem to move. It seemed to remain the same size/shape and position while we drove over the bridge, until it started to seem a little smaller before being covered by the rising hills.

The idea of that failed sattelite entering our orbit entered my mind, but once again, it wasn't really moving downwards or anything as if it were falling or progressing at least. Then I thought it could possibly be some sort of light phenomenon with the Sun. If it is some sort of light phenomenon it is definitely nothing I have ever seen from many years of seeing sunsets in the Bay Area.

It appears to be moving downward in this sequence of pictures because the Earth was rotating upwards. I watched it the whole time and the light was not moving upward or downwards, it stayed in one position.

I managed to grab a handful of shots with my sister's camera. I really have no clue what it was and I am hoping you guys can took a look at these pics and we can figure it out.
